Came here for lunch. I ordered salmon and yellow tail sashimi, a Philadelphia roll and unagi. The sashimi portions were huge and very good. The unagi preparation was the best I’ve had outside of Japan. I’ll come back here for sure.

Mediocre sushi and very inattentive service. Will not return. Was there over 2 hours and saw very little of wait staff. Sushi was falling apart with rice not sticking together. Not a good value for service and food. Very disappointed with raving reviewers. Maybe it was an off night but won’t chance it again.

So let’s start with the good. The sushi is really great. I split several rolls with my boyfriend and all of them were fabulous, my favorite being the orgasm roll. The atmosphere was also really nice in there, it was pretty quiet and small which I liked. Now for the bad… the service was not good. I had to ask for a refill on water every time my water ran out and then had to wait another 10 minutes for it. Our server wasn’t even that bad, it just seemed like she was the only one serving the entire dining room. Also, the food took a really, really long time to come out. I get that they’re making the sushi fresh but I’ve been to other sushi places that do that and have never had to wait that long. Not sure if I’ll go back or not.

My spouse and I consider this to be hands-down the best sushi in Boulder, and we can’t stop ourselves from going nearly every weekend! Saito-san makes the meanest sushi in town: it’s fresh, delicate, and delicious. We love sitting at the sushi bar because all the chefs are so nice and knowledgeable … plus, if it’s dinnertime, you get a complementary tiny appetizer to start. I wish I could tell you that I am only into the authentic Japanese sushi, but we enjoy both Americanized sushi and(what I’m assuming are) traditional Japanese favorites. As far as Americanized sushi goes, I love the Rainbow Roll and the Spider Roll! Traditional favorites include any of the sashimi(though yellowtail and albacore top my list), the nigiri(Saito-san adds just the right amount of wasabi), and the egg custard. Honestly, though, I’ve never had anything I don’t like here, and the specials are always very good as well! If you like sushi, please give Tasuki a try; you’ll absolutely love it! It’s a true gem, even in the foodie town of Boulder!

Wow, Wow, WOW, I’m almost speechless with this Diamond of a Find GEM! We were suppose to go to AMU and I was peeved that my husband sneakily brought me here instead, so I threw a hissing fit by the front door saying I want to go to «AMU» when luck on my hubby’s side there was a lady walking out and said«This place is WAYYY Better than AMU, you should really eat here,» Obviously we did and hate to admit this place was and is in a whole world of heaven on it’s own! I’ve been trying to find a place similar to Ichiza’s in Vegas that made the Broiled/grilled rice balls and karaage and this place has it! But it’s BETTER!!! Never thought I’d say that about a Japanese eatery here in Colorado. Guess it does pay off having my 100% Japanese hubby who knows his culture and what I’d like and not. So EVERYTHING we had here was delicious and 4 of them VERY memorable, that I’ll be making this a staple in my life now. A+++++++++++ Yaki Onigiri — my mom calls it burnt rice. LOL So this is Literally no doubt about it the best one I’ve ever had and I’ve had my fair share of rice balls. They put soy sauce in the middle too and the flavor is delicious. Wonder what kind of shoyu they use because It didn’t taste like kikkoman(hate that brand) taste like Aloha shoyu instead, but I could be wrong. We did forget to ask them to put Umeboshi in the middle, but Dang honestly I’m afraid to mess with Perfection! I’ll be calling in Take out orders of a dozen for this stuff. We got 2 orders so 4 total and I ate 3 ½ of them. A++++ Orgasm Roll — Wholly freaken yeah!!! My Favorite EVER! It reminds me of my favorite roll at Yokohama sushi in Vegas, their Volcano roll. This place doese it soooo good, The baked salmon over the sushi is Unbelievably Orgasmic(pun intended) So getting this EVERYTIME! It this all myself! I was too stingy to share. :) no seriously, it will make you greedy & stingy because it taste sooo dang good!!! B Cucumber roll & spicy tuna roll — this was good, but honestly I can get this anywhere so it wasn’t memorable. A+ Cold Sake — I love the different look to this and the creaminess to it, which seem to my taste buds that the licorice was much more pronounced. We usually drink hot sake, but I felt like venturing out and going rogue on this. Glad I did! A+++Karaage — Oh man this made me go back in time. In highschool there was a truck with an old Japanes couple who made this and we rush to get to them first before their Fried juicy boneless chicken sold out. This Place is Better than Ichiza’s. I asked for some ponzu sauce, which put this over the Edge good. It’s sooo moist, not for those watching their figure because you know this bad boy ain’t healthy. lol It’s juicy, flavorful and with ponzu sauce, the citrus is that icing on the cake good. The service was really good and fast, the atmosphere is casual, but it’s not very quiet so if you want to be intimate or first date this wouldn’t be the place to go. But definitely 2nd dates and there after you should make it here. It’s a shame I’ve only just found this place, well hubby told me about it for a while, but it’s an absolute CRIME that I’ve dragged my feet coming here and almost made the mistake of going to AMU and not here!!! Well hubby was happy that our date night & the first time he picked or tricked me into going here that he succeeded. I’m VERY hard to please well, my palate is, so needless to say I could go on and on. JUSTGOHERE!!! And it’s cheap too!!! Well for good food affordable cheap that is!

After eating at Tasuki I am surprised to see how many people on Unilocal think the sushi here is good. We did not have anything that was good, except maybe the service which was just OK, they forgot one thing we ordered but that turned out to be a good thing. We didn’t finish any of the food except our soups. — Miso soup: same as what you can buy in a packet, not bad but nothing good or special. — Futomaki roll: tasted a day old, all the ingredients had a refrigerator-hardened consistency — Saba nigiri: I get this everywhere, every time i order sushi. It’s a good barometer for me even though it’s not a fancy fish. This was the worst I have had in 20 years of sushi eating. It tasted over-cured and old. — Hamachi and scallions roll: day old taste and consistency Same story for eel nigiri, toro roll, and spicy tuna roll. Nothing was bright or fresh. Also the rice in all the rolls was gelatinous, not sticky. Oh and I almost forgot the seaweed salad… a giant pile of spring greens without dressing, some chopped tomatoes and cucumbers, and a small scoop of seaweed. Dressing seemed to have gone into the bowl first. We sent it back, but still had to pay for it. The sushi is better at the grocery stores in town than it is here. Zan Mai is significantly better than Tasuki, and is the best in Boulder proper. Sushi Yoshi in Superior is even better. Even Hapa on pearl(which, I am not a fan of all their gimmicky rolls but the fish is definitely fresh) is better than the sushi here.

2 words… Japanese owned. Cant find this anymore in the sea of trendy sub par sushi joints across the usa. Note: its pretty well hidden look for the taste of philly red neon… Its upstairs of that. I drove around the block 3 times before i realized it was here Im Japanese. I appreciate the craft, the responsibility, the pride the culture takes in preparing food. Since after all its from the heart. They dont need sauces, flashy lights, or loud music to distract you from having great food, great ingredients and conversations.(Yes put your phones away). Im from the LA area home to matsuhisa… Same sense i get from this place. Proud of what they do and what they put out. If you are in a rush come back when you have time to enjoy a real meal… This is not a churn and burn chain. This place does not disappoint. Clean tastes, Fresh classic japanese food presentation and preparation. If you are looking for crazy rolls(not authentic japanese), house beats, flashing lights this NOT your place. Go find a sushi chain down the road… Where everything tastes like cheap spicy tuna. If you want good quality fresh fish, hot items cooked as they should be(let the ingredient shine) then this is the place to be. Very polite owners and staff, the saba was amazing! Classic sushi was fresh and no jazzed up frills… Letting the fish be the hero. A must to visit to go back in time and enjoy the moment. Well done guys! Arrigato

I was here in mid Sept for business. Very crowded during dinner. I was only one person so the wait wasnt that bad, but other groups needed reservations to sit. Its a small hole in the wall place that I had a hard time finding and was making circles all over the place. It seems to be run by a grandfather figure. Very Japanese. Luckily, fish can be flown into this landlocked state. The young sushi chef gave me some salted fish to eat while waiting for my order. I had a Chirashi and it was really good and fresh. Its presentation was well done. Looking at other people’s dishes, presentation was really nice for them too. I highly recommend this place if youre in the area.

We had a late dinner at Tasuki. Its not a very fancy place, being located upstairs above a Philly cheesesteak restaurant. The interior is a large room, sectioned off with some hangings. We didn’t have to wait around 8:30 on a Thursday night. My wife ordered a sushi plate, which included nigiri and a roll. The platter includes shrimp nigiri, which always annoys me because I don’t consider shrimp to be sushi. It seems like a cheap way to fill out the plate. Besides that, the sushi was generally good. I ordered ala carte because of the aforementioned desire to not be served shrimp. I ordered unagi, sake and toro. The unagi tasted good but did not have quite the charred crispness to it that I prefer. The other fish was good but I felt the portions were a bit small. I also ordered a seaweed salad. When it first came out, I was surprised at the huge serving. As it turned out, there was a pretty small amount of seaweed sitting on top of a large bed of lettuce. This was pretty disappointing. I’ve never had a seaweed salad that included lettuce. The flavor was good but a skimpy portion of seaweed. The service was very good. The food came out quickly and multiple servers made sure our drinks stayed full and we got extra ginger and wasabi when requested. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner at Tasuki.

I’ve gone here three or four times four dinner and it’s always awesome! Tastes and feels very authentic Japanese. The staff greets and thanks you in Japanese. The dining room was full of Japanese people, which is always a good sign with ethnic food. The interior is super basic but still feels intimate. Our food took a little longer than normal so a waitress came and apologized and gave us free edamame. The menu is a little weird, divided into grilled, simmered, deep fried, and other, then the sushi menu is a piece of paper where you check the boxes you want, you know in the traditional ancient Japanese style. We got a whole grilled squid, which was tender and perfectly seared. Got the simmered pork belly, comes in a crazy savory broth with spinach and hot mustard, holy shit it was good. I don’t recommend the calamari, actually everything I’ve had there fried is pretty plain, the tempura batter just has no flavor. Orgasm roll is appropriately named because it made me make an OH face. Salmon nigiri also pretty good. Eggplant and minced chicken is delicious and comes in a broth but strangely in the deep fried category? The California rolls have real crab meat in it, none of that imitation shit. Oh and it’s above an abortion clinic so you know it’s super convenient:/

So once upon a time, I was on a QUEST for takoyaki(round ball-shaped snack with batter filled with octopus bits and topped with sauce and bonito flakes) in Colorado and after exhausting Google, I ended up finding Tasuki and omg I am so glad I did. The place is a hidden gem — so hidden you have probably never seen it. The sushi is delicious — I usually get their chirashi which has such a delicious variety. Of course I always get their takoyaki because it’s super good and it’s the only takoyaki I have had in Colorado. Piping hot, so you need to wait, but it’s so worth it. The salmon sashimi portion is pretty good for the price — the slices are very thick. Also really good: agedashi tofu, gyoza, and hamachi carpaccio. The only thing I tried here that I didn’t like(and actually found to be a little repulsive) was the natto(fermented soybean), but I think that’s just an acquired taste I have yet to acquire. Is it the best sushi I have ever had in my entire life? No, but it is certainly the best sushi I have ever had in Colorado. Definitely give this place a try! The food sometimes takes a little long(I mean everything is handmade), but the quality more than makes up for it and the service is always excellent.

Want to have authentic Japanese food at a Japanese restaurant operated/managed by Japanese people in Boulder? No problem! There is a restaurant called Tasuki, very unassuming but surprisingly awesome! They seems to make everything homemade, therefore it might take a bit longer for food to come out, but when it does, you get a quality food. So, you need to choose between fast but low quality food, or slow but high quality food. Me, I always take the quality! Well, most of the time. Great spot to get some fresh, good sushi, and other traditional Japanese dishes! Read my full review of this restaurant and food on my food blog, foodlovergirl.

Yet another amazing dinner at Tasuki! For people complaining about this place… I truly cannot see how one could have a negative experience here. Every single item is completely homemade and they don’t cut corners– Dumplings are handmade and not frozen, for example(unlike pricey competitors like Sushi Tora and Sushi Zanmai). Maybe this takes slightly longer, but you get what you pay for… If you go somewhere like Hapa, you’ll be in and out in 20 minutes, and you’re paying top dollar for low quality sushi in an industrialized sushi restaurant where everything is prepared days before you consume it. Tasuki has significantly better quality fish than any sushi place in Boulder(And yes, I’ve tried them all.) It’s not oily at all, indicating how fresh it is, and there is a far more authentic variety of dishes to choose from. For those complaining about how the food takes a long time, I for one have never experienced this, and if I did, I would still prefer it to the other places in Boulder. There is one head sushi chef who is authentic and is a very friendly, sweet older man and he always goes out of his way to ask if my food was good. He clearly puts his heart into every dish and cares about his customers! Prices are very good and I’m happy to support a local business owned by an authentic sushi chef who truly cares about his customers, rather than a chain that hires college students that serve you sushi in 20 minutes topped off with an eyeroll… I will continue to come here and enjoy every meal!

The staff seemed terrified to serve us. That should have been our first red flag. I’m not saying the service was bad. It was just slow! Like reeeeaalllly slow. We just ordered a few rolls and it took about 40minutes. The staff were all SOFRIENDLY, so I didn’t mind at first. Once our rolls came to the table we noticed that we only got 2 out of 3 rolls. It wasn’t the worst thing in the world and I wasn’t going to dare ask for the other roll. I just didn’t have 2 hours to spend on dinner. We got the orgasm roll and the sushi platter. The platter was NOT worth the $ 21.95. The orgasm roll was pretty good, but the wait and not getting our other roll kind of made for a lack luster experience.

Good food, horrible service and long wait time to receive your food. Let me start by saying the folks here are very nice. They’re just disorganized and incompetent. They forgot to take our order. And once they did it was the longest wait time for lunch, ever. And they really weren’t busy. They also spaced out on soy sauce dishes basic utensils. On the food side the sushi is high quality and they have good side dishes such as hijiki and kinpira gobo.

If you want sushi that’s fresh, authentic, and delivered with care, then Tasuki is calling your raw-fish-lovin’ name. As somebody who’s grown up on the East Coast, traveled to the West Coast and Japan often, and could eat sushi nearly every day, the sashimi and carpaccio here is pure heaven. Complex in its simplicity, melt-in-your-mouth, and full of flavor. The décor isn’t super chic and location is in the strip mall across from McGuckin’s(meaning parking can be a hassle if the sport bar behind it is getting filled up), but you’re coming here for the food and the lovely people preparing and serving it to you. The owner/head sushi chef always greets my girlfriend and I like we’re old friends while all the servers have always been nothing been nice to us. Even the non-sushi lovers can find something to fancy here. I brought my best friend from out of town here and he indulged in the soba noodles and couldn’t stop raving about them. Protip: always try to get a seat at the sushi bar, if possible. You’ll be in for a visual treat as both sushi chefs take their craft seriously. Also, the younger one, Rainer, can act as a sushi-o-logist of sorts who will figure out what you like and make amazing suggestions based off that.

Rare to see actual japanese wait staff and staff in the US but this little gem has a super friendly server and absolutely deliciously authentic Japanese food. We had the grilled whole squid, salmon collar, eel maki roll with cucumbers and agedashi tofu and everything was fantastic.

5 stars all the way. Excellent food and excellent service. We ordered Chirashi bowl and deep fried tofu, deep fried soft, and whole squid(grilled) — everything was fresh and delish ! Will come back again and again for sure. They even gave us a miso soup on the house for waiting.
