The prices are too high and the quality of the food is fair. Regarding their hot food, the tomato sauce is terrible and the food is much, much, too salty. The roast beef is always too rare/raw. The heros they make are terrible. They need to get a real cook in the kitchen. The staff doesn’t seem to appreciate customers, which shows in their demeanor.

This happend about 3 years ago. Now I joined Unilocal I want to get this off my chest. I hate this place and i’m not talking about there food quality. I bought a piece of parmigano reggiano. I started cooking on Saturday night when I opened the cheese it was ½ end piece and too dry out to taste good. This piece belongs in the garbage. That’s where I put it. We had ravioli’s without cheese. I got over it quickly and forgot about it. Went there many times afterwoods for the same cheese and everything was good. About one year later I walked in and ordered a piece of parmigiano reggiano. It was very vertical shaped. I asked to look at it before they wrapped it. It was the end piece. The whole long end of the cheese had thick useless rind. I yelled out the counter guy and told them this is the second time this happend. As I was yelling at him the guy that seems to be in charged started running away with a grin on his face to the back room instead of dealing with it. Him running away is why i’m writing this letter. This tells me that the guy in charge tells the counter guy to do this. After getting mad they gave me a fair piece. I understand that with this cheese you get a lot of rind but this much is very very wrong. Do they decide to do this to me because all I order is one piece of cheese. This is stupid. Not good for business. I told 15 people in the nieghborhood and they told more people. I told some of the local store owners i’m friendly with and they could not believe it. Ive bought this cheese about 200 times before in many different store’s. No one in there right mind would sell it like this. If you cut it right everyone gets a fair piece. The good news about this is this got me buying my Parmigano Reggiano at Zabbars. Much better tasting and one dollar less a pound. Better then parmagiano that ive paid 25 – 30 dollars a pound for. The only reason my fiancé and I dont shop here on a regular basis is because it’s a little on the pricey side. However, the quality of food is very good here. Mozzarella cheese is fresh as are the breads. Very good pre-made food such as potato croquets and breaded chicken cutlets. We get their 3 foot heros for parties sometime, and everyone loves the sandwiches. Yes sometimes you have to wait for the cashier to walk over to the register to check you out, but the deli guys are very nice and will sometimes offer you samples, yum! They also make fresh pasta sauce which is a little pricey but worth a try.

Not sure why this place would ever get a bad review. Its Brooklyn, not Manhattan, this place is as LEGIT as it gets. The fresh mutz is breathtaking, the bread(same kind sold at paneantico’s — I believe it all the same owner) is also the best. HUGE Sandwiches for 13 $. The hot food selections varies and everything is delicious. The food is a little pricey for Brooklyn, but totally worth it. So fresh and delicious, you really can’t go wrong with anything from this place. Don’t be afraid to ask to try something, the guys in there are friendly and usually give you a try of whatever they are slicing up for sandwiches.

Now see I must disagree with the post below because every time I went in here I had nothing but helpful service. Today we ordered 2 heros the sausage and peppers were incredible and the wife ordered roast beef and swiss. The guy cutting the cold cuts had extra roast beef and handed it to us and said let me know what you think? It was one of the best tasting roast beefs I have had in a long time. The service was good and there were alot of folks working behind the counter.

I wanted this to remind me of the Italian Imports my dad would take me to as a child. And it did! In the way it smelled – of olives and cheese and cured meats and bread. Unfortunately that’s where the similarities end. Their selection of products is limited. I was disappointed. And really, thirty dollars for a small chunk of Imported provolone cheese is just inexcusable. What is also inexcusable is the complete lack of service. I wandered one end of the market to the other several times, eying the cash register and looking around to see if I could distinguish where the cashier was. I finally stood in front of the cash register for another few minutes before a girl meandered – and I do mean meandered slowly – over; she couldn’t have been less interested. Oh, and they carried Rachael Ray products. Vaffanculo!
