I requested a Marley twist — med size, shoulder length install on Nov 15th. The good thing about this salon is that it’s open on Sundays and takes appointments pretty quickly — in a city where most black salons demand bookings weeks out and are rarely accommodating, this was a pretty good fit. Unfortunately, that’s about where the good part of the experience ends. I had a decent wash & blow out prior to installation — which is weird to me to put tension on hair that has *just* been heat-treated. I brought 7 packs of Marley hair as every install video /article I’ve seen has had ppl using 5 – 9 packs at MOST. We ended up using 10 packs with not enough to do a decent amount on the top of my head, making styling more or less limited to a few styles. That wouldn’t have been such a problem, except I was forced to buy the salons’ packs at $ 10 a piece. That’s 50% more than the $ 4.99 you can find anywhere in the city. The other issue I had with this service is the technique — I had to ask the stylist three times to PLEASE not pull so tight and STILL the twists are too tight. We had to go back over a few because of the unrealistic amount of tension applied to them. I also think the way the twists were installed was pretty shoddy — there are varying sizes all over my head, some of them do not pull down straight because they were wound hastily, AND they used an odd knotting style. I have had to remove some of the bulk at the back and sides of my head just to relieve the amount of pain on my scalp, only to find that they were basically knotted onto my head. At one point the stylist wanted to use rubber bands to secure the twist at the root — WHAT??? So much for a protective style! Please shop around before you get extension twist done at this place. Between the service($ 180) and the money I paid for extra packs($ 20 — that still somehow couldn’t get me an even distro of twists??) I spent $ 200 for a style I probably won’t have in for more than 3 weeks. I found out from a friend that the most people charge for this style is $ 130, and I was right — no one should need packs in the double digits. Seems like an underhanded practice. They wanted $ 65 to ‘complete’ the service … no one should be spending $ 265 for Marley twists. It seems to me a lot of hair salons are more focused on getting as much as they can as soon as they can rather than focusing on good practices that keep clients coming back. Well, a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. I won’t be back.

This place is wonderful! Homey and laid back, the owner is talented and fun. She does my 8 year old daughters hair and I can’t believe how she is able to get her to sit for so long!

Nicole is awesome. She always makes it so fun to get my haircut. She is also really good at cutting hair. I always leave thrilled. I am pretty particular about my hair and she crushes it. I strongly recommend Outluks because it is a killer experience for a good price.

Aside from the great price(25 $ for wash and blow dry!!), my hair was blow dried so nicely! The staff knew what style would look good with my face. They are also very flexible and saw me without making an appointment. Outluks wash and blow dry will be a regular happening for me!
