Pretty good sushi. Nice setting and good happy hour. I would have given it a higher rating, but the hostesses were horrible at customer service. No greeting. No eye contact.

Excellent service and amazing food. It was my first time, but won’t be my last. Bartenders made amazing suggestions on what to order. Everything made my taste buds explode. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who would like to unwind and have a few friends to come with. Everyone was very welcoming and very knowledgeable. I will be back and yes I would bring friends.

Fun atmosphere. Great location. And some of the best sushi I have ever tasted. This place has become a go-to for me. An excellent location for date night.

We just had a holiday party and I decided to order food from Japango. The manager, Jon, was incredibly nice and easy to work with. He put together a menu of sushi and hot appetizers that fit our budget. They even delivered the platters to us. The food was amazing and the amount of food was perfect! Everyone loved it! I highly recommend Japango! We will definitely visit the restaurant in the near future.

Overall, Japango is a nice go-to, especially on Sundays when other sushi establishments don’t offer happy hour. Japango did, so that’s where we went. I always forget that the Spicy Calamari isn’t breaded; it’s good sautéed/pan-fried but was too salty for me. I won’t be getting this one again. Also, I prefer my calamari dried. The winner was the unagi+avocado roll. Mmmm. unagi.

One of the worst sushi restaurant experiences ever. First off we went there on a Sunday afternoon because they were one of the few sushi restaurants open in the late afternoon. It took them a while to acknowledge us. Finally we were seated in the back corner it took a while for our waiter to acknowledge us too, he was very inattentive and it took nearly 15 minutes to get hot tea. He kept mentioning things about variety of football games and disappearing for a long breaks as we had to flag down other servers to complete our order. We ordered a lot of food including spicy calamari, pork dumplings and several sushi rolls and sushimi. We decided to go for a second round of sushi the restaurant was getting ready to close for a few hours before they opened again for dinner. This sushi chef was on the phone behind his counter and we watched him to see if he would wash his hands before processing our next sushi order. He did not I actually had to run up to the sushi bar and ask him to wash his hands after using his cell phone. So phones are known to be one of the dirtiest items a person can touch so I was appalled that he didn’t wash his hands after using his phone. Between the lack of friendliness and attentiveness of our waiter and the clear disregard for health standards by the sushi chef I could never recommend this restaurant for anyone. It is also very overpriced and the sushi is not well presented and not of great quality. We spent $ 150 on sushi and we all left and ended up with stomach aches later in the evening. I’ve had a better experience at Hapa across the street and on the cruiser ride sushi bar, with the hippies.

I really like the ambiance of this place. They have a cool jelly fish tank that is mesmerizing. All of the staff is very helpful and friendly. My experience of their sushi is that it’s very middle of the road, not bad, but not great. The seaweed salad was good and so was the miso. The ginger is nice and spicy. I appreciate that they offer real crab as an alternative to imitation crab.

Japango has a fabulous El Corazon roll that is, indeed, all about love. With spicy tuna and fresh jalapeño atop a crispy-ish rice cake, it’s beautiful and delicious and sums up what Japango offers… very tasty food, a fabulous selection of accessible wines, and two happy hours — early and late-night. You cannot go wrong here as the menu is large enough to please all people, and they serve late into the night while offering a lively late night scene — right on the Pearl Street Mall.

Checked out this place on a Saturday night and was impressed with the fresh chic décor. Very modern, if you can sit on the fron or the back patio which was super cute and secluded. My friend and I hit the lat night happy hour and tried the Brussel sprouts which were just ok. Not my favorite. We then tried 3 of their HH sushi rolls and for the life of me I can’t remember the name of the one that we both absolutely loved But it had honey, avacado, and nuts on the outside and was amazing!!! We also tried one with sarracha sauce and shrimp I believe, it was tasty. The last was the one with beef on top and that was a little different to what I’m used to. Not bad, but not great. The drinks we had were not the best or made well. My friend asked for a vodka, lime, splash of soda… they brought her vodka, no ice and twist of lemon… when she took it to the bar to fix, the bartender looked at her strange. It was just a little awkward. Our server took a while to warm up.(Crazy I know). Honestly don’t think she has the best personally for that job. But after seeing we were relaxed and easy going, her demeanor changed and she became more friendly. Watch out for the soy sauce on the table, we found a nat in ours. As we sat there and looked at other tables we could see why. They are constantly around and like to fly into the spout. Overall, good HH with half off rolls, awesome ambiance. I’d say hit the HH if you had the chance.

Stopped in for a drink and to meet a friend. Sat at the bar. Loved all the different types of drinks they could make. So many choices. The bartenders where friendly and made the suggestion for me. I can’t remember the drink, it was good.

Maybe their sushi is great, but skip the bar. I gave it two chances and ended up disappointed by the service both visits. The first time I felt the bartender discriminated against my friend, who is not from the U.S. He used his passport as identification l and the bartender said he couldn’t accept it because he had«never heard of the country.» Look at a map!!! The second time, the bar wasn’t closing for another hour, but promptly after serving us a different bartender started cleaning up the bar. He seemed bothered by our presence at the bar and was ripping up the drink mats. I never feel welcome here and won’t ever return. Go to somewhere else for cheaper drinks and a pleasant wait staff.

The owners should be very aware of their incompetent manager. I did not get her name but she was an Asian woman who handled a situation very poorly and threw her hostess under the bus in front of clients. First, I’d like to say; As locals that bring clients to Japango on a weekly basis spending an average of $ 175 per visit while enjoying the food, we consistently find that the place is poorly run and that the staff is ill informed and poorly trained, except for a few. We request Will when possible. I chalk the problems up to poor management and it has to do with the same manager I’m complaining about today. We were a party of 3 that arrived in the afternoon for lunch. We went to the hostess and requested a table for 3 outside. There was one table outside. The hostess said she’d gladly seat us outside. We walked back out of the door and toward the table, a man quickly ran to the table and began to sit down. I said; we were being seated at this table sir. He said; that lady, a waitress, told me that I could sit here. The hostess looked confused and unable to do her job in that moment; she requested that the manager come over to resolve the issue. At this point, the hostess should have simply stated; I seat the tables, these people were here first, so I’m going to have to give them the table but, I’m willing to get you the next table available outside sir. Unfortunately, she obviously received poor training as she had no clue what to do. The manager came to her and asked what the issue was, and the hostess explained that we arrived at the hostess counter, rather than sitting down at the table, and then requested it. She then said that she confirmed that the table was available for our party of three and that we could be seated at the table. The manager looked like a dear in headlights, unable to make a decision as to what to do. The hostess looked uncomfortable. The other man said; the waitress said we could sit here. The manager asked the hostess why she was seating us there if the waitress said he could sit there. The hostess seemed stunned, as she should have been. The job of the hostess is to seat the tables and ensure that conflicts like this do not arise. The waitress’ job is to serve. The manager’s job is to understand that the hostess is the host and manages the seating of the tables. The manager simply looked stumped, the hostess embarrassed, and the waitress wasn’t around. Everyone stood and waited for the manager to do something. Everyone was obviously uncomfortable while waiting for the manager to make a decision and manage. She didn’t. We recognized that we were in an extremely unprofessional scenario and said; so, what are you going to do? The manager was frozen, which means she should not be managing. The gentleman that sat down without having spoken with the hostess said; we’ll leave, this place seems really disorganized and unprofessional. I said; I agree, we’re leaving too. The manager then said; I’m sorry. I said; why are you apologizing to us, you should be apologizing to your hostess as you didn’t allow her to do her job and you are obviously not doing yours. So, Japango lost clients. As locals that bring clients to Japango on a weekly basis spending an average of $ 175 per visit to enjoy the food. We consistently find that the place is poorly run and that the staff is ill informed and poorly trained, except Will. I chalk that up to poor management. Fire the manager! Get a new one that knows how to train people and handle issues of this nature. When people do not understand their roles, expectations and responsibilities, these issues are bound to continue over and over again, costing the owners money. This situation cost the owners approximately $ 700 per month in addition to the times that I would have gone on my own to Japango or with friends(once or twice per month). Until we see that the manager has been fired and replaced with someone competent, we will not be spending our money at Japango. Will is usually our waiter, he’s awesome! Make him a manager, he knows what to do. It’s annoying when people are preaching or playing bad music loudly when trying to sit out on the patio. Get rid of the televisions.

tl;dr: 3.5 stars — the sushi is only ok, not great, not bad… they do have interesting drink options and a good happy hours — I’d return for sure! Breakdown: 4.5* — HH handrolls! Lots of fish, price is right; not a lot of taste though, although I added wasabi to my soy sauce to make it better, not a lot of avocado 4* — service — I asked if they could do a tasting of some things and he set it up before telling me the price or amount — it was ok, but would’ve been good to know in advance, otherwise fine 3* — non-HH pricing is a bit high

Stopped in for a quick lunch while visiting Boulder the day after a Red Rocks concert. This is located in the middle of the Pearl Mall which has tons of shops and eateries. There is outdoor seating but it was full so we were seated inside. Our server was attentive and good. We started with the lobster app. Fried pieces of lobster tail in a spicy sauce. It was very good! Then we had a app(forget the name) that was mushrooms stuffed with avocado wrapped with salmon then deep fried. Not so great. Weird in fact. The rolls were good and satisfying. The ahi poke was my favorite. The ahi was fresh and had a ton of avocado wrapped around it. Very yummy! Nothing was earth shattering for me but it was decent and good for the money.

They charged my credit card twice for a meal I had here last week. Beware and check your credit card statement. That being said $ 1 salmon nigiri on Wednesdays is kind of awesome. Not great quality but decent enough for a nigiri craving.

Great food and great recommendation on red wine. Minus one star as when our entire sushi order was delivered it would have been helpful to have mini flags or mini labels on what was what. Service was terrific. Would go again.

I’m. So. Full. I’m here right now for Tuesday’s All-You-Can-Eat for $ 35. This place is sushi heaven. If you can commit to eating and eating sushi this place is a must. There was four of us and we ordered seven(Yes, that’s right… SEVEN) appetizers, two soups, two seaweed salads, three full rolls and probably over a dozen or so two piece rolls, and to top it all off a few hand rolls. This amount of food at other place this could’ve easily been over $ 300+ our bill was just over $ 150! Service is great– or server was very friendly and always made a point to make sure we had everything we needed. Atmosphere is fun– the restaurant is beautiful. They have a pillar in the middle of the building that is a fish tank filled with live jelly fish! Overall definitely 5 stars!!!

When our initial plan to dine at the sushi place just across the street failed(should have made a reservation, place was too crowded), we meandered over to Japango to give it a shot. I was gleefully impressed. The place feels swanky and modern, but has prices that won’t break the bank. Pretty average prices for sushi, I’d say. Service was awesome. Really attentive waitress who made suggestions and made sure our meal went swimmingly. Sad I don’t live in Boulder, because I had a sushi roll that quickly climbed to the top of my favorite rolls list: The Diablo Roll. If you know me, you know that I am contributing to the quick decline in the tuna population… because I could eat those delicious little suckers day and night. The Diablo Roll consists of spicy tuna and avocado inside, topped with seared tuna, & scallions with ponzu sauce. It’s basically tuna nirvana(for me, not the tuna). Thinking about not being able to have it on the regular makes me sad, so I’ll move on from it. The brussel sprouts on the appetizer menu are delicious… They’re basically brussel sprout chips, crispy and impossible to put down. I hope this place is still around the next time I visit Boulder… it was one of the few places I ate at that actually left a lasting(and positive) impression.
