Service is unprofessional. Food is just ok. I would think to go here as my first choice for guyanese food. It’s a typical low-class guyanese bar. Nothing special. Save your time, money, and effort.

Few of the foods I tried is great therefore the one star otherwise I would have given just zero if I could have. The customer service here is horrible!!! They don’t provide you a receipt you have to ask for it all the time, and my recent visits the prices have gone up a dollar or two without even knowing. There are two female employees and both charged me differently with the same order. For a can of soda they charge $ 2. I bought two cans thinking it was a dollar each and had to pay $ 4. That’s just absurd and crazy!!! It’s usually empty or filled with bunch of drunk guys drinking or playing pool prying with evil eyes whenever a lady walks in so guys do yourself a favor and leave your significant other or someone you love at home unless they covered up well. The employees here talk however dirty they want I guess they are oblivious to the fact that customers are there or they just don’t care. Word of advice to the management is to be more professional and act like a real business!!!

Went with a friend after work and ordered a few double shots of Chivas… bill came out to 80 bucks in less then an hour… that wasn’t the problem, me and my friend notice a few customers were getting buy backs so we asked the bartender do you give buy backs and the bartender said we don’t do that here, so I said I’ve seen you give a few out and she replied with they’re regulars… well ok, also the bartender was unprofessional, when we went outside to have a smoke she came running out screaming are you guys coming back like we were gonna leave on the bill… mind you we were half way done with our 2nd drink… hence that’s why we put napkins on top of our drinks showing that we will be back, I suggest going with someone that’s a regular and you may get better service.

My cousin orders take out every Friday cause they deliver. The pepper shrimp and chicken and broccoli are on point. As a girl it’s creepy to go into. As a bar my boyfriend isn’t too thrilled about this place. The best part he says it the little patio in the back that he can smoke at.

Very unprofessional, there was a man selling DVDs in the corner and everyone was buying. Owner was no where to be found, bartenders were randomly moping behind the bar while customers sat at the bar, the smell was very bothering.

First off the five stars is for the food only. The food is outrageously good. Their bunjal duck with dal and rice is LEGENDARY!!! Their dal pouri is amongst the best. This Guyanese kitchen produces pure gastronomic bliss! This is the stuff olé granny used to make back in Leguan! However folks this place is a bar. It’s often populated with the usual rummy bar flies. If you’re a woman go there with other people to avoid lecherous advances and problems by the hopelessly inebriated. The young eye candy that work the bar crowd are reliably stupid. They’re sure to mess up your order so make sure you double check every single item before you leave. When a screw up happens the owner usually makes it right if he can remembered your issue.

Don’t be deterred by the forbidding exterior and the pool table that dominates the room. The food here is delicious, and the portions are very generous. We’ve had lamb fried rice, gizzards, black pudding, fried shark, jerk chicken fried rice, bunjal goat and polurie. The food rivals, and perhaps surpasses, many of the establishments on Liberty Ave. I had to laugh at XY’s review about the police sweeps, etc. I confess that I’ve never been here at night, but could definitely see how XY’s description could be true. All of the single women customers we observed during our several trips here were picking up take-out orders, perhaps so as not to have to linger among the patrons who are primarily single male beer-drinking pool players. So if you’re on the timid side(or a single lady), study the menu on-line and phone in your order for take-out.

BESTJERKCHICKENEVER !!! My bf is guyanese and for years he has begged me to eat Guyanese food. I dont think I’ll ever eat jamaican food again lol. The way the jerk chicken tasted was indescribable. Soft, spicy, and full of flavor. I’ve never had better chicken from the Caribbean. The fried rice was great ! My bf ordered the mixed fried rice which was pretty amazing! The place itself is more of a bar than a restaurant. There was a lot of guys playing pool, but it was pretty much a «chill» environment. Nobody bothers you. Kudos to the chef. I shall return !

This place always gets my order wrong. I don’t know if they can’t tell the difference between lomein and fried rice. Duck anything is just expensive bones. It’s horrible. The duck lo mein or fried rice is awful. Over price and just bones. I don’t recommend this place anymore.

I’m a fan. Went here last night and had a blast with the bestie, talking to the locals. I live in the vicinity and it was refreshing to be around so many of my fellow caribbeans listening to great tunes. Definitely a rum or hennessy and red bull type of venue. Ordered the jerk chicken, roti shell, dhal pourie and buffalo wings, all great except the wings were not saucy — tasty, just not what you would expect. Mixed drinks(we had many) are not strong at all, stick with the beers(we had many of those too!) because you won’t get anywhere near a buzz with the LITs, Caribbean Martinis or Tequila Sunrises. Bartender was extremely sweet and accomodating and so was the owner. STAYAWAYFROMTHEHOTSAUCE — lol, I’m a serious fan of spicy food but that stuff is the real deal! Pool table in the center got alot of play time. Chill crowd, layed back vibe. Will definitely be back.

Ugh. So the first time I ate at this place, their Chicken and Broccoli was delicious! My mother in law ordered it and I regretted not having it all to myself. I thought, «This is a West Indian place, why would I order something woefully Chinese?» It wasn’t your typical Chiny Chick and Broc. Something about the sauce, spices and the way the chicken was fried(yes FRIED) made it special. So I was excited to come back… Round two: Ordered a plate all to myself… Sadly, I got Chinese restaurant mediocre quality Chicken and Broccoli over rice… Lesson: This place is inconsistent! Boo! What they do best in my opinion, is Mo’s Black Pudding. Try it, if you’re adventurous enough. It’s blood and rice sausage. It’s delicious, especially with the yellow pepper/sour sauce they serve it with! Would definitely be back for more of this stuff… and possibly see if their chicken and broccoli has changed yet again…

Food one day — 4 stars Food another day — 2 stars That’s why I have to give them a three. Their en tree’s are inconsistent when it comes to their«Chinese» portion of their menu. As far as it goes for their Guyanese menu everything is all good. Not at great place to eat in with the family after six on the weekends. My wife and I really like their black pudding.

I really enjoy this place. Not quite the Jamaican food I am used to(I believe it’s Guyanese cuisine) but it definitely is fresh and well made. They have recently remodeled and it feels a bit leery inside when you pick up orders(now, orders are picked up at the bar area). I work in the area and my coworkers and I love ordering from this spot. I recommend calling your orders in advance for take-out. I wouldn’t waste money on their shrimp curry. The ‘jumbo’ shrimp($ 15) were medium, at best and they didn’t give enough shrimp or curry to warrant the cost. The regular shrimp curry($ 11) uses baby shrimp, maybe even salad shrimp. It tasted good, just cost too much for the amount they serve. That aside, let’s get to the positives. The roti is great. You can tell they make it same day. I like the regular roti better than the dhal(chickpea) roti because it’s thicker, comparable to naan bread. The fried rice is sooo good. You can tell that they use really fresh ingredients. I think a large vegetable fried rice is around $ 9 and it is more than enough for two people. The potato balls and polourie are awesome. I just love coming to the Bronx and picking up grub from this spot. Don’t forget to ask for their scotch bonnet hot sauce… my mouth is watering just thinking about it :oD

Would give this place 0 stars if I could. BF was there on Friday 06÷30÷11, left his credit card there by accident. He couldn’t get back there until Sunday 07÷03÷11 to pick it up. He called several times to confirm that they were still in possession of the card and if he could pick up on Sunday. They verified that they were indeed still holding the card. He got there at about 6:30pm Sunday — card was nowhere to be found, and the manager was not on premises nor reachable by cell phone. Checked the card balance online: 2 unauthorized charges for $ 500 and $ 61.75, both on 07÷03÷11, both at local businesses. Lesson learned: Don’t go to this place, or pay cash.

My first experience tasting Guyanese food was here at Coconut Palm and it was amazing. All the flavors it was like a party in my mouth funny :) I know. So I think my favorite is the beans and rice and since I’m Hispanic I know a thing or two about that and it was great with all the seasoning man it was good. Of course Curry with Roti delicious. They have a breakfast dish called Saltfish and bake also one of my favorites. I love that you can sit in the restaurant to dine then head right next door for a cognac on the rocks or a nice cocktail it’s affordable and yet your sure to leave there full and If your looking for it a nice buzz ;) Enjoy I sure did.

A great melting pot of Caribbean culture in the available cuisine, passing and regular trade and also the music playing in this great little venue… A 30 second walk from ‘Zerega’ train station, on the 6 train famously made known by Jennifer Lopez having her first album named after it. Coconut Palm once know as Coconut cove and still named by the regulars as «the Cove» is a great spot for meeting the local Guyanese in and around the«Castle Hill» area. Known for having a wide selection of liquors and absolutely stunningly beautiful Puerto Rican and Dominican staff serving them to you, it is certainly a bar you’d want to visit. The bar gets a 4 stars, great service and very attentive staff. Attatched to the bar is a great new restaurant opened in 2007, for those who would preffer to eat in an atmosphere more suited for dining, the quality of the food itself, portions and tastiness could easily get 5 stars in a very«grannies kitchen» type, covering Indo carribean and Chinese– Guyanese, you’ll sure to find something you like, I’d give the restaurant itself gets again 4 stars… Great for the family. During the day you’ll find in the bar area regulars playing pool or «Texas hold em» and by dusk the pool table is moved and a dance floor is opened up, great selection of music for those who can really move their waist and like to dance all night long, the floor attracts people of all ages above 21. There is no official closing time to the venue it just closes when the manager decides it’s time to «retire for the day». Coconut palm has a wide appeal from the food to the music a simple drink after work to a night out and dancing whatever you want the are great for all and you’ll be sure to enjoy you time. All round 4 stars!
