I ordered a chicken burrito for myself and my mom, and coming into this place was a huge mistake. The food was very bland and flavorless(redundant I know, but it’s needed for this) and on top of that it was slightly cold. I was going to give them one star but since the worker I came into contact with was pleasant, I decided to give them one more star.

Flavorless Mexican food. Since when is Mexican food bland? Well here at The Burrito Shop. I will stick to the pizza parlor down the block, at least he makes you feel at home. The girl behind the register lacked any personality. Chipotle is wayyy better and it’s fast food, sad huh? Ordered a Burrito Bowl, 2 Crunchy and 2 soft tacos, all with grilled steak, guacamole and chips and a can of soda. $ 30. A few chips, there was no way to make my guacamole more spicy because it was premade, I suspect like everything else then heated in the microwave. I couldnt smell the sizzle of meat. Cooking on a grill or anywhere. Disappointed because nothing tastier than a taco with fresh toppings and delicious salsa and I wanted this place to be it. Will not be returning.

Food is yummy and when you order on grub hub it’s always been really fast. Don’t think I’ve ever waited more then 30 minutes and the delivery guy I’ve had a few times is also very pleasant which you don’t see much anymore. Also the fact that I ordered a soda from grub hub and they didn’t have it and actually called me to inform me of that instead of just sending something else was also impressive. I’d have given it 5 stars but they are a bit pricey. Even more expensive then the chipotle down the block.

I really wanted to like this place. I thought the menu sounded great and I love that they have so many vegetarian options. I live near 233 and white plains which is not next door to this place but I called for delivery, gave them my address and they told me they deliver to my address. After an hour and 15 minutes of waiting(was told it would be 35 to 40) I got a call from a man who must have been the manager asking if his guy had shown up yet. He asked me my address at least 5 times while talking to his delivery guy on the phone in his other hand. Only to find out no, they don’t deliver to my address. The guy kinda apologized but it was clearly not sincere. He acted like this was my fault even though the first thing I did was give my address. Very poor customer service. And maybe they should consider investing in a map?

Ordered for delivery the burrito bowl with portobello and spinach, no rice. Food delivery was very fast however beans spilled in bag, along with green sauce Taste: bland, ordinary and no flavor Asked for no rice, extra veggie, got rice no extra veggies Overall, food was bland, was expecting better tasting food since they offer vegeterian options. Really disappointing

This place is such a hidden gem – my family ends up ordering food from here at least once a week. I wouldn’t recommend eating inside because it is a bit small, but its perfect for takeout. The delivery is always quick(they deliver by bike) and its extremely rare they mess up an order. The burritos are super filling and really delicious. The prices are a little high but the portion sizes and the quality of the ingredients are definitely worth it. Definitely the best Mexican food in Riverdale!

This is a mom and pop shop, lovingly decorated with posters from Mexico and an old tin Fresca sign. The burritos, quesadillas, tacos and other items are all fresh made and delicious. There are lots of vegetarian options — not only rice and beans but soy and portobello mushrooms. Most meals are about $ 8, and come with chips salsa guac and sour cream. I recommend it!

Gotten burritos here plenty of times. Very good food and the service is really quick. Only ordered delivery once via seamless and apparently they don’t deliver up by me but somehow order still went thru. Guy called me and let me know they’ll deliver this one time but it’s normally too far. Once I saw the soaked delivery guy at my door I realized they only deliver by bike. Womp womp. Good food tho, thumbs up

I ordered food for take-away at 6:20pm. 3 out 4 of my food items were wrong after I checked with person at the front desk to make sure they were right. I called and asked for replacement food to be delivered at 6:45pm. After a lengthy discussion, the woman on the phone agreed to send replacement food. At 8pm I had still not received my food, so I called back and found out the woman on the phone and not even written down my address or my phone number. They apologized and agreed to send out my meal to me. They said it would five or ten more minutes only. It’s now 8:30pm and I still have not received the food I ordered at 6:20pm. This is beyond ridiculous.

The food here can be really good. Unfortunately, I have had several bad experiences with raw meat and poor service from the delivery person, both things that have been mentioned in previous reviews. In October of 2014, I ordered two salads without beans. They sent them with beans. When I called, they met me with some resistance, stating the cook assured them he did not include beans. Meanwhile, I’m looking at the beans. I explained that I would save the salads, but expected new salads to be sent to me. When they sent them to me, the meat was severely under cooked. When I called to inform them of this, they said that the chef was upset that my husband gave him attitude. This does NOT give reason for raw meat. I stopped ordering from here for a few months, but started ordering again as of recently. This past week, we ordered for delivery. When my husband signed the receipt with the added tip(we paid debit), the delivery man demanded a bigger tip because of the weather. Completely uncalled for. It seems that management does not have proper control over their staff members, since they have no issues with building bad blood with customers. I, for one, will not be ordering from there again.

This was my second time ordering the carnitas burrito from Burrito Shop. After my first bite or two, and then sharing a bite with the hubby, he asked what’s in it, so I showed him the deliciousness bundled inside the tortilla, only to notice a one inch piece of something pink. I thought at first it might just be a chunk of tomato but pulled it out anyway,…low and behold, raw meat. Not even a little pink like it was undercooked, but totally raw. I dumped the rest of the burrito on a plate to see if this was the only piece, because I was still starving enough that I hoped the rest could be salvaged, but then found another raw piece. I wasn’t even grossed out, and it wasn’t worth calling to complain because I definitely didn’t want a replacement after this disappointment… I was just sad that I’ll have to head back to those ridiculously long Chipotle lines when I need a burrito fix from now on :-(

Its not bad not great, the beef kinda smells like liver when it cools down. But its fresh and sorta tasty when hot. They dont have quacomole which pretty disapointing specialy for a taco place.

Dropped by here twice for takeout while en route to my friend’s house. Atmosphere: Very clean and modern. Service: Not the world’s friendliest, but not rude either. Food: Very good and filling. First time, I had the carnitas burrito, which was so huge that I ended up eating it with a knife and fork. Second round, was the chimichanga, which is basically deep fried burrito heaven… tortilla was golden and crispy, the meat so tender that it melted in your mouth, as did the cheese. It was love at first bite. The shop offers free water to drink, but they also have an interesting selection of Mexican sodas. Only caveats I have with this place is that it is a little overpriced, considering the location, and the fact that Mexican food is generally inexpensive. Also, the chips(free with each purchase) can use a little salt and the guacamole is a little on the meh side. 3 ½ stars.

Ok, the fact they got my order wrong is forgivable. I ordered a spinach — portabella burrito and got a spinach — tofu. Even thought the wrapper said spinach portabella. I have to say there wasn’t a lot of spinach in it. But, my daughter’s braised pork burrito had a ONEINCHPIECEOFBONEINIT!!! It’s the size of the tip of my thumb. You decide if that’s what you want to eat. BTW– I called the shop and told them what I found. I was told manager was not in but they would leave a message. I waited almost 48 hours for someone to get back to me… surprise…no call.

Every time I eat here, the food is delicious and tasty. The people behind the counter are nice, but seem kind of unexperienced. I don’t mean that in a bad way, but just that they seem kind unaware or unresponsive. I think in food service when you have customers come in, you should immediately pay attention to them instead of looking away and talking to coworkers. The food, on the other hand is superb! Got an Half Avocado Burrito Bowl and loved it. The other day I got a taco trio from the special menu, which includes a chicken, pork, and some other meat taco. Unfortunately these tacos got soggy within 10 minutes, but they packed in a lot of taste. The sauce cups were also a plus. Overall, I enjoyed my experience at the Shop. It is never crowded when I stop by and makes really good food. Will come often.

So I decided to use GrubHub for the first time and since I live in the area(up the street) I really wanted to check this place out. So i ordered and it came in about 20 minutes, the delivery man came to the door and he pointed at the price… so I pull out a ten dollar bill and he just stares at me. I ask for my change, he said, «its 9.31» I told him I understood but I wanted my change; he then pointed at the price and once again he said«Its 9.31» Of course, I told him that I thoroughly understood and comprehended what the price was, I just wanted my change. Now he may have not had any spare change or not, but he then said, «You really want change for that price?» As if the 69 cents meant nothing. I mean, okay I get it — it is just a few cents, but its the PRINCIPAL that gets me. So I just said«whatever» and went upstairs to IMMEDIATELY call the store up. I tel them the situation, I «expressed» my feelings and told them that it was extremely unprofessional. They still sent the man over with the 69 cents, and I basically told him to buzz off and keep it. Overall, the service sucked ass and the burrito literally fell apart the second I bit in to it. I ended up eating the rest of it with a spoon… It was tasty, but I am extremely turned off by it. If anyone wants to take a chance with this place by all means go ahead, maybe it was because people in this area are too generous and only give out what they want, instead of asking for change — maybe they were having a rush of people and sloppily made my burrito, its okay. I’ll take one more chance with these guys, but I better get my damn change this time!

I finally had the chance to try this place recently. I’m from the West, so I am always looking for(wishing for) good Mexican food in NYC, and even better in my neighborhood. So, I got a chicken burrito for $ 8.75. I decided to add guacamole to the burrito for $ 1.50 as their sides prices were pretty high(I think 2.50 for a 4oz container). I also got a side of chips and salsa which was $ 4 something. I think they might have put a tablespoon of guacamole in there, it was almost nonexistent, especially for the price tag. The burrito was a good size, similar to What I remember at blockheads. The grilled chicken had a good flavor to it. There was a lot of rice and beans in there, which accounted for most of the filling. Overall I thought it was fine… Not bad, but nothing special. The salsa I thought was pretty good and seemed fresh. My husband tasted it and thought something was missing but I was ok with it. The chips were homemade and pretty good, maybe could use a little salt but overall good. 4 bucks for the chips and salsa was outrageous though. For the amount $ 2 or $ 2.50 max is appropriate. Basically this place kept the prices of the Manhattan location, which are super inflated given the portion sizes and that it’s just all right tasting, not amazing. For this location, I think they are going to struggle. $ 15 for a burrito and Chips and salsa isn’t reasonable for a take out joint. The previous Mexican joint in this location didn’t look anywhere near as pretty as this place, but were quite a bit cheaper and their food was awesome… and they closed.

So many years on Unilocal, finally a first review! Many people know this small chain, the have a few locations in the city. I’ve heard good things but never visited. Then boom. New spot right by the casa. I stopped in for a burrito bowl, with chicken. Small place, nice people. Food was ready in less than 2 minutes. The grub was really good! I say this as a 10 year California resident(north and south) and I’ve had my share of great mex. Everything in the bowl was fresh and tasted great. The habenero sauce was also a welcome sight. I wish I ordered more! I’ll be back again. I snapped a pic too. Welcome to the hood, we need you.
