Fun and super tasty Asian food concepts and truly unique execution. Friendly, neighborhood vibe. Best Tom Yum I’ve had outside of Thailand. The meats for Asian tacos(my term) were a bit salty but the dish(and garnishes) stood apart from anything I’ve tasted in Pan-Asian cuisine. They had an all-you-can-eat Thai BBQ karaōke beerblast on Sundays! Awe-some! I hope Hawker Bar is just temporarily closed(for remodeling; the high chair seating was too unique). Please come back.

I loveeeee this place! Does anyone know if they are open still? They’ve been closed for at least a week now and there is no sign outside explaining why…

Even though I swore I wasn’t going to eat or eat ever again Friday night I woke up early Saturday morning and my friend asked«BRUNCH?» And of course I know what that means! I hadn’t tried Hawker’s brunch deal yet and figured why not. The menu is still very similar to Sunburnt Calf BK’s so I don’t really understand why the place is empty of people. The drinks are even the exact same. People are dumb. The menu doesn’t say unlimited but it is as close as to unlimited as you can get. I was still drinking mimosas with sake after my meal was over so I clearly had more than the 3 drinks for $ 10. I ended up having the Banh Mi bun with a fried poached egg and pork belly slathered in a little sirachi with some kind of root vegetable fries that kind of taste like parsnips I can’t remember the name but they taste better and healthier than regular old fries in my opinion. Probably taro root. It all comes with a side of spicy mayo. Heaven. The most decadent Banh Mi I have ever had with egg yolk dripping into succulent ribbons of pork fat. My friend went with an egg frittata omelette with shrimp and served on a bed of sticky rice. She said it was the best omelette she has ever had in her life. I don’t have the menu names of everything because brunch is still not up on their website. But trust, its still delicious. Also, I would just like to pay note that the ‘fish cake’ on the menu was changed from originally saying ‘tofu fish cake’ thanks to my review. Booyah. Awesome staff and service. I really would love to check out their deal of the month for every Sunday this September they have been having an unlimited barbeque, keg beer, and karaōke for only $ 20. I wish I had known this before or that it carries on into October.

Finally the flavors of Southeast Asia arrive in Brownstone Brooklyn! Had a great meal last night with my wife and twin 6 yr olds. Loved the food, especially: buns, green mango salad, Ming’s Fried Rice, spring rolls, shrimp toast, chicken heart and sausage skewers. Service was both friendly and flexible about the kid preferences. Really really loved the house made condiments including hoisin, hot sauce, and a knockout coconut sambal. Choice scenes from classic martial arts movies on DVD loop were entertaining for the whole family but so mesmerizing as to dull conversation a bit. A fun and delicious place — we’ll definitely be back.

Have loved the food here for awhile. Delicious! The wonderful, courteous staff only makes it better. Great spot. Good beer. Good food. BBQ is amazing!

The food was amazing. The pork buns melt in your mouth. The mango salad is just spicy enough to have a kick but not kill your taste buds and the wraps were fun and fresh. They made a #3 nonalcoholic cocktail for me which was slightly sweet and perfectly balanced with the ginger. Lastly, the server was helpful, kind and just plain nice!

Great food, fantastic tasting drinks: Zu Mule with lychee was refreshing, the 5-spice was one of the few bourbon drinks I have ever tried done right! Service was great, although I miss the waiter with the beard and glasses :( Overall everything was amazing, will definitely come back with friends!

Not sure what is going on here… the faux-bamboo wallpaper isn’t doing anything for the décor and the service is the kind of pushy you might expect from a tourist trap place. But the backyard is nice enough for drinks, even if the drink menu is pretty standard. We didn’t stay for the food, but that looked like the selling point and a reason I might be back.

Tonight is the second time that I’ve visited Hawker Bar and they are still worthy of five solid stars! I joined Ingrid S. for happy hour(6−7pm) and found she was the only one there. I’ve come to realize that this place is quite empty except it turns out that most everyone is out in the backyard. The front of the restaurant is lovely and is open air. We sidled up at the bar and had a couple drinks along with chicken hearts and pork belly buns. I couldn’t be happier to have this as my dinner! Note that they are cash only! Looking around, I really love the atmosphere. It’s pretty zen and I love the Australian accents that fill the air. The bar where we sat isn’t far from the kitchen and it has only just dawned on me that all the staff are perfectly quiet to leave their customers to enjoy the music and listen to one another. As other people trickled in the restaurant, they were greeted immediately and had their orders taken down. Always a sign of a great restaurant. Our bartenders were lovely and very attentive. Bonus points for informing me that the lychee wasn’t fresh enough and that I’d need to wait two more minutes for my first drink. I love how they showed me that they have high expectations for how their drinks are made and presented. They definitely take their time making it and making sure that all the ingredients are blended together just right — as they should be! While sipping on drinks, I noted how amazing the music was and that there was an old black and white karate movie on mute. Very cool. For the first time, I noticed Hawker Bar’s garden. I only got a peak of it but it looks nice and a few people were out there. Should definitely sit out there before fall comes around!

I enjoyed this place. I pounded 2 of the Zu Bison Vodka with the lychee and the lime juice and the ginger beer. I could bathe in that stuff! When you walk in, it’s the same interior as the Sunburnt Calf BK, which I was not expecting. It had old martial arts movies playing on the tv and tt even had the same pleasant smell coming from the kitchen! I didn’t order any food, so maybe I’ll try something next time!

Their brunch was excellent — I had the pork belly steamed bun, and it was absolutely sublime, with a runny-yolked«son-in-law egg» spilling onto the rest of sandwich in a way that tied all the flavors together. The brunch drink special was also fantastic — $ 10 for four drinks, and an additional $ 3 for every drink thereafter. Overall, I like this new version even better than when it used to be The Sunburnt Calf.

This is our favorite bar in Prospect Heights, possibly in all of Brooklyn. Their Southeast Asian food is amazing, authentically flavored and well-researched(their owner was telling us he goes to Thailand at least once a year). Their cocktails are delicious but strong! Brunch here is especially fun; the drink special is 3 for $ 10 with food, and all subsequent drinks are $ 3. The Banh Mi sandwich with a fried egg was a hit at our table. Most importantly, the staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. Hawker Bar also donated $ 3,000 to the PS9 book drive last year. They’re a great addition to the neighborhood.

Happy Hour i(Monday-Friday 4−7PM) is definitely worth it – we had some nice nibbles and sips for around $ 10 a person. This week, they’re celebrating Singapore Day, so we each ordered a Singapore Sling($ 6 each, $ 3 at Happy Hour with the 2 for 1 special). The Slings were a little unbalanced, with the lemon overpowering the drink a bit, but they were fine for the price. We also got four types of the stix(satay) for $ 2 each: cumin lamb, chili Montauk squid, snails, and the Thai sausage. They were all pretty tasty, though each skewer is pretty small. Flavors were pretty well-balanced, nicely Southeast Asian, and yum. Not the best Southeast Asian I’ve ever had, but nice for bar snacks. Also, I liked the martial arts fight scenes that they have playing on the TVs inside — a fun touch.

Man oh man. Tried their«Thai Sausage» bun at a food event last night… SO delicious! By far my favorite food of the whole night(and there were lots of great vendors!) You could literally taste all of the different flavors(kaffir lime, ginger, lemon grass, etc.) Cannot wait to get to their brick & mortar shop and check out the rest of their menu. From the descriptions I’ve red, I want to try all of their cocktails.

Much like a Meatloaf song, if you come here, don’t be sad, ’cause two out of three ain’t bad. That sums up my experience when I came here with a friend. We sampled a bit of everything and overall, definitely 2/3rds of the food was good to great and the rest, although not bad, just wasn’t my bag, baby. For example, I wasn’t wild about the spring rolls, but I did love the zesty Green Mango salad. Wasn’t really a fan of the thai sausage but the fried rice was extraordinary. Pork belly buns were yum. What I loved the best was the Roti & Lettuce wraps. It was sort of like mini fajitas. We had them served with either duck or shrimp. Much like an astronaut(and I know you just pictured a male astronaut, you sexist pig), the duck was out of this world. Also, drink #3 sounds good but it’s kind of «ech» but drink #5 makes up for it. Service was good all around. If it’s not raining and it’s not too hot, sit out back.

The place and vibe is nice. The staff was very attentive and polite. The food, yuck! salt… salt and more salt. I eat Asian all the time, I frequent Asian markets and can cook basci Asian. Sodium up the wazoo. Everything tastes like Asian food out of the microwave. I would go there for drinks but would not eat there unless there was a turnaround real quick. If you are going to cook Asian Fusion, I think you should have an Asian in the kitchen, just saying!

Great food, great drinks, and great vibe. They are still working out some of the first week kinks, but totally self-aware and friendly about it. Their happy hour is awesome — drinks half off and specials on buns and skewers too. I’ll definitely be back to sit in the garden.

Meats on sticks! normally $ 9 for 3 but only $ 2 during the happy hour!
