I was disappointed with my fish and chip order. The fish was too oily and it tasted as if the cook didn’t get to thaw the fish well s enough and deep fried the fish quickly. I gave the place 2 stars because the potato latke with salmon was actually pretty good. My husband’s buttermilk chicken was not bad, but not great either. Don’t think we will come back.

Had dinner here one evening while taking a walk around my neighborhood and although I have heard that this place is mediocre at best, we were all pretty hungry and decided to judge this place for ourselves. The first clue that we should have went somewhere else is coming in to an empty restaurant on a Friday night. Huge red flag, especially in such a busy neighborhood as Bay Ridge. On to the food: I had the pastrami sandwich and I hate to say it but this was the WORST pastrami I have ever had. It was EXTREMELY fatty and tasteless. Seriously, it was as if I was just eating globs of fat. I ended up picking out most of the«meat» and piling it up on an empty plate. The few pieces I did eat made me queasy for the next 8 hours. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is because the potato latkes were decent. I would NOT come here again and would recommend others not to either. Unless you’re into deplorable deli meats.

#RIP Gold Coast Deli– You are shockingly closed. What happened? Your Brooklyn chowder in a rich red broth, with brisket was amazin’ Your Rachel with pastrami was delicous. Oh and the pretzel bread with mustard butter– ooof. Your«nuevo dlel» foodi made me discover this food again. Was it the ‘hood? Cause you would be soooo welcomed in Chelsea or Park Slope also Gold Coasts with hungry Jews abounding. Went for lunch today, and yes I traveled for your food. I also liked your food more than the upmarket Kutschers Tribecca. Please come back again in another incarnation!

I went here last night for dinner with the family. I have been here before for The Thirsty Reader 50 Shades of Grey book club and Mother’s Day Eve with the mommies. Both times the service was slow but the food was good, so I wanted to try them. We were seated right away in the Atrium, which was great. Our server came over right away(don’t remember his name. Pleasant enough bald guy). Kids ordered Mac & Cheese and a pizza bagel. Their food came out with our appetizers. Artichoke and spinach dip — really good and disco fries. When the kids’ food and apps came out our server said our fish & chips would be right out. Ok, that’s fine — we just got our apps. Then the wait began. I should have expected the slowest service ever from the last 2 times I was there, but the last 2 times we were very large groups. This was unforgivable. First of all, after the apps/kids food was done, we sat with a pile of dirty dishes on the table, even though various people that worked there passed our table no less than FIVETIMES. One time even a manager. I don’t know about you, but I HATE sitting with a pile of dirty dishes on the table. Since I used to work in a restaurant, it’s one of my biggest pet peeves. My husband asked our server for a second beer. Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Sat forever without one. After FORTYMINUTES our food came. FORTYMINUTES. Other people who ordered after us where getting their food. Now, the fish and chips, when it finally came was good enough. Not A Salt And Battery good, but pretty dar close. But the fact that we waited so long was totally unacceptable, especially since it really wasn’t that busy table-wise. I know because I went to the bathroom 2 – 3 times with my kids. And have ypu ever tried getting a 5 year old to sit and wait while mommy and daddy pray that their food is coming sometime soon? With tip the meal was $ 100. The 2nd beer finally came and we weren’t charged for it. My husband pointed that out and our server said it was because we waited so long. I know Ted owns a lot of restaurants, bravo to him. But how can this place justify sitting and waiting FORTYMINUTES for our entrees. We were there for 2 ½ hours with a 5 and 10 year old. NOTOK! If the restaurant was slammed, I could understand. But it wasn’t. The kitchen staff really needs to get it together. The average time a diner should wait for an entrée after they receive their apps is no more than 15 minutes. I repeat FORTYMINUTES. Will I be back? I don’t know. I would rather wait for a table at Ho’ Brah with the kids. Food is great and the service is spot on. I could spend half the money there and be out in half the time, which is important when you have kids. Did I mention that I waited FORTYMINUTES for my entrée? I could have gone to Mimi’s and gotten a mani/pedi and be back in the time we waited. I have lived in Bay Ridge for almost 15 years, and I have never had service this painfully slow. And we eat out 2 – 3 times a week. Enough said.

To paraphrase Luther Campbell(aka Luke Skyywalker) I’m like a dog in heat, a freak without warning. I have an appetite for sandwiches ’cause me so hungry.* Seriously, the sandwich I had was so good it should be banned in the USA! Went here with friends after running the Brooklyn Half Marathon and was ready for some major food and something to drink. On the drink side, I had a giant Bloody Mary which definitely replenished the nutrients I lost while running 13 miles in the heat(suck on that, Gatorade!) On the food tip, my buddy recommended the Cuban Reuben. Oh Cuban Reuben, me eat you long time! And oh my word, that sandwich was awesome. Look at the picture I took of it! It was so big I was just going to eat half and take the other half home but once I started eating, I truly was like a dog in heat, a freak without warning… and I ate the entire thing. Service was fine for all of us. If you’re in Bay Ridge, I command you to try the Cuban Reuben at Gold Coast. ____________________________________ * This is the NSFW version, turn down your speakers!

I came here for brunch, and really enjoyed it! A few things… — the honey bacon is awesome. It was not what I expected when I ordered a side of bacon, but I loved it — the french toast is delicious — eggs are so so… but they’re just eggs, so what more would you expect? — our waiter, on the day we went, was slow and unhelpful. but another girl quickly helped — if you order the brunch, they give you a coffee cake… which is actually quite tasty — not a good area for parking, so either walk or leave yourself time to park. Overall, a nice experience and I will go back.

Gold Coast is one of those great places that just makes you happy when you walk through the doors. The soundtrack is a New Wave fan’s dream — tons of Morrissey, The Smiths, The Killers, Depeche Mode, The Cure — it feels like someone took my iPod and plugged it in. And then there’s the food! Grilled cheddar cheese on thick slice of hallah bread served with homemade potato chips! Delish! Make yourself really happy and live a little — have the grilled cheese with the garlic herb French fries or the amazing potato latkes, served with apple sauce. Another great dish are the sriracha wings — spicy with just the right amount of kick. Or you can try my husband’s favorite dish — the chicken fingers platter with the best honey mustard sauce in Bay Ridge. Whatever you order, you will be very happy. Don’t forget to try their milk shakes for an extra sweet treat. Gold Coast is also the host to Bay Ridge’s Speak Up Toastmasters chapter that meets every Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the back room at Gold Coast. Its a great event at a fun and friendly location.

Cold Ghost Great fried chicken! Service was a bit touch and go but the food is of a higher standard than most surrounding restaurants. We wish you’d stay! Perhaps if your space wasn’t so luxurious. This neighborhood needs more greats like this! Better luck next time.

Update: After speaking with the owners about the dearth of places that welcome mommies and kids, Wednesdays are Mommy+Me day at Gold Coast with amazingly affordable lunch specials and KIDSEATFREE! The staff is not only warm and friendly despite the chaos that children can bring but the gentleman of Gold Coast have even implemented a play area for children in the back room filled with toys, coloring books, reading books and little tables and chairs for the wee ones. This addition truly makes Gold Coast unique and singular in the Bay Ridge row of restaurants. One that VALUES the $$$ moms spend and treats us like special customers rather than the usual eye-roll and sigh elicited when you go to some other restaurants I won’t name. Gold star, Gold Coast, you’re the best!

Friends, foodies, countrymen, lend me your ears! I come to dine at this outpost of attentive service and upscale atmosphere in the heart of Bay Ridge, and to praise it. Gold Coast first caught my eye with its clean design, kids’ play space and large room, capable of handling my giant double-decker stroller. It kept my attention when I tried the delicious brunch entrees and sandwiches. Now there is an all-new dinner menu. At night, the place transforms into a hip candle-lit joint along the lines of Manhattan’s Pastis or Schiller’s Liquor Bar. How can one restaurant be all things to all people? I’m not sure, but Gold Coast certainly succeeds.

Had a surprisingly great brunch here on Sunday. Initially I was worried that the service was going to be slow, but the team rose to the challenge and pulled off a quality meal at a reasonable price. The brunch options include a number of different egg dishes and my selection the burger. The burger was a little more well done that I had hoped and the fries were also a little overcooked. The $ 15 brunch option includes one alcohol beverage including a small sangria. For four dollars more you can have the unlimited drinks option in my second serving of sangria was in a much larger mug. The meal was preceded by freshly baked cinnamon cake which was very tasty. The rye toast and eggs which came with our egg dish were excellent. The outer seating within the glass greenhouse atmosphere allows for much sunlight. Overall a very good experience and pleasant and efficient staff.

Before this place opened, I remember reading that the owners(same people as Cebu, Apt 138, etc.) were opening this place based on a need that they saw, that Bay Ridge was lacking this type of jewish delicatessen. Well, they were right and are now rightfully so filling this gap. I have ordered take out and dined in and was fully satisfied with my meal both times. I had both the pastrami and the corned beef and it is tasty, hearty thick sliced meal on delicious(rye or marble) bread. It’s not cheap-at $ 12 a sandwich, but you will definitely be full. When you dine in you also get two kinds of pickles and coleslaw. Usually coleslaw kind of grosses me out, but their homemade coleslaw is so fresh, it tastes like it was made to order; it is light and you can identify every componenet of it-crispy cabbage and carrots. The service was very slow but once the food came it was easy for me to forget, since the food was delicious and the waitress was nice and friendly.

I thought the atmosphere, service, and food at this diner style deli was fantastic. I relaxed in the sun room and ordered the Reuben. While I was waiting for food the server brought me a piece of coffee cake and a carafe of water. When the sandwich came the corned beef was obviously home cooked and chiseled into large meaty deliciousness on the rye with copious melted Swiss and dressing. I love finding different tasty delis. Good stuff! Enjoy.

I stopped by with a friend for Brunch because we were just wandering around the neighborhood. It looks like your average diner outside but the sign BRUNCH caught my eye. They had an interesting selection of brunch with mimosa or Illy coffee! and Illy coffee is REAL coffee! I had an egg benedict concotion and it was yummy. The cinnamon/nutmeg bread they gave was perfect. It was moist witha crunchy top. The staff was super nice and courteous!

So last night we went to try Gino’s(based on some Unilocal reviews) but the wait was like forever so we went to 3rd avenue and looked for something else. After nixing a few Italian restaurants that just didn’t feel right, we wandered into the Gold Coast Delicatessen. We were impressed with how clean and friendly the place was, even if a bit leery of why it was quite empty on a Friday night save a couple of people at the bar. The décor was quite pleasant and you do not feel crowded in(especially last night!). Also it was nice that there were different motifs from living room chairs to marble tables and a windowed porch at which to sit. Our waitress, Beth, who we later in the meal learned was on her third night… well second after one of training, was very friendly and made us feel quite welcome. Unfortunately as the meal went on, she seemed to forget about us and our waits for service went from«nice to not be rushed» to «I wonder if she went home?» We were brought cold water in a carafe which we liked so we would not have to keep asking for more and two pretzel-bread sticks with mustard butter. My other half felt the sticks were too salty but I am writing this review and I loved them! The menu is basically a deli but with some Italian selections as well. Coming originally from RI where the Chinese restaurants used to include a loaf of Italian bread with take outs, I felt right at home! We began with some delicious potato pancakes that were definitely homemade, thick and flavorful. They came with sour cream and homemade applesauce. Next we split a «Marty Markowitz» which obviously had to be a huge sandwich on seeded rye filled with pastrami, corn beef, turkey, coleslaw and two kinds of pickles. Excellent taste and plenty of meat. They serve mustard in these cute mini squeezers that look like they should be in a kid’s arts & crafts set. Cute, yes, but not practical for those of us who like mustard because they hold so little. For dessert we split an excellent ice cream sundae which includes the three standard flavors(chocolate, vanilla and strawberry) of ice cream and homemade hot fudge, whipped cream and the traditional red dyed cherry on top. We had asked that the fudge be warm. When the sundae arrived it was not and there was very little of it on the sundae. When we asked for more fudge and that it be hot, we were brought more. This time the fudge was hot, so all was forgiven. Again we were very impressed and had the service been more attentive, I would definitely have considered a 5 star rating. We will be back!

I came here on two separate occasions. The service is wonderful, all the staff members are very friendly and they are very attentive. The first time I came here was for brunch and I have to say it was okay. For $ 15 you get a main brunch dish and your choice of a morning cocktail or coffee. I ended up getting both the cocktail and coffee($ 3). The food was okay and i think the deal was pretty good, so I guess if I wanted some brunch I would go back. The second time I came was for dinner. Google was having a wonderful offer and I’ve looked over their menu and dinner prices are pretty steep. The hubs and I went and we had a wonderful time. We were told that the fried chicken($ 17) would take about 25 minutes and the hubs had a great idea, we’ll split a sandwich for an app then eat the chicken as the main course! Thats one for Hubs. The cuban sandwich was pretty tasty and rich. I have to say that this place has HUGE portions hence the steep prices. The chicken was super hot and crispy. we ended up having a lot of left overs and also got the chocolate cherry bread pudding. We could see that this place takes their time to make good food happen. I’m a fan!

Just don’t do it — hop a train and hit up Carnegie or the Stage Deli and eat yourself a sandwich worthy of a $ 20 tab. Overpriced, overcooked and overly fatty deli meats. Chopped chicken liver salad that was a small portion of terrible chopped liver(I mean, how do you mess this up? It’s livers in a blender with some onion and egg whites). Pastrami that’s dry and a small portion for the price to boot(hit up either of those establishments mentioned above and you’ll get a bigger serving of MUCH better food. The old Chianti space is nice, but it’s been converted into a pseudo-deli of a place that reeks of hipsters trying to be cool and once again failing miserably.

Went here for brunch and ordered the Zabar(latke with eggs) and the Carnegie Challah(French toast, swiss and corned beef). The food is very good if you know that what you’re ordering is the chef’s riff on tradition deli favorites. It’s a nice departure from the usual breakfast fare and everything tasted it was made from scratch, even the Russian dressing. The latkes were nice and crispy without being greasy and full of flavor. The French toast was also quite good despite being a bit light on corned beef, but they were thick cut toast so it was quite filling. Overall the experience was nice and the space is contemporary with a nod to the delicatessens of old. Service was really pleasant but I believe they’re still learning so there are a lot of confused servers not quite sure what they should be doing. One other thing to expect is the price, be prepared to pay $ 15 a head for brunch which includes coffee or a hangover cocktail.

I thought the place was pretty good. I feel like people are being too tough on this place. The pastrami fell apart, but it didnt matter much, it was just as good with a fork. The pretzel sticks were really good with the mustard seed butter, and for me this was enough to return. The hotdog was very good. A real kosher deli dog, not some BS that came out of a package. Liked the bottled rootbeer, and all the milk shake/egg crème options. I liked Gold Coast and will return.

Having grown up Jewish on Long Island, I love a deli food — it tastes like my childhood. However, the closest delis to me are either Adelman’s in Mill Basin or Mile End in Boerum Hill. The opening of Gold Coast five blocks from my apartment is a blessing from the heavens. I’ve been there twice and, despite some typical opening week problems(out of matzoh ball soup and cream soda one time, out of pastrami the next), the food was great. It was disappointing, but probably a good sign that the three things that they ran out of were the most Jewish staples of a Jewish deli. It means that they underestimated the void that they have filled. The menu provides a really interesting and unique modern twist on New York Deli fare(sending out pretzel rolls with mustard butter before the meal is an awesome idea). The egg salad with pickled jalapeños on challah was great, as was the rueben. The chopped liver(with fried strips of chicken skin) was outrageous and rivaled any chopped liver I’ve ever had, and chopped liver is my one of my absolute favorite foods. The latkes are top notch and come with amazing homemade apple sauce AND sour cream(they are not close to kosher — there is a «Cuban rueben» with roast pork that I will be trying very soon). My wife gushed at the matzoh ball soup and my friend declared the corned beef the best he’d ever had. I will be coming back very often, especially once they get their liquor licence later this month.
