Go here almost every week, super cheap for the city and cashier is always friendly. Pretty wide variety of Asian foods. I personally come for the sushi and sometimes the dumplings. For the price, I gotta say best sushi in town.

The buffet has about five different kinds of sushi — nothing special but satisfying, and most of all — super affordable. Other hot dishes like chicken teriyaki and veggie stir-fry were great as well

Sushi is not to be eaten: the rice is mushy, the fish questionable. How long has it been since it was prepared and sitting out on the salad bar? Your guess is as good as mine. The price was a big factor in trying this place out because a lot of other reviewers said it was comparatively inexpensive compared to the value. I wasted $ 15 dollars on a: small miso soup, 6 pieces of sushi, and a few assorted cold salad bar items. Thats just not worth it, considering I threw most of it away. Remember: if sushi ‘to-go’ sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Meh. Aggressively mediocre. Someone advertised this place to me as a cheap sushi oasis. There were two types of nigiri(salmon and tuna) and 4 kinds of mali(crab, avocado, tuna and salmon). For $ 10 I got 4 pieces of nigiri and the equivalent of one roll. Tasted ok but for that price one would expect better selection. Sampled some of the hot buffet as well. Just ok. This place is NOT the second coming…

Came here for lunch the other day and the food was edible/ok. I enjoyed their seaweed salad and pork dumplings, but i would be a bit hesitant getting the sushi here if i were you. I loveeeeee raw fish but don’t be expecting some fresh quality fish here. The color of their salmon and tuna were a bit discolored and dark, and it’s also clear that all of their sushi have been sitting out at the bar for quite a bit. One of the tuna nigiri that i had was a bit icy and chewy, and the sushi here are ridiculously cold/near frozen compared to what you would normally have at any other sushi joints which felt a bit uncomfortable in my mouth. Everything here is by weight and the only form of payment that they accept is CASH, so be sure that you have some cash on you.

Loved it! Cheap and tons of light, healthy options. Def my new fav lunch spot. One of the few places around you can eat for $ 5. I had 5 pieces of sushi, broccoli, and some spinach that was TODIEFOR for like $ 4.80

Really really great salads. One of my favorite places in Boston. No question about that

This place reminds me of a typical Asian style salad bar. They have all the standard salad fixings and well as some buffet style Chinese and sushi. I ate mostly the cooked sushi since I never trust buffet style raw fish. It is the only place in downtown where you can get teriyaki tofu, which if it’s something you like I would go just for that. Overall seven bucks got me some pasta salad, tofu and about 8 pieces of veggie/California rolls. Yes, it is cash only but they have about four signs in bright neon once you walk in… pretty much if you miss it you’re not paying attention.

I too am a sushi fan and was skeptical about getting sushi here. So to remain safe, I just got the california rolls and I was pleasantly surprised! But I got their salad too… not too many out of the norm choices but it’s not too bad. Good for something quick. And their hot items are really good, when I get hot items I always get the chicken wings and this spicy chicken entrée… so good! And who can’t pass up an egg roll? Not me! But be careful since they do weigh by the pound sometimes you can spend just as much if not more by going to somplace that you really want to go to.

Cash only and sushi that’s been sitting out for hours? Pass… Much better options in the area.

Dear Jane’s Salad and Buffet, Do I love thee? Let me count the ways I do not: 1.) You really should have a bigger sign than a post-it at the counter saying it’s cash only… or how’s this? Buy a credit card machine and get with the 21st century 2.) Your price isnt bad, but that’s pretty much because while I’m making my death salad I’m eating all the heavy stuff as I walk along when you arent looking(do it folks) 3.) Stale, wilted, overcooked, overdressed. Applies to everything in the salad bar. 4.) Sushi? Noshi… stay away from it(read another post that said to do the same but duh you have to try it to experience it) Now I understand people, you want to create your own salad… be your own boss… YOU make the rules… but trust me on this, go to Boston Kebab where you can boss people around to make your salad for you(extra handful of craisins PETE!) Jane’s is a waste of $ 8(should be $ 14 but I choke down all the sushi and spicy chicken while I wait in like) Go somewhere else… anywhere else. Hell, 7Eleven has a great little deli section and I bet the deviled ham salad sandwich goes down easier.

I’ll admit, I was a bit skeptical of buffet sushi, but I can’t stop going to Jane’s as of late. I’ll typically get 3 – 4 pieces each of the tuna, avocado and cucumber maki along with some tempura veggies and spend only six or seven bucks. Sometimes the fish seems a bit tough, but it’s hard to complain since three rolls or so is equivalent in price to only one roll at other sushi restaurants around the corner. I’ve never tried much else there, but I don’t have to since their sushi does the trick — it’s probably one of the cheaper items too since everything is by the pound. It’s cash only, but if you blow it and forget cash there’s an ATM right around the block at international place.

I ate here for the first time today, scoffing at the crowded Subway restaurant across the hall of the office building that Jane’s is in. Jerks were missing out. The hot buffet is plentiful with healthy choices, both asian and non. The salad bar was on point as well. I almost ate about two pounds of food. Whoops. The only reason I didn’t give Jane’s five stars is because their veggie egg rolls, while huge in size, were too salty for me. That’s my only gripe though. I will definitely return for lunch again.

This is my second time coming here and I like this little joint. The first time was a few years ago and I completely forgot about this place until today. It’s still the same as before – friendly and has lots of variety even for the picky eater. The cashier always greets you with a smile and so appreciative when you pay for your meal. You can tell this place is very clean and their food always fresh. When you enter, you pick up a take out box and you fill it up with what your heart desires. This isn’t a 5 star buffet but it does have wide variety of asian and american cuisines. It varies day by day but you can count on the sushi, fresh make your own salads, pasta, veggie tempura, chinese dumplings, noodles, etc. There’s a couple of buffet station to choose from. It’s just $ 6.49 per pound so go enjoy and pick and choose a bunch of stuff. It beats a boring Subway sandwich with chips…:) Today, I went for a quick lunch after busy time and picked up some sushi. I like th esushi rolls because they aren’t as heavy as the nigiri. It’s perfectly made with fresh ingredients and bite size. They don’t have a wide selection but they do have the ones I like such as california roll, salmon roll and tuna roll. I stuffed about 15 pieces in the small box and paid $ 5.15. Not bad and I had money leftover to buy an ice coffee from dunkin as dessert! I have to warn you, it crazy busy during lunch time and seats are very very limited. Either go before 12PM or after 1:30PM. CASHONLY! Give this a place a shot, you wouldn’t be disappointed!

This place does an excellent salad bar/buffet. Unfortunately, due to medically-necessary dietary restrictions, I can’t eat most of it. Namely, I don’t eat any grains(rice, wheat, bulgar), sugar, any starchy veggies, or any dairy. It’s an insulin thing. This sort of shuts me out of the main attraction of Jane’s: the sushi! It looks like fine sushi, although one must weigh the potential health hazards of eating cheap raw fish. I really like Jane’s veggies(the cooked spinach, sliced zucchini, and kim chee) and the grilled chicken… however, since I’m paying the same amount per pound as the people loading their container with sushi, well, I’m sort of bitter about that.

I like sushi, I like simple. I love this place! Jane’s is an amazing lunch option two blocks from Post Office Square. In the stainless buffet tables you can find everything from your standby salad greens and salad fare to buffet chinese, to fruit salad(more towards the back), to what I consider the crown jewel of this place: trays of nigiri and roll pieces BYTHEPOUND. I’ve read some of the other reviews on here complaining about the quality of the fish, and I have to say I’ve never had a problem, everything’s been delicious. The size of the tuna steak on the nigiri is huge compared to any sushi place I’ve been to in Boston, and the eel and salmon are both good. The rolls are a little heavy on the rice and light on the fillings, but you get to pick them out of the salad bar so if they’re not up to your standards, it’s your own dang fault, get some glasses. What I love is I can cruise in here at low altitude, avoid everything but the sushi, and get out for about $ 7 for seven or eight large pieces of nigiri or rolls. Try that anywhere else. You can’t sit here, you can’t eat here, but you can walk over to PO Square and see all the suits out lunching on the grass as you feast on the fruits of your forage. Fantastic!

I think that to enjoy Jane’s, you must meet one or both of these conditions: 1) You are poor. 2) You are hungover. Conveniently(sort of), I was both today, and so I enjoyed my Jane’s experience. The noodles and tempura vegetables came with that rare kind of grease that your body craves after a debaucherous night out, while the sushi and semi-fresh fruit assuaged my half-hearted desire to «purify» my system after so many sugary drinks(although both were unsettlingly squishy). Lunch wasn’t completely cheap, since those pay-by-the-pound places can really get you if you’re ladling on the sauce with a heavy hand. And the cash-only policy launched my coworkers and me into a chain-reaction of «I’ll cover you» and«Okay, I’ll owe you this much.» which may never be unscrambled. But the sushi is half-price after 3pm, so if you are still hungover and starving in the afternoon, this is probably the spot to which you should stumble. But what if you’re not hungover? And fairly financially responsible? Well, good for you. You should go someplace better.

I had been avoiding this place because of the lukewarm reviews here. But I work a block away and I love sushi like a sickness. And I think my daily diet of Al’s is making me tubby. So I tried it. The sushi is of supermarket quality and was inoffensive until the last piece of salmon, which I had to spit out due to chewiness. Good thing my officemate was out of the room. Its main attribute is that each piece of fish sits on a massive mountain of rice, as Jane’s charges by weight. Not very good rice. Jane’s other marketing tactic pertains to the hand’s inability to divine a pound. My(I thought) fairly restrained selection of several pieces of sushi, a small salad with tofu and one pork dumpling came to $ 9. At $ 5.24 a pound, that’s 1.7 pounds of food. Not so healthy after all. It’s okay though because I didn’t eat it all. The salad was bitter and the dumpling gross and chewy. I’m switching back to Al’s. Really, how fattening could prosciutto and mozzarella be?

Nothing spectacular. Run-of-the-mill sushi that tastes just okay, along with some other salad and chicken type of stuff that you’d see at a traditional business district salad bar. But here’s the secret. After 3 pm, it’s suddenly half price. So it’s an amazing deal. Shhhhh, don’t tell.
