1st ever Unilocal review! Food is ok, service sucked. Waiters are rude and inattentive. I bought a Groupon for this place, $ 15 for $ 30 worth of food. The Groupon stated no specifics or limitations. My first visit, I went with a group of friends, they told us we couldn’t use the Groupon for the lunch menu(only dinner) and it was 1 Groupon per table. So since we were there already we decided to stay, during the bill a male employee pressured my friend into giving extra tip after we just tipped him 18%. Within the same week, I returned during the dinner session, where I was told I couldn’t use my Groupon for the dinner menu. I stated I was there just a few days ago, and was told the Groupon was for dinner session. To save myself from confrontation, I eventually ordered from the regular menu and paid with my groupon. I paid the remaining balance in cash. When I was 1 step away from the 1st floor door, the lady who handle my bill screamed from the top of the stairs telling me I was 15 cent short. Pretty pathetic. The place is very small, it’s on the 2nd floor, about 40 persons capacity at best. I really felt the whole time the staff were being very inattentive and seemed like they didn’t want us sitting for more than the average consumption time of the meal.

The Saku was good. The treatment toward my colleague and I was not so nice. Had a voucher and was their on the last day of the voucher but they would not honor it. The view is nice by the window.

This place deserves more than 3.5 stars. The Ramen is really good. The salad and gyoza are very tasty too. Would completely recommend for anyone living in and around Brooklyn.

I’ve been here about 10 times(maybe more?). Great lunch specials(my usual: 10 pieces sashimi, rice, 4 pieces of california roll, miso soup, salad, diet coke coming in at around $ 12). Seating is somewhat limited but nice and great for people watching on the street below. They do accommodate groups of 10 – 12 even in their small space, which is nice of them.

I walked in one night looking for good ramen only to find myself in an empty restaurant. I had trouble navigating the 5 or 6 different menus and eventually had to have the server point out where it was on the menu. The sign outside had ramen prices at $ 8 or $ 9 however inside ramen offerings where priced $ 14-$ 16 That was disappointing. Also, no ice in my water. Just lukewarm water. It seemed as if they where blasting a Michael Jackson CD, one MJ song after another. It that why this place is called«ANI» sushi? Is this a Michael Jackson themed sushi restaurant?! If I had known that I probably wouldn’t have come. The server was very sweet and nice. Food came quite quick, but I was the only customer, so… I order the pork belly ramen which I found lacking seasoning and not warm enough. I adjusted the salt level with the table soy sauce. They get two stars for kind service, but the food? Meh.

Decided to experience a restaurant near me this evening… 1. Nice view 2. Delicately crunchy, airy soft shell crab with light ponzu sauce — 3. Baked crab roll — 4. Yellow-tail Sashimi 5. Pickled ginger was tender and crunchy Nice — not awesome. 1. Soft-shell Crab was less than a single crab and appetizer sized; this was not noted on menu. It was delicious, but not worth the asking price. 2. Baked crab roll — had a Shrimp tail peeking out one end… Booo! 3. Yellow-Tail Sashimi was nice & tender. 4. Wasabi — a bit watery. Servers were friendly and attentive without being intrusive.

Went one time about two months ago. Walked upstairs around 4:30PM, it was still kind of bright outside since it was September. There was a family already sitting down and the sushi bar area was empty. The staff just stood there and looked at me like I came in to make a blood sacrifice! There was no greeting but just blank stares. I asked if they were open and one said yes but hesitantly showed me to the sushi bar seat. When considering that the staff was caught so unawares by me and was just making it like I was a bother… and THEN to add the now creeping in doubts of the fish quality… I just turned around and left to go somewhere else. If I’m THAT much of a bother then why waste my time and money?

This big boss roll and rock shrimp tempura are amazing. Great atmosphere and location!

I took one bite of their ramen, and it made me physically ill. They refused to refund me. There is absolutely no reason for this place to stay open. UPDATE: Thanks for continually pretending to not be able to hear me. I’m filing a food safety complaint with the city. Good Luck.

I went here for lunch. They have a pretty good lunch special. 10.95 for 2 or 3 rolls depending what you order. Also your typical lunch boxes, warm meals etc. I noticed that they also serve Ramen. Ill have to try that next time. I had 3 sushi rolls. The spicy tuna, spicy salmon and a Mr. Tommy roll. The spicy tuna was good, but not the best I’ve had. The spicy salmon was tasty. My favorite was the Mr. Tommy. It was delicious. I will definitely be back for that. Overall a good meal. Especially for the lunch special. I must also mention the layout. It was very nice. I really liked that most of the seating faced the big windows that overlook the street. The seating was almost stadium style. Very cool.

Never written a review for anything and this was so bad I was compelled to write one. I ordered a piece of uni sushi and scallop sushi, and the 911 Roll. Delivery– The delivery man did not speak English well enough to understand my request to bring the food to my hotel room where I’m babysitting(also included the request in my special comments on Seamless.) Can’t leave the kids and it took 20 minutes and a security guard to get him from the lobby to the 5th floor after multiple calls back and forth. The food– This is coming from someone who is rather sushi-spoiled as I live next door to a 5 star sushi restaurant that gets their fish from Japan/Santa Barbara/Maine. I’ve tolerated my fair share of mediocre sushi, and this is way worse than even grocery store pre-packaged sushi. Scallop– A mess of what looks like spicy scallop disaster(did not order the spicy scallop, I ordered the bay scallop.) The taste was not redeeming– flavorless and clearly not fresh. Uni– I can’t even. I know it’s a risk getting uni for 4.50 a piece,(SB and Maine is typically $ 8 and Hokkaido from Japan is $ 12)… But this discolored slimy slop is offensive. Inedible :( 911 Roll– Supposed to be spicy tuna with cucumber, and avocado on top. Thought it was a safe bet but the tuna is a light shade of pink that looks more like salmon than any tuna I’ve ever seen. Tastes like a general sour fishiness? The avocado on top is clearly not fresh as it has the little black spots on top and had already started to brown upon arrival. Everything was a weirdly warm temperature and had a funky after taste. I wish I could give more than 1 star but the best part of this meal was the soy sauce.

Totally underrated sushi spot. I remember the previous spot being Oh My Pasta and I felt huge remorse when it went out of business and Ani Sushi took over. Probably came here at least 5x and each time the drinks, apps, & speciality rolls would be amazing. Not bad for a local not super high end sushi spot. Better than pzu or any of the wannabe sushi spots around the area.

Maybe I like this place since its the only part of Downtown Brooklyn that has edible food. Or maybe it’s just the incredible lunch value. They have a choose two lunch special that comes with a California roll, salad and soup. You can pick one out of the 10 selections from chicken or beef teriyaki, sushi, sashimi, salmon teriyaki among some choices for 8.95. Pick two for 10.95. Some of these selections have a star next to it which means it’s a dollar extra. It’s not bad. Sashimi is a bit weird. They sear things and sauce the hell out of it. It’s not terrible for the amount of food you get.

I was nearby to Ani Sushi Bar because of jury duty. I was looking for lunch and ended up on Montague Street. I felt like sushi today and used Unilocal to find Ani. At first glance from outside, I liked the way Ani was up higher on the second floor with huge windows. The entrance was not easy to find. If not for the menu board, I would have not found the correct entrance. The ground floor entrance looks like a residential entrance more than a restaurant entrance. I wasn’t even sure if I was at the correct place until I went up to the second floor, very odd. I could either sit at the back terrace, inside in the center or near the windows where all the tables face the window. I totally chose to sit at a table facing the windows. I had a second floor view of Montague Street. That was the best part of going to Ani today. Unfortunately I liked the view much better than the food. The tables near the window are bleacher style. stadium style. Actually, the tables by the window are good for people who are dining alone. If you go with others, you’ll be sitting side by side because of the way the tables are built with you looking out the window. Kinda odd but the view is awesome. I ordered the lunch special for $ 10.95 where I got to choose 3 rolls from«section B» of the menu. I chose 2 salmon skin rolls and a spicy tuna roll. I wish I had more spicy tuna roll than the 2 salmon skin rolls. It was not the best I had but I didn’t expect much at $ 10.95. It came with a miso soup that was also not that great and with the Unilocal check-in I got a basket of edamame. At least it was a lot of food for $ 10.95. If I ever come back here… I would try the other rolls instead of the salmon skin roll but there is too many other restaurants in the area to try. There is no real reason for me to come back to Ani. other than the view. My jury duty lunch adventures continue…

Lapin and I read great reviews about this place and thought it would be a good choice for Saturday’s night dinner. Boy, were we wrong. The restaurant is on the second floor and the signs were a bit obscure to navigate which building we had to go up to reach the restaurant. Two flights up, we were hoping this place was worth the trip. The décor was a cute modern theme with blue lights. We were able to get a seat pretty quickly as the restaurant wasn’t very packed. There was another couple on the other side of the restaurant. The servers took our order efficiently and were polite but towards the end the service just fell off. We had to remind them to refill our water, take away our plates and bring the check. Which brings me another point, Lapin and I ordered several small dishes between the two of us but they bought one item at each time. For example, I would get my miso soup and Lapin would be watching me eat while he would get his app would arrive 10 minutes later and then I would have to wait until he finishes before they bring us something else. Lapin ordered the crunch roll which was tasty. The description was a bit deceptive(inside shrimp tempura, crab salad, avocado, cucumber topped with crunch and sweet soy sauce). Only the outer two pieces actually had shrimp pieces while the other 6 pieces were just a regular California roll. I should mention, the couple I mentioned prior, they ordered a salmon roll and waitress gave us their roll and she looked confused when we tried explaining that isn’t what we ordered. Pet peeve of mines is she just took the roll back and gave it to the correct table. If I saw someone doing that to MY order, I would be livid. Lapin also ordered these Japanese sausages which tasted exactly like regular hotdogs but were three little Vienna sausages. He also got something called H.S.T, which was just foul tasting. It was cold and tasted absolutely disgusting… don’t even get me started how it looked. I ordered the chicken teriyaki with chicken karake. My order came with a miso soup and a salad which were okay. The chicken teriyaki was meh(mostly because it was a bit cold) and chicken karake was flavorful except I couldn’t eat it because it had bones. But, Lapin ate it and enjoyed it. The potsticker it came with was cold in the middle like they didn’t properly thawed it before steaming it or either that it was left around until they finally bought it over. Ani sushi isn’t very expensive but it also wasn’t very good. Perhaps, we went on a off day but I am not willing to try again. FYI — if you post reviews, photos and do check ins, they offer discounts… but we didn’t take advantage of this as we wanted to leave ASAP.

Small space located up two flights of stairs. I loved the décor and seating, which varied in height. You can either sit closer to the windows, which is designed for average and shorter people. Standing at 6’0, it would not have been suitable for me. Then there’s seating for taller folks similar to sitting on a bench and regular chair. Nice clean look with the white and wooden contrast. I ordered the crispy chicken salad(breaded chicken salad with creamy sesame dressing also came with shredded beets and avocado slices) for $ 9. Absolutely delicious! Great customer service. Bathroom is also small with the same décor theme. Ladies, the lighting is not properly angled for you to check your face in the mirror.

We’ve been going here pretty often for work lunches – maybe once every three weeks or so. The food is pretty solid, especially for sushi in Brooklyn Heights, but the service is beyond horrendous. The first time we went there, they took our order and forgot about us. For lunch, the entire meal took almost two hours. Now, we’ve learned that we actually have to ask for the check when they bring out the food we ordered. I like Ani Sushi… the food is good(maybe even 4 stars) but I cannot come close to giving them five. Definitely not with that service. Still on the lookout for the sushi place that has it all!

Both eel and forbidden rice costs extra now? Eel roll not included in the roll combos? +$ 4.50 for forbidden rice substitution? Please Ani, I still like you as my weekend sushi joint, but be a bit more reasonable!!! Just adding eel rolls back onto the lunch combination will result in me ordering from you guys weekly again…

This review is for some of the updates they’ve had here since I last reviewed. My review stays the same bc they added some great items onto their menu but their ramen leaves something to be desired. So first I would like to review one of their new lunch specials I tried: Yaki ramen lunch special. Which, despite the name, is not actually ramen. It’s more like stir fry noodles. But it’s delicious. And for a lunch special is SOOO much food! You get the noodles with veggie dumplings(dumplings are just okay), salad, and edamame. A+ Ani! However came back to try the ramen today and it’s just alright. I don’t know how to explain why I didn’t like it but it just needed so much more flavor. It tasted like there really wasn’t much to the broth but that there wasn’t enough to make up for that with everything else. I got the Chicken Ramen and the chicken was pretty much just rotisserie chicken which I thought was odd and disappointing. There’s much better ramen down on Bond at Ganso. It’s a huge bowl though! I usually scarf down a whole bowl of ramen easy peasy but I only got through half of this one. I also tried their new pork belly bun and that was also just okay. I enjoyed them but the«spicy mayo» was no where near spicy and I’m sensitive to that stuff. Also there was an onion ring in the bun which I’ve never seen before and thought was a little odd.

Ani has easily become my favorite sushi bar in Brooklyn heights! It’s perfect for an evening out. They have a really nice quiet atmosphere and beautiful blue lighting. There is a big picturesque window that lets you see out to Montague St. It’s gorgeous! The food is amazing!!! I am still trying to figure out how they have it come out so quickly and still manage to have it taste like someone took hours to make it. The sushi is delicious I have yet to try a roll that me and my boyfriend don’t fight over… I had salmon collar for the first time here and when I tell you I was literally sucking the bones!!! It was delicious just a squeeze of lime and it was the most perfect salmon I’ve eaten at a restaurant in a long time. The service here is also always great. Our service is always quick and they always check in on you a few times during the meal. I usually come with a groupon and it’s never a problem. However this place would get my business without a groupon. It’s really worth trying.
