Bam! Holy crap. Nice tall guy with long hair and a ball cap helped me through the ordering as I had no idea. I’m also a picky eater some times and critical. Beef, spicy coconut, coconut sweet potatoes and farofa… amazing. Wish I got a large. One of my favorite meals in Bozeman.

Bunches of things in a bowl, instead of tortilla. Taste is ok, but largely a strange amalgam of flavors that don’t really seem to jive. Ummm, I’ll have a little of this, little of that — shit I don’t know. You come up with your own combination — even though you are not qualified to do so. Ambience is weak and wanting. One more star if you just wrap it in a tortilla. Come on, you know you want to. 3 on black is what I say.

3 stars means«A-OK» and that’s how I feel. the volume of food in a large bowl is huge, and it’s inexpensive. It’s nothing special, but it’ll fill you up and it tastes pretty good.

I love this Brazilian Bowl spot. They call it «fast food» but in more of the traditional sense — as in FAST! They have easy, delicious options, great variety… and don’t even get me started on the Pao de Quiejo. HOLY! The prices are very reasonable. The only complaint I have is that it is right downtown making it virtually impossible to get to during lunch rush on an hour lunch unless you work downtown. Other than that, it’s a good spot for a quick and healthy lunch.

Disappointed the medium bowl option was discontinued. Who thought limiting customer options was such a great idea? The small bowl is too small, more like an appetizer. The large bowl is too much food. I mainly come here because it’s reasonably priced in a town saturated with overpriced or unaffordable eating establishments. I really dislike the rice. It’s pretty awful. The meat, sauces and add-ons are flavorful so it almost makes up for the mass produced tasting rice. Like school cafeteria rice is the best way to describe it. Without the affordable, and perfect amount of food, option of the medium bowl, I’m less inclined to return now.

Great place for a quick lunch! Fast, tasty, and inexpensive… But maybe hold of on the beets…

Disappointing. The feijoada was dry and spicey like Mexican chili. I lived in the São Paulo area for several years and sampled a lot of feijoada and it was always more stew like with a succulent meaty flavor. Maybe it was the cook’s day off.

This is a really great option for some unique and quick food. It’s a nice break from your average«fast-er» food. If you need something other then a burger, tacos, pizza, sandwiches, etc. then Five on Black is a great choice. The flavors are unique, the options are bountiful and the prices are really reasonable for the amount of food you get. It’s cool to see a Brazilian hot spot in town and also, something local that was started in Missoula. Good stuff! Keep it up guys and thanks for giving us something different to enjoy.

This place intrigued me as I walked down Main Street from the very crowded Montana Ale House. If you like Chipotle, you will certainly enjoy this establishment as a fast casual eatery. I ended up getting the rice, chicken, and sweet potato bowl with the mango curry, wow! It packed tons of great flavor that was just the perfect serving size as well. I would certainly go back if I was in town!

I like the outside seating and also the ease of ordering. You go up to the counter and basically they walk you through building your food bowl. I went with a medium bowl with a mix of greens and brown rice as the base. They layered that with the Feijoada, which is a traditional Brazilian stew that has black beans and different types of meats. Then I chose the collard greens as the side, not sauce since the Feijoada already provided the sauce and then topped it with the salsa and chimichurri. Really great mix of flavors and seemed like a pretty healthy choice

Nothing special here, it’s all about value. You get a decent bowl for the right amount of money. Hardly«Brazilian» but novel enough around this part of the country to make it worth the occasional visit.

This place is plain fun. The music is lively and so is the food. This place has paleo and lower-carb options which is what Bozeman needs. The pattern for the bowls seems to be that a small means one scoop of meat, medium means two and large means three. The beef is mild and very tender. The feijoada is a mixed meat stew(bacon, beef, chicken) and per my friend has very good flavor. Get the spicy coconut sauce if you love strong delicious coconut flavor. The pao de queijo are puffy and crispy but sadly lack the solid cheesy center I prefer, but if you prefer puffy bread you might like it. Two meals and a drink came out to $ 15 — bordering on fast food prices but infinitely tastier, not to mention healthier. They use cardboard bowls which is an extra nice, green touch. We will definitely be coming back.

Good food, great price, fine service, what’s not to like? Spicy coconut sauce is awesome and by no means really spicy.

Delicious. Healthy. Inexpensive. Easily accessed. Friendly, fast, good service. Clean. What’s not to love??? Seriously. A wonderful addition to downtown Bozeman that I am thrilled to call one of my new favorite. Just for information sake, if you don’t tend to like the latin style of cuisine you might not care for five on black. It’s basic, make your bowl: choose a rice(white, brown, or greens) choose a meat(chicken, beef, fish, pork, veggies), choose sides, sauce, add ons. Get a cute yummy little bread ball & a drink, enjoy! Average 8 $/person. For those of us who have to watch the fat & calories it doesn’t get much better than a great tasting bowl rice with meat & greens seasoned deliciously! I would give more stars if I could

Seriously fresh ingredients! Fast and friendly service. The girl helping us was polite and answered all of our questions since we had never been in before. Thank you for that! My sister and I both ordered a small bowl. She went for tilapia, rice, black beans, and coconut sauce. The fish was a little dry, but overall she liked it. I got chicken, sweet potatoes, mango BBQ sauce, over greens. With the lettuce base, I think I needed to get a medium, it wasn’t quite enough for a regular sized meal. I also don’t think I realized how sweet everything was going to be, so my combination of sauce and sweet potatoes was just overly sweet and lacked dimension. So choose wiser than I and get some spicy mixed in there! That’s what I was missing. On another note, everything was so uniformly cut in a half inch dice it was just kind of monotonous texture wise. Larger pieces of protein would have broken that up. A little more meat to «side» ratio would have been nice. The cheese buns were very good… Although I wish our server had given us the inside scoop before we left because we both wanted like three more each!!! Overall we had a light, healthy lunch for under ten bucks each! Can’t do much better than that! We’ll be back.

I can’t begging to tell how excited I was with this concept coming to town! I grew up in Brazil and LOVE Brazilian food. I would have given five stars if it wasn’t for the Feijoada. The food is fresh and very flavorful, but the feijoada was a HUGE let down. Feijoada is the national dish of Brazil, and it consists of a stew of several different pork cuts and sausages with black beans, onions and garlic. The version served at Five on Black is basically a beef stew with tomato sauce, much closer to a dish actually called Picadinho. Don’t get me wrong, it was tasty and I devoured it, but it most definitely was not anywhere close to a real feijoada… I will be back, but will order something else instead.
