The food was descent missing some authentic flavoring. The service was extremely poor as tge young lady was extremely unprofessional and not welcoming when i was asking for more detail as the menu was not that helpful. I think you should find another place if you are interested in eating mexican food. Customer service means a lot to me

Great hole in the wall local place after a day at NYBG. Went here in recommendation of another Unilocaler. We were not disappointed. The food was fresh and delicious. Wasn’t impressed by the salsa– deducted 1 star. The service was amazing. They were kind and informative. Add 3 stars. The food was good-add 3 stars. The prices were fair-finally! Add 3 stars. Oh wait we are up to 9! Too bad we can only give 5. Thanks a lot. Can’t wait to visit next time we are in the neighborhood.

One of the joys of doing things alone is that you can do what you want without compromise. Sis loves the NYBG but isn’t a fan of exploring the nabe. So when sis couldn’t come to the NYBG this time around, I excitedly whipped out my Unilocal out to check the reviews on this restaurant I’ve been eyeing every time time we had passed it on the bus. Unilocalers gave it the seal of approval and boy, Ok Mr. Pancho is more than A-Okay. Forget the lame burritos at Chipotle with the pre-cooked fillings and partially cooked rice. Ok. Mr. Pancho serves you a gigantic burrito that was bigger than my mitten. And it was flavorful. Happily, this place has vegetarian options, along with a shrimp burrito. The vegetarian burrito made two meals for me, chock full of yellow and green squash, portabella, string beans, corn, green peas and soft rice in this tasty sauce. This is no fast food joint. Be prepared to wait because there was only one cook when I went and he made my burrito fresh. I think I waited 10 – 15 minutes, not long at all if you want a fresh cooked meal. I was surprised by any negative reviews because my experience was wonderful. The lovely woman, Dahlia(?) who took the orders even brought over chips and salsa as I waited, even though it was takeout. The salsa, a little on the sweeter side, was fresh as were the home made tortillas. I devoured chips and salsa. I tried to eat much of my burrito as soon as I entered the NYBG, as it was so heavy. The leftovers were just as good, hours later. If you want to eat in, this is a warm place, it has small tables, with colorful Mexican decorations and some refrigerators selling drinks. The sign says grocery but I didn’t check to see if any of the refrigerators or cases sold Mexican foodstuff. They do have tacos, cemitas, quesadillas etc. It is very clean, with sweet staff who do speak English. Ok. Mr. Pancho is worth a visit anytime, and especially if you are going to the NYBG and want a Mexican picnic in the park.

I’m not sure why this place is rated so highly. The salsa tastes like they put ketchup in it. The chips were greasy. I had a cemita with milanesa de res and the meat had an old taste. My husband had the carnitas and they were so greasy. Just gross food. Except the horchata that was good and the staff was very friendly.

A little hole-in-the-wall place that my friend and I discovered after our trip to the Botanic Gardens. It’s sort of a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it spot. It’s actually only a couple blocks away from the botanic gardens on the way to/from the subway stop. The place is no frills, but clean and our server spoke English quite well, so we had no problems communicating/ordering. The food, though, is great! They give you a basket of chips and salsa on the house upon sitting down. If you get a second basket, though, they will charge you for that(as we learned the hard way when we got our bill — it’s just like $ 1.50 or $ 2 so it’s no big deal). I ordered a bunch of tacos with my friend after our Botanic Gardens visit. I think that my favorite was the chorizo.

Amazing. We were stressed to catch the metro north so they made our food in record time. Plus it was delicious! Great option of you’re in the neighborhood.

While service is really slow(is there just one person working in this entire place?) the food was really good and the server was very nice. We had nachos, quesadillas and tacos, all very tasty.

My favorite favorite favorite Mexican restaurant in this neighborhood. So tasty and authentic. Their chicken quesadillas and«limonada» are my favorite items to order! I would definitely recommend this place to any and everyone! Think I might eat there today actually.

I love 3 carnitas tacos con todo! The chorizo burrito is awesome but I prefer the rice and beans on the side. I can go on forever. Just try it.

I’ve ordered from Mr. ponchos many times the carnitas are very greasy the chicken is very bland the only good would be the steak It has good seasoning and cooked well. I would recommend a burrito with steak tacos are also good for nachos are good and tostadas a good overall the place is a seven out of 10

If you write this place off stating«I’d rather go to taco bell» you need your head examined. The best authentic ethnic food comes from unassuming holes in the wall. The space is small and a little worn BUT it’s clean. They are definitely heavy handed with the cilantro here but I’m obsessed with cilantro so that’s cool. I got the carnitas tacos and a beef tongue tostada. The carnitas was better than the beef tongue but I was trying to get out of my carnitas rut(kinda). The green sauce is awesome. If you’re at the Botanical Garden and want good food come here. Not far from the Botanical Garden Metro North station(or Fordham for that matter)

Food is great and Mexican of course. my only concern is that i have been waiting 45 minutes for food that I called in and expected to be done when I walked in. They started my order literally 10 minutes after I walked in. Theres 4 workers but only one cook! That isnt a good thing to do

Mmm, authentic tacos like you find in New Rochelle in the Bronx? I’m sold. Ok Mr. Pancho is a small, take-out focused restaurant located in a somewhat bleak area in terms of food options. With a moderate selection of yummy Mexican items including tacos, burritos and quesadillas, Mr. Pancho fills a void in Bedford Park. I ordered simply two chicken tacos, with everything. With a few drops of red and green sauce– oh man! A flavor explosion! The meal comes with tortilla chips and a delectable salsa, and everything is cheap, cheap cheap! I would definitely return.

I work minutes from this place and i can’t understand how people could give this place more than 1 star. The only way i can see people giving it more than 1 star is if you’ve never been to real Mexican restaurant or never had real Mexican food and don’t know how good real Mexican food is supposed to taste. I went here 2x and both times the food was very bland and pricey. Another thing to mention it’s connected to Webster Café a place that got a C grade. I would rather go to Taco Bell.

Current deal is 5 tacos for $ 9(mix and match) which seems great but the filling is so meager. Flavor is mediocre. Service was fast, in and out in 5 minutes.

Order the pork tacos and nacho supreme and LOTSOFGREENSAUCE! Dont order the steak-burnt pieces! THISISASREALANDGOODASITGETSPEOPLE. The carnitas HANDS down best taco I have ever eaten. And I dig and search for good taco spots in NYC, Miami, LA, and even CHINA. So juicy, so fresh(literally tasted like it fell off the pig 2 mins ago) and tender. The nachos were BOMB as well, fresh pollo, fresh guac and fresh chips. I def left that place full and licking my lips. Def a hole in the wall, small joint but don’t let the exterior fool you.
