We have been back over and over again this place is consistent and the hospitality is amazing. The owner makes you feel like you’re in his house. I liked mostly everything the food was great. I recommend the Entraña Skirt steak with pasta and tres leche. Ceviche is awesome and so where the Anticuchos

Chimu is a warm inviting restaurant with attentive and friendly staff. I had dinner there last night on a date. We started off with two Pisco’s and fried calamari for appetizer. It was delicious and served with a red onion lime juice sauce. It was very delicious and flavorfull. My date ordered the Camarones con aji and I had the red spanner ceviche. Unfortunately, there was no aji/garlic with the shrimp and the sauce was quite lacking and the mashed potato was bland. We sent it back but they just added sliced garlic to it which didn’t help. We both have had this dish at other restaurants and it was just oily sauce with bland shrimp. On the opposite spectrum the ceviche was excellent and delicious and I am looking forward to having it again. Next time I want to try the skirt steak with pesto pasta. Will be back for a second.

I’m not particularly crazy about trying new cuisines but I decided to give this place a shot after the boyfriend raved about them. Swung by with him this past MLK Monday night and got seated immediately. Dim restaurant, great service and everything was clean. I ordered the Tallarin Verde W/Skirt Steak and had no regrets. Basil pasta was great but their skirt steak was impeccable. Asked for the skirt steak to be medium rare and it definitely came out perfectly medium rare(which is a surprise because other places will end up giving you a medium well.) Potatoes were a little bland for my taste but loved it none the less. Sangria here was pretty good too. If I’m ever around, I definitely would come back. Their steak is definitely worth the trip. **EDIT, my plate was only $ 18(I think, definitely under $ 20). Totallllllllly worth the price!!!

This is hands down my favorite Peruvian spot. When I come here I always get the skirt steak with basil pasta. It is sooooooo good, I’m drooling thinking about it. Additionally, the waiters are extremely friendly and the atmosphere has a very homey vibe. I always recommend this place to all my friends. Love love love!

Love this place! Been here twice and food and service were wonderful both times. The portions are big enough to satisfy a big eater like myself, and the staff is attentive and nice. The chaufa de mariscos is delicious, and the whole fried snapper is an ENORMOUS meal — I was pleasantly surprised :). I will definitely return even though it is out of my way. Tips: 1) slightly small and can become cramped 2) they don’t take AMEX.

Chimu you are a hidden gem. It was girls night out and one of my girlfriends recommend this place. A Saturday night in this area will be crowded but just be patient. Yes it’s a small place and you will be bumped so just be humble. I started with the stuffed avocado with shrimp. Wow, I could of ordered 2 more but so many other dishes looked tempting. For the main course I truly enjoyed the fried seafood. Plenty of food. Now my other friend had the Paella dish which looked good and was enough for 2. This place is such a cool spot. I will definitely be back.

Very tasty! I had the aji de gallina and I really enjoyed it. The sish kind of reminded me of thai foos which I love. Our waitress was attentive and sweet. She refilled our glasses from our sangria pitcher when they started going low. We had a party of 4 and must have been at our table for 3 hours but never once felt rushed to leave. My sister and brother in law enjoyed the seafood paella and surf and turf dish. My BF enjoyed the ceviche and he’s usually a tough critic. For dessert the fried donut was nice and warm and delcious. The décor is pretty and this place has a cozy intimate feel. It’s December so we weren’t outside but I heard the outdoor seating in the backyard is really nicely decorated. I look forward to experiencing it in the summer. Overall I definitely reccommend.

My boyfriend and I came here for first time tonight. First, we walked in and were seated immediately which is great and surprising because the restaurant was pretty full. We chose this place because we were looking for good steak in the area and our wish came true. The skirt steak was cooked perfectly(medium-rare) exactly how we ordered it. It was soft and juicy. We tried the beef hearts which was also delicious. The waitress, Alicia, is the best! She was super helpful, friendly and attentive. The other staff members that I spoke with are nice as well. Also, the restaurant itself is a very cute place. Highly recommend and look forward to coming back again.

Looking for something yummy to eat and wind down for a late dinner. Walked in shortly after 9pm, we order a ceviche mixto and the skirt steak with green spaghetti. We also ordered pisco sour, the drinks came right away. Food took about 15 minutes, but when the food came OMG. The basil spaghetti with parmesan cheese and skirt steak was delicious. the spaghetti 1were just done right, not too much cheese but just enough. The skirt steak I requested to be cooked medium, very tasty1and it was a nice size of protein. The ceviche seem overly spicy, but i think what hhappened was that all the heat was sitting right on top, on the first bite of ceviche my mouth was on fire. I think they forgot to mix the ceviche to even out the heat. We end up ordering just a side of yellow rice to have it with the ceviche. The pisco sour was good but a bit on the sweet side. Would have liked to taste more of the lime juice. Overall a good dinner, the staff is relaxed. Service is not tremendously attentive, the servers lack a bit of attentiveness. The bill was $ 60 plus 15% tip to close it at $ 69. By far this is the best Peruvian food restaurant as far as i am concerned. A bit on the expensive side but than again I had steak and seafood, so we all have to pay the price.

Sigh. I’ve had his restaurant in my bookmark list for a while and since it had such great reviews I wanted to try it out since i love Peruvian good and convinced my friend to come along since his parents own one. Service was basically non existent. We didn’t know who was our waiter or waitress and it took forever to be given menus or water. we constantly had to flag down the water guy. Our waitress seemed confused and not confident I ordered some blue sky martini and my friend ordered the classic Peruvian drink with a twist passion fruit pisco sour. I enjoyed my drink but felt it could have been stronger. We decided to share two things so we got the ceviche mixto which I found a little too acidic in my taste and much prefer el anzuelo’s ceviche instead but overall it wasn’t bad just ok. They need better playing and there was a ridiculous amount of onions that were not cut to consistency at all. We then shared the causa rellena with chicken which I found was AMAZING!!! A little heavy on the mayo but oh so good. This dish bumped them up from my Original 2 star review. Overall it was ok but if I want Peruvian food I’ll stick with el anzuelo!

I came here at 3:30 for an early dinner. I was in the mood for lobster so I had the surf and turf. The host was very nice and took his time to talk about some other dishes they had. The green sauce they give you with your meal is absolutely delicious. Tasty and spicy. It went very well with my filet mignon. The mignon was marinated and really didn’t need any sauce, but I just love the green sauce and like to add it to everything. The filet was ultra tender and delicious. I probably could have cut it with a butter knife. The lobster was also very good. It was a nice amount. There was also basil pasta, but I couldn’t fit it all. The only problem was, I waited 45 minutes for the food and I got there before the rush, so it should not have taken that long.

My taste buds approved! An awesome spot for Peruvian cuisine. The food is delicious and comes in big enough portions for sharing. For starters, I had the half avocado with shrimp. It was very palatable. I highly recommend this. If anything, this may be why I go back next time. As an entrée, I had the Peruvian rice with a mix of seafood(forgot the name) and it was delicious as well; the rice was pleasantly flavorful. Mixed in with the pasty green pepper sauce, it’s even better. I would recommend this dish to be shared among two — unless, unlike me, you have a huge appetite. Next time, I’ll have to try the lobster the patron next to our table was having. It looked so delicious! All the ingredients used seemed to be really fresh. The smell upon entering the restaurant alone enhanced my hunger. :D The hostesses were nice and friendly. Interior is appealing. I say check it out!

Had the ceviche mixto and empanadas. Basil Spaghetti with skirt steak was the winner of the night. The seafood fried rice was my next favorite. A friend of mine got the lobster paella, which was the most overwhelming dish I’ve ever seen! It came with lobster tail, a fat sausage, chicken, and a bunch of other goodies in a fat pot. A couple of friends also got Lomo Saltado. If you’re looking for Peruvian in Williamsburg, then you’ve found your spot!

I came here with some friends and this place was poppin, it was so packed! I thought the décor was inviting and they have a pretty nice outdoor seating area. The food really had a lot of potential and honestly, I was kinda surprised that I wasn’t stupid in love with their dishes since they look so fantastico! The food: Red Sangria– The sangria was kinda a miss for me. I remember drinking the sangria thinking, is there fruit in this? I really don’t remember there being that nice sweetness that pairs with the wine, but I do remember being able to taste the alcohol. I would skip this. Red Snapper topped with seafood sauce, rice, and tostones. This was a special and I was super duper eager to try this dish since it looked fanfreakingtastic but the dish was only half good. The whole fish is a sight to behold but sadly the fish was overcooked and a tad tough. The squid was just about perfection though, these were quite possibly the most tender pieces of squid I ever had. The shrimp was cooked very nicely, but the mussels and the clams were just so so. The rice had great texture and a nice silkiness, the tostones were kinda neutral. Tallarin Verde con Skirt Steak– Spaghetti with basil sauce, walnuts, topped with a grilled steak garnished with roasted potatoes. Everyone and their mothers seem to order this dish. The flavor of the steak was great, but sadly the steak was chewy. The flavor of the pesto was nice but the spaghetti sits in your stomach like a brick, so go light on the spaghetti. Entrana– Grilled skirt steak, choice of rice and beans or french fries or salad. The grilled skirt steak is the same dish as above and had really nice flavor but also had an unpleasant chewiness to it. Boooooo. Or in this case, moooooo.

I «discovered» this Brooklyn spot scrolling through Unilocal and read the reviews prior to dining. Once seated, your table is offered fried corn kernels and a spicy green sauce called aji verde. My appetite was whet to try their Tallarin Verde with Skirt Steak – it’s spaghetti covered basil sauce and topped with a grilled steak, garnished with crispy potatoes. Yes, starch overload but YUM! Skirt steaks are not my favorite cut, but this piece was well marinated and seasoned. If you want to kick it up a notch, drown it in the aji verde and your mouth will dance as you chew. The starchy meal was balanced off with the avocado salad which appeared small for $ 10 but was enough for two people to share. We ordered sangria wich was okay but decided it needed a shot of Pisco(Peruvian Rum) and three glasses later, everything was funny! I wasn’t impressed with their tres leches cake – definitely bakery ordered and not made on the premise. You can totally skip it or go to Rosarito’s on Wythe and have some amazing cuatro de leches. All in all, I like this Brooklyn haunt and feel it ties well with Pio Pio at half the price. ¡Disfrute de su comida!(Enjoy your meal!)

A solid 4 stars. My boyfriend and I got the basil pasta with skirt steak($ 18.95). And let me tell you — ITWASGOOD! The pasta was absolutely delicious and I was pleasantly surprised to taste some cheese as well! My steak was also very yummy(cooked medium rare), but it was a bit too chewy for my liking. We also ordered empanadas($ 3.95 each). Chicken for me, and need for him. I personally thought mine was too bland, but I really liked the beef empanadas as it was a lot more flavorful! Red wine sangria($ 7) was also very yummy and decently strong — no complaints there!

CHIMUUUU! Oh-my-God! The food is AMAZING. I’ve had TACUTACU — CEVICHE — LOMOSALTADO — AJIDEPOLLO — ARROZMIXTODECAMARONES along with my sangria which was very sweet and to the point I’ve loved everything but the ceviche. Coming from someone who was born in Peru and knows how real ceviche tastes like. This plate doesn’t cut it for me. They give you HUGE chunks of the fish, which that’s not how ceviche is cut. The décor is really really nice! but the tables and chairs are all cramped together and you can’t really walk. To wait you have to either wait outside or move close to the bar. This place is always packed every time I come here, which is a good thing but the wait is HELLALONG and they don’t take reservations. I feel like it’s a place to come with your friends and/or boyfriend not family because the music is so loud and everyone is talking loud and having drinks.

Friendly staff, great food, the place gets packed really early. Came here for my husbands birthday. they dont take reservations, but i tried anyways due to my large party. They were nice and made an exception but was told to be on time. Everyone arrived around 645 and we were promptly seated. There were already people waiting for tables. Good indication that the food is awesome. Everyone pretty much got the specials. 4 of us got the lobster paella which was 57 dollars. The portions were huge and could feed about 4 people. Everyone who ordered this said it was good and all got doggy bags to go(2 huge and heavy containers). 3 of us got the red snapper(fried whole fish) special. It came with fried plantains and mixed seafood on top of it. Flavor and gravy was delicious, but the fish was not that fresh. 2 of us got the steak with basil pasta. One of them is an elite Unilocaler. She loved this place and recommended the steak with basil pasta. It was quite possibly the best pasta i had in a longggggg while. ALWAYSTRUSTANELITE UnilocalER. I REGRETNOTGETTINGWHATSHERECOMMENDED. lesson learned, will def be coming back and order the steak with basil pasta. it was full of refreshing flavor and cheesy and cooked to perfection. Im drooling just thinking about it.

EXTREMELY nice service. Sangria is house made on the spot. All is great except… I’m a Caribbean Hispanic. I enjoy a different kind of seasoning than South America. Will return for the great service and to continue tasting cultural dishes from different countries. Chimu is all Peruvian. Perhaps one day I’ll find a Peruvian meal I like. Tried the Peruvian chicken fried rice and lomo salteado. Oh and had a piece of the birthday cake. The birthday cake was THEBEST!
