To the other reviewer, Carrah J. of Montclair NJ, I was sitting at the bar the whole time you came and went. The barista was most certainly not a jerk. He merely told you(in a polite manner I might add) that there is a $ 6 minimum for credit card charges. I guess that’s something you did not want to hear. And to another reviewer claiming it’s an «illegal rule.» The law actually says that all merchants are *legally* able to impose a minimum for credit card up to $ 10. I think $ 6 minimum is more than fair. Small businesses can’t afford to charge every small thing coz the transaction fee eats into their profits. I know we are in NYC and it’s all about convenience but isn’t it also your responsibility to make sure you don’t run out of just $ 3?(the price for the americano you ordered) To all other people, Beaner Bar is a wonderfully unique little coffee shop serving mexican coffee. The décor is super cute and each time I visited, all the baristas are nice and easy to talk to.

Crap coffee and they have a minimum for card at a coffee bar WTF! So I spend $ 6 on nasty coffee that I threw away. And the barista was a jerk, not just to me but also to the other person in there. We actually had a conversation on street about the shit coffee and how rude the barista was. Iced coffee was particularly horrible. Save your money!

This place has plenty of character and the service is excellent. The baristas were totally nice guys. There’s good competition all over this neighborhood, but I’ll be back, BB

Great little stop in Brooklyn! The Mexican hot chocolate was delicious — not too rich, not too spicy. Small shop, but has a nice cozy vibe to it. Can’t wait to try more things whenever I’m in town. Having just moved to DC from NC, I love seeing Counter Culture Coffee in big city coffee shops but this place is a keeper regardless. The NC nostalgia is an added bonus.

Super good tamales. I recommend the Mexican mocha. Everyone should stop by if they’re ever visiting NYC. A gem for sure.

Dense, spicy chocolate drink was great. Hopefully they will have Champurrado soon, till then the Oscar de la Soya and El Chicano will suffice just fine. Absolutely delicious and authentic taste! Avi M.

$ 8 credit card minimum. At a COFFEE shop. So if you want a latte and have no cash, you need to buy $ 4.25 worth of stuff you don’t need/want. Worse their little sign proclaiming this illegal rule is not next to the register, so you’ve likely ordered before you ever notice it. But what made me write this review is the snarky person behind the counter, who rather than trying to be helpful, just have me attitude. She suggested I not buy my coffee, so that’s what I did. I walked out and will never walk in again.

Great little coffee shop with a really cute interior. We came in the morning but it looks like they have some Mexican snacks too which I would go back for next time I am in the area. Great baristas!

I love this place — it’s not too far from where I live in Bushwick and on a really interesting block. The coffee is wonderful — haven’t branched out into the hot chocolate yet but I expect to before long — and the people who work there are incredibly nice and welcoming. Excellent homemade pop-tart too.

Tried the trago azteca, the Yerba mate chai latte and a chocolate dipped peanut butter coffee. The trago azteca was a rich, spicy, chocolatey espresso. It was very smooth and contained all the Mexican hot chocolate goodness with the deliciousness of a smooth espresso. The Yerba mate was rich and creamy with just the right blend of spices. A great coffee alternative. The peanut butter cookie was everything a peanut butter cookie should be. Very, ahem, peanut buttery and crumbly. A perfect balance to the drinks.

I come here mostly because it is different than other coffee shops in the area. The décor is very cute and cozy. The staff are friendly and helpful. My problem with it is the drinks. The coffee is just decent and the Mexican hot chocolate was watery and not chocolatey enough. There also isn’t a lot of room inside so it’s hard to find a place to sit in the winter. Definitely not my favorite place but not the worst.

Quaint little spot. After reading reviews and craving a delicious, hot mocha, I stopped by to grab a Mexican Mocha to go. Deee-lish! Nice and rich. Not too sweet. I’m looking forward to going back and trying some tamales and another hot beverage off the menu.

On a weekday morning in August, I missed my bus stop got off a couple stops later and walked across the street to catch the bus going in the opposite direction. I came across Beaner Bar and thought I’d grab a Mexican Mocha to jump start my alertness. It was a big day for me, on the way to start a new contract. I bought the coffee, missed the bus going back down, and managed to spill the coffee down my pant leg in the process. After rinsing off some of the humiliation in the men’s room, I grabbed paper towels to clean the spill, left the bathroom, and was greeted with a new cup of coffee and a dry floor. At that moment I promised myself to share my gratitude online when I had the chance. Thanks guys.

Mexican mocha, I was on a mission and had to try one for myself. Beaner Bar is a unique little place with unusual décor. They had a variety of baked treats. I’ll have to try the tamales next time cause I hear they are the best. I was handed my Mexican mocha and it looked perfect. It was delicious. Had just the right amount of spice. Great way to start my Sunday morning.

So I go in for my am quadruple Americano, and Rudy is there, and we start bs’ing. He thinks I live in Long Island City, and I tell him«no», I live a few blocks from Beaner Bar, and then I tell him«But if I did live in Long Island City, I’d still come to WillyB every am ’cause that’s how good the coffee is here».

Thanks guys for making us the stranger feel welcome, with a gentle and down to earth warmth. You have a great home feel, filled with color, flavor and personality. The coffee menu is a fun play on words with beautiful quality ingredient combinations, the white & dark chocolate and espresso with a hint of spice(El Chicano), the chai latte with espresso(Mari-a-chai). The Counter Culture coffee, hand ground chocolate beans(per a note on the menu) make a real difference. And if you are in need of a little comfort food, definitely order the awesome tamales. Beaner Bar could easily become your local within a visit or two.

One of the friendliest«Hipster» coffeeshops in Williamsburg. The staff girls are very cute and I saw that they greet frequent customers by their name and with a smile. This makes such a comfortable atmosphere in customer’s point of view. The interior is very Mexico-esque(is that even a word? lol) They have creative and artistic items on sale as well. Their drink menu consists of beverages that I’ve never heard of before ranging from Mexican Mocha, El Chicano, Dirty Chong, Hempaccino, Trago Azteca, Mari-a-Chai, Calavera, etc just to name a few… I got the Mexican Moccha which was VERY good! Spicy, Creamy, and overall great coffee! I will return to try the Hempaccino as well as the Dirty Chong(Espresso, Hemp Milk, and White Chocolate) and Yerba Matte Latte. Oh yeah, and the bar seats by the window has electric outlets just in case you need to re-charge your iphones and there are benches right outside the place for those that need to smoke or want to sit outside on a nice day. Prices may seem pricey(DUH, you’re in Hipsterville) but it’s sooo worth it and I give them kudos for originality. **RESTROOMS available**
