There are several antique shops all next door to each other in Old Bowie and I would always drive by them and pay them little attention. Well, I recently had a maternity shoot and decided that I wanted to find an antique carriage to use as a prop instead of the usual baby shoes that you hold in your hand or block letters that spell out the baby’s name. I’m a very spontaneous(and somewhat anxious) person, so when I decided that I wanted a carriage, it was a Tuesday. I noticed that all of the shops are only open from Thursday — Sunday, but I decided to call all of them anyway. Out of all the shops that I called, Mike was the only one who answered because his cell phone number is listed. I told him what I was looking for and he told me that since he lived so close to the shop, he would take a look at his inventory and give me a call by the next day. He stayed true to his word and called me on Wednesday to let me know he had a gorgeous light green vintage carriage from the 1920’s in his inventory. He said I could pick it up whenever I wanted, but to just call him when I was about 20 minutes away. We agreed to meet that evening, even though the shop wasn’t open. I loved the carriage and we negotiated a price and I took it home that day. The carriage was too large to fit in my car, so he tied down my trunk with his own blankets and ropes and just told me to bring them back whenever I got the chance. Now THAT is excellent customer service! I’m not sure when I will need to purchase another antique item, but Mike will be the first one I call for my needs! And his store is packed with lots of items so I’m sure anyone can find something in there!

This store is jam packed with furniture and knick knacks and doodads. It has a HUGE collection of glass and china from the twentieth century and has a great selection of mantel clocks among other things. I picked up two«green depression» refrigerator glass square containers at a fair price and would have stocked up on Liberty Blue china if I needed more. The owner is very friendly and helpful and will look out for things for you if you are interested. I was there on a sunny Sunday afternoon and will likely return.
