This is our favorite Sichuan chinese food restaurant in Boston. We have ordered take-out from this place numerous times and dined in a few times as well. Always good! Our favorites are the mapo tofu, kung pao chicken, xiang-la dry fish filet. We have also ordered the fish filet with spicy chili sauce, the eggplant dish, and dan-dan noodles. All very good and so affordable. Only wish they delivered!

We ordered egg drop soup and steamed vegetable dumpling to start. The soup was lukewarm and flavorless, the dumpling came about after and had to send them back as they were still partially frozen inside. We should have left We stayed for the entrée: Shredded pork with bamboo, flavorless, lukewarm and the pork possibly not fresh. Sesame beef, tough to cut and chew, but at least warm. However the broccoli and bell peppers were cold and nearly raw. Waiters never asked if we wanted anything to drink besides water, never asked how we were doing. Worst ever.

Pretty authentic Chinese spot with flavorful dishes. The restaurant is spacious but can get very busy during peak hours. I’ve liked most of the things I’ve gotten here(string beans, dan dan noodles, spicy dumplings, kung pao chicken, twice cooked pork, fish fillet, spare ribs, etc.), and while it is Sichuan cuisine the spicy dishes are a manageable level of spice.

Came here the other night with a friend. They had come the week before and felt the craving for it again. We ordered the fish fillet with spicy sauce and chicken with salt and pepper. The fish fillet sauce was spicy, but not too spicy for my taste. Although everyone’s taste buds are different I think I can handle a medium spicy. The fish though tasted fresh and the chicken came in strips. It tasted pretty flavorful and wasn’t really spicy. Overall the service was good and attentive, although I remember when rice used to be free! But times change unfortunately. We actually ended up staying for a while to talk and they weren’t in a rush to kick us out which I appreciated. Overall, a solid choice for Sichuan cuisine at a decent price for Boston!

Tried the cold rice noodle, mapo tofu and spicy boiled fish. They were all very ordinary, and the mapo tofu had an unusual flavor, which I believe came from some kind of prepackaged hot pot sauce. The cold noodle needed more vinegar and garlic flavor as well. Service was good though. Anyway, it is a restaurant that I don’t think authentic enough to visit again.

The dishes here are all very good and very tasty. Especially the fish with the sichuan chili sauce. Steamed Bacon with the fresh Garlic Sauce is my all time favorite dish from here, and what I have to get every time. The bacon seriously just melts in your mouth and with a sauce so flavorful, this dish provides such an excellent taste together. We also ordered the Lions Head which is like a meatball. We usually order this when we come, and we really like it usually, but this time it wasn’t so good. We found it very soft and actually saw that they have rice in there, which makes the texture really strange. Turns out the waiter said that they changed it and now have added sticky rice in it. Staffs provide great service. Price is definitely really affordable and reasonable. The environment and seating here are very comfortable. Overall, I really enjoyed the food here!

I understand that you can’t expect authentic Sichuan food in boston, But always thought this place was not bad. I went to this place multiple times, has been always happy about this place. but the last twice, food is really disappointing me. Ordered the same dish that we would always order, but came out gross, fish was rubbery that you can tell it has been sitting there for a couple of hours, other dishes were too much spiced but you can still tell the ingredients are not fresh at all. Sichuan food in boston are all going downhill, including this one, sadly.

Probably some of the best Sichuan(Szechuan) food you can get in Boston. Service is excellent here. Ordered the kung pao chicken, wontons in spicy chili sauce, dan dan noodles and shredded potatoes with green peppers. Each of the dishes had good flavor and was close to being authentic Sichuan. What’s missing was a little more heat/spiciness. The potatoes is not a spicy dish, and is good to have to counter the spicy ones. The potatoes were cooked with the right amount of rice vinegar for that little kick. Only the dan dan noodles were a miss. Noodles seemed like spaghetti and sauce. Flavor was mild and not at all good.

Average. Hit-or miss depending on the dish. Some were good, some not so great. Worth a try. Overall 3 stars, not amazing, but not bad.

Pretty authentic Sichuan restaurant in the Brookline area. I came with a group of friends on a Friday night and they weren’t too busy. They take reservations only for groups of 8 or larger, so don’t worry about calling if you are part of a smaller group. We were seated right away, despite only two of our party of five having arrived. I appreciated that they gave us a table and didn’t have us wait for everyone to arrive before being seated. We ordered 5 dishes for our party of five. All of the food came out within 10 minutes(it was almost alarming how quickly the food came out… Probably most of the dishes are pre-prepared ahead of time). We ordered: Mapo tofu($ 10.50): a delicious mixture of silky smooth tofu in a mildly spicy, savory sauce. Yuxiang eggplant($ 9.95): I didn’t like this dish as much. The vegetables were cut chunkily and the sauce was a little overpowering. The eggplant was tender and juicy, though. Dried chicken with chili sauce($ 12.50): probably my favorite dish of the night. The chicken is battered and fried into small crispy chunks, and comes with both red and green peppers. It was rated as medium spice and was the spiciest dish of the ones we ordered. House special roast duck($ 19.95): also very good. The manager told us that this was one of the Sichuan specials, so we were interested in trying it. The duck was roasted and came in a soupy, savory sauce with bean sprouts and glass noodles. Sautéed pea sprouts: strong garlic flavor and tender pea shoots were a refreshing contrast to the other heavy, oily dishes that we ordered. Service was attentive throughout our meal and we were done an hour after entering because of how fast the food was brought out. If you pay in cash, there is a 7% discount!

I went here for lunch today based on the reviews, but didn’t experience anything that distinguishes it from any other common Chinese restaurant. Perhaps it’s my fault for ordering a lunch special instead of a Szechuan specialty item. I asked the waitress if any of the dishes besides the«with broccoli» ones had any vegetables, but apparently her English didn’t include the word(concept?) «besides». The hot and sour soup had a funky aroma and taste that I’m not used to, although I couldn’t begin to identify it. I figured the spring roll would be over fried and half dough, so went with the crab Rangoon. I don’t know exactly just what’s inside it — perhaps some low quality variation of cream cheese, but am quite certain there isn’t anything even vaguely related to a crab. I will say that the fried shell was surprisingly light and just the right amount of crispy. They give you a pot of tea and the wait staff will refresh your water if it gets even an inch below the top of the glass. Near the end of my meal I went to the washroom and came back to a completely soggy placemat, so someone either missed or wasn’t paying attention — I’d like to think that if it had happened earlier it might have been replaced. There was a TV going over the bar, and the house phone is insanely loud and irritating — no doubt to encourage the staff to answer it ASAP. The main plate arrived with a really huge mound of fried rice over the chicken with broccoli. Others have noted the dearth of vegetables in the rice, and what stood out for me were the shrunken and pock-marked canned peas — how much more do frozen peas cost? The broccoli was more al dente than I care for, while the chicken was OK — if the usual variety of mixed small pieces — perhaps that’s what«mechanically separated» means. I think the next time I want lunch out I’ll spend more for less volume and go to a Japanese place.

I am completely obsessed with this place. A chinese restaurant with seriously good food that isn’t sweet. I hate sugary syrupy chinese, and this place has the best food that won’t send you to the dentist. My absolute favorites are 1. Dry chicken with chili sauce. Not a bit of sugar. Make sure you get white rice because this is spicy and you need the white rice for balance. I could eat this every day for the rest of my life. 2. Beef with long green peppers. 3. Dan dan noodles. This place is where I requested dinner from after the birth of my 2nd child, and 4 other meals since then(4 weeks) and I just want more and more. It is a shame I live 40 minutes away.

I had been going to the Sichuan Gourmet location in Billerica for the past year because it was close to where I had been working. My co-workers and I would go at least once a week because the food is ADDICTING. After the first time I tried the smokey hot chicken with cayenne(Z20, yes I have the lunch special code memorized), I was hooked. From then on I had to have it every week. One time I brought my girlfriend up to have lunch with us and now, she is addicted too. Fast forward half a year and we both crave this delicious Sichuan cuisine constantly. I work closer to the city now so we take almost weekly trips down to this Brookline location and order the smokey hot chicken with cayenne and xiang la fish with green beans and rice. It is just as good at the Billerica location and has much more space for seating. The staff is very friendly and the food comes out quickly and has never been less then amazing. If you are looking to challenge your taste buds with firey delicious Sichuan food, this is the spot to go!

Even though this is the same restaurant as the one in framingham, this location is not as good. My friend and I usually come here when we are craving sichuan food, but too lazy to drive to framingham. We usually just order the double cooked bacon and the beef, tendon, tripe in chili sauce. They taste good, but not great. Both of these dishes are better at the other location. It’s hard to pinpoint the exact difference, but its definitely noticeable for those who have tried these dishes in framingham. I highly recommend driving to the framingham location for a more authentic experience, not to mention, better versions of the dishes you will order.

Loved the food at this place. Amazing shezwan for the best price. The service and hosts were courteous and nice. The food is just amazing. Loved the fish in shezwan sauce and shredded chicken. These were the best. We also ordered the chicken dumpling, which was just OK. Highly recommend the shredded chicken and shezwan fish. They dont accept amex cards. Sometimes parking can be an issue. We had to wait 10 mins to find a spot. BUT the wait was worth it.

Went back the other night with a couple of friends and tried two new dishes! Kung bao chicken and the scallion pancake with beef wrapped in it. The kung bao chicken is slightly sweet and is so tasty. And the scallion pancake was nice and crunchy, especially since they put cucumbers in the roll too. Service is quick, but they try to rush you out the door so you can awkwardly stay how long you want or plan to be there for a short amount of time — so if you plan to catch up for a while with a friend, probably not the best place to go.

Pretty much my go-to spot for tasty Sichuan food(well, assuming that the T is running, which isn’t always the case during the winter…) I pretty much get only three dishes when I come here — 水煮鱼, 回锅肉, and then some kind of tofu or vegetable dish. Their 回锅肉 is probably the best I’ve had in Boston, flavorful without being too oily. I’m also a complete fan of the level of spiciness(and I don’t mean lack thereof — they don’t skimp on the peppers or peppercorn!) in their 水煮鱼, I think they could definitely be a bit less stingy with the amount of fish. I always feel like a pirate digging for fishy treasure in an island of cabbage(moreso than I have with this dish from any other restaurant). The food comes out in a reasonable amount of time, and while their service is not always immediately attentive, it’s pretty easy to flag down a server whenever you need anything. Best of all, it’s right next to the T-stop, so weather itself is never a deterrent to coming here! Lack of transportation… that’s another story.

I’m not sure if I ordered the authentic Szechuan foods, so please give me advice! I would love to explore this menu more, but there was so much to conquer on that menu. FOOD Dan Dan noodles — These were interesting. At first glance, you don’t think there’s enough sauce or toppings for the amount of noodles. But it worked. CAUTION: This dish is extremely spicy!!! And I can take spicy foods very well. Kung bao chicken — Nothing special. Like your normal kung pao chicken with peanuts. Pork lo mein — Very tender noodles. I will say this place is DIRTCHEAP for Boston. These 3 dishes were $ 33 plus tip! The service was very quick, and filled with Asian people, so the restaurant really is authentic. You can always judge an Asian restaurant in Boston by how many Asian people are eating there. And by how many Unilocal stars there are. This is definitely a step above other dirt-cheap Chinese joints around the area, so you should give this place a try.
