Friendly service paired with disappointing food. A group of friends and I had reservations at Hunters, and when the party that had the table before us was lingering longer than expected, the host was really accommodating. However, there’s not really anything good to say about the food. The chicken was oversalted(and I’m the type who usually adds salt to everything), the gnocchi was gummy, the grilled kale tasted like burnt cooking oil, and everything else was just … fine.

Probably the worst brunch I have had in BK in a long time. unfortunately! I really wanted to like it but the service was super slow albeit very nice. They forgot our friend’s coffee multiple times and it took them 20 minutes to take our order. Then our food came out much later than tables seated much later than us. My boyfriend’s eggs Benedict were not very good — one of the two eggs was completely cold! I think they pre-poach their eggs(obviously fine) but they didn’t reheat one of them. The menu looked awesome but everyone at our table was disappointed.

The food was pretty good. I had the chicken salad sandwich & chamomile tea. My friend had the farmer’s bowl & tea. We were pretty happy with our food though my sandwich bread was a bit burnt. Two stars because the service was really that bad. Our food took forever — literally people came in after us and were served their food before us. When we asked, they said it was coming. Fifteen minutes later it arrived.(We think she just forgot to put our food order in.) Then, our order wasn’t right — I was given a different sandwich so she had to take it away & promised the right order would be out shortly. Ten minutes later, our order was right. Total wait time for our salad & sandwich = nearly an hour. Yup, an hour for a salad & sandwich. We didn’t make a big stink bc we weren’t in the mood. My friend commented if they were a good place, she would probably apologize & even comp us for the tea since the wait was ridiculous. But nope. Nada. Thus, 2 stars.

Hunter’s is a delicious neighborhood spot! I’m knocking one star only because they have a B rating, and that stuff kind of freaks me out. However with that said, Hunter’s deserves a try if you haven’t been! I’ve stopped in for dinner and brunch and both were great experiences. I’ve had dinner tucked away in the back, and brunch at the bar, and received attentive service in both areas. Dishes I can vouch for: mussels, beef tartare, brussel sprouts, truffle fries, grilled kale salad, farmer’s basket(brunch), seasonal omelet(brunch). If you’re here for brunch definitely get the cucumber mimosa but ask for light on the simple syrup.

We should have known not to come in here after seeing the B grade health rating. Everything about this restaurant was unsatisfactory. We came for brunch. First, the server who also was the bartender was very curt. The coffee was terrible and tasted like mud water and they never once asked for refills. We ordered the seasonal omelet and the chicken hash dish. Nothing about the omelet was seasonal — it was so salty I couldn’t eat it. The chicken dish looked like the scraps from a bottom of a pan and lacked any flavor. It was a horrible experience.

Haven’t had a really great experience here yet. Three people in my party ordered the chicken hash. It was bland and dry. One person didn’t even get any chicken.

Service was slow(30 minute wait for brunch after seated) Seating area was cramped(a girl at the table behind us elbowed me when she sat down) Waitress was not attentive(we stopped her several times to remind her our coffee and utensils) And we got cold coffee served at our brunch table. The kale salad was delicious, but too bad the experience fell flat because of the service today.

We had our brunch wedding reception here. From our first meeting with them to closing out the bill, the owner, chef, and staff were helpful, knowledgable, and always there if we needed anything. Guests were thrilled with the food and service, and so were we. We are very thankful how great Hunter’s made our special day. Brunch is delicious. My sis is obsessed with the grilled kale salad. Drinks-wise we love the Boba Fett and the cucumber mimosa. Bartenders are amazing!

So I received a very nice, friendly response to my initial review from the owner that addressed all points, except how a frozen burger is served here and costs close to $ 20. We came for Sunday brunch and sat at the bar. The bar is great. Good quality drinks. Very friendly bartender. Service was fast. Unfortunately, the food was not so good. The fact that they serve frozen burgers for those prices is unacceptable. I couldn’t believe it when I bit into my burger. I didn’t expect that from this place. The mortadella Madame was ok. I’m pretty certain they used Bologna for the sandwhich, sure as hell didn’t taste like ham. At most, it was low quality ham. The food was could’ve been served at a tourist attraction spot. I’m extremely suspicious of their quality now that I’ve tried those two items.

Came here for dinner this past Saturday. Where most of the other nice and highly rated restaurants in the area had an hour or so wait, Hunter’s had one two seater left open when we walked in. Hunter’s is a casual restaurant(and bar) but the prices and quality of the food is higher than just an average restaurant($ 20 – 30 entrees & mostly $ 7 beers). With the exception of our check coming before being offered dessert or coffee or another round of drinks the service was friendly and attentive. I may not make Hunter’s a regular stop for dinner but was very satisfied with my meal and wouldn’t hesitate to come back in the future. I had their braised beef entrée($ 28) which came with a farro risotto and pumpkin and my fiancé got the sweet potato and ricotta gnocchi in a goat cheese sauce($ 20) and we shared a side of brussel sprouts with bacon and peanuts($ 6). Overall we were incredibly happy with our meals, everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Portions weren’t small but weren’t so big that there were leftovers either. I didn’t happen to see or taste any pumpkin in my dish nor did I taste or see or taste any peanuts in the side dish and the sprouts could have been cooked a bit longer with a bit more char on them(same with the bacon). As a dessert we «split»(ok mostly just me) had the Nutella bread pudding. This was excellent though if they had a couple cold sliced strawberries on top to cut down the sweetness and balance the flavor and hot temperature it would have been even better. No doubt it was a great meal though, definitely worthy of 4 stars.

I stopped by Hunter’s last night for dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The menu seemed a bit rich(but I guess it’s now fall, after all…) but the food we received was delicious and didn’t leave me feeling heavy. I enjoyed the cozy atmosphere which was not too crowded, too loud, or too dim. Just the right amount… :) I got the polenta and mushroom side(delish!), the bibb salad(pretty good). My friends got the mushroom potpie(meh. Not a lot of mushrooms and the crust was more like a bicuit placed on top of the filling…) and the lox(tasty!) As the weather turns cooler, I suspect we’ll be back for another dinner.

One of the best bloody mary’s I’ve ever had. Like seriously incredible bloody mary. Delicious $ 10 egg sandwich with chicken sausage, and a side salad. The staff is also super friendly and attentive. I love this place. Definitely will be back to try out the dinner menu!

Had a great experience here a few weeks ago. It didn’t start off so great, though: we ordered cocktails and burgers, but the burgers came out close to raw. But we pointed this out to our waitress, and she promptly fixed things up. The kitchen sent us two new burgers that were absolutely delicious, our waitress comped our first round of drinks, and we were offered a free dessert. Minus one star for the original issue, but otherwise, excellent food and especially excellent customer service. Will be back, for sure.

I live in the area and always wanted to try this place. I went for dinner with my boyfriend. I ordered the mussels with a side of fries and he ordered the Mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was delicious. My mussels were okay, but the fries were good. They both were very salty. I wouldn’t have minded too much how salty everything was if the water refilled our water glasses. The restaurant was almost empty and the water passed us a few dozen times and even after attempting to ask for water we were unsuccessful. I could not finish my meal because of the combination of how salty and the lack of water. There is so many great restaurants on smith street that I do not believe I will return because of the poor service.

Came to this awesome place today with my boyfriend and I must say I was pleasantly in awe with the food and the great customer service in which was giving to us. The bartender went above and beyond to ensure that we have a great experience. I will definitely come again

Decent drinks and food but poor service killed the good vibe. Get the squid a la plancha for an appetizer. The hamburgers are okay. Grilled kale salad was mushy and weak. Unless they can step up their game a bit, I will prefer to try other local venues

I really can’t believe I had never been here until last week. I feel especially bad because I thought they were new; my eyes must always have glossed over their signage prior to that point. And for that, I say I’m sorry. To Hunter’s, for not having noticed you. And to myself, for not checking this place out sooner. We went in for a few cocktails: the beau and I decided we wanted to sample a few so we both got different ones and then tried both out. We ended up having four total, each of them made with care and quite delicious: the Arya Stark, the Rust Bulleit(my personal favorite), the Chupacabras and the Shere Khan. Love the drink names, and love the super friendly bartenders. Didn’t get any food but have heard that everything is amazing so we’ll surely be back for brunch. I need to make up for a few years worth of visits.

First time back at Hunter’s since the Unilocal event waaaaay back when. Only stopped in for cocktails because they have a great happy hour special(4 – 7 every day, even on the weekend). They do 2 for 1 cocktails, and their selection is pretty, pretty good. Had the Chupacabras(tequila, jalapeño, triple sec, etc.) and tried the Shere Khan(gin, vodka, St. Germain, grapefruit and ginger). Loved the chupacabras. Actually ended up with a free drink because they messed up my first order, so that was nice. It’s a little tight for space at the bar(especially if you’re with a group), but there’s one communal table in the middle.

I went to brunch here with a friend recently and the food was just so-so. I think I just ordered the wrong thing, because what my friend got(a beet salad you could add chicken to) looked awesome when it arrived. Many of the other menu items and things going past us for other people’s tables looked yummy as well. On the menu, my breakfast sounded killer — Mortadela Croque Madame with Bechamel, Gruyère, and Fried Egg — but for such a decadent-sounding description, it tasted like something I could make myself quite easily. Just kind of bland. And also messy and awkward to cut because the bread was not cut on a bias(which would have been easier to eat, and nicer looking). I love a runny yolk, but the white of the«fried» egg also wasn’t quite cooked through, which wasn’t appetizing. And the dressing on the side salad was so mustard-y that the spiciness actually stung the inside of my nose when I ate it! Ha. Pretty imbalanced if it was trying to be a vinaigrette. Anyway, I am not hard to please for brunch and thought I couldn’t go wrong with the Croque Madame, but it just really tasted like it wasn’t made with a lot of care. Service was friendly and efficient, the Blue Bottle coffee was great, prices were reasonable, and the space was very nicely designed — my dish was just very underwhelming.

We were so pleasantly surprised by how wonderful Hunter’s was! We went for dinner on a Saturday and there were a few tables available. The vibe was relaxed and the service was great — the bartender was actually our waiter too, but he seemed to manage both jobs simultaneously just fine. We had many cocktails that were great but really it was the food that was so excellent. For starters we shared the oysters(they were big and perfectly meaty!), the yummy cheese plate(cheese from Stinky’s), and the delicious warm olives. Then the entrees… I can’t rave enough about the mussels. These mussels were plump and juicy and the sauce — which was miso based — was out of this world! Loaded with garlic slices, pieces of bread and spinach, I could eat this every night. My family also raved about the duck ragu pappardelle and the burger(ask for extra pickled onions). The sea bass was nice but had the least flavor of all the main dishes — it was served with asparagus and red quinoa. We loved this restaurant and can’t wait to come back!
