Good spot. Your typical bar food. Wings, nachos, burgers are all good. Lots of beers on tap. What we enjoyed most was the selection of board and trivia games available to play at the table.

Popped-in here for a quick drink before calling it a night. It was a Sunday at around 10pm, and understandably, the place was largely empty, so scoring seats at the bar was really quite easy. + Fast bartender — Smallish tap list + Decent bottle offerings + Reasonably priced + Tons of televisions and other games/and stuff

Came in on a Sunday afternoon hoping to grab a nice afternoon bite with some friends. This may come off as totally insulting, but I didn’t find their food worth eating, could have tossed up something myself like that at home. But I guess its just not that type of place you want to go to specifically for food. Possibly a poor choice on our behalf

Came in for the first NFL game of the season on a Thursday night. It was pretty empty about 20 minutes before kickoff and really filled up within the first quarter. They have a good(not huge) beer selection, both bottles and drafts. We got two orders of the Jalapeño wings. They were good, not spicy at all. The flavor was great. The chicken itself tasted a little overdone, but it wasn’t a huge deal. We also had the housemade chips which were great. Would go back if in the area, but it’s not a must-go spot.

Came here for drinks on a Friday night before a dinner reservation. Good selection of beers and wines for a decent price. We were seated at a booth near the bar — pretty nice atmosphere. They also have foosball and some other games up front, which we unfortunately didn’t have time to try this time. The waitresses were very friendly and I’ll definitely have to come back here another time to try more of their menu! Dan’s 2¢: I came here to get my swerve on, just a little bit before suppah. The end.

Didn’t see the game wall! Sad face. Came in here on a whim early Saturday night for a beer and light dinner. Rebel IPA was suggested, and it was just as well since their draft list is hardly extensive. Our waitress was wonderfully charismatic though, and as a dive bar denizen I’ve come to appreciate that much more. Onto the food, my friends burger looked good, while I went in for the buffalo chicken rangoons. I mean, technically they were dumplings and were served with ranch sauce. Sad face #2. All in all, it’s a very passable city bar but not my prime choice.

Good food, nice staff. Just went for drinks and snacks, didn’t get to play any of the board games but got a kick just out of seeing them all on display. Looking forward to a brunch and games in the near future.

Interesting night here. My friend was put into a joking headlock and slipped out of it and the bar told him he was too drunk and had to leave if he had another drink. Everyone around and involved in the ‘fight’ told the bar staff it was a joke and they didn’t seem to care. The second he touched a drink he had to leave, and since it was his birthday, ¼ of the bar left too. Bad idea. Drinks were fine, service was a bit slow, especially since our side of the bar was packed and I felt a bit ignored on our side.

Came here on a Saturday night and waited in line for 30 minutes. it was pretty empty inside so there’s no way they could’ve justified having people wait. Then again, it was the Saturday before St Patty’s Day. I’m sure every bar created lines just because. They play pretty good music and the atmosphere isn’t too bad either. Their drinks though weren’t strong at all. They taste good, but not strong. I’m pretty lightweight. It takes me 3 to get drunk. I was completely sober after 3 drinks. Totally sober. Needless to say, if I ever come back to Boston, I will not be back here.

This place has pretty standard bar food you find everywhere else. The beers and drinks are pretty typical selection. There is a few TVs here always tuned to sports channel. My favorite thing about this bar is the stacks of board games they provide for free. Jenga and taboo are my favorites here but they have pretty much any board game you can think of, making it a great place for friends to hangout and bring some food and drinks, I always have a good time when I go here.

Aw, writing a review for this place makes me nostalgic. It was my version of HIMYM’s MacLaren’s for a year, located within walking-without-a-coat-in-the-middle-of-winter distance from my apartment. It was the place I went when I was too lazy to actually go anywhere on a weekend night, but had friends who«really wanted to go out» and I «knew this great pub.» And I’ll admit, «great pub» is perhaps a teensy bit of an exaggeration. This place is relaxed, the food is solid by pub standards, and the board games are a nice touch(though many of them are missing crucial pieces). But it’s not the be-all-and-end-all of pubs, and it’s partially going to depend on what you’re looking for in a place. It’s great for catching up with friends or meeting up with a big group if you’re looking for a large space, but it’s not the liveliest of places compared to the Boylston Street bars. Personally, that was exactly why I liked it, but it might not be everyone’s cup of tea(err, mug of beer?). This place also deserves a special shout-out for their awesome signs. After a long day at work, passing a sign that simply said«Beer(arrow pointing inside)» and«Snow(arrow pointing outside)» would make me smile. (OK, that was probably not the best example without seeing it yourself – but I swear, the signs are funny!)

Decent place… my friends and I had a good time playing Jenga… I’m writing this, however, because I bought one beer on my credit card and was charged incorrectly. I got a Magners and a cup of water and closed it to my card, which as a bartender myself i know can be annoying thing to do(but I needed water and had no cash)… so with the $ 6.46 bill, I left a $ 3 tip. When it cleared through my bank, it came up as a $ 10 charge. $.54 is not a big deal… but the principle of changing my tip is… I already left a good tip on one beer… why round up?

Any restaurant/bar that has an entire wall of board games is automatically on my Awesome List(yes, I have an awesome list. I carry it in my back pocket). Our waitresses were friendly and prompt. My fish sandwich was good — the bun was a little too big for the amount of fish, but whatever, it was definitely worth the price. I always love me some fried pickles, and Mass Ave Tavern’s were no exception. One of the best parts? We came with a party of 10 on a Sunday afternoon and had no problem getting a seat right away, which was great! I’d definitely come back.

We stopped in here for a couple drinks after walking across the bridge from Cambridge. As the name states, it’s a bar right on Massachusetts Ave. Mass Ave reminds me of Lindbergh Blvd in St. Louis. It’s a street that just seems to go on and on. Anyway, as I said, we only stopped in to have a few drinks and to watch the Rams game in the afternoon. This place is just a typical pub. It is not a huge place, but the people here were very friendly. Our waitress was nice enough to tell us that there were several things cheaper than the bud light bottles that we were originally going to order. Bud light bottles there are $ 8.50 each. Ouch! So, we were very thankful for our $ 5 beers. If you’re looking for a quick drink, or to watch a game, this isn’t a bad place at all. Maybe next time I’ll try the food.

There’s a time in every man’s life when he thinks the 4th of July fireworks aren’t going to start till 10pm, enters a busy restaurant at 9:00pm, orders food, realizes they start in 30minutes, and he gets stressed. Real stressed. What makes it all okay? When: the waitress is super prompt, the manager helps with taking your order, and the staff know how to work their customers even when they’re jammed tight with people. Most of the food I consumed was unchewed while eaten, but I recall the turkey burger tasting amazing, and if I had the waffle fries, they probably would have too. Good spot, cheap pricing, quality food, and perfect when you’re in a rush.

Don’t fail to find this worthy successor to Match! It’s an awesome haven of wings, beers and watching the game, but don’t let the TVs fool you — it can be a sports bar during the Pats game, but their food is good quality, the service is friendly and they are one of a handful of establishments that stock board games for your table! That’s right, have a pint, play a round of Jenga! You’re probably better at it than Mitt Romney. Thanks Mass Ave Tavern!

I just realized I never wrote my promised post-renovation update of Mass Ave Tavern. After many repeat visits, I am still very much a fan. The food is consistently good and well-priced. I particularly like the macaroni and cheese and the turkey burger. The latter is quite salty(which I love but you might not) and served on a really good soft bun. The fries are also delicious, crispy, and addictive. Mass Ave Tavern is rarely super-crowded, so it’s become a go-to when we want a casual meal without waiting for a long time. They have lots of tvs, usually showing sports, and the staff is friendly and helpful. If I could change one thing about Mass Ave Tavern, I would update its draft beer offerings. They have five beers on draft, including Goose Island Honkers Ale, Harpoon IPA, Guinness, Stella, and Allagash(I think). I’d like to see one of those taps rotate an interesting keg, just to add some variety. It’s not that the current beers are bad by any means, but I don’t really think of Mass Ave Tavern when I want to just drink beers. We’ve been in for dinner during their Wednesday trivia and that seems worth checking out too. Finally, they have plenty of special events such as 90s nights, and are worth following on Twitter.

Is doing something for the third time really the charm? Apparently, this place made it happen. I have been to this bar three times so far, and I actually liked coming to this place for the food and the drinks. The first time I came here, I met with the Boston Unilocal Community Manager and his entourage, which included his interns that assist him every day, and a bunch of interesting people that seemed to be fun to talk and hang out with. Their appetizers are really good here, they serve a really good nacho plate, probably big enough for 4 people and their chicken drumsticks are also a great choice as well for 2 people. I was able to eat a little bit of the Cubano Sandwich they had here, and it was also really good. I really liked the toasty bread. The second time I came here, it was after work, and decided to «unwind» and get something to eat. I had a Fried Fish Sandwich. It is big enough to feed a really hungry stomach. I really like the fried fish, it was nice and crispy on the outside and had a good soft texture on the inside. The bread was decently good. It comes with cole slaw and fries, and by the time I finished the sandwich and cole slaw, I was starting to get really full. The third time I came here, it was on a whim after work, and I encountered a somewhat garrulous but nice girl that I have hung out with a few times. I decided to get some Curry Fries. The fries had a nice crispy texture, and had a good saltiness that made fries typically addicting to eat. The curry sauce was pretty good and the portion was huge enough for 2 people. Prices were also reasonable as well. The beer selection they have here is really good and I usually found their beer nice and refreshing. The most recent beer I had was a Whale’s Tale Pale Ale. It was a decent beer. This bar provides some great entertainment options such as board games and foosball, and they actually provide free wi-fi as well. The bartenders are fairly nice as well. One evening on a Tuesday night, they were playing some good songs from the 1990s, which brought back some memories. Overall, I actually liked coming to this bar for the drinks and the food. It has a comfortable and clean interior and they provide some fairly good entertainment options. This is probably one of the few bars that I actually would not mind coming back here again and I would say it’s a good choice.
