Grunebaum’s has a limited selection and is satisfactory for their(kosher) challah and other breads, notably rye. Their sweets, however, leave something to be desired; layer cakes are full of artificial ingredients to assure they may be eaten with milk or meat and unfortunately other items, such as their almond horns, are sometimes several days old(and taste it!) although sold at full price. Fortunately the staff is friendly so we still stop by for a(fresh!) bread on occasion.

Unfriendly, not particularly good and inconsistent service. Baked goods are not what you would expect from this type of establishment. The bagel shop across the street is 10 times better than this place. Popular among those who keep kosher but for the rest of us– there are better options.

Delicious bakery, but, their employees don’t wear gloves. They serve food using bare hands that just handled dirty money and, same hand they used to cough and sneeze into.

It’s ok not great but ok. Cookies are fine but not fantastic. Bagels pretty good. Breads so-so. Not my favorite place in Riverdale but serviceable. Its generally clean and has friendly staff. It’s expensive but kosher places usually are somewhat pricier so that doesn’t surprise me. If kosher doesn’t matter I recommend picking up bagels from the Italian place(Riverdale Bagel) across the street. Their bagels are significantly fresher and cost less as well.

Cute little area in the back where they make breakfast and all sorts of items. I was very pleased with the service. :BATHROOMALERT: The bathroom wasn’t all that clean but this isn’t a place where someone would use the bathroom anyway. I can see why they slack on the cleaning of it. Maybe they didn’t get to it cause it was the morning. My egg sandwich was delicious and I like that your able to make your own coffee, tea, etc.

I miss this place. It was my first stop on the way to school, back in the day… They make the best rugelach, rainbow cookies, linzer, mini choc. Chips and hamentachen. I haven’t been in eons but hopefully they kept the integrity of the recipes! Kosher baking!

I was looking for an inexpensive place to have breakfast, drink some coffee, and be treated civilly. Luckily, this is such a place, plus the bonus of a mini Black/White cookie for 75¢. This is a Jewish Bakery in front. When I looked in the floor was a little dirty, so I checked out Riverdale Bagels across the street, but I didn’t like the looks of that. So I returned to this bakery/restaurant. After I entered, I was pleasantly surprised to see a spacious, simple seating area, with a small order counter. Two pleasant men took orders and whipped up tasty bagels, and egg orders. I had an American Cheese Omelette on a toasted Poppy seed bagel. Excellent and only $ 4. You serve yourself coffee, which I liked. Everyone seemed happy, which is a nice change from some NYC restaurants. Afterwards I indulged in a small B/W cookie. Nice to cheat, with a small serving.

On the plus side, most of their stuff is tasty, and they have decent bagels. Downside, I bought a pastry there that had mold inside of it. Love their lindzer cookies. I no longer buy anything there that I can’t give a good thorough visual inspection, but I’ll still get cookies and breads and such.

Their coffee is very good you can make it yourself, which I love. The staff is friendly and one lady in particular *always* tells everyone to, «Have a beautiful day.» She has a smile for all the customers. She’s great. I love their ‘black and whites’ and any of the pastries I have tried have been good. I don’t believe I have ever purchased a cake or pie there. I’ve gotten a couple of ‘twisted water rolls’ that I liked. Sadly, the bagels are awful, too big and more like bread than a bagel. But a good bagel is getting harder and harder to find. :(I am a regular customer and have been for years. There are a few kosher bakeries/delis in Riverdale and I prefer this one to any of the others.

Contrary to the post above, it does indeed take credit cards now(Thankfully!)… This is a pretty good kosher bakery for many things. I do not know how much is made there. I do know they import a lot from another kosher bakery. The prices aren’t bad-something good about mass production-and the cakes are quite good. If you have a food allergy, you know what you’re getting here!

I came here on a quest for rainbow cookies. Hooray, the quest was successful! At $ 8.95 a pound for assorted cookies and pastries, it was a good deal. I got eight pieces for something like $ 2.70. It was a dense cake but was lacking a little in the jam-layer area. Slices were cool to the touch, well-refrigerated and tasty. The store itself is not the most glamorous or flashy place in the world, but it seemed pretty clean. I believe the store also sells traditionally Jewish pastries and bread. If you know where the Food Emporium is, this place is right next door. UPDATE: They accept credit cards now.
