Always a good time at GQB. Boston’s LGBTQ bar scene can get old so the constantly changing venues are refreshing. Some of the venus are better than others(Prime and Tequila Rain are not my favorite places) but regardless there is always a large turnout and a fun crowd. $ 5 cover at the door which I think it is donated back to a LGBTQ cause.

Why is it fun to «surprise» straight people with a bunch of lesbians? The whole concept is ridiculous. Zero stars. And I’m a lesbian. As mentioned here often, yes there are popped-collar yah dudes… and the lesbians just double the amount of popped-collars.

Read it in the Kool-Aid voice«ooooooh yeaaaaah.» I love this place. The end.

I really like the concept of the guerilla queer bar, creating visibility, «queer-ing» a presumably straight space, and gathering a bunch of people for a good time. Great«excuse» to hit up tacky themed straight bars with your friends. I attended guerilla bar the one of the nights they took over tequila rain, those running the event were friendly and the bar had pretty decent drink special. Tequila rain on the other hand is an awful place and thier management should be ashamed of themselves.

One of the best gay nights in Boston without a doubt. Bring your straight friends too, they’ll love watching the scene. But get there early. The crowd is no joke. First Friday of every month, you’ll find the coolest gays and lesbians from around Boston all gathered together for a ridiculously good time. Join the takeover!!!

My love for Guerrilla Queer Bar is strictly conceptual. I hate the notion of just one gay bar or another. Sure, it’s great to have a designated place, but don’t you ever just wish it were all mainstream? GQB takes any bar and makes it okay to be whoever you are. I hated the long lines, but it is what you make of it. If you want something different, you have to try this, you fellow gays. Don’t be stuck in the same routine of Machine or Paradise(or feeling the need to escape to Providence’s Mirabar). Give Boston a chance to prove you that it can shake it up and surprise you! Drinks, courage(or stupidity), and music are almost a necessity. Your mileage may vary.

I’m not gay but I love me some GQB! Ever been to a perfectly boring Yuppie bar and then suddenly hundreds of gay people come flooding it and make it a party? Yep, that’s what happens with GQB. The location? Changes. Find it here: FYI, you don’t have to be gay to love some GQB, but you do have to be fun. Fun is required.

Do something radical for once. The first few were interesting, but if you are going to throw the night at Tequila Rain one more time, geesh… I’m talking radical, public sex, take out music, moving furniture, and making it a queer space. Not going to a bar and giving them all your money through your alcohol abused personalities… Let’s take over some Irish Pub in Southie. Do something different for a change and maybe replace fear w/confidence…

Always a great night out, even for the straight best friends of all the gay kids! It’s just classic to see how the bar staff reacts, especially once they know what’s going on. I’ve been to the Guerrilla Gay night at Tequila Rain twice, since it’s close to my apartment and seems to be frequented by the event, and it’s such a great time. Plus, whenever they can they arrange for group prices at bars with key phrases like«I’m with Cher».

Simple. I like taking over popped collar Yah DooD establishments and queering it up all over the place. word.

Lots of fun. Just make sure you get there EARLY. It’s so nice not to have to just go to the same old scene to feel comfortable. Plus, it’s fun seeing my favorite bars(like the Burren, in Davis, for example) get turned queer for a night!

Guerilla Queer Night is one thing — spectacular. Not only is it a nice change of pace from the usual, boring/same ol lesbo nights that go on in Boston, it’s highly entertaining to see all the confused looks on the staffs’ faces, as well as the other customers. Not only do you get all that — but it comes with a change of scenary every time — as it changes locations, giving you a nice tour of the different areas of Boston and always keeping you on your toes. Two big thumbs up. I’m going tonight to An Tua Nua in fact!

Eh. Although I can see the appeal, I wasn’t exactly tickled pink by the recent one-year anniversary party in Harvard Square. Love the concept, but maybe I’m just more of a pub person. The large following and crowds can actually be a hassle. At Tommy Doyle’s we had to wait in line to get upstairs after paying a(small) cover. This is why I also avoid Disney World. The band was fun, though. If I could, I’d give this 3.5 stars instead of 3.

Clueless straight guy in the bathroom(surrounded by 98% gay guys): «I may just be a country boy Republican from Idaho, but it seems to me there are a lot of fags and dykes in here…» If you love classic moments like that, Guerilla Queer Bar is for you. As we all know from the previous reviews, this event happens the first Friday of every month. Each month they take over a straight bar that many in the gay world wouldn’t think of going in normally, or for that fact, after the event. Where does it happen you may ask? You never quite know generally until that very same day. Get on the mailing list and wait to be notified, just set the date aside and GETTHEREEARLY! I can’t stress this enough for many reasons. First of all, you may not get in without, at the very least a long wait in line. Secondly, if the bar/club and the staff of the place haven’t been tipped off, you want to be there to kinda watch the A-HA moment gradually overtake the place. The result? We get to have a great time in a different place and the only ones that tend to stay are the ones that want to have a great time and watch the spectacle. Good times! I have also noticed another advantage of these events. You often get a greater mix of people than you would get in a gay bar or on a gay night. There is also a lot less of the pretentiousness than you would normally get when surrounded by that many gay people in a club. Gay, straight, whatevs, like the old game says, «COMEOUT, COMEOUT, WHEREVERYOUARE!»(or whatever you are for that matter…) P. S. Don’t be surprised if you see a cute«straight» guy making out with a boy or a tranny by the end of the night…

Take several hundred queers, one straight bar, and a slightly confused staff and stir. What do you get? The best night of the month as far as I’m concerned. More than just a chance to get tanked(though it is certainly that) this is a chance to see a bar you would never have gone to. So that you never have to go back again. I love that the female employees, once they realize this sausage-fest is not the typical yahdood circle-jerk, get in to the night and the male employees stand by in abject horror. Success! This is not the time to be fashionably late as you may not get in at all so come early and come ready to tear it up.

I think this is one of the most ingenious dance party ideas invented! Last friday we crashed the party at Harp and I was skeptical because my lady love and i got there a little early(so unlike me!) and found many a straight person. I felt a little out of place because I am one of those ‘ten foot’ kinda girls. You can tell I am gay from ten feet away. i am a definite tomboy and i definitely stuck out. But after some time passed I noticed more and more people showing up and my excitement rose. I noticed some guy handing out pins and I knew the fun had started. We descended and took over the club and I felt at home. I had one of my best nights in Boston so far, and the music rocked. Its almost like they new we were coming(how many place rock ‘its raining men’ on a friday?) Final thoughts: Thing is awesome and I plan to attend as many as I can. Local bars BEWARE

Check it out — I just reviewed the takeover of The Harp on 6⁄6 here: Jeremy also brings up an interesting question: If I am a straight girl, and I jump on the Gay Guerilla event with my gay boys for moral support and end up loving it as much as they do — and get in a fair amount of booty shaking while doing so — am I a slut? Discuss.(Or conversely, we can settle this via dance-off.) Whatever it is that I did though — I’m looking forward to doing it again with the GG crowd, very soon :)

Guerilla Queer Bar has so many things going for it. Let’s start with the element of surprise– you never know where it’s going to be until the morning of. And no one notifies the establishment. So no one knows that we’re coming until it’s 9pm and the line’s around the block. And then 11pm rolls around none of the regular clientelle can get in– oops. ;) I love the pins too– cher gueverra is fab, but it’s also a nod to being in the know. Last month we were at the Liquor Store– the gay guys were rocking out the mechanical bull, and, although there was an advertised«bikini bull riding contest every friday» they kept their clothes on. So sad. I’m excited to see where we end up this month!

OMG this is so much fun. Now the gays get to experience the gimmicks straight bars dream up and not fear a bit for our safety! I never would have ridden that mechanical bull if not for Guerrilla Queer. Love the pins to identify who’s in, plus ya’ll know the homos throw down the best tips.

Picture this: A bunch of yah-doodz with popped collars and their bitchnizzles with short skirts pull up to their usual house of booze only to find a bunch of homos already inside. That’s right. Boston’s straight nightclub scene is vulnerable to sexual awkwardness! On the first Friday of every month, the members of Guerrilla Queer Bar have been taking over a random straight club in Boston. I was able to attend the last event where we took The Liquor Store by storm! I showed up at 8:45pm to find myself waiting in line with a bunch of my fellow rainbownites and by 9pm, the line was hundreds of people long. This group really knows how to have a good time. The stripper poles intended to wow straight boys are now being booty-shaked by gay men. The mechanical bull that’s supposed to show off the ladies and their itty bitty titties is now being worked by a drag queen. Boston beware. Because the first Friday night of each month, there are thousands of us waiting to take over. Gay, lesbian, gay-friendly? Check out their website for more information and how you can help take over Boston!
