I stand by my original review. We came here on a Saturday evening bc I was craving Mexican food and we wanted an authentic sit down vs a chain restaurant like Moes’s up the street. The service was slow and when the food came out or order was screwed up. I ordered my daughter a CHEESEQUESADILLA… She ended up getting a cheese enchilada. I had it sent back but our server tried telling me I ordered an enchilada… Ah no I didn’t! I know for a fact my kid wouldn’t like an enchilada so I wouldn’t have even attempted it. I ordered for myself a beef taco and a beef enchilada… What I got was a beef taco and a chicken enchilada. As I started to eat my taco I told the waiter the order was wrong but I would eat the enchilada since it was already made. I was told the cool would make me a beef enchilada and to start eating the taco. After a good 3 – 4 minutes the waiter cam back over and told me my other plate was coming out and took my plate away… Seriously?! I would have been happy finish my taco, eat what I had and just comp my meal or drinks or something. Overall we were yet again disappointed and never plan to be back.

Mexican food is pretty easy(and relatively inexpensive) to prepare at home. With that said, you have to give me a reason to come to your restaurant and spend 5 times the money than I would cooking at home. That’s where El Coyote loses me. I found the ground beef to be terribly under seasoned, the presentation«thrown together» even though it wasn’t busy, the portion sizes too small, and a general theme of blandness emanating from our dinner. Having grown up in the south, the Northeast US has a reputation for poor Mexican food, and El Coyote perpetuates that opinion in my book.

Love el coyote, the food is great. Our favorites are the enchilladas, red and green are both awesome. The rice and black beans are fantastic, and the salsa is killer. Creamy potatoes too, yummy! But if you order fajitas to go, make sure they give you the tortillas!

The food is good but not authentic nor upscale. They also have a restaurant in Newtown. They are however a good place to go for drinks if you want to get away from the candlewood lake crowd. Good place for a quick lunch as well. Their best feature is the guacomole prepared table side — its worth it. Like many Connecticut restaurants, Located at the end of a shopping plaza. It is right next door to one of 3 or 4 Dunkin Donuts in Brookfield. Service is good but communication is sometimes a little problematic. Some servers speak English fluently while others not so much. This can be an issue but they are quick to correct any mistakes. Service is fast and good. Not much to say about décor, adequate — it does represent the mood though. Everything is adequate.

Usually we love this place, best in the area. BUT, this time there was hairs in our salsa and chips. Moreover, the ice cubes contained black pieces of dirt; looked like someone put coarse ground pepper in the ice cube machine. To top it off, the server didn’t try to make things right by crediting our $ 70 bill. Disappointed! :-(

My hubby and I like to go here for drinks and appetizers. Margaritas and sangria are yummy and their guacamole is delicious. Salsa has a nice kick to it as well! Staff is always super nice.

My girlfriend and I love this place. Authentic food, very reasonable prices, and great service. Every time we are in the area this is our go to spot.

I hate leaving bad reviews, especially because the people here were so nice. but on the ONE night I went, the food was horrible. I add that it was just once that Ive went, as it may have been a night/time when they had bad coverage in the kitchen. The guacamole at the table is always nice and if the meals stopped with that and a beer, it’d be an OK experience. but all of the meals at our table were truly bad. Shrimp that tasted as if it was defrosted, refrozen and then defrosted again in water, was sent back and came back even worse. Meat was poor cuts that didnt taste freshly cut or cooked. The beans tasted like baby food. Flavorless food and one of the worst meals I’ve had in a long while. Unless youre going to drink, go elsewhere.

Uneven quality. Attended a group gathering to celebrate a birthday. While the flowing tequila did much to promote merriment, having four couples seated together means 8 dinners come out at the same time. Given the many stars and good reviews, one might think that they have a handle on getting all the meals out at a warm temperature but my seafood dish was cold to the touch. Apparently they made it first before the rest of the fajita dishes which are meant to be sizzling when served. I’m anti nuke and chose not to send my meal back to be microwaved warm. Instead I mixed in some of the sizzling hot fajita veggies to make the meal palatable. Gave the place another try and this time ordered the fajitas. We’d been out running errands for hours and were famished. We got our food quickly and this time it was hot but the veggies were limp and translucent like they had been steamed or par cooked earlier and quickly sauteed to heat up rather than crisp and seared. The next time the idea came up to dine here, recounting my recent experiences turned the group elsewhere for wine and pasta. In all likelihood, given the skinny margarita fun factor, I may be back but I’ll be sure to drink more than I eat so I’ll care less about it all.

I had been to El Coyote in the past for an enjoyable dinner hut unfortunately, the lunch experience did not measure up. At 1 pm there was only one other party eating– should have been a sign to us. We were promptly seated but then our orders were not taken for another 15 minutes. Two dining companions ordered shrimp dishes– the lunch portions contain 4 shrimp each — not enough food for adults of normal proportions. My cheese enchiladas were adequate size-wize but were served barely warm… strange. The bill came to $ 50 for 4 people, which seems cheap until you realize you need another lunch.

This place is so consistently good. We had another terrific meal. Those stuffed sombreros are fantastic! As was the flaming dessert! Very yummo!

Decent Mexican food, nicely priced margaritas, friendly staff and a delightful stuffed coyote named Pedro that greets you upon entry. Ordering a combo platter makes me about as basic and lame as it gets, but I thought it was pretty good. I will try something more adventurous on the next visit. Perhaps the hot dog platter that my daughter enjoyed from the Little Coyotes menu. Now that’s AUTHENTIC Mexican! BTW, a MUCH better option than Panchos & Gringos.

This is one of our favorite mexican restaurants in the area. We frequent it often. Standard order is the fajitas. The food quality is good and the menu is rather extensive. We had one experience with take out where an entrée was forgotten. Frustrating but it happens, the manager drove it to our house and brought a dessert for free! Excellent customer service and turning a mistake into a positive experience. We were very impressed. Some items are a little pricey but I think it’s fair based on the fact that the food quality is good and the service is friendly. We plan on being customers for a very long time. Great job El Coyote staff!

I’ve frequented El Coyote since they opened. Its had its ups and downs; mostly in the service area. I almost dined there tonight but wisely packed up & took the party down the road. They are in the midst of another change of staff and it must be a bad night when the blender breaks in a Mexican restaurant. Nonetheless we were marrooned on the front patio with 3 of 4 drinks & no info on when #4 was coming. No guacamole, no salt for the chips, no plates and no sight of our waiter for over 45 minutes. Cancelled my drink order. That mustve put into motion someone to make my drink. Their signature drink, the Coronita($ 9) comes out and its made wrong. No acknowledgement of me cancelling the order. Never offered me something else. If I knew their blender was broke and I ordered a drink that can not be made without a blender I wouldve just ordered a beer. So rather than an upside down Coronita in a frozen Margarita they deliver two glasses of liquid to me. If they were to make it a true Coronita the beer wouldve sat upside down in the crushed ice of a tequila laced margarita. Without crushed ice you just got two glasses of liquid. So, so much time wasted on an incomplete round of drinks that we didn’t want to eat here any longer. No problem, no one had taken our order anyway. I expressed my displeasure to the owner who looked less than interested to hear it. This is not the first time I’ve witnessed a failure to complete a service here. There were others eating outside who looked equally pissed tonight. The management & waitstaff were not apologetic or gracious about the delays. If anything they were defensive. I can’t say I will miss the garrish décor; your host, «Pedro», a taxidermied wolf. This will be the end of the road for El Coyote.

I went to El Coyote for the first time after a conversation with my brother. Just to let you know what my mind set was like we were having a discussion about El Coyote vs my childhood favorite Pancho’s and Gringo’s up the street. I have a soft spot for P & G. Before I get to the food this place has a few other things going for it: It is bigger than it looks(plenty of seating), staff is friendly and efficient, bar is separated from the dining room, they have outdoor seating and the bar seems to have a huge selection of tequila. I suspect that when it comes to the food anyone who grew up within 1000 miles of Mexico would not consider this muy authenico. The food was not bad, most of our party considered the food temp a little luke warm. They offered plantains as an option instead of rice and beans which was nice for a change. They had the staples of Mexican beer and margaritas. After dinner they brought about some complimentary mulled wine type drink which was nice. We had a birthday cake waiting back home so we didn’t have desert but the list looked like it had all the basics. I would recommend this place as a good spot to get together with a crowd or bring kids. Not a bad place at all but really in terms of more authentic Mexican I would go to Pancho’s tacos in Danbury.

Hands down the BEST Mexican food in the area! Everything is homemade and fresh. I’ve been here several times and have never been disappointed by the food in any way. The seafood dishes I’ve had have all been wonderful, as have the more traditional Mexican fare such as the taquitas and chimichangas. Their table-side guacamole is made to order and seasoned any way you’d like. Even the side dishes, rice and beans, plantains, etc… are really good! The service has always been very good and the signature Lime Boat Margaritas are excellent. We really need to come here more often!

Very impressed with my first visit. Came on a Tuesday night and the place was spotless. Décor is bright, colorful, and music is just perfect in tone and volume. Pedro the howling coyote made me smileThe service was attentive and speedy, and food was very tasty. Guacamole was excellent. Definitely coming back again!
