I appreciate it when wait staff(in this case a waitress) is honest about a food selection and tells you people don’t like it and often send it back! And for all of you Unilocalers who are wondering what that choice was — mahi mahi tacos. I went in on a Wednesday night and it wasn’t very busy, but service was kind of slow. But I won’t hold that against them because there appeared to only be one waitress working the floor. The chips were really good. Freshly made & very salty, just how I like them. I had two shrimp tacos and a chicken taco with rice and beans. They were very accommodating when I asked to have a mix of refried & black beans! The food was good. Not amazing, but certainly not the worst I’ve ever had. I didn’t have one of their nightly specials, but the person I was with did and it was a steal — $ 2 tacos(excluding sea food). I’ll be back because it is convenient and I was happy with it. There are a lot worse options in Southie.

Food and drinks are OK. Service is abominable. So bad. Stopped going after we had friends coming to meet us at 8pm one night and were told they were closing because they only had one server on. We weren’t in a rush at all. but the server wouldn’t let them in. Ridiculous.

I used to love this place… I really did. We moved about 20 minutes away and haven’t been there for awhile. 2 days ago my wife really wanted their popataco. When she brought this home, the entire recipe had changed from what it use to be. The beef was super low quality. I honestly would rate Chipotle much higher than them right now. I give 2 stars because i know what it use to be. I’m guessing there is a new chef and alot of corners were cut. I won’t be going back any time soon.

Save yourself the time and money and go to chipotle for a meal with fresher, better-tasting ingredients. Ambience: –Smells like the rest room of a hospice unit. –Bathroom light doesn’t work, nor does the replacement reading lamp. Soap dispenser empty. –Dark, most tvs unplugged(maybe to reduce carbon footprint?), walls dirty and marked up by chairs. Generally kind of depressing and unkept. Food: I ordered chicken enchiladas for 13.95. –Came without silverware –Only thing on the plate besides the«enchiladas» was rice, which was dry and bland. –The enchiladas consisted of three tortilla wraps, each encasing dry bits of crumbly chicken, which tumbled out like dog kibble. Best part was the cheese, which had been burned on top of tortillas. I would have asked for some salsa, refried beans or sour cream maybe to give some kind of flavor to this meal. But the server didn’t return to the table until we asked him for the check. Left feeling quite ripped off. The space would be better off as a chipotle.

Fantastic food(my fav in Boston!) and a laid back atmosphere and staff. Drinks are good but they could use draft beers. The fajitas are great, as are the burritos and pretty much most of the apps I’ve had were great. Highly recommend the trek out to Southie to try this one!

Gross, gross, gross Mexican food. The chips, nachos, and tacos were all bland or greasy. Even the margarita was bland. Please someone take this place over, it’s a waste of a good space.

Went to Salsa’s in Southie with my g/f. We had a groupon and wanted to give it a try. At first impression the place looks a little like a dive bar. The food here felt very sub-par and cooked in a microwave. The queso was obviously microwaved with shredded cheese. The meals were ok. The $ 5 margaritas are VERY heavy on the sour mix! The only saving grace here was the service. Our waitress was very attentive and was always checking on us to see if we needed anything

let me preface this review by saying this is a place for locals and regulars, not the fine dining experience if you are visiting this great city. if you want high class go elsewhere, this is a local joint with good food and cheap drinks. they have specials almost nightly on food so go hungry. I wouldn’t say the staff is unfriendly more that they are casual Bostonians, aka a little rough around the edges. start with chips, salsa and guac and tell them keep the chips coming, they’re addictive! the red sangria is a personal fav or mine, as are the fajitas. overall if you want a good bang for your buck and aren’t expecting white glove service, hit up salsa’s! *side note, they’re been on groupon recently so check for a deal on there in advance!

Inconsistency is probably the best way to describe Salsa’s. My wife and I have enjoyed some really good meals as well as some not so good meals. Its hit or miss based on many different factors. For example, we went in last night for a quick bite to eat and the waitress seemed like she could care less about us and our order. We both ordered a burrito grande(1 veggie and 1 steak) and they both came out completely wrong. One was chicken and the other one was a pile of rice and steak(missing the black beans, salsa, the fixings, etc.) Shame on us for not speaking up on the screw up, but there was no opportunity to do so as we didn’t see the waitress until it was time to pay the bill. This little mix-up could have been avoided if the waitress used the pen/paper that she brought to our table to write down our order instead of just showing it off. Also, not that it’s a big deal, but the menus reflect different prices for margarita’s and it’s hard to determine what things actually cost. A little consistency and effort from the wait staff could really improve this place. It’s the small things that make someones dining experience enjoyable and will entice people to come back again and again.

Cheap drinks, ok food, and a cozy atmosphere. This place isn’t the best place in South Boston to catch a meal, but if you want a cheap bite to eat with a beer – this place is key. The good: price, atmosphere, service The bad: food is not great, but not bad.

Seriously I ordered the enchiladas and expected them to be awesome. Instead there was this huge, ugly, purplish smelly thing in them. I was so disgusted I couldn’t eat anymore. How can you mess up enchiladas? Their mango margarita, however, was pretty good.

This place is brutal. Hostess never made eye contact let alone said anything, only grabbed menus and started walking in annoyance. Food was just as unappealing and service was painful… don’t waste your time, there is a reason this place is dead.

Mediocre quality food(e.g. tortillas and salsa seemed like there we just picked up at Shaws) and mediocre service(big bowls of beans and rice served without serving spoons)

Long time customers. Quality dropped after they opened the larger space… picked up a year or so ago, but seems to be on a downward slide again. Not very busy tonight — but waited 45 minutes for carne asarda and a chicken casada plate. No special order. Food came out stone cold. I mentioned it to the waitress — actually picked up one of the«sauteed» cauliflower pieces and put it in her hand. She thought she might get burned… but then it sort of dawned on her how cold it actually was. She nicely took it back to have it «re-fired»…so about 5 minutes later, I got my cold meal back warmed up… probably with the vegetable we had both touched. Sorry Salsa’s… you lost 2 long time customers tonight…

As I’m writing this review I’m still sitting and waiting for the check. This has been some of the slowest service I’ve ever experienced, and for truly mediocre food no less. As a group of 6 we tried the enchiladas, quesadillas, burrito bowls, and tacos, all of which were lukewarm and tasteless. My advice: don’t come to Southie for Mexican. Or, if you do, head over to Loco Taqueria instead.

Salsa’s is very solid, straight-forward Mexican joint in Southie. The ambiance is lackluster, but the food and drinks are always good and reliable. I’ve never had a bad meal here. Chips and salsa are perfect and plentiful. Carnitas and fajitas are my faves. $ 2 Taco Tuesdays are a steal. It’s never been terribly crowded when I’ve gone, and I’ve never had to wait for a table or service. In my experience, service has been up and down. To their credit, though, I’ve never had the same mediocre server twice. The good folks seem to stick around.

Stick with the chips and salsa. Service was slow, forgot our drinks and the food was just OK.

My roommates and I came here on Cinco de Mayo and were pleasantly surprised to find… that Southie actually have a really good spot for Mexican food! If you like spicy, make sure to try the jalapeño margarita. They weren’t overly sweet and had a nice kick. For dinner, I got the steak fajitas and a whole lot of guacamole while we were waiting for our entrees. The services was also friendly and as prompt as they could be on arguably the busiest day for Mexican restaurants of the year. I’ll definitely be back again!
