Mixed experience. I’m inspired to write this after reading today’s NY Times article about shady lead-generation Google results. In hindsight, my experience checked a lot of the boxes in the article. I can’t be certain, but the piece rang true. The iron gate to my patio was falling out of the wall and misaligned, and was almost impossible to open and close. After a Google search, I called Jacob. The person answered like it was a home phone, which was a bit of a flag, but, whatever. He had a guy out to me quickly, so that was good. But as I watched him work, it seemed clear I wasn’t getting top notch craftsmanship. He fished some scraps of metal out of his completely chaotic van, started drilling unmeasured holes into them using my patio furniture as support, which I had to ask him not to do, and then did a quick & dirty welding job to reattach the gate hinges to the wall. The whole thing seemed like he was making it up as he went along. In the end, the gate is fixed in a basic way, it opens and closes more easily, but it looks sloppy and doesn’t feel very durable. Ninety minutes, $ 435, with the check not made out to Jacob, so the workman was obviously a subcontractor. Overall, the job got done, but be aware.

I didn’t meet Jacob, but I met one of the welders. And I can tell you now: they are professional. They did magic, and our security steel door can both close easily, and we can also lock it. We were rely to get a quote for a new steel door, but Jacob told me the following: let us check, this is what we do. It may or may not be repaired. But, we have 30 $ fee for a visit, and this is not negotiable… Our door is working again, and we were able to save a lot of money. If you are ok with paying 30 $ to get a visit from a pro, Jacob Iron works will be great for you.

When I called for a fence repair in Brooklyn, I was told that they have a minimum job of 250 $. But what I liked is that the person I spoke to was honest enough to tell me that there are companies in Brooklyn that won’t charge me anything for estimate, and that don’t have minimum job fee. After 3 days of waiting for one of the«other» companies to arrive, I called Jacob’s Iron works again, and asked them to send someone. The same day Jacob came to my place and fixed the gate. I paid 290 $ for the repair(It took them 2 hours), and he also painted the parts he replaced. I must say that I am very satisfied with the service, and that I got exactly what I was hoping to get. Honest and professional.

Someone accidentally hit our fence with he’s car. I searched online for a welder in Brooklyn, and I found Jacobs iron work. They send Adam to check the fence, and he told me that I have 2 options, the first is to repair the existing fence, and the second is to replace the damaged part. We decided to repair the damaged part, and agreed on the price(245 $). He came back the next morning, removed the broken part, welded it, put it back and spray painted it. Professional!

Now that the summer is here, my youngest child like to play basketball with he’s friends in our back yard. But during the last winter, one of the chain link fence got rusted, and there seem to be rusted parts coming out of it. I would ignore it, and probably replace the whole fence next year, but the fact that it is dangerous, made me look for someone who repair fences. It is not easy to find one in Brooklyn, and I am lucky I found Jacob. He was busy when I called, but promised to come during the weekend. He canon Sunday morning, and bring he’s tools with him. He is very friendly, and told me that if I will help him, he will only charge me half of the price. Of course I agreed, and after 3 hours of working, my fence was repaired, and my child can play basketball, without me worrying about him. Very nice person, and very professional.
