The Rack

Well… tonight was the first night we decided to try this place out. My husband ordered from the GrubHub menu to be delievered to our house. Order went in fine, 10 minutes later we get a phone call saying that it will take 90 minutes for the food to be delivered (order was put in around 6:30pm) fine, we can wait. An hour and about 15 minutes go by and we get another call saying they dont have the specific wrap we ordered. Apparently, the GrubHub menu is different from their website menu… fine, however, they could have told us that the first time they called. 2 hours later we recieve our food. Wrap was decent, even though it was different from what we wanted, fries we mush, and we ordered a sushi roll which was ok. They obvioisly ran out of avacado and put dmelt roe on the rest to try to cover it up. It also fell apart. Not sure how the food is in store, but orderinh from Grub Hub was not very good. Not sure if we will try them again, at least never ordering from GrubHub.

Love this place! They offer great food and even have low carb or extra protein sushi. They use other filler than rice and it’s awesome!
The cucumber salad is awesome as well and they have a good beer selection

So the last few times we have been here here is the experience:
Specials not accounted for on the check. Last week we caught it before credit card ran, this we didn’t so we asked for the adjustment And only received another credit card authorization for the adjusted amount that should have been billed to begin with. Asked for proof of reversal and they had nothing. This place has gone so downhill, it is clearly a scam on the specials to see if you will notice. This is the last trip here as I am sure this place will be out of business soon on its own. Shame on them for the scam.

The Sushi is amazing here, when you come go up to the bar & ask Lilly to help you she was great.

Every time I come to this establishment, the service is absolutely horrible. The servers all have attitudes and take forever to bring out drinks and or food. The food isnt even good. I got a tempura shrimp roll and it was almost as if they made a bunch of them earlier in the day and refridgerated it. I didn’t even finish eating it. Empty plates were left in front of us and its not even busy. We had to ask for refills. The only reason I’m even giving it one star is because the option for no stars is unavailable. Favoritism is definitely an issue at the restaurant. Just because your friends are here doesn’t mean all your service should go to them. Sorry, but I’m not wasting my tip on you and will no longer be spending money at this establishment. I will be letting people I know as well. Good uck.

This location is a bit more casual than the original. This is one of the few restaurant/​bar that’s meant for adults only in the Brandon area. It has a very different vibe from the South Tampa location though. Not pretentious at all.
This one is located in what appears to be an old bank/​office building. Though awkward in appearance outside, it works out on the interior.
This building comes in multiple parts. When you first walk in, there is a full bar with TVs playing sports games and seating surrounding the bar. There’s also general dining in this room. There’s a separate room for billiard and games. Another room in the back is a large dining area which also has the kitchen and sushi bar.
Plenty of seating is also available outdoors. In addition, there’s an area reserved for a live music band which comes out on specific nights. The food here is amazing. I can’t really complain that much. The drinks are great too. I usually come here for sushi though I have eaten from other parts of their menu.
Recommend this to anyone looking for a nice casual outing for adults in the Brandon area.

If I wasn’t the great drink specials my review would have been a 1 star review. My first and last visit for sure. Common customer service just doesn’t exist here, one of the bar tenders asked me if I was mad now after one the servers not so politely ask me to move out of her way. This moment took a lot of me to keep my cool. I wanted to at that very moment I stay around to hang out with my coworkers. The food is a little less than average but the price are good. Service on the other hand has a lot of room for improvement. Because of my experience there I really didn’t care to explore the place and learn more. In conclusion I will not be returning back here.

Probably my least favourite bar in the Brandon/​Tampa area now, but it was great when it first opened
The guys that come in are douchey, you can hear dogs or some sort of movement from the back, the bar constantly smells, the music is always obnoxiously loud.
Not a place to go to if you’re over 22 I guess.

Food is mediocre… but the horrible odor wafting from behind the bar makes it hard to down the food. Smells like up chuck but can only imagine the drains or wells need sanitizing… won’t try this place again

Horrible service. We waited 40 minutes to get 2 rolls and when we finally got our rolls one was completely wrong. We then asked for the right roll Togo and another server came over and said our server didn’t want to tell her manager but she would. When we finally got the right roll we asked for the check which we were charged twice for the wrong roll and when we told our server she gave us attitude and said she would tell the manager. The manager then thought her presence was needed and she told us that she heard we ordered wrong. She did no damage control (not that we were looking for anything free) but alright.

Best place to watch football in Brandon! Great food and excellent service!!!
The wings are still good but I just wouldn’t call them jumbo which is actually a great thing. It just means that the chickens are not jacked up on steroids. The service is really good and the employees are super nice!
Brandi and Crystal are the best bartenders!

I’ve been here lots of times and am finally writing a review. The sushi here is really the best thing about the food. The other food I’ve tried is just ok. They do have daily specials for sushi and drinks that make prices more reasonable.
They have lots of televisions for sports watching, however they’re not configured in the best way to watch multiple games. There are three pool tables but I’ve never played so I can’t say how long the wait time is. It is nonsmoking so that’s a plus.

Really love coming to the rack. They have awesome specials but I’m a little disappointed with a few things. 1.) where are all the pool tables !!! There used to be way more and now they only have 3? It’s suppose to pool hall. 2.) asked for ID so many times. I completely understand keeping out underage but even when I wasn’t drinking I got asked for my ID. 4 times in one hour. That’s a bit ridiculous. Maybe they need to come up with some armband at the door or something. Other then those 2 things I absolutely love this place. The wait staff is always awesomeness and attentive the drinks are good and their food is pretty great as well. Defiantly a great place to hang out with friends

The wait staff is very friendly and efficient. Drinks and food came out quickly. The food on the other hand was mediocre at best. The Kanisu salad was supposed to have cucumber instead they’d been sitting in vinegar so long they were pickled. Definitely not what it used to be. For a Saturday night at 8pm expected a much larger crowd. Only 2 other tables were taken when I arrived. I had the volcano, Mumbo jumbo, and the bagel with fresh salmon. The volcano used to be huge, not the case anymore. Don’t think I’ll be back for the sushi. Very disappointed.

This place, without the staff, gets 2 stars from me.
Walked in on Saturday night at 7:50, noticed they had 3 pool tables, 1 of which was covered with an old, net-​less ping pong surface. It’s called «The Rack», and they have 3 tables? Strike 1!
We were told a party was coming in at 8, most likely, and they would take all the tables. We asked if we could play until they arrived and we’d leave. Never happened, the party didn’t show.
The tables have been through a lot. Drink (hopefully) stains were scattered across the table. And some of the balls were missing chunks. Yep.
The girls were nice though, and kept the beers coming, so an extra star for them.
Didn’t *dare* try the sushi…

When we went to the Rack in Brandon FL it was a bad experience when staff ignored obvious problems with patrons who brought in their barking dog that was bothering a lot of people.
The staff just said it was a cute little dog and did not ask the dog owners to leave. Hearing a barking dog during dinner is not a good dining experience. The managers should resolve situations that are disturbing people’s dining experience.

Sushi is really good! And they stay open late as well. They also have a good selection of alcoholic beverages!

I really like the rack. We haven’t been there in a long time, but not because it’s not good. It’s a great place for nightlife. Good drink prices and great ambiance. I’ve had a lot of their sushi but it’s overly expensive for what it is. There is a bit of an older crowd but that’s Brandon. Overall I really enjoy this location. It’s a fun place to have a night out. Also, it’s fine for kids up until maybe 8pm, after that it’s more of a bar atmosphere and I really wouldn’t be comfortable taking my kids there. Also there is a large patio outside which is nice especially in Brandon.

Even when the Rack in Hyde Park was open, I have always preferred this location. This is due to several reasons: there are less douchetards, this location is very spacious, and there is plenty of parking! Since my friend lives in Brandon, it was also my turn to drive to his side of town, so this was an easy place to meet.
They don’t have the best sushi in town, but they definitely have great drink specials. When I walked in, my friend was already partaking in a $ 5 liter of Miller Lite that seemed taller than I was!
I ordered the Sashimi Appetizer which consisted of nine total pieces of Tuna, Yellowtail, and Salmon. I also added the Scallop Sashimi. The fish wasn’t the «freshest» I had ever tasted, but it was fine for me to munch on.
My date ordered the Hot Rock, which consisted of Fried scallop, tempura onion, cream cheese and cucumber roll topped with avocado, spicy mayo and eel sauce. I was able to steal a piece to taste before my hand was slapped away, and it was very good. But seriously, is there anything that isn’t good that Is topped with Japanese spicy mayo?
I started with a Blue Moon and then moved to a Redd’s Strawberry Ale. It was delicious, but at the end it began to taste a little too sweet for me.
Sara was our bartender, and was friendly and efficient.
The Rack also has a TouchTunes jukebox! There was country music playing (barf) so I was able to «hijack» the jukebox with the app and we had ourselves a little revival of 80s hair bands!
As I immerse myself more into the Unilocal cult, I am anxious to find some different sushi places here in Brandon to try out. Until then, the Rack isn’t too too bad.

Ok place. Not really impressed except for the outdoor area. Very large outdoor area with a separate bar. Service was quick and drinks were decent. Inside was a little dingy but not divey. People watching wasn’t that great since it wasn’t very crowded. On a Saturday night. So I’m assuming this isn’t one of the more popular bars in Brandon.
Oh, plus the only food this place has is sushi. This isn’t New York, people. If this place wants to survive, I highly recommend ditching the strictly sushi menu and expand it to normal bar food. The only difference between two stars and three stars is the nice outdoor deck. But as it stands, I’m not making any effort to return.
