State Line Bar & Grille

This place is a must stop in if you love live music and great food. The State Line gets the name from being right at the border of TN and VA. Has a really homey feel — you can feel the history of the room but it also has plenty of bar décor.
The service can be uneven the reason I gave the four stars but the food food and the staff I had at the bar were very friendly and made sure I had a great experience.
I love to frequent non chains and in Bristol for live music this place it fun. A rotating schedule of quality live music. crowd is mostly on the younger side but there are plenty of hip older people as well which is great. Crowd is very friendly like a neighborhood place. Has the feel of a college bar with great food with plenty of history to tell.
I had the BBQ which was very high quality with a spicy BBQ sauce. On another occasion I had the burger which I would rate quite good — and I loved the homestyle chips — really nice personal touch which I appreciated.
Well worth a visit if you are in the area and enjoy a nice venue for live music and food!

Bar atmosphere but decent food. I had the Stateline Salad and a diet coke for lunch. Salad was good. It’s been a few years since I was here at night. I recall the bartenders were good. Crowd was a mix of young folks and a slightly older crowd.

The food was excellent. It was well prepared and very tasty. The wait staff was responsive and friendly. It’s a small local place that hits a homerun.

What a great place for lunch or dinner! We had the Reuben and a Stateline burger. Best Reuben I’ve ever had. The burger was big and very good. The homestyle chips were amazing! Will be back.

Great wings and variety of sauces will make every chili head happy!

We went here to kill time before the NASCAR race last month because we got to the track super early and had no one to tailgate with. Plus, it was our first time in the area so we wanted to see what it had to offer. Chose this place because it seemed like a bit of a dive, which is up our alley (just ’cause we’re highfalootin’ city folks don’t mean we don’t like to get down with the country folk). We grabbed a table and were mostly ignored. The server was not very friendly. It was extremely loud in there between all the TV’s and the convo. We ended up getting two orders of tenders, one batch in dirty teriyaki style (think spicy teriyaki style) and a whisky bbq one (also a little spicy) as well as an order of chips with white cheddar sauce. The food, once it arrived, was very, very tasty. We made it out of there for like $ 35 which included several beers and tip. The price was right, location was right, aesthetics were right, but service left a lot to be desired. I don’t think we’ll return when/​if we go back.

Avoid State Line Bar & Grill! I Have never been to a venue that has a stage the was run more unprofessionally then State Line Bar & Grill. I complete a stand-​up set after DJing for nearly two hours. After completing my set to mixed reviews (some loved it) Owner Amy Booher pulled me outside and informed me that I was not going to be paid $ 1 of the agreed amount. She was very rude and unprofessional. If you are a performer/​musician/​artist, DO NOT perform at State Line Bar & Grill.

I can only comment on drinks. The beer was cold and the bartenders didnt have much to say. I guess I shouldn’t complain because I“m still shocked to see that Bristol actually has some bars but they have a lot to learn.

The food is great, and the staff is laid back and nice. Whatever you do, make sure you get sweet potato fries with your order. They come with this dip, which is basically sour cream and cinnamon sugar. I mean, come ON!!!
Oh, and beware of the drunken street traffic. Seriously.

We were visiting family in town and stopped in here for a late lunch. Our server, doubling as the bartender, was decent at first, but disappeared toward the end of the meal. My boyfriend ordered the enormous hotdog (I forget what they call it), his mother had a white bean chili, and I got the chicken tenders. The hotdog was big enough to have fed two very hungry people. Awkward to eat, especially with the chili and added slaw toppings, but actually very tasty. My tenders were good as well. The bean chili didn’t look appetizing in the least, and my boyfriend’s mother didn’t take more than a few bites. I would definitely go back if I was in the mood for a hotdog because it was good and the size of it added entertainment value.

It has a good location. Food was okay. Good place to get together with friends. smoking allowed. YUK!

For 363 days of the year, I am sure State Line does OK, but for 2 days, this place ROCKS! When NASCAR comes to town, you have everyone from all over the country, rednecks, city slickers, horndogs and business types, all looking to have a good time.
We got there late on Thursday night and the karaōke was in full swing. The KJ did not announce anyone’s names, if your song started singing, you’d better be pushing your way through the crowd to the stage, or they will switch to the next song. It was a friendly and rowdy crowd and the music reflected how diverse the crowd was. Country, Oldies, dance, even Summer Nights was sung. People were dressed in «country casual» meaning, sleeveless tees and jeans for the guys, shorty shorts for the girls.
On Friday, the crowd was better dressed but still very friendly and active. The music was a good DJ mix of mostly modern pop and dance songs.
The bartenders do a great job of quickly getting the drinks out so the wait is minimal even with a crowd at the bar. If I get back to Bristol, you can be sure I will pay a visit to State Line!
