Hands down, one of the most authentic and well priced tapas in the city. There is nothing on the menu I have eaten that was less than delicious. Extra points for having Caldo Gallego. The servers are always courteous and it’s not ever packed so you never feel rushed.

Great Tapas. Had the Pulpo(Octopus), Albondigas(Meatballs) and few other tapas dishes, along with a nice bottle of Tempranillo and a glass of their homemade Sangria(which was excellent). We purchased a coupon from Unilocal($ 40 for $ 20), and was totally worth it. Overall my wife and I left very satisfied.

Excellent food! Service was great! Waiter kept making sure we were ok. Not a long wait food. Stuffed lobster was to die for

I had the Bistec Alegria, and it was excellent! Perfectly cooked and very flavorful. Pollo Al Ajillo was also very good. We also had some red sangria which was also very nice. Excellent food and atmosphere. Will definitely be going back!

Never get the chicken entrée with garlic sauce – no, no, no, no. I got my dinner delivered instead of eating a bunch of tapas at the restaurant, which I know now is a terrible mistake. The chicken looked boiled. The sauce was a tasteless watery gravy with a slight hint of chicken broth. There were lots of chunks of garlic(also look like they had been boiled in the water/gravy) in it but I couldn’t taste them in the dish unless I bit into it. The rice was undercooked. Did I mention there was no seasoning or flavor whatsoever? Not even salt!!! I tried to compensate by adding spices in afterwards but I couldn’t save it. I had to throw it out and it made me sad. The delivery was fast.

One of my favorite restaurants!!! We always get the same thing when I go with my friends/family: 1.) Gambas al ajillo 2.) Calamares frito 3.) Pechuga rellena de queso y espinaca 4.) Bistec alegria 5.) Several pitchers of sangria red and/or white. You will want to lick your plate after you’re done. Everything is delicious, beautiful presentation, and wonderful service. The ambiance is very romantic. You feel transported to a far away place on this little corner in Bushwick.

Great atmosphere, amazing food at amazing prices. They had to bring us another table because me and my friend had nowhere to put all the food. We had some beers too and paid like 70 bucks with tip. Try their steak, it’s so good. I give 4 stars because our server hardly spoke any English and was unable to tell us what the foods were like. She always had to call her boss. Pretty annoying.

My husband and I stopped in here while looking at places in Brooklyn. We canceled our apartment viewing because the neighborhood was sketchy, but thought it safe enough to at least grab happy hour. Their happy hour deals are awesome. 4 – 7 every day! $ 4 wine and sangria and $ 3 beer. We split a chicken tapas — chicken over vegetables. It was the perfect size for a meal for one and only $ 8 but it was also perfect for a light meal for 2 to split. I would go here again if I were in this hood.

Ok… Call me crazy but I do extensive research before I decide to head out to a restaurant. This place was no different after reading all the great Unilocal reviews and seeing the lovely pictures we decided this was a must visit restaurant. I was able to find a groupon and we decided to head out on Valentine’s Day… The restaurant was packed! We get a seat and present our groupon and we are told it can not be used on holidays… Didn’t know Valentines Day was a holiday but oh well we are here so we decide to eat anyway. We ordered the appetizers and they are delicious. We had the octopus and the garlic shrimp. Judging from these two dishes we knew dinner was going to be great! Sadly it all went downhill from there. I wanted the lobster that was plastered all over Unilocal from other Unilocalers… And then I am told they ran out… What? How? Okay… Then I asked if I ordered the paella would it come with lobster? And shockingly the waiter said yes… I thought they ran out? This should have let me know they were definitely not serving fresh lobster. The tasteless and microwave cooked entrees reach the table after what seemed like an eternity and I honestly barely ate mine. I promise you they stuck those frozen lobster tails that adorned my paella in the microwave. Our server was pretty much non existent… Water glasses not filled, had to chase him down after multiple requests for the check… We came back a month later to use our groupon on a very uneventful night and once again the tapas were great the entrees not so much! Come for tapas but never order the food… It’s a waste of money and you will be sadly unsatisfied.

We came here with the Unilocal coupon worth $ 40 for $ 20 since we were around the area having some drinks with friends at a party. It was worth the money because we ordered a lot of food: stuffed mushrooms, octopus a la gallega, tortilla and a seafood paella. Everything was great but specially the mushrooms! Wow, the stuffing is just unbelievable. Shrimp, scallops and crabmeat with a killing sauce. The octopus is a decent plate to share because it comes with a lot of potatoes. It’s a nice restaurant to go if you are in bushwick but obviously not worth the ride if you are going just for the food.

This is my fourth or fifth time coming here since it first opened and I have to say el mio cid never fails. The only thing is that nobody is ever here! Unilocalers, get your butts over here because it’s always empty and an establishment like this deserves to stay open. Maybe it’s not«hip» enough for this area but it’s a really nice place to have a dinner date. Just had the mango sangria and shrimp. Bread is fresh and soooo good. They should make some minor changes like serving olive oil w the bread(like in Spain) and having fresh gazpacho alllll the time.

Bushwick meets Madrid. Cool Home style restaurant. Sangria kicks ass-best around. Bread is baked fresh. I ordered the paella-it wool about 30 minutes to prepare-as it usually does. Started out with scallops which were terrific and perfectly cooked. Paella was pretty good. Could have been a bit crispier. Tell them you want the paella well done. Seafood decent. But the service and vibe made up for it. I loved the general experience. I would suggest sticking with the meat and chicken and mussels. Great option in the neighborhood!

I bought a Living Social voucher for El Mio Cid, because who wouldn’t think $ 16 for $ 40 worth of Spanish tapas isn’t a good deal? There’s a cozy, authentic feel to the restaurant. I was a fan of the curtains and paintings on the walls. Our waiter was great, but our female server was terrible. She forgot our utensils and table napkins. Tried flagging someone down for a few minutes, but couldn’t get anyone’s attention because apparently watching the hockey game seemed more important. Both their sautéed octopus in tomato sauce and seared scallops with artichoke were good, but not great. But I cannot fully express my disappointment in the Paella Marinera. It was soggy and flavorless. They used old, overcooked lobster — a third of the meat was green and inedible. Unforgivable! The calamari was chewy, but the mussels and clams were perfectly fine. For $ 16, I didn’t mind. But I definitely would not pay full price for the dishes served here.

I’ve never really had a bad meal here, but nothing has blown me away either. The place is often really empty too, and kind of has a vibe like a restaurant in a small town or connected to a hotel or something. I don’t know, for me it somehow just kinda lacks charm. Service has been fabulous at times, okay others.(I live around the corner, that’s why the multiple visits) I’d probably be a little disappointed with the value had I not bought the voucher off Unilocal. It seems like this place survives off of Unilocal and groupon customers, which I think kind of says something. But it’s a good place to take your parents if they are in town, and it’s great for going with a larger group(more than 4). There is always ample room, and it’s not too loud to have conversation across a large table.

A hidden gem! We ordered so many things that I cannot even remember what I ate! The service was great and I thought the paella was a good choice. One of the best Sangrias I had!

There are some very good tapas here: tortillas are tasty, octopus are tender and fresh, and the caldo gallego is filling and hearty. And the size is good comparing to some Manhattan places. For desserts they also have many choices.

Bf and I have been curious about Buswick for a while so felt the need to come out one Saturday night date night to try a good restaurant. This one seemed to fit the bill, and they were offering a $ 20 for $ 40 deal on Unilocal which we purchased. This place is still very neighborhoody and wasn’t at all in what I perceived to be a «trending, gentrifying» part of Bushwick– the one everyone keeps harping about. Still, El Mio had its good moments but it was not comparable to other tapas joints in BK and the city. First thing we tried: the passionfruit red sangria. This was delicious! Not too sweet, still had great red wine flavor and hint of something flowery. not a lot of passionfruit. We got a half pitcher which it We then shared some good tapas– a heavily dressed apple kale dressing in manchengo. hhm,.chorizo that’s spicy, in sherry, overdressed patatas bravas(the aioli everywhere made it very soggy in places. We ordered the special Spanish meatballs but sadly we never served these — think our waitress as sweet as she was, had a language barrier and didn’t understand a lot of what was going on. They removed it from the bill, so no sweat. We wanted to order desert but passed(though the staff had heard) — they had gimmacky dessert such as a famous cream burlee which they light on fire. Bf and I shared the seafood paella which needed a ton of moiré flavor and salt. The shellfish was ample– though it just made the entire dish smell like strong seafood. It’s a big restaurant, with a big bar and nice Spanish décor– It was good to try as I wanted to explore here but i would pass if not near here. it does not come close to tapas stapes such as Tia Pol, Alta, etc

This place is great! I’ve been here a couple times and they never disappoint. It’s a small, intimate restaurant in Bushwick. I’ve never had to wait for a table which is always a plus! Went here for brunch today with my fiancé and we had a great time. When we arrived the restaurant was empty and our waiter was very attentive and even when more people started showing up he still checked up on us quite often. We did the 20 $ for 40 $ deal(available on Unilocal). The only minor bummer about this place is they don’t really have a «brunch menu» prices are the same as dinner. I’m a bottomless brunch kind of lady but honestly the prices are very reasonable here so it wasn’t a huge deal. They start you off with warm sliced bread with butter. Pretty good but nothing special. We ordered a pitcher of passion fruit sangria(24 $) it was really good! For entrees we both had the Bistec Alegria($ 17) which was sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce and steak cut fries. Yums! Great experience today like always! Will definitely return.

Came here with a gf for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed El Mio Cid! Pros: * Décor is authentic with traditional oil paintings hung all around you… feels like you’re in a remote part of Spain! * Absolutely delicious sangria– recommend the Passionfruit and Mango flavors. * The tapas/dishes at El Mio Cid are tasty and rich in flavor. The Pork Chops A La Parrilla(grilled tender marinated pork chops) are served over a platter of fresh cut potato fries. I loved the Setas Rellenas(stuffed mushrooms with shrimp, scallops and crabmeat), Almejas Rellenas(stuffed baked clams), and Gambas Al Ajillo(fresh tiger shrimp in a garlic sauce). The portions were so plentiful that I ended up taking the pork chops to go. Tips: * With any tapas place everything adds up and you end up with a huge hole in your wallet, so I’m really glad I got a Unilocal voucher($ 20 for $ 40). After sharing 3 cocktails, 1 entrée, and 3 tapas — the bill still came out to be $ 49(after voucher and including tax and tip on original price)…which is pretty expensive for lunch. Next time I would definitely get a pitcher.

For our weekly date night, my bf and I came here to eat some authentic Spanish food. I enjoyed the décor which reminded me of my grandparents’ old home with the huge paintings and the requisite life-sized portrait of a Flamenco dancer(seriously, the way they hung the portrait was stunning). We got the seafood salad appetizer which was delicious and a lot better than the ceviches I’ve tried of late. Entrees: Ordered the seafood paella(Paella Marinera) and E had the Pollo Al Ajillo(Garlic chicken). The paella was good but as always, my complaint w/this kind of paella is that the mussels hijack the dish and overshadow the rest of the seafood. My grandmother usually prepared the mussels separate from the rest of the rice and just added it after she drains them somewhere else. This allows the rest of the flavors to come through and the result is a perfect mix of marinera. E’s garlic chicken was a treat– the scent of the food plus the flavors made my mouth water. Didn’t get to try the desserts but did have some sangria. Their concoction is strong– I was buzzed after drinking ¼ of it. Service was really friendly– the waiter honored our restaurant gift certificate(thanks mom!) and he made sure we were taken care of the rest of our meal. Will definitely come back to try the rest of the menu.
