We traveled all the way from Queens to try Dassara and it was closed on a Saturday around 4. What’s up with all these small, local businesses creating a schedule and not sticking to it? I try very hard to only support small businesses, but this is really disappointing! Le sigh…

Ordered via Seamless(chicken ramen and pork ramen). Both were pretty unimpressive. Would not order again.

Came here on a fall evening afterwork with my bestie. Drink: Culantro is a drink to remember if you love cilantro. Started with shishito pepper appetizer. They’re prepared just how shishito peppers should be, with bonito flakes topping the dish. Tuna Sashimi Rice Bowl is creative. You have your usual ingredients in a sashimi bowl, but Chef adds some of his own creations on there. He pickles his own mixed asian vegetables and adds it into the bowl which give you a different angle of a Tuna bowl. Topped with fresh cilantro. By the time my Tonkotsu Ramen came along, I was a tad bit too full to eat much of it. It’s a pretty standard Tonkotsu Ramen with the half cooked egg, bamboo shoots and char sui. Overall, the appetizers were really good and I would definitely come back and recommend to a friend for a casual ramen night.

Stepped inside for dinner on a Wednesday evening between Christmas and the new year. Super chill and pleasant staff. Looking for a quick meal with a friend. Started with lamb dumplings and pork belly buns, both super good. Ordered two craft cocktails, one called the«chillantro», hilarious! For dinner I had the tuna sashimi bowl with avocado which was REALLY good and my friend took a chance on the Ramen Burger. An expertly prepared burger placed between two«buns» made of ramen noodles. We joked with the waiter before ordering this. We had questions regarding consistency and fears of crunchiness. Once the burger arrived looking pretty darn delicious, all trepidation flew right out the window. My friend loved the burger. I look forward to returning to try it myself. Not cheap eats, but not crazy expensive either. Check them out!

Recommendation: Maybe just sit at the bar and have cocktail and an appetizer. Food: The Xi’an Ramen, I was not impressed by the flavor of either the noodles or the broth – both lacked the depth that I appreciate in Ramen. My wife enjoyed the dish a bit more, but was not wowed. I appreciate the creativity of the menu, but the execution on a Friday night seemed low. Fried chicken bun was an interesting concept and good flavor. Drink: I did not have a cocktail but my wife did enjoy her the flavors and the mixture of hers. Service: Prompt and friendly enough – no complaints. Summary: I like the attempt at novelty, but the rich flavors I was expecting were not there.

Had the smoked salmon ramen and the bacon and egg ramen for brunch. The ramen noodles were soggy, and over cooked — not al dente or at all springy. The broth was really oily, and a confusing mix between way too salty and also really watery. Highly disappointing, as I was really excited about their ramen variations. Maybe I’ll try their traditional ramen bowls next time. Maybe.

For me, I rate a restaurant’s ramen based on the broth, the egg, and the noodles in that order. Dassara delivers on all 3. The broth had lots of flavor and was very tasty. The egg was perfectly cooked, nicely soft boiled, almost like custard. The noodles were also good. Speaking of broths, Dassara’s Tokyo rub for blue crab was one of the most amazing things I’ve tasted. I went during their seafood pop up and the chef suggested the blue crabs. So I ordered the blue crab with Tokyo rub. The chef cracked open the crab so all the crab juice combined with the rub resulted in a wonderfully rich buttery thick soup. I had a ratatouille moment– thinking about the best dinners I had in Japan with my grandparents! I will be returning to Dassara soon! The food is sooo deliciously oishii!

First time here came around 5 o’clock, I was the only one here. I tried the tebasaki chicken as a appetizer. It’s pretty soggy, and the chicken are soggy rather then crispy which I don’t recommend. I tried the tonkastsu ramen(forgot how to spell the name) I ask for tofu and I wanted it spicy. It came up 15 –20 minutes later. The ramen was flavorless other then spicy. Tofu was cold the bamboo shoot didn’t look fresh either. 3 stars for the waiter who was really nice. Other then that I’m not sure if I’ll be back.

Disappointing. I bought my BF here just to TRY the ramen burger and they didn’t have it?! That set us off then when we tried to order the chicken ramen they were out of Chicken?! Like seriously this place is disturbed and needs to get with the program with their vendor. The ambiance is great, music is chill. I just wish they had what was on the menu or at least tell me when you seat me so I can decide if I still want to eat here!

I ate here last Friday with my friend. The more I think about it, the more I disliked it. We sat at the bar. The ambiance was great; behind the bar has a screen that plays cool manga-like cartoons. My friend and I each ordered the PBR and whiskey shot special($ 5). This was great! The PBR was ice cold, and the whiskey wasn’t as awful as I expected it to be. As an appetizer, we ordered the pork buns, which were delicious. They were tasty, but they brought us out two orders. When we told them we only wanted one order, they took away one of the orders and charged us for both. Good thing I checked over the bill before we paid. We each ordered the deli ramen, which I was extremely excited about because it was such a unique concept. Unfortunately, I thought it would have been better than it turned out to be. The best part of the dish were the noodles– the slightly hard, thin, hakata-style noodles that I love so dearly. The matzo ball and the pastrami were nothing to write home about, and unfortunately didn’t blend well with the soup and the noodles. There was also an influx of celery in my bowl, which didn’t contribute to the poor balance of flavors. If I wanted my ramen to taste like chicken soup, I would have gone to a deli and got regular soup. The concept was there, but not executed well. The service was dismal. Aside from getting charged twice for pork buns, we waited over 45 minutes for our food. Ramen doesn’t take a long time to prepare at peak hours — it’s not like they are making the broth from scratch right when we order(because that would take hours). We also asked for glasses of water and they never brought them to us. We were sitting at the bar… how hard would it be to pour us a couple glasses…

Friendly, but confused service and tasty with a misstep or two in execution. Had the fried chicken sliders, shrimp mazeman, Mac n cheese ramen w/lump crab and Tokyo bay fries. The fried chicken is Pablo coated and fried, and served on bao w/lightly pickled cukes. Tasty and gone in a few bites. The shrimp in the mazeman were flavorful, but splitting them down the middle seemed to make them harder to de-shell. I’ll call that a misstep in execution. The ramen soaked up all that good flavor and was the perfect amount of chewiness. The mac n cheese ramen w/lump crab was good and topped w/panko. The panko didn’t seem toasted so call that slight misstep in execution two. The overall dish was still good. The fries were tasty and well executed. They disappeared fast. A couple service hiccups were bringing one order of sliders when two were ordered and bringing one dish much later than the rest of the entrees. Nothing egregious, but enough to notice and remember it.

I was so excited because I had such a high expectation since I heart Ganso. In short, It was ok i prefer Ganso any day. I think discussing ramen preference is like discussing types of burger or pizza you like — it is damn difficult because everyone has different preferences. But the noodles!!! Maybe i had some old noodles from the night before but it really felt like eating boxed spaghetti noodles with ramen broth. I have had better noodles out of plastic bag i buy in japanese store. I went during Sunday Brunch so I am not sure what dinner service is like but the server was just really bad. Maybe he started two weeks before or he was just hung over… But I probably could have done do a better job on the spot.

Came here with a Gilt City Deal for lunch and had to make a reservation due to fine print, but we were the only ones in the restaurant on a Saturday afternoon! We were given a special menu, one bun to share, one ramen and one drink each. There was not an option for the chicken bun, so we opted for the pork bun. The pork was super crispy and not so fatty, much to my liking. It came with a spicy yet sweet soy sauce which went really well. I think that was my favorite dish of the meal. I ordered the mushroom ramen and the BF had the chicken ramen. The broth had a depth to it, but I couldn’t seem to slurp it all. Lots of pieces of mushroom and even more scallions. The noodles were a little overcooked. Didn’t try the chicken ramen but BF said it was just okay. It’s different from other ramen places since its combination of different cultures. Had high hopes and they kinda fell short.

Wow. So disappointed in this place. I ordered here for the first time because my girlfriend recommended it and says she enjoyed the food. I dont know whether I came on an off day but it was horrible. I ordered the chix ramen and it was horrible. The«pork» was hard as rock! I couldnt even bite into it! It totally ruined my appetite. The noodles werent bad but the dish is overly packed with onions or cilanto(cant remember which one) and very little noodles. Not even a full egg. A half boiled egg. So I ate onions for dinner. Dont think I would ever eat here again. In the picture You can see my teeth marks in the«pork» that I couldnt even bite off!

This review is for the Fourth of July pig roast and Maryland crab boil. I have never been there for the ramen. As fanatical about ramen as I am, Dassara’s never been on my radar for ramen. We partook in the holiday meal in the back garden, which was filled with a hipster-heavy youngish crowd swilling PBR and smoking their American Spirits(or whatever artisanal cigarette is in with the kids these days). The DJ was firmly planted in the corner, spinning vinyl. Not wanting to feel out of place, my BF and I(probably the oldest ones in the space) ordered a couple PBRs. Our plates arrived fast: one with 3 red sauce doused blue crabs, and the other with garlic oil sauced roast pork and boiled potatoes. The crabs were phenomenal; the pork was not as phenomenal, but still good. Preorder tix, if you plan to do one of these one off events. The restaurant ran out of crabs that day for walk-ins. Tickets are also slightly cheaper that way.

Came here due to a craving for ramen minus the long waits at other ramen places. Wasn’t so happy about how it turned out. The mushroom ramen was super salty, the broth was way too salty for my taste buds to handle. It didn’t taste anything like how a real ramen dish should taste like. I guess it should be expected because it’s not an authentic Japanese ramen restaurant but I did like their potato hash. My boyfriend had the ramen with salmon and some fried cream cheese ball, that was also very salty we weren’t so happy about the food and the customer service isn’t any better.

My biggest restaurant peeve is being served after a table that is seated much later. For a restaurant that is half empty, the wait for food was very long, especially for a place that specializes in only one thing. More irritating than the wait itself is that a larger group that is seated much later gets served about 15 minutes before. The broth and noodles are good, but where are all the toppings? Even with an order of extra toppings, they are pretty non-existent in the bowl. $ 2 for extra greens and all I get are 5 one-inch stalks of them. The pork was a tough cut that was less than satisfactory. — Long wait for food. Expect to wait at least 30 minutes before your food arrives. — Very little toppings, if at all. Extra toppings are small in portion and not worth it. — Frustrating experience overall. + Good broth and noodles. Will I return? No.

I opted to go to Dassara for brunch one Saturday morning and it was actually my second time there. The first time I came here, I had some really amazing kimchee pork belly buns. I was very excited to have their kimchee pork belly buns but unfortunately they were not on the menu. I’ve had their Chicken Ramen before and I enjoyed it but it was a disappointment today. The Chicken Ramen’s broth lacked a lot of flavor. I had the regular pork buns and they were so perfect, although I wouldn’t mind if there’s more meat on it. Don’t get me wrong, there was a decent amount of meat on it but I just wanted more. The pork buns came with a spicy barbeque sauce that tasted sweet and tangy as well. It paired well with the pork buns. I’ve never had their brunch menu so I spontaneously went with the Smoked Salmon Mazemen. It did not come how I thought it’d be so I had low expectations of how it’d taste. The more I ate it, the more I enjoyed this dish. The noodles were at a nice room temperature and it came with about 4 – 5 salmon pieces, a few fried cream cheese balls and skimp amount of ikura. It’s possible that I liked it so much because there was only a little of everything which made me crave for more. The combination of the fried cream cheese, kippered salmon, ikura and the warm ramen was amazing. This place is not too far from my job so I’d definitely be back here time to time to try our more items on the menu!

On our Sunday outing, we decided to stop by Dassara for a drink(particularly sake). Sunday football Pro Tip — Dassara is split into 2 rooms, one is the dining room and the other is a bar room. Football was playing on their 80 inch tv and would be perfect for you and some of your friends if you’re looking for a non-crowded place. We got to watch the Giants kick some ass. It was surprising that this place wasn’t crowded either given that it’s a pretty small joint I also overheard the manager talk about releasing a new menu come fall. Can’t wait to try!

We came here on a Saturday afternoon not for ramen but for the pig roast. Special thanks to Peter D. for posting the event on the Unilocal calendar. We purchased our tickets in advance and for $ 10 you will get a plate of pig roast and a PBR. While the $ 25 deal is unlimited pig roast and beer. I am glad that I purchased the aforementioned. The lady at the bar registered us for the event and gave us the appropriate tickets or bracelet if you purchased unlimited. A member of staff lead us at the back patio. The plate of pig roast came with a side potato salad, coleslaw, buns and can of PBR. The $ 10 deal is very well worth it, since you can plate your own portion. Not to mention that there’s DJ playing to add fun to the event. The place is very spacious for a ramen restaurant considering most ramen places that I’ve been to are arguably small. We will definitely come back to this place for pig roast event or try their popular ramen.
