Good, dry cider is usually not only hard to find, but also fairly expensive. Well, at least in the Pacific Northwest, which is where I live. Lockhorn Cider House is that elusive beast that produces affordable, delicious, dry ciders. We wandered in here after a couple of beers at nearby Montana Ale Works, curious to sample the local cider. Since we came in an hour before closing, there were only a few other groups enjoying their drinks. Since there was reliable, free wi-fi, we even saw some students getting their work done over a glass of cider. How I wish I had a place like this near me when I was in college! My boyfriend and I each opted to get a cider flight, and thus managed to sample most of Lockhorn’s offerings. Both flights and pints cost $ 6 apiece, which I consider very reasonable in the cider world. I thought the raspberry and hops ciders were the two standout offerings, with the ginger and dry apple ciders following closely behind. I was most disappointed by the bourbon reserve cider – it sounded so promising, but ended up tasting too funky to be enjoyable for me. Lockhorn also offers a completely gluten-free food menu that we didn’t order anything from. It looked promising enough that I would not be opposed to sampling their fare on a future visit. We stayed in the cozy inside area this time(it was cold!), but the outdoor patio with a fire pit also looked very inviting. Ah well, they’ll both have to wait until I find myself in Bozeman again!

A good selection of hard ciders, they are of the dry and less sweet variety. Also available are cheese trays and nuts along with a few other snack items to eat while you drink.

Great atmosphere, good service, and the cider is super tasty. I love the outdoor seating which includes a lovely fire in the evening. This is a fun place to take people people from out of town since it’s a little different than your average bar or brew pub.

Love this concept. Try the sampler… actually come with someone else and share a sampler each so you can try everything. Super friendly staff and a great patio. Will definitely return if we’re every back in Bozeman.

Great place! The location isn’t ideal due to lack of parking, but it is fairly quiet as it is one block behind Main Street. The building environment is spectacular. It has that modern western vibe. Outdoor patio with a fireplace is where I like to hang out. The music is great. The ciders are excellent. It is dry cider, and I love that. I’m not really into much sweet cider. Some people prefer sweeter cider, so know who you are and what you like. If you’re not sure what you are getting into for the first time, I recommend the sampler flight, which is awesome. I love the habanero flavor, it has a nice gentle kick to the flavor. The black current is pretty delicious. There is food here, but I have yet to try any of it. Overall, this is a great place to hang out and chat in the evening. Especially during the summer.

The best cider house in Montana. A great addition to the Bozeman downtown. The sampler is a good way to go if you haven’t settled on your favorite cider drink. Seating arrangement makes for easy conversation with other patrons. Definitely worth trying while in the Bozeman areaz!

I love this place. Great dry ciders that don’t taste like pure sugar. Sit in the back by the fire and enjoy some cider with your friends. No parking lot so find a spot on a street.

Great atmosphere, great spot for a drink date. Love the outside fireplace and the décor. The spicy cider was pretty weird, but overall, YUM!

Two stars because I LOVED the atmosphere. The outdoor fireplace and the bench seats with a live bluegrassy band playing was wonderful. I even said out loud to my sister, «I want to hang out here, but I don’t want to drink this.» It’s too bad. The cafeteria style sitting area, and stand in line for drinks & pay at the counter vibe didn’t really bother me, casual is fine with me, but when I got my drink I was less than impressed. The ciders I tried were not flavorful by any means, they merely had a hint of apple. I tried the original and the hops. I was wanting for something a little more full bodied rather than slightly tasteless, watered-down seeming cider. Along with the blandness it just seemed to leave a terrible after taste and bitterness in the mouth. Sad to say, but what I thought was going to be a great new place to hit downtown for music and drinks is just a flop. Pump up the quality of the ciders and I’d consider coming back.

So happy to find a cider house in Montana! We each tried the sampler/flight, and enjoyed all four of the selections. Each was quite dry, but very drinkable. My favorite was the variety with hops, which was surprising as I tend not to like beers that are very hoppy. Definitely try the flight, you might be surprised as well! Some of the upcoming seasonal rotations sounded really good to me(but I’ve forgotten what they were already). The décor is very northwest modern, with saws and other tools inlaid into the concrete floor. The wooden benches are a bit hard for me, but luckily I travel with a cushion at all times! We didn’t try any of the food on this visit, but I’m sure we’ll be back next time we’re in Bozeman. The outdoor seating area was calling to me, but it was a bit drizzly. Next time!

Cider flight, fantastic. Cooler was on the fritz, so need to stop back by some time to try once again.

Nice place! We stopped in to check it out and enjoyed the flight of ciders. There’s an outdoor area with a fireplace and several tables, on the inside there’s ample seating for groups big or small. Seems like their cool with bringing in outside food — a group was enjoying a pizza while we were there. The cider was good — not great — in the end I enjoyed a mix of the ciders on tap that was pretty tasty. Staff is super friendly too. It’s worth checking out!

The atmosphere of this place is great — it’s a neat location with a good amount of seating, and a really comfortable vibe. I love the décor and local art displayed. All the varieties offered were dry, which is fine by me(I’d take it dry, sweet, and anywhere in between as long as it tastes good). However, this is some of the blandest cider I’ve ever tasted… I don’t see many reviews raving about the cider, but instead about the cider house it’self(which is a great spot). Not sure why there are 2 other reviewers who gave 4 stars despite mentioning that the cider was lacking. We visited when there was still snow on the ground and they’d just opened, and all these reviews seem to be more recent. I am a craft beer and local winery lover and advocate(at least I was in Oregon), but the cider we tasted here seriously fell flat. We got full pints of the traditional and currant, and tasters of the ginger and hops. I honestly couldn’t really distinguish between the varieties except for the hops, which stood out subtly from the others. I do love cider, so I’m willing to try it again at a later date, maybe after they’ve worked out some kinks and gotten some more feedback.

This place is an excellent addition to Bozeman. I love the fact that the cider is not overly sweet like the hard cider that you get from the store. I have tried traditional British cider while overseas many times and grew an appreciation for a drier cider. Also, the interior is awesome! Again, I think Lockhorn is a perfect fit for bozeman.

I recommend getting the flight so you can see what you like before committing. Very simple, yet tasty. Great patio with fireplace and a nice, chill atmosphere.

We stopped by Lockhorn today to check out the best of what Bozeman has to offer. We got the flight: Traditional, Currant, Ginger and Hops ciders for $ 2 a pop. Their ciders were pretty good, but lacked the crisp aftertaste that I usually look for in a cider. We also got some Tamari Almonds to munch on, which make a nice gluten-free snack for the gluten adverse. Overall though, with the chic and comfortable interior with chilled imbibement in hand on a sunny day, I couldn’t envision a more perfect way to pass the afternoon.

We were anxiously waiting for this place to open, glad to have them in Bozeman! I prefer a sweeter cider, so I was a little disappointed, but my husband loves it and it’s a great place to go with friends. The atmosphere is fun and unique. Lots of local artwork displayed on the walls and a fire pit outside to enjoy weather permitting. The staff are friendly and do a great job. I am looking forward to trying their new cider that is supposed to be a bit sweeter, which is more what I’m used to and prefer! Be sure to check out Lockhorn Cider House, it’s not like any other place I’ve been to in Bozeman!

I really enjoy this place, it’s quaint and out of the way but I love that. The ciders are great and dry unlike any others I’ve had.

We have been dying to check this place out for the longest time. We have stopped by several times in the past couple of weeks to find out that they were not open yet. However, we finally were able to get in this past Friday after work. The place itself looks great. The interior is nice, pleasant colors and décor. However, I think they can make better use of the space in terms of seating. 5PM on a Friday night, the place started to fill up and there was standing room only. The outside has a small seating area with an outdoor fireplace. The location isn’t the greatest. There really is not any parking except for on the street and depending on what time you arrive, you may not be able to find any parking nearby. As for the ciders, I would recommend the sampler first. They were all fairly dry and there were 4 flavors on tap at the time. Traditional, Hops, Ginger and Black Currant. Our group seemed to enjoy the Black Currant the most as it seemed the most flavorful.
