Came here with the girls on a random night. They have a pretty nice selection of beers, I got an Angry Orchard Crisp Apple and Oktoberfest Sam Adams. It wasn’t a particularly busy night, so I don’t know what was up with the server because I just remember she was rude. I can’t remember specifics, I just remember thinking that. haha If I come back to Boston, I’m not gonna come back. Not necessarily bc of the poor service, but I wouldn’t be returning to Boston for this! They did have some good sounding deals though. Worth a checkout if you want a super low key night.

There’s nothing special about this place other than the fact that it’s not an upscale/overpriced/trendy bar. There are many of those around in this area, and if you’re just looking for a quick bite to eat and a cold beer, look no further. The food isn’t spectacular, but it gets the job done. The burgers are pretty tasty and everything on the menu is reasonably priced, including the beverages. The bar is never crowded and is always easy to find a seat. The service is average at best. So if you’re bored and just want to get out of the house and take a stroll around the block, this place is an alright place to end up.

I got a kick out of Remmingtons’ bar. They have been in business since 1984 and the place definitely has an 80’s feel to it. The draft selection was good and the service was great. I did not try the food as of yet. There is a comedy club downstairs which would be a great place for Open Mic Night. Be careful here late at night, Downtown is very shady late at night and this side of Boston Common tends to have a lot of drug dealers, etc. hanging around.(My Story: Came here on a Wednesday on my way home from work for a beer. This younger male started engaging me in conversation asking me to buy him drinks and just making me very uncomfortable. The bartender was very responsible and professional and straightened him out but I will be extra careful next time I stop here for a beer.) If people here engage you in conversation I suggest you be as unperson-able and uninteresting as possible. Don’t make it appetizing.

My enjoyment of Remingtons was short lived as our waitress was friendly, but was too busy with her phone, watching the game on tv, and her friends that were sitting by the bar. I say friends as they were sitting by the bar area were she was standing and they weren’t eating or drinking. As far as the food, it was good, but not great. The buffalo wings was too saucy for me, but the new england clam chowder was good. We also got a half bbq rib with fries. The remy fries were very good and my bf enjoyed the bbq ribs. Like Saige B. said, the atmosphere is very pub like and I can see myself getting a drink here from time to time. They have angry orchard cider which I like, but if I go here I would probably sit in the bar area.

Not bad for a hole in the wall. The pub is a dark and a bit dingy but the service was excellent. It was a quite night when we arrived to grab a bite to eat before seeing a movie. We ordered the hot wings and onion rings. The hot wings should be renamed to HELLAHOTWINGS! There were flames shooting out my mouth after one bite. It certainly had kick to it. The onion ring order was so huge, a small village could have been fed for a few days. They were served hot and crispy. We only ordered 2 appys so I can’t say much else about the menu.

Having worked next to Remingtons for the better part of two years, I thought it would be worth finally breaking down and trying it. Pro — It’s filthy. Con — It’s literally filthy. Pro — There are no students in there. Con — There really isn’t anyone in there. Pro — They have old trivial pursuit cards on each table. Con — They have really old trivial pursuit cards on each table. Pro — They have food. Con — It’s probably better elsewhere.

They have spinach artichoke dip that is pretty good, but its pricey. I heard the nachos were good, but the cheese was not at all metled We ordered Irish Coffees and instead received coffee and Jameson whiskey. I get that you are promoting Jameson Whiskey — but don’t change my order! Luckily the waitress noticed and brought us the correct drink($ 8.50 for a small small cup too, eep!) The place isn’t very clean either, and they watered down their guiness– my friend said she got a plastic mug(green), and I guess they assume you cant look in and tell, but she could really taste the difference. watered down beer is not a pleasant taste! Tehy are expecting the drunk folks not to be able to tell i guess

I stumbled into Remington’s one afternoon for some lunch and a beer. I liked the un-fancy atmosphere and the familiar service, but the food was not very good. I had a piece of fish that tasted like it had been sitting in a puddle of deep fryer oil for hours. Not very tasty. If it weren’t for Remington’s comfy no-frills vibe, my review would be much much lower.

This place has the feel of a chain restaurant while being stuck in downtown Boston. It’s right in the middle of the city and I only had a few drinks here so my review is kind of thin. I had beer and some chicken tenders things that were mediocre at best. I’d only go back if I was desperate for overpriced beer.

When one embarks on an assignment to Boston, knowing that many parts of this wonderful historic city often can be more British than Britain these days, with it’s stoic and often medieval old buildings, going back a few centuries — which is rather old for America — along with some beautifully spoken, articulate voices ringing out through clean, polished streets. You often think you will come across the ghost of Paul Revere as he comes riding, riding, riding and then you realise he fathered 16 children so, the thought of him riding, riding, riding might make you remember that it’s something you may want to forget and simply push that thought back into the memory banks and merely take it as a ‘Revere’ double entendre warning. However, one thing anyone would dearly love to emulate — in this very fine aristocratic city — is the memory of that very welcoming, warm feeling one experienced when watching the brilliant Cheers comedy series — Well, it was born out of this very city, from 1982 to 1993, showing loads of heart and good cheer and where everyone remember’s your name. So, hello to Remington’s of Boston, who could be trading on a bit of a steal, where they ALSO promise to remember everyone’s name, but the friendliness of the place reassures you that it is not just a gimmicky ploy to drag you through their doors. You feel they will remember you, even if you happen to be one of the little people from remote parts of Bavaria. After all, they do have comedy nights, so it’s not such a bad joke. Remington’s first opened in 1984, so long enough for Cheers to have become a house-hold name and also for the stylistic television series Remington Steel to throw itself in front of gaping TV viewers where everyone salivated over the very fine male form of Pierce Brosnan(his face wasn’t too bad either) — who also later became a 007 hunk — and who played a mischievous ‘thief’ turned detective, with gorgeous possibilities in ‘Steel.‘ I am certain none of this passed our fair Remington’s owner’s minds when they first put their plan of opening into action because co-incidentally the Restaurant/Pub is housed around a vault — being the old 1920’s Branch Exchange Trust Bank, so, Remington Steel himself would have felt very much at home here counting his stash — not that he was actually involved in the famous ‘crime of the century’ in Boston in 1950 when the Brink’s Heist hit the news. $ 2.7 Million they got — the largest ever haul at the time in USA history. But, Boston always had an interesting underworld. As we know from the recent arrest of ‘Whitey Bulger, head of Boston’s notorious ‘Winter Hill Gang.‘ All that naughty miscreant history aside, the menu in this very easy going dining arena reads like many a pub/bar/restaurant in the USA, but the service is indeed warm and memorable. Friendliness and levity seeping from it’s walls, which makes you keep on wanting to come back and back. The food is delicious and not at all expensive. My Maryland Crab Cakes, which I always dive head-first into did not disappoint and my main course of Haddock and Remy fries was scrumptious. Although, I am not one who normally goes for a greasy option. My taste-buds were obviously hungering for a great plate of fish and chips — Ye Olde English staple diet(Please don’t let this last part make you feel too bilious) however, this also left me more than satisfied, probably as satisfied as every American felt after ripping off the English Lion’s ears in 1773 when committing the ultimate and hilarious atrocity on the British at the even more famous Boston Tea Party. I didn’t have tea to finish off, but, maybe I should have done!

A pub for young execs with identity issues and think they’re still college seniors. Came here after work on Friday with about 15 young guns from work. Very college(but not collegiate) feel to it, with food to match. The pizza was surprisingly above average, but the nachos and potato skins were about as tasty as kissing someone with morning breath– really not ok with it, but you have to do it to practice your gag reflexes. Guinness on tap… good, so automatic +1 star. Other pluses: — great view of the street for people watching; — TVs for ballgame coverage; — lotsa seating room. Not much of a smile from staff, likely because they know this crowd is fresh meat and pinching every penny, so tips are likely to be ‘meh’. Not my first choice for a pub, but will come again if others book it for group events.

Located on Boylston St near the Boston Commons, the location is great and convenient. It is a tradtiional bar /pub. The bartenders are pretty attentive, but the waiter service is a bit lacking. In my numerous visits here, its been slow. The food itself is okay. Not gourmet but better than fast food. I’ve had burgers, tenders, and Grilled Reuben’s in the past.

A great go-to spot for drinks before partying it up or after a silly movie with a bunch of friends. A notch better than your typical dive, it’s an irish pub that’s got some great staff– I forget his name, but the older gentleman who checked our ID’s was a riot and regaled us with a fantastic story about growing up in Charlestown. Super low-key, our group of 8 got a round of beers, spinach artichoke dip, sweet potato fries, and nachos. the fries were faaantastic, perfectly crunchy and not dry; s-a dip was very good as well, nice chunks of artichoke and spinach, not just the defrosted TGIFridays crap some places like this serve. Bring a chick here for a first date or try to impress someone? no. Have a group of buddies together and talk about nothing and the Celtics? sure!

Good place to get drunk, not for food. They had a pretty good selection of beers, and the atmosphere was a good pub atmosphere, but the food and service: not so much. Sat down at a table with a party of 8, the waitress was not very attentive, and the place was not busy at all. 4 of the 8 orders were messed up, even after she returned a second time to make sure she got them right. Had some nachos, they were average bar nachos. I’m not very picky, and I don’t send things back often, but do not order the clam chowder. Probably my mistake for ordering chowder at a bar, but hey its Boston, I was craving it, and it was in a bread bowl. I couldn’t eat it, it had a metallic after taste like battery acid, probably from a can. Anyway i couldn’t eat it, and the server did take it off the bill, so that was good. One of my friends had a cheese pizza, that looked decent, probably your safest bet for food here. Like I said though, the beer selection was good, and anything is worth trying twice, so I would definitely be willing to go back and try something else from the menu if the opportunity came up.

On a recent Thursday night, having just escaped from a four-hour copy-editing class, I found myself with only one possible course of action: Get my liberated ass to Sweetwater, grab a pint or four and unwind at the end of what was more than likely a long week. This was my one cause. My one mission. My one purpose. Or so I thought. For what would be the first of two or three Thursdays in a row, Sweetwater was closed for a private event, leaving me high and(quite unfortunately) dry. Until, that is, one of my companions noted that, hey, Remingtons is open. I’d only ever gone to see friends’ stand-up shows in the basement, so I was prepared for maximum awkwardness and the general feeling of uncomfortableness that usually only comes with jokes about bestiality and bad first dates. Actually, though, the place ain’t so bad. There’s Trivial Pursuit cards in cups on the bar dating from about the first-ever genus edition(sample question: «What is the capital of East Germany?», a card which is now tacked to the wall in my office), there’s usually a Bruins game on one TV and Keno on the other(offering ample yet amusing frustration and confusion, respectively), and it’s never really all too crowded. The bartenders are a little less than attentive, but hell, I’ll usually be distracted long enough with trying to remember Montana’s state nickname or picking at my companions’ nachos to notice that my glass is empty. All in all, is Remingtons the be-all and end-all of Boston bars? Nah, but they serve beer and they’re never closed for private functions, and that’s good enough by me.

My gf and I were in Boston, getting ready to head back home to NJ, when we decided to stop here and get a quick lunch first. I didn’t check any reviews out before coming — it was the closest place to where we were at that moment. The inside is a dark pub with some tables — we opted to sit right at the bar. The bartender was friendly and took our order right away(steak tip sandwich and buffalo chicken sandwich) as well as 2 beers. The gf enjoyed the buffalo chicken sandwich(although in her words, it’s kinda hard to screw that dish up). My steak tip sandwich — which I later saw was a favorite at this place — was also pretty decent. Food came out quick, which is always good. No surprises on the bill. Pretty standard bar-type food with standard pricing. My gf did use the restroom at one point, and she commented that it was pretty gross, so try and hold it in if you can.

I will give this place credit for the friendly service. My friend and I stopped in for drinks and a bite to eat. The hostess quickly approached us and asked us if we wanted a table, but we decided to sit at the bar. The bartender was really nice and she continually checked on us to make sure we were doing okay and to refill our drinks. However, the bar food here is unimpressive. I got the rodeo burger which is basically a cheeseburger with bbq sauce. Well the bbq sauce was lacking so the burger was pretty dull. It also came on an onion roll and since the burger didnt have much flavor, the roll was all I could taste. I only took a few bites before deciding I didnt want to eat this anymore, so I moved onto the fried stuff and didnt turn back to the burger… Onion rings actually came on the burger, but I took them off to eat separately. The onion rings were the best thing on the plate. The fries were okay, they are the type that have a little bit of skin on them. I also got a bowl of clam chowder which thankfully was very good and I ate the whole bowl! I am glad I ordered it since I clearly was not going to be satiated by the burger. So if you do eat here, I would recommend the chowder and the onion rings, but definitely not a burger and fries. And the weirdest thing about this place is the bathroom. I walked downstairs, opened the door, and felt like I entered a dungeon. Just creepy…

My friends like to joke that I’m a bit of a coupon queen. But, owning an Entertainment coupon book lead me to the gem that is Remington’s. My fiancé and I went to a 5:30PM movie and wanted to get dinner in the area. Since Remington’s had a 2 for 1 entrée coupon in the Entertainment book, we figured, why not try it? We arrived at Remington’s a little after 8PM. The restaurant was crowded, but we did not have to wait long for a seat. When we sat down, we noticed board games behind our booth and trivial pursuit cards in a coffee cup on our table. We’re trivia fans, so we enjoyed quizzing each other while we waited for our food. I ordered a chicken cheese and onion sandwich on french bread and my fiancé ordered a cheese steak on french bread. We both loved our sandwiches and tasty fries. We also ordered drinks and the service was quite quick. We were impressed and plan to go back to Remington’s the next time we’re in the area. It’s a great replacement for our old go to restaurant, Benigans. The dinner menu can be a little pricey, but if you stick to the sandwiches or burgers, it’s quite reasonable.

Oh… Remingtons. I feel so sorry for not getting love. 2.5 stars total? I am not surprised. But I love you. Because I think you and I are a lot alike. When I was in college, I had friends near by. While after I graduated, those friends got married, popped kids and moved to suburb. But I remained unmarried in the city. You and I are the pillar of the time. So this place is the definitely odd ball in this area. If you are collar popping douchebag who wants to score some chicks, go to next door — «Gypsy bar» because you won’t find any hot chicks here. If you are gay and find this place too gross, go to other next door — «Estate». They have much more impressive décor there. Contrary to neighboring venue such as Gypsy Bar, Estate, etc. you won’t see a line coming out of here or blaring music with packed crowd. It’s usually not so busy even in Saturday. Foods are mediocre but satisfying. If you pick a burger, it can’t go wrong here. Beer selection is pretty mediocre pub standard. Joe-the-6-pack delight plus yappie selection(Guinness and IPA). This is definitely holes in the wall place that should belong in Dedham/Needham/Southie somewhere blue collar town. Not a place for college kids or elitists who lives in Back Bay and Downtown. And I thank God that a place like this is still left in downtown Boston. Stay strong, Remingtons.

Remy’s may not be the best bar in Boston, but it has a special place in my heart. I first discovered Remy’s after a botched outing to somewhere in the Alley with friends. Looking for somewhere close to grab some drinks, we wandered into the first bar we saw — Remington’s. It was kind of dead, but that worked out for us because we were able to take over half of the upstairs. Our waitress was pleasant, the food alright, and the drinks strong. I went back for a second time on New Year’s Eve when all the other bars we tried to go to were either closed or packed. It was much busier this time, but there was a table big enough for all of us and we were promptly enjoying ourselves with Trivial Pursuit cards and stiff drinks. Though I’m not the biggest fan of their food(it’s not horrible, but not outstanding), I keep going back. It’s rarely crowded, so you’re pretty much guaranteed a place to sit. The staff is friendly and serve some of the best mixed cocktails I’ve had in the city. You don’t get pressured to leave right after you finish your drinks or food, which is nice. The place has a very relaxed, familiar atmosphere, which makes it a great place to chill out with a pint or what-have-you. The bathrooms may not be gleaming and glamorous, but I’ve definitely been in much worse. Plus, the cartoon horse racing that plays on a TV over the bar is hilarious, especially when you’re a little tipsy.
