Had a lovely dinner here last night and was in heaven. We ended up over-ordering out of sheer excitement and curiosity, but that ended up not being such a bad thing. Making a reservation on the phone was a cinch and the person I spoke with was very accommodating. We were a large-ish party(6) so they sat us at the big table in back, which felt nice and private. The place is cozy but definitely not cramped, with a black-and-white art deco theme. As a large party, we were advised to choose the omakase option($ 35 chef’s choice prix-fixe) if we wanted it – it’s rumored to be very substantial — but we decided to go a la carte in the end. The wine list was great and very reasonably priced; the Little James red we got was gorgeous, tasted surprisingly of rosemary, and was only $ 30. Since the menu changes daily my advice may not be relevant at this point, but major highlights were the(regular) fried chicken(perfect texture, pretty substantial), the nanban fried chicken, Berkshire pork buns(we got the last ones — HUGE slabs of belly and plenty of buns, a total steal), and the buttered enoki mushroom — an understatement as it was essentially spaghetti-like strands of enoki slathered in butter, garlic, and parmesan, like a good rich pasta but with a teeny tiny bit less guilt(not that that should matter in this context). Because it’s really just the chef in the kitchen doing everything himself, orders come out at the rate he can make them. Most plates came out individually, but we knew that this was part of this restaurant’s experience, and were happy to savor each dish on its own. Our server was a delight, very attentive with excellent recommendations. Given all of these strong points, it was truly an excellent deal; 10 generous plates and 2 great bottles of wine among 6 people came out to $ 34/pp(tax & tip included). This is a great place to go if you want inventive(but not too fussy) cuisine and a nice, leisurely time with your companions. I will certainly be back.

I came here for Dinner on a Sunday night and the place was not busy. First off, I loved the ambiance and the décor: there were real candles lit around the dining areas and the whole place had a nice classy feel. I was surprised that all the food was very Japanese. That being said it was very good! We ordered the Crab Fried Rice, Fried Okra, Fried Shishito Peppers, Smoked Salmon Mozzerella with Brocolli Rabe, and Fried Fish. The fried fish was my least favorite, but everything else was great! I was also very impressed by our server who paid close attention to our table and did an excellent job coursing our meal. We never had to wait more than a few minutes after finishing a dish before the next one was brought out. This is a great place to bring a date or come with friends. There was even one guy working on his laptop while he ate. There are only a few things keeping me from giving a 5-star rating: 1) The chairs were not that comfortable 2) Although the food was great, nothing stood out as truly amazing. I hear the menu changes almost daily, so I might be more impressed on my next visit

What an amazing meal! Let’s cut to the chase: just go have dinner here and bring a big appetite, stop searching, just go! To elaborate, we went early evening on a Sunday, it was empty which was not a vote of confidence but we did get perfect service! The food was great and the menu changes nearly daily, check their Instagram for examples. We had: Fried Brussels sprouts and colic lower which were fantastic, shishito peppers, filet mignon, and fried poussant(young chicken). All of them were delicious! I do not leave reviews much anymore but this meal was so good I had to stop and sing their praises on my way home. Go you will be so glad you did!

This place is amazing. This is my 3rd time here and each time I am more and more pleasantly surprised about the atmosphere, the service, and of course the food. The pork buns are a must! Other then that, trust you instincts the menu is so great that anything you think sounds great, is simply is just that. The servers here are also a great knowledgeable backboard in case you are feeling a little self conscious about your choices… but seriously don’t, because everything on the menu is so good. Don’t miss out on this place now because it is about to be a hot spot in this up and coming neighborhood.

Hands down the best restaurant in the area and one of the best restaurants I’ve been to in NYC. I had the pork buns, the catch of the day, fried chicken and the duck confit. The pork bun portions are pretty big. Bigger than i’ve seen in NYC so far. The staff is very friendly as well. At the end we had a green tea fruit soup which was a mouthgasm. All I have to say is YAAAAAAAAAAASMYRTLEDINERYAAAAAS

We ordered take out. I wish they do delivery!!! My husband ordered garlic rice and steak. Delicious! Very tasty. My flank steak was good. The garlic shrimp were huge! Looked like lobster tails. Wish they had a garlic butter sauce to accompany the fresh lemon. But still very good grilled. The tomato and mozzarella was an ok appetizer. Might be better fresh out the oven and needed a tad more seasoning. The asparagus were superb wish there were more than the 5 that came with my steak. All in all, excellent food. Will definitely dine in house and order take out again. 10÷3÷15− ordered take out again. Menu changes for the good so beware! If you love something one day, it might be there the next. I ordered the fried fish sandwich and fries. The BEST fish sandwich I have ever eaten. Buttery fresh striped bass with a blue cheesy tarter sauce and a panko batter for frying. Keep it on the menu! Yummy.

Great food and décor. The service was great. I will forgive the slow kitchen due to how good everything was in the end.

Met some friends here who had been before and recommended it, and wow everything was delicious! Everything on the menu looked great, so as a group we ordered pretty much every appetizer on the menu. The food was served tapas style and it was perfect for four people. Once the first dish came out, the wait staff kept the steady stream of plates coming out one after another. Highlights for me were the sautéed spinach with bacon, the enoki mushrooms, and the branzini. We took care of any extra empty space with the hanger steak and went home fat and happy. Or we didn’t actually go home, the chef/owner was working the BBQ at a bar a couple storefronts down and we stopped off there for a few drinks and a few delicious skewers. Than we went home fat and happy.

The food was delicious! I loved the tapas style small dishes packed with a lot of flavors! Great atmosphere too! There’s also a bar next door that serves yakitori if you’re still not full after dinner there!

I only give this spot a three because it’s new and cute. I do love the set up, it’s cute and cozy. I did have a problem with it being hot it’s 97 degrees outside is the AC working. Omg

This would be place would be 4 stars if they put thought into their service. The food was great, but came out slow and had no progression/flow. My fiancé ordered the grilled oyster app and branzino for his main. I told the server in place of a main I would have two apps — sautéed chicken liver and the fig, ricotta and arugula salad. Here was the progression: 1. Fig/ricotta salad — really tasty but no arugula. I was expecting a more traditional salad. Still delish though. 2. After the salad was finished came the grilled oysters. My fiancé ate them all but said they were good. 3. After the oysters were finished the chicken livers came. They were good but over salted. There was so much salt you could feel it crunching in your mouth. 4. After the livers were finished the branzino. Then 5 min later the fries that were the side dish. Nice fish but again, so much salt it added a crunchy texture. If I hadn’t shared my food, we would only be eating one at a time. I had to sit and watch my fiancé eat at the end because of their poor progression. We were there for almost two hours watching each other eat! The tasting menu at wd~50 was three hours(and 12 courses)! Won’t be coming back to enjoy the good food because of the thoughtless service.

So this place probably deserves somewhere between 3 to 4 stars. Let me start off by saying we got some kind of shrimp dish, fried chicken, steak and asparagus. They are small dishes, like tapas, my complaint is that the dishes are not strong individual dishes even if you want them to be that. And the practical thing to do is serve them side by side so people can pick at them however they want to. Maybe not all at once but the asparagus and a meat dish and serve the shrimp separately. That was not the case last night. First they brought out the asparagus then the fried chicken and as we were eating the shrimp(on a cucumber) was brought out. So we got to taste the shrimp and chicken together if we chose to and that didn’t go well together. I guess I was looking for a certain thought and care into the presentation of the dishes depending on their tastes. The last dish was the steak which I would have Loved to eat with the asparagus. It was okay, not great — little pieces that looked like under cooked bacon. Second — the aesthetic of the restaurant is pretty cool — I felt like I was in some sort of painting. When I went to go to the bathroom someone had to point out that I needed to push a «wall» which was actually a door but there was no sign on it at all. I wonder how many times he has to direct people when they want to go to the bathroom. I suggest putting an elegant sign on that door because it just makes sense. What if it’s a crowded night and you can’t keep a lookout trying to direct everyone where to go? Overall the food selections that night(apparently the menu changes) were okay —(my favorite was the fried chicken– yum) take care in the presentation more because the dishes separately are just that and not as fun of an experience for my taste buds. And put a sign on your bathroom door!

With a menu that changes everyday, you know the food is fresh. In talking to the owner, he and the chef go to the store each morning and pickup the ingredients for that night’s menu so whether we were eating our fluke ceviche or sauteed chicken liver(a first for me) — it was all so fresh and very, very good. The small plates are well portioned, priced and most importantly… all delicious. I would love to eat any of the dishes we had again. Don’t let the name fool you, this isn’t a typical NY diner — it’s a foodie experience you don’t want to miss.

I came to NY to discover new and exciting things, and this was anything but. The food was decent, but not worthy of the un-diner like price of $ 60 per person. The food was over salted and all of the meats were treated in the same manner. Perhaps we caught the chef on an «off» night? The server didn’t seem particularly familiar with the menu or the general practices of the restaurant, and as for the super casual atmosphere? Everything is served off of and on paper plates. This practice, while easy on the kitchen, is horrible for the planet and is by no means«cute» or «rustic.» It is tacky at best and environmentally harmful at worst. I am unimpressed.

Super delicious meal for a great price! Half star off because the waitress was totally unfamiliar with the menu /ingredients, and another half star off because they forgot our fried chicken order and then reported they were all out of chicken(on a slow Wednesday night!). Otherwise everything was delicious and the stuff was sweet and helpful, the interior design is fun and whimsical. Ps they are no longer BYOB as of 2 weeks ago.

Bed Stuy is blowing up with great new spots to eat and this is one of them! The chef/owner of Myrtle Diner is Japanese and has brought some of his country’s flavors to the menu which apparently changes every night. The night we were there we had mushrooms and mussels for starters and grilled prawns, spare ribs and lamb chops for entrees. It was all amazing and served in a super casual atmosphere with friendly servers! You can get a beer for $ 5 and the éclair for dinner for $ 2 was a great way to finish a great experience! We are definitely coming back and telling our friends!

A new place to have exquisite food, for an outrageous pocket friendly price. The attention to detail both in the cuisine and in the dining atmosphere has not been overlooked. I’ve eaten there twice and can honestly say I have never been disappointed with any of the dishes I’ve ordered. The menu is always evolving with interesting combinations that enhance the experience you have with your taste buds. If you want to fall in love with food all over again I highly recommend Myrtle Diner. The service is excellent, the staff are always friendly and eager to help and the food is out of this world. I see myself eating here for very long time.
