Excellent pizza! We also had great mussels and great service. Cozy place for a cold evening dinner.

Joe V’s serves up simple food in a nice laid back neighborhood setting. If you live right in the South End it’s a perfect place to kick back on the patio or pick up dinner to go. I’d recommend ordering one of their tasty thin crust pizza pies and a nice salad. If you are there for a sit down meal, try the Sangria. It was delicious and incredibly refreshing on a warm night.

I Ordered Pizza from this place, they took more than 30 mins to get pizza, but it was cold and cheese was not that good. Service is too slow. Can be in grt location, not that grt place to hangout with friends.

comfy south end eatery packed with locals. i could live on the pan fried calamari. love the char on them fresh, tender morsels w/sliced jalapenos & red sauce. grilled salmon over mixed salad(or pasta) would have been perfect except the fish was so greasy. why? avoid the grilled steak tips. possibly cooked over the salmon ‘cuz it tasted fishy. and was tough. special of baked haddock, asparagus & mash was looking good. should have had that.

My boyfriend and I have walked by Joe V’s a thousand times on our way to super cool places, like the movies, and have smelled plenty of appetizing aromas. Since we decided we were going to go out for a meal instead of basking in Dorito dust while playing Xbox for 12 hours straight, we figured Joe V’s. Why not. There were a few open tables, but a girl placed us at a hightop table literally touching the table next to us. I was practically sitting on a neighboring woman’s lap as she spat to her Bostonian husband about«The Skype» and«Web-camera-ing.» The atmosphere was nice — typically underlit and close — but the radio was SOFUCKINGLOUD. Manic Monday is a decent song for me to sing along to when I bomb around with my gurlz in a roofless Jeep Wrangler, but not while I’m trying to eat my dinner at a place with no entrees under $ 14. The waiter wasn’t as bad as many of the people claim the service to be, but he was rather strange. He asked us to give him the gossip from the table next to us(you know, the one I shared like in a seventh grader’s cafeteria), but I really didn’t feel like talking about someone while they were next to me. I’m petty, not bitchy. The food was utterly unspectacular. The barbecue pizza we shared was decent, but I’ve had better from greasy joints on Mass Ave. My mixed green salad was basic, yet cost eight bucks. My boyfriend couldn’t find a thing on the menu that wasn’t saturated with mushrooms– it was even in his chicken soup. I would consider going here again, but honestly, I have a better time at The Upper Crust.

I visited prior to going out on a Friday night with two friends. We ordered drinks and a main course. The place has a great neighborhood feel, and doesn’t require you to be ‘seen’ with the socialites on Tremont St and lower Washington St with the rest of the gayggle.(Translation for others: the gay social scene with label whores and trendy establishment name-droppers who hang out at aforementioned places– pun on gaggle of geese) The food here was most awesomely priced– main courses at 15 – 20, specials slightly more, and the portions were slightly above normal sized. I have a large appetite and was fine after the main meal. It might not be the best place for a date– the place gets noisy and the door is opening a lot. I had chicken with risotto and asparagus, which sounds rather plain but was done well. There are more simple-items on the menu for those who aren’t adventurous, which doesn’t describe me, but I didn’t want to break the wallet. A colleague had mussels and an arugula salad which smelled and looked top notch. For serious drinkers, the bar service does not have a full stash of booze, but it does have a full license. The choices for top notch cocktails are limited compared to other bars. The staff service was witty and kind even though we were sitting next to the door. If I lived in the South End I would surely be in here often!

Small, cozy, friendly and with great prices; Joe V’s specialty is pizza but they have a full menu including wonderful lobster ravioli which I just can’t get enough of when I’m lucky enough to be back in the old neighborhood. Outdoor seating under the large oak tree is bliss, especially on cool summer evenings or warm Autumn night watching the foot traffic go through this historic, brick-sidewalked neighborhood. A definite must-do if you’re in the South End and looking for a casual but wonderful lunch or dinner.

Their thin crust pizzas are to die for! I used to love Fig’s pizzas but I think Joe V’s is on top of my list, hands down. They have been very consistent in terms of their pizza quality. We just ordered recently and we have always been satisfied. Love the ambiance of their cute restaurant as well, especially in the summer when they have the patio seating. The staff are always super friendly. Their Margherita pizza is my personal favorite and my husband loves their Bbq Chicken. Just can’t get enough of Joe V’s pizza. Have always been back and will continue to go back there again.

Always liked the pizza here –not upper crust but I have lived around the corner for 10 years and have been going since they opened. Always got attitude from one waiter but figured it was close and they had pizza and beer so i would put up with it. Went last weekend and this same waiter would not seat us in the half full restaurant! he rudely explained he was having a conversation and could not seat us until he was finished! Then after he was done with his conversation he went inside and would not acknowledge we were waiting for a table. I WILLNOTBEBACK. Looking at their other reviews it looks like this guy single-handedly looses them a good portion of their business.

One day at work, we decided on a spontaneous outing for drinks, food, and some conversation. We were actually headed elsewhere, but as we got close to Joe V’s, decided that since neither of us had been before but wanted to go, we’d stop in and see what’s up. We walk in, are promptly seated, and brought menus. I’m quite honestly surprised by all the bad reviews of the service. The folks we dealt with couldn’t have been nicer! Super friendly, and just the right amount of chit chat. We ordered a bottle of wine, and I loved the fact that it was served in little glasses. It gave the place a nice homey feel. There’s no pretension here. We also got the mushroom and caramelized onion pizza. It came out quickly, and hot. Very tasty indeed. It’s definitely a neighborhood spot. Seemed like a lot of the folks coming in were regulars. But we felt completely welcome as first-timers. I’ll definitely be back.

I ate here twice either to give it a second chance or i didn’t seem to learn my lesson. The first time I had the«Meatball with Linguini» The pasta was adequate and meatballs we like someone diced a leftover hamburger and some left over hunts. Nothing like i had ever had before… Just Bad! I figured maybe it better to stick with the pizza next time. Months later I went back… Tried the Pizza it was also adequate and cold. Not to mention the staff both times acted like they were just barley tolerating us sitting at table and distracting them from being bitchy to the other customers. Not the sort of stuff that neighborhood restaurants are made of.

It’s strange to see so many negative reviews about the service… I’ve never had a problem with it. I always get the same waiter and he’s always friendly and hilarious. This is definitely one of my favorite places to go in Boston. Great neighborhood feel, delicious pizza(get the mushroom with caramelized onions and garlicky cream sauce), and decent affordable bottles of wine. That’s my idea of a good night.

Pretty delicious! Ultra thin crust, but good-size pizza so you don’t feel like you are missing much. We picked up our phone order so I can’t comment on the table service. The guy seemed nice enough but I was blabbing to a friend(catching up, you know!) so I really didn’t have much interaction. We ordered: bbq chicken, mushroom and brocolli!!! and carmelized onion and mushroom!!! both were yummmmmm w/whole wheat crust!

Well, I really do not post or participate in boards much at all(I’m more of a lurker) but our recent experience at Joe V’s prompted me to write these lines. Our servers were beyond rude and unwelcoming. It seems that condescension is job requirement at Joe V’s. Check out their«Rating Details,» around Sept. values dropped like the stock market. This is no coincidence and if you read the most recent reviews they all complain about service. To be fair, I cannot speak for the quality of their food as we never got to eat any. From previous reviews here it seems that their pizzas might be good. If you want to try them just order takeout, it is just not worth eating in.

I grew up outside of NYC and have lived & worked in NYC(for more than a decade) and traveled the country(Kansas City to Minneapolis — San Fran to New Orleans) for work — eating at various places all the while. I am a desperate foodie and one of the most easy going people on the planet(don’t take my word for — ask all of my friends). This was a ridiculous experience. On a Sunday recently, the staff went out of their way to be snide, obnoxious, outright rude and condescending. We sat there in utter disbelief — I looked them up on Unilocal on my phone and sure enough reviews confirmed that their staff acts like children who have been spoiled rotten. Needless to say we left and we plan never to return — unless the manager wishes to apologize and gets some new staff. Please heed the Unilocal warnings, they are quite on target!!!

The boy that took me here summarized this establishment quite well — he said it’s a place you wouldn’t really drive to, but rather go to because you live in or are in the neighborhood. The restaurant to me, was a total neighborhood feel. Somewhere that would have familiar faces whether they be staff or customers. And I like that. The food here was pretty good — we split an arugula salad as well as the lobster ravioli plate. They have a good selection of beers(all bottled) to choose from as well as wines and your standard liquor. The space is small, but more cozy than cramped. I’m still relatively new to the neighborhood, but I met a few people as my friend ran into friends of his who go here every Friday night for dinner. Our waiter was really nice and did a great job serving throughout the visit. I’ll definitely be back here when I’m looking for a zero attitude meal in a place where even the new guy is allowed to try out the neighborhood favorite.

A bitterly disappointing experience with pizza at a place I’d thought was decent when it first opened. Got a couple of takeout pizzas recently. Joe V’s has a lot of competition with terrific pizza nearby — The Dish, Picco, Mangia Pizza — so we haven’t given them a lot of business recently. But we like to spread our custom around the neighborhood, give everyone a shot at least once a year. I always scoff when I hear pizza crust described as being«like cardboard» — I just assume such comments are from people who don’t know or appreciate really thin-crust pizza. But that’s literally how these crusts looked, like something I take out of my boxed shirts from the dry cleaners. They didn’t taste much better. I was also unimpressed by the toppings. The nearby competition is using fresh ingredients: everything on these two pies tasted like it came out of a can or a jar, especially the roasted red peppers. The«fresh sausage», which once tasted house-made, now tastes like something the Sysco truck dropped off: a frozen commercial product. I remember this place being much better when it first opened a few years ago. Maybe they’re coasting on their early success and reputation. The pies we bought, 2⁄3 of which ended up in the trash, were more like what we’d expect from a Southie late-night drunk-trade joint on Broadway, not a charming-looking South End place. Baffling, disappointing, and no way near worth the mid-teens prices they charge for them.

i was really surprised at how much i liked this place. somehow the reviews here didn’t seem so convincing that i thought i was going to really like it — i just figured i would think it was OK. well, i was totally wrong. i can’t get over how freaking AMAZING my pizza was here! it was the yoga pizza with arugula, fresh mozzarella, mushrooms, something else, and truffle oil. the truffle oil tasted so earthy and delicious. definitely my new vote for my next last meal on earth! my boyfriend really enjoyed his spicy sausage pizza as well — and we left with a LOT of leftovers, so i bet two people could comfortably share a pizza. which is a totally-reasonable-for-the-so-end $ 15ish. the sangria was really good too. service was a little too laid-back, but whatevs. we’ll definitely be back.

Joe V’s is a very unassuming place. Its low key, casual and nothing trendy(which I like) but the food will knock your socks off. I’ve eaten here a couple of times. Most recently I got the Chicken Marsala. I was a little disappointed when it came out because I thought it was thy meat but I think it was a breast. its served with spinach, topped with shaved parmsean and the chicken is topped with carlmelized(sweet) onions and mushrooms with a yummy broth type sauce. It wasn’t your typical chicken marsala but it was delicious. The gnocci is also good– cooked just right and served in a tomato cream sauce. There is outdoor seating in the summer which is nice because the restaurant is on the corner of Union Park, the prettiest park in the south end. Great Place, great food, GO!
