I have never seen a mochi shop before and have only ordered it as a dessert at sushi restaurants, so I was so excited to try Smooch, but the service left something to be desired. There was no one in the shop when we walked in on a weekday early afternoon. T here was one girl working and she was annoyed we were there. My husband ordered the waffle with frozen yogurt and she did not want to make it, asking him if he was sure if that’s what he wanted. He was sure! «I would have to make the waffle,» she said. Yeah… a freshly made waffle is good thing to us — not a drawback! Just make it– isn’t that what you’re here for?! The waffle w/yogurt and the mochi were both tasty(I had the green tea and the mango), but it wasn’t fun or enjoyable to be here because she so clearly wanted to be alone! My husband never complains about anything, especially service, but even he couldn’t believe how rude this girl was.

Best mochi ice cream I have ever had. Their green tea and sakura ones are amazing. The ice cream is super fresh and perfectly sweet.

Mochi, or Japanese rice cake, is one of those dessert rarities that you can’t pass up once you find it. Colorado isn’t particularly known for ice cream shops that sell the ice cream mochi variety, so once I passed by this little shop in Boulder, my excitement was through the roof! There are 21 different flavors — certainly a very generous amount, given that I can only ever find three different flavors of boxed ice cream mochi whenever I am at an Asian supermarket. Each of the mochi here are fresh and handmade with all natural ingredients. The mochi does have to sit for a few minutes to melt, but are delightfully chewy and soft once you bite into one. I really enjoyed the Li Hing Mango and Sakura flavors, both of which were not overly sweet and had the perfect rice cake to ice cream ratio. Each bite was like a little flavor festivity in my mouth. There are other all natural dessert options here, such as frozen yogurt and popsicles, which looked appealing. The cashier was a sweet older gentleman that was helpful and knowledgeable about the items on the menu when I had questions during my visit. Definitely a great place to check out if you have a sweet craving while in Boulder; it’s become one of my favorite dessert places.

Usually not a huge dessert fan, but this place was soooo good. If you check-in, you get 10% off your order. My friends and I ordered 18 orders of mochi ice cream. You can definitely tell this is hand crafted and with a lot of care. You can really taste the fruit — I would bet they would use real fruit with it, if not, you definitely fooled me! After the 18 orders, I got another 8 orders of passion fruit only. I’m not sure if it’s artificial flavoring of passion fruit or not, but it really taste very close to it. Little sweet from the mochi and the acidity from the flavor of the passion fruit. Great blend! First place I will be when I’m back in Boulder!

My review of 3 stars is based solely on the Mochi. Love Hawaiian Mochi so much, and this is the place to find it! Five stars for having a big selection of flavors! Haven’t tried the froyo, but can’t imagine it’s anything too special. The staff on the other hand? ZERO stars. Every single time we go in here, there’s someone sitting behind the counter, on their phone, reading a book, watching a movie, doing anything except paying attention to the customers. I’ve been to this place several times — in fact, we make a point to stop in to get Mochi every time we’re in the area — and not once was the staff there friendly or attentive. Now, I don’t need them to jump up and hug me when I walk in the door, but for goodness sake would it kill you to at least acknowledge that we walked in the door and make some eye contact?!

Serious HEALTHCODE violations. Upon arrival at the store, we noticed the employee using cleaning solution without gloves. She then proceeded to make our order without washing her hands! The ice scoop had been sitting out on the dirty counter, and we unfortunately watched the employee scoop our shaved ice and place it back where it was. A dropped strawberry got put back in its topping container. After our order was completed, she noticed that the spoons were out and proceeded to restock them with her bare hands, touching the part where your mouth goes. It’s a miracle this place hasn’t been shut down already.

Great mochi, and good frozen yogurt, usually. The service is a little iffy, sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s not. It’s kind of a gamble. You never know what you’re going to get, that’s why this place is a 3, because of service alone.

Fruit tasted fresh. Soft serve average. Pricey and they do it for you. I didn’t like that bc I usually go light on ice cream heavy on toppings. I would go back to try mochi.

Amazing artisanal mochi ice cream: I just loved the passionfruit, but the chocolate coconut is an absolute must: creamy, delicious coconut ice cream wrapped in a chewy, chocolatey mochi wrapper. They were very cold and hard when served, but after warming up a minute were perfect, the wrappers soft and the ice cream deliciously melty. Must revisit to try to the soft serve.

I don’t usually write negative reviews but this place is the worst Frozen Yogurt place I’ve been too. Paid extra for unlimited toppings and the girl filled the cup to the top with Yogurt– no room for more than a few rasberries. When I asked if she could make room for toppings she tapped the cup on the counter to settle the yogurt. Classic! A shame for great downtown Boulder.

I loooooove me some smooch mochi ice cream. Whenever I’m back home in Boulder, I make it a point to make a smooch run. I can’t seem to find better mochi ice cream(or even any other mochi ice cream at all) in the Boulder area for the life of me. But I have tried others elsewhere and it’s definitely the best that’s passed my lips. Yes, smooch offers other frozen goods like frozen yogurt and popsicles, but those are kind of underwhelming. The mochi ice cream is where it’s at. Cute little pockets of ice cream in a thin, chewy shell… Divine. They come in an assortment of flavors including classic choices like mint chocolate but also Asian inspired flavors that you can’t really get at typical ice cream shops like azuki bean or lychee. As far as service and interior, the service is a little depressing as the cashiers seem far from delighted about their current job situation. And the interior is small with just two meager tables. So smooch is more of a to-go place for me, which is perfectly find as it is located on pearl street so I’d much rather savor my ice cream while leisurely walking outside.

I went here yesterday evening. The employee behind the counter sat there and stared at us without saying hello while we chose what mochi flavors we wanted… to then let us know that they were out of ALL of their mochi. I actually thought she was kidding. Anyway, while we stood there and decided which flavor of frozen yogurt we wanted, she proceeded to eat gummy bears out of the frozen yogurt toppings with her bare hands. Charming! Needless to say we took off without buying anything and won’t be returning any time soon.

We came in here on a hot day… And it was hot inside! The selection of frozen yogurt is slim. There are other things like pops and mochi. So that is fun.

Love this place! I always make a trip to smooch to get a mochi if I’m within 2 miles of it. Try the litchi, guava and tiramisu. They are divine!

The place was cute and the man that worked there was very nice. I got a pineapple popsicle. It was from a box but i wasnt really mad because it was still good. The mochi was really good too i loved the tiramisu. A great place to stop after dinner for something sweet!

I am now a fan of mochi balls thanks to this place. Absolutely delicious. As an overall froyo stop though it is a bit lacking. Only a couple of yogurt options and a somewhat small array of toppings. I might be spoiled by other places, but all of the froyo stops I have been to in the last 5 years or so have had multiple machines with serve yourself options, tons of toppings to choose from, and the price is based on the weight of your cup. This shop has a bit of an older mentality I remember from being a kid, but of what we tried it was tasty.

Tried this place out for dessert and it was very good. The quality is good, but nothing super spectacular. What was awesome though is they fill the cup perfectly, most places leave a huge hollow hole in the middle so you don’t actually get much. They filled every inch of the cup which was lovely :)

This place is such a cute shop in boulder! It can be a little pricey for the amount of mochi balls you get but they have such a large variety to choose from! The mochi was delicous and soft. Great flavors!

Good quality. The strawberries are fresh and the mochi topping was good. The frozen yogurt itself was really creamy rich, nice tangy flavor. My husband didn’t like the dark chocolate flavor but he also liked the vanilla. My only complaint for online ordering is that I selected several toppings online but I only got 2 out of 5 of the toppings I requested. If they are going to say«unlimited toppings» and charge you for that then they should put all the toppings that you requested. If they didn’t have the toppings available then they should have called and given $ 1 discount or something. It would have been the right thing to do! I might get this frozen yogurt again in person, but I was not happy with online ordering. Too pricey and they weren’t fair. But I will say it is MUCH better quality yogurt than yo yo’s frozen yogurt.

I found this place on Unilocal and it was a great find! Right in the heart of Pearl Street Mall, this is a great little place to satisfy any sweet tooth. Huge variety of ice cream mochis(buy more save more). I had the lychee and guava flavors — yummmmmmmmy!!! I could eat these everyday… why do they not have one here in the bay :( side note — I heard this is also a certified Green Bldg which is awesome!
