Always great!!! My only complaint is sometimes they put my tuna sashimi in the same container with a deep fried roll in my carry out which actually starts cooking the tuna. But eat in has always been a treat. And the young front desk crew are tripping over each other to help you… Nice job!

One of best places to get sushi in Michigan. Great atmosphere and great food. The sushi has never disappointed me and there’s a very large variety of something for everyone! My family, friends and I all love it! Delicious food!

Five stars for consistently being awesome. I’ve been to Sushi Zen a dozen times or so and never had a bad experience. The food, service, and atmosphere are always top notch! When you first walk up to the place, you really don’t expect it to be as nice as it is. It’s in a strip mall, next to a CVS& looks a little dark from the outside. My first time, I was very surprised at how nice the interior was as my expectations were set pretty low. We’ve enjoyed boats of sushi, bento boxes of spicy chicken, soba noodles, tempura rolls, and of course, saki! My favorite is a large warm saki with a Sapporo beer. I know they do the formal saki bombs too, which are always fun! Excellent choice for date night, a big group of friends, or on your own at the sushi bar. Can’t say enough good things about this place!

My husband and I love the food. We only order takeout, however, because the restaurant is small and very loud and the tables are so close to one another, it feels like you’re sitting at the same table as your neighbor.

This place was super busy on a Thursday night. We were seated immediately, the service was prompt, friendly and consistent. We ordered a sushi roll first, the Philadelphia, which is smoked salmon, cream cheese and cucumber. Let me just say that I’m not really a sushi fan. This sushi was exceptional. It was fresh, flavorful and didn’t have that overly fishy taste I’ve noticed other places. The ginger citrus dressing on the salad was delish. I’mnot a fan of miso soup, but the husband liked it. For our meal we shared the bentonite box of bulgogi. The bulgogi was singularly the best I’ve had. The beef was tender, lightly sauced, sweet and spicy. The bento also included tempura shrimp and vegetables. The bredding was light, not greasy and the vegetables were tender but not overcooked. The dumplings were great! We’ll be back!

Best Sushi ever! I am not exaggerating. I have not once ever had a poor experience here. The sushi is always fresh and delicious and reasonably priced. I’ve been to many sushi restaurants in Michigan and no one can compare. Pacific roll and the smoke house rolls are my faves!

I mean ehhh yeah it’s better than anything I’ve had in Lansing or Ann Arbor but cheese on sushi. Just not my thing the prices are pretty steep too 4.50 for a bottle of bud light. I spent almost 50 on 2 rolls and 2 beers. Now the waiting staff is amazing you get a good sense they actually enjoy working so that’s good. I was also impressed with the speed that I got my sushi they weren’t busy but I got some stuff that needed to be toasted so that’s good. But the two missing stars are for intense price for what you actually get, and the lack of flavour I got two completely different types of rolls but they tasted almost identical. The rolls almost seems like they were having an identity crisis so they were like yeah let’s just add cheese.

Absolutely LOVE this place, crazy girl roll and MSU rolls were the favorites last night. The only drawback was our server was a little rude and pushy… I would recommend this place for the sushi anytime!

Sushi Zen has been very good the times I have made purchases. In town for business and I am a sushi fan and the hotel concierge recommended Sushi Zen. You can order ahead and pick up or dine in. Seems to be a great atmosphere and as I had mentioned the various rolls and specialty appetizers have all been very good quality. If you are in or around Brighton and have a craving for sushi, give Sushi Zen a try. I doubt you will be nothing but very satisfied…

One of the better sushi locations in Brighton. Usually busy on the weekends and seems to be popular with the locals. Pretty decent sushi, but nothing spectacular. It’s good and fresh, just not very innovative, or authentic. The severs are friendly, but some of the younger and less experienced make mistakes and can be on the slower side. I would recommend for a quick, or casual dinner, but it’s not a high end sushi bar. Defiantly a bit pricy from other restaurants I’ve had. Would recommend, but don’t let your expectations get out of control, they are as advertised.

I have been to this restaurant on my way to Lansing from Ann Arbor. This restaurant always confuses me. I have been here many time past 10 years and they always had pretty good sushi chefs in the past. I have met one of the best chefs here and they were always treated me with respect and gave me excellent service even with limited resources they had(they only had frozen fish never fresh) However, past several years I have met those who«Used» to be this joins chefs but now they are at other restaurants. I was glad to see them at different locations but I always wonder why they had such high turn over. Yesterday, I had stopped by here on my way back home from Lansing and i had one of the worst experiences. First, the chefs were pretty rude. Not very friendly. They weren’t as busy as used to be and I didn’t know why i was treat disrespectfully. Secondly, I always have couple of special rolls and one of the garnished flowers were stained with other sauce which I didn’t have. I am wondering if they are reusing the garnishments. Third, I found small rock in the sushi rice. They weren’t terribly big but they surely ruined my dinner. I never thought this restaurant was horrible but with this type of recent experiences, I don’t think I will ever go back there. I know of plenty of better restaurants…

Oh.My.Gosh! Truly the best sushi restaurant I have been to, well, ever. Sushi Zen as a whole is a wonderful little restaurant. Clean, friendly staff, great service, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. As for the food, wow! I have not had a roll yet that I didn’t love. They’ve all been exceptional! Tasty and full of fresh ingredients. I am typically not a huge fan of miso soup or ginger dressing, but I can say that Sushi Zen’s miso soup and ginger dressing is the best I’ve ever had, and has become one of my most favorite parts of the meal. The only appetizer I have had so far is the soft shell crab, and it too was very tasty. I look forward to more visits, trying more rolls, appetizers and entrees. Well done, Sushi Zen!

This food was so good that it basically got us all high. I was so happy at the end of the meal that I couldn’t stop laughing like a tiny child. I’m pretty sure everyone around me was angry but I didn’t even care. Our server Kaitlyn was absolutely great, friendly and attentive. I would recommend trying the avocado boat which is a deep fried avocado and seafood treat, and it left our mouths feeling very #blessed. The bi bim bop was amazing and fresh, and you can choose how much or little of the delightful sauce to smother your food in — I would suggest using all of the sauce. Everything was fresh and flavorful and the entrees and lunch bowls come with a salad and miso soup which are both outrageously good. The place looks unassuming and is in a strip mall, but is surprisingly delicious. Go and enjoy copious amounts of sushi goodness.

Just a quick review on Sushi Zen. I visit Sushi Zen at least once a month and believe is one of the best places for sushi in the Detroit metro area. They fly their fish in 2x a week and it is typically fresh and well prepared. However, I am guessing it is flown in on Tuesdays and Fridays as my lack luster experiences(as outlined below) were on Sunday & Monday. For reference, I am not one of the people out there that have tried sushi a few times with little reference points. I actually travel extensively to Asia(at least 5 – 6 times a year including Japan) along with making it a staple in my domestic travel. Anyway, my past two experiences at SZ have been quite disappointing. I visited tonight with my family and an international colleague & his wife. Everything from the rice quality(dry) to fish seemed off. fish portions were quite small and we even had a roll topped with salmon that was sliced so thin the fish was transparent. Our Black Dragon roll was also served cold(has happened one other time in the past). As a side note, SZ used to have the best unagi around with huge rolls. However, I believe high market pricing of eel over the past two years has had an impact on these rolls. We never get any entrées but ordered chicken yakisoba tonight for my colleagues wife. The chicken was so dry I am confident it was pre-cooked and sliced chicken like one can get from Gordon Foods. Final point, our server was very polite but it was obvious that she was very new and inexperienced without a good understanding of the menu. For this I give tremendous grace as they have a difficult job and it was obvious that she was very new. Anyway, just curious if others have noticed things being«off» with SZ quality? Three stars is only due to my past positive experiences. I have not given up and promise to write a follow-up review soon. However, with two negatives, I hope I am not holding on to hope for my favorite restaurant in all of Brighton — and likely the surrounding area.

Delicious and awesome presentation. Best sushi around Livingston county. Only negative, is its more expensive than most sushi restaurants but you will not be disappointed if you go!

No curb appeal, so hold your opinion and your appetite until you get to your seat. It was fun to transition from bland strip mall to stylish interior. There were non-Asians making sushi and rolls with beef, but the sushi was great and the service was fun if a little sassy(which I always encourage). When I take someone for sushi I want a feast. We tried half a dozen rolls and it was all good. There uniform/T-shirt is fun so I bought one of those also. I am glad I found this spot. Five stars for what it is: Sushi in a small Detroit suburb.

A visiting SoCal sushi queen, thought I’d try it out, run down parking lot, wasnt sure about going in to try it, but did go in, found it to be quite pleasant and peaceful. No funny smells, nice décor, and adequate seating. Decided to eat at the bar. Sunday, at 4pm. Not overly busy, but ordering was fast, waiting for quite a bit of time. Good selection of beer, wine, sake, mixed drinks. Rolls are 11.00−15.00. Fish was good quality, not superior. Presentation was average. Overall, enjoyable, and satisfying. I would come back when in the area. Happy to have another option here. Bill total 100.00, 1 beer, 4 rolls, 2 sashimi, dessert, and appetizer, plus tip. Pricey. But, remember, Michigan is far from the fishies home. Give it a try!
