Extraordinary. That’s the word my entire family and I kept repeating after dining at this gem in City Island. Between the four of us we had a nice sampling of the menu including the moules marinieres, hangar steak with shallot sauce and cow au vin. Each dish was amazing and stands up against the best bistros in Paris. We also glanced at the weekend brunch menu and guarantee we will back for brunch – and again for dinner!

I could not have had a better time with my family than this. The brunch menu was great at only $ 30 per person, which includes an array of great brunch choices. It wasn’t much but all were good. It also includes unlimited mimosas, bloody Mary’s or other drinks(tea, coffee, iced tea, etc.). The crème brûlée was also very good. The outdoor seating is great and the staff is very attentive. I had no complains whatsoever. Definitely will be going back.

Excellent French bistro. Very good wines and draft Belgian beer. The escargot and coq au vin were excellent. French food with American sized portions. The chocolate mousse was thick creamy and to die for.

We visited Bistro SK on a random Tuesday night. Parking was easy. The food was exceptional. I ordered the escargo and skirt steak they were both perfect. Noemy ordered the french onion soup and the duck dish for her main. We have no compliants everything was perfect and reasonably priced. Parking outside was no problem either. The owners were very frienldly. I am happy we found this place and I will definitely visit again. Solid 5 stars!

Had a private bridal event here in 2013, had a fantastic time. Went back a few times for brunch and dinner. Unfortunately I live too far to become a regular, but every time I’m in the neighborhood, I make it a point to stop it.

One of my favorite restaurants that I wish I could get to more often. Both brunch and dinner are excellent. The croque Madame, onion soup, mussels and even the fries are all very good.

Another PERFECT dinner at Bistro SK! This gem of a restaurant never disappoints. Not only is the food exquisitely prepared and presented, the atmosphere is warm, cozy and inviting. My family and l brought three visiting relations to Bistro SK for Christmas Eve dinner and had the most memorable evening. The restaurant was beautifully and tastefully decorated and Stephan and Maria are so hospitable and welcoming. They make each and every patron feel like invited guests in their home! FIVESTARS across the board for Bistro SK!

Really solid overall menu. We got tender lamb shank, lovely stuffed chicken breast, escargot with a lovely parsley butter. Great sides of rice and mashed. And the mushroom soup! Just an overall solid well run French spot. Enjoy. I don’t think you can go wrong with anything you order.

ONLY French Restaurant in the BX. Had the Escargot and Duck Confit. Yum. Yum. Yum. It’s small and cute, so I would say to make a reservation. Can’t wait to go back.

My FAVE French restaurant!!! I moved to City Island in January 2015, right down the block from Bistro SK. I had eaten there previously over several years since they opened, but this time it was gonna be serious! My first evening there, I walked up the block in 16 degree weather with only a light sweater. When I arrived at Bistro SK I was warmly welcomed by the owners Stephane and his lovely wife Maria. The warmth just got better and better over time: these aren’t just hosts: these lovely people will welcome you with open arms and cherish you as if you are a long lost friend! Get ready to make new friends! I have never had a bad meal at Bistro SK. If you’re a first-timer, go right for the Steak au poivre. Take the Chef’s recommendation on temperature, it’s always perfect. The brunch is off the hook, too. Perfect food, perfect presentation. Last, but certainly not least, as I AM Scottish: the prices are very reasonable!

Arrived at the restaurant at 6pm, it was quite empty-so I sat at the bar and had a glass of some lovely malbec. Sat outdoors in the atrium, the temperature was perfect. My friend and I both ordered the escargot but the rest of the meal ended up as off the prix-fixe menu. Amazingly buttery and tender, it was great start. The butter made a great bread dip. I also got the cream of mushroom soup that was good, a tad under seasoned and with no discernible mushrooms. I ordered the lamb and my friend the duck. Both were good and flavorful. The meal finished with the«floating island». It was amazing! It’s a poached meringue, light and fluffy and quite unique. Coupled with a café au lait, it was the perfect ending to a meal. Overall a really lovely meal with good service and some great atmosphere. By the time we left, the atrium was filling in with people. It a really neighborhood bistro with a very attentive owner-chef.

I went there for the beef bourguinon, but they didn’t have it. The restaurant its self is absolutely beautiful and there is a lovely yard in the back. As the only French restaurant in the Bronx it really stands out. The service is generally excellent. The food was generally prepared well, but unfortunately everything from the bread to the lamb and the muscles were a bit stale or not as fresh as they could have been. The muscles were decent, but tiny. This is unfortunate and speaks to an issue with keeping the right amount of product on hand. I saw that they reduced their menu, so perhaps that will help. It really is a lovely place, they just need to work on their stock and update their website.

Quality food although the servers could be a little more friendly, especially when there is no lack of restaurants close by. Perhaps they think they can skate by because they’re «THEONLYFRENCHRESTAURANTINTHEBRONX !!!»(as proudly/boldly displayed on their homepage). Started off with a salad with shrimp and I ordered the braised lamb shank as my entrée. They also served bread to accompany everything. Salad was just fine but I enjoyed the lamb shank which was beautifully presented, was fall-off-the bone tender without being too soft, and was very flavorful. Bread was also pretty decent though nothing unique or that jumps out at you. It’s not huge inside so makes for a more quaint/romantic ambiance. We were pretty much the last folks to leave and were pleasantly sent off by well wishes of folks who may have been the owners… or some very happy patrons, after sipping on wine. Street parking available but I can see how it can be a bit more challenging during busier hours.

Thousands of people flock to City Island every summer to sample the many seafood restaurants this neighborhood of the Bronx has to offer. However, I’ve found the true culinary gems of the island lie beyond the neon-lit signs that line City Island Avenue. Bistro SK boasts on its website that it’s the only French restaurant in the Bronx, and I definitely believe them — I know of no other one in the borough. The décor of the restaurant is truly charming; it’s quirky, cozy, and classy all at the same time — they really cinched it. As we entered we were greeted by the owner Stephane who showed us to our table. The menu had a good selection of items. I decided to start with a simple mesclun salad which came with a dijon dressing — fairly simple but a nice start. For my main I had the pan-seared salmon which came with mashed potatoes and some string beans and julienned root veggies. The salmon was very tasty — crisp on the outside and tender on the inside; it was topped with a light cream-based sauce which complemented it well. The mashed potatoes were a little rich for my taste but still good — it’s a French restaurant so I guess it comes with the territory. Overall I had a pleasant experience at Bistro SK — solid food, good service, and great atmosphere.

We came here for memorial day. I wanted to introduce my significant other to a little bit of European culture and this place succeeded in that aspect of experience. First of all the owner, was very polite but not American style over the top. The food we ordered felt authentic to what I had in France few years back. I ordered lamb, my significant other ordered soft shell crab and her parents pepper steak. The décor inside the restaurant provides the other half of experience. The candles are very romantic, little French decorations/figures added extra touch. At the same time it was not overly done like in other places. The food, food was superb, the atmosphere and service reflected what I wanted out of this place.

Had a great Mother’s Day Brunch. Tasteful and cozy décor and outdoor seating. Great food with unlimited mimosa/bloody mary’s. Felt a bit rushed at first, as the meal came out right away, but there was no rush after we ate and they were not slow to refill the mimosas.

Pretty cool spot in an area otherwise dominated by mediocre seafood places. Bistro SK is located about halfway down City Island Ave. Parking was such a chore; there are only a few spots on the avenue, so you basically have to go to one of the neighboring side streets and park a good ways down(at least on busy days that is). As for the look and feel, the bistro is a bit run down but charming and cozy. I loved the tree that they built around in the middle of the dining room. Pretty neat. I have to say though, the décor made us suffer from a bit of Eiffel Toweritis. Jesus, We get it, it’s French. You don’t need Eiffel Towers everywhere to drive it home. That aside, the food was pretty solid. For apps, we got the frisee salad with bacon, croutons, and poached egg and the tuna tartare. As for mains we went with the sauteed striped bass which came with basmati rice and a provencale sauce and the chicken breast stuffed with mushroom and spinach, basil mashed potato, and apple brandy sauce. The apps were quite good, especially the tartar which was fresh and vibrant and served with a light cream cheese and seasoned cucumbers. As for the mains, we loved the perfectly cooked fish, but the chicken was quite under-seasoned. I got no apple brandy flavor and even the basil in the potatoes was hard to detect. Additionally, the meat was a tad overcooked so it came out a bit rubbery. I generally don’t like rubbery chicken :) Staff was competent and professional, but it was also definitely a bit French; they took their time getting to us here and there and seemed to forget us a few times. But hey, our kids made a mess and they didn’t bust our chops so that was nice. Overall, four stars. Not my favorite French spot but I would definitely go back to explore some more of their menu.
