I ordered chicken lo mein and it was a pint of noodles with a few scraggly onions and carrots and three BITES of chicken. Literally all noodles, I couldn’t believe it. And, had to heat it up in my microwave because it was cold. I went back on the site and saw they were closed– I guess I was their last deliver, but I ordered at 7:30– no excuse, grossly disappointed– do NOT recommend there are much better places than this«Chinese» food.

Delivery guy did not want to come upstairs. When he did arrive at my door I said hello and thanks for coming up. Instead of handed me the food(which I’d prepaid with a credit card-including tip) he held the bag and said, «where’s my tip?» Confused, I said, «what?» And he said, «can I have my tip?» Still confused I asked to see the receipt because I was sure that I had already paid and included a tip. He handed me the food and answered with, «Please don’t order again» and stormed down the hall. I called after him because 1) I wanted my receipt and 2) I wanted to make sure that he got the tip I intended. He waved me off, got in the elevator and left. Pretty awful way to treat a good customer. I get the feeling he must have been having a bad day, but that does not excuse his behavior. If he gets this upset about having to deliver food to people who have ordered and paid for it, perhaps a delivery-person is not the job for him.

Not the best chinese food– open late hours, so it does serve late night. not worth the money, in my opinion.

I’ll preface this by saying I have a reliable Chinese place in my hometown and I have been to many others. This is by far the worst Chinese food I’ve ever had. For starters, we ordered fried won tons, sweet and sour chicken, and general taos chicken. The fried won tons were about $ 5 and did not have any meat in them. I wasn’t crushed but it was disappointing. The two of us got an egg roll and a spring roll with our dinners and both spit them out immediately. Bland and cold in comparison to the hot food. The chicken itself for the sweet and sour chicken was fine except an abundance of breading. What was really awful was the sauce. It was extremely sweet and sugary. Same for the duck sauce. I couldn’t stomach it. The sauce on the general taos chicken was pretty good, but the chicken inside was definitely questionable. At least we got fortune cookies.

I ordered the general gau’s chicken and the crab rangoons. The rangoons were dope but the chicken will give me nightmares tonight. I made the mistake of taking half a bite of the chicken and then looked inside… fat, fake, blubbery, highly suspicious meat was what I found. I then finished the rangoons and threw the rest of the chicken out. All in all, I won’t order from here again. There are plenty of other places in the area that have good rangoons AND chicken dishes.

Best chicken fingers I’ve tasted in Boston! Cooked perfect not over cooked or undercooked and my son loves the beef lo mein and he’s very picky so I know they had to be good… will def order from here again:) five stars

I have to knock a whole star down after the the mongolian beef i got the other night. It was onions with bits of meat. I’m not talking about«oh wow there are a lot of onions here, they are stingy». I’m talking about«whoa my GOD did they really just try to get away with this?!» It was TERRIBLE. Onions galore. Onions here, onions there. My kitchen eventually smelled like onions instead of yucky chinese food. The little beef that was there was completely inedible because it was like eating… ONIONS. So don’t get the mongolian beef… and as much as I tend to come here I will most likely think twice about ordering from them again. It was shocking how many onions there were. onions.

Cheap and quick delivery. Good for those late night cram fests. Just your average greasy american chinese.

Great late night chinese food that is hot, fast, and friendly. Is it authentic? Probs not. Is it the most delicious thing you will ever eat? No. But when it’s 2 in the morning and you are drunk it is there for you. I have never had a hangover after eating hong kong café. FACT. They also have mad good coupons for free Crab Rangoon. My Top Pick: Pork Lo Mein Crab Rangoon Fried Rice(hit or miss, but when they get it, they get it so take a shot) Wonton Soup Garlic Broccoli The eggrolls/spring rolls are kinda sketch FYI. PS: if you are ordering on GrubHub, they always say it’s gonna be an hour, but never takes more than forty.

we ordered dinner from hong kong café and it completely hit the spot. we chose one of the appetizer combinations, steamed peking ravioli, fried rice, and shrimp lo mein. the price was moderate, and since the restaurant is only about half a mile away from our house, we decided to pick up our food rather than get delivery and the food was still piping hot by the time we got home. the appetizer combination had 4 chicken wings, 2 spring rolls, 4 crab rangoons, and 2 pieces of steak teriyaki for about $ 10. the beef was delicious, and the chicken wings were really crispy and moist. the crab rangoon were a bit doughy and undercooked, which was disappointing. the peking ravioli were also good. i really liked the shrimp lo mein and pork fried rice since they were both flavorful and came with tons of meat and veggies. i will definitely order from here again, and would recommend it for anyone who lives close to the area or is within delivery range.

This is for their delivery man. I was a customer for two years. However, they would never deliver to my apt door. They always mads me come down. I used to not mind when I didn’t have a buzzer in my building. I do now so I asked the delivery man to come up. When he arrived he said, «we don’t deliver to the door for students» I hate when establishments treat college students like we don’t matter. My money is just as good as everyone else especially when you charge a delivery fee. I’ll never order from them again.

Sometimes a place is fun because you make it fun. That’s my take on Hong Kong Café. I wouldn’t call it anything special, and the first time I went, my inclination was, «A lounge connected to a Howard Johnson’s???» But typically I’ve gone here after leaving Fenway on a hot day, and the combination of a large lounge area with good-sized TVs, very good air-conditioning, and a number of friends accompanying me, and it’s party. Oh, and the most important thing, the scorpion bowls. Very tasty, very refreshing. Just know your own tolerance levels when you have these. I’ve seen the results of some who don’t — it’s not pretty. If you’re going to drink, get some food here too — it’s pretty good, and goes with the atmosphere and beverage selections quite well.

My husband just said, «This is the best Chinese food I’ve had in 20 years!» and he worked in a Chinese restaurant for 6 years. I have to agree with him! We ordered for DELIVERY to Back Bay on a busy Saturday night, and it arrived piping hot in 50 minutes(eat24 listed 30 – 45 as a delivery window). Three of the four items in our order were truly spectacular: the Szechwan Beef, the Orange Chicken, and the Crab Rangoon. We also ordered the Pork Fried Rice and while we both enjoyed it and it was good, we have had better one other place. Still, it was really tasty. We had asked for extra sauce for the Rangoon, which was provided, and we were not charged additional for this. We can’t wait to order from here again!

Oh man, this was tough. Came here for the first time one night recently after working exceptionally late, and was starving. My sister said she had awesome Chinese at this restaurant, so I was pretty excited to try it out. Normally I’m wary of sitting at a restaurant with a completely empty dining room, but this particular time I was relieved(hoping that it would mean quicker service.) I should have taken it as a red flag. It still took me and my BF an hour to get out of there, and we had to flag the waitress down two or three times to get her attention. When she did remember we were there, she was nice and accommodating, but I was surprised that on such a slow night we would be totally forgotten. It got much worse. We had just gotten our drinks and ordered dinner, and out of the corner of my eye I saw a mouse scurry across the dining room floor. I immediately went to find the waitress and her know, and she came over to check(it had left by that point.) She said it was an old building and probably the next door hotel’s fault(?), and that their kitchen was very clean and that they don’t usually have this problem. She asked if we wanted to leave… and I should have said yes. I literally couldn’t concentrate on anything but scanning the floor for the rest of the time. We decided to stick it out, though, for the delicious Chinese my sister promised. When the food came out 15 minutes later, I tried my Chicken and Mushroom entrée – and it was awful. Chicken pieces, raw carrots, and mushrooms piled on top of white rice with chicken broth poured over. Maybe the most tasteless thing I’ve ever paid for at a restaurant. My BF said he liked his Kung Pao, but my opinion was pretty much set on this place. Honestly I was surprised to see that we were still charged the full bill after the mouse incident. But that combined with the inattentive service and bland dinner makes me certain that I’ll never come back to this restaurant again, or recommend it to anyone else.

I’ve held off on reviewing this place for a while for fear that I could be highlighting a great pre-Sox place that the masses will then come ruin, but then I was like: «Mike, dude, you’re pretty much the only one who reads your reviews… well and you read them out loud to your wife to show her how funny you think you are so it’s kind of like she reads them too.» So anyhow, the beer selection here isn’t very good, but you’re like two blocks from Fenway, so when you finally go staggering over for the game you get to make fun of all the zhlubs who are still in line waiting to get into Remy’s or wherever… plus you can order Chinese food at the bar and it’s actually totally solid Americanized Chinese food… plus Casey the bartender is awesome… plus(well minus really) you can get scorpion bowls.

Ask for the lunch menu because the dinner specials and combos are on here too. Holla if you feel me! I use to love Hong Kong back in the day when I went to high school around the corner at Boston Arts Academy. I was shocked when going back to this place and Unilocaling it that it had such low ratings. The food is really good and portion size is really good. The service I must admit is iffy– and you might feel a little bit of attitude from some workers. I don’t mind this when I can get a combo for under $ 10 in Fenway area. I will be back eventually. I had the general gaos combo. Other friends had scallion pancakes, tofu broccoli(amazing), and spring rolls.

Never heard of a Chinese restaurant charging 25 cents for extra mustard. Makes you wonder about what they are skimping on in the food quality dept. Also, driver wouldn’t deliver to my apt because he was afraid of getting a ticket? First time for that(keep in mind that the restaurant is only 2 blocks away, let alone numerous pop-in parking options at restaurants or other retail store lots). And I pay a delivery fee and tip for this? Very bad.

I feel bad writing a negative review, because the people were extremely nice. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with Hong Kong Café. The food took an extremely long time to arrive and was not very good… Honestly, it was bad. There are many better places in the neighborhood.

This review is for their delivery and food. I have not ordered Chinese in Boston in a few years after some bad experiences at Sunrise and Nan Ling. However, Hong Kong Café reminds me of a place back home and is the one takeout Chinese that has not made me want to jump off of a cliff here in Boston. Crab Rangoon is very good and not greasy. Lo Mein — a little too greasy for my liking Boneless spare ribs have good flavor but are somewhat fatty. Fried rice — very tasty and they give you an abundant supply Spring rolls — rather bland, not worth the extra couple of bucks. Delivery — I order on and now two out of three times the guy has arrived 20 minutes prior to the estimated delivery time. The third time he arrived exactly on time and apologized for being late. I really appreciate a place that actually has nice delivery men. Best of all it is pretty cheap. I just cant justify giving a takeout Chinese place more than 3 stars. So as far as takeout goes, this place is at the top of the ladder.
