The food is good. But the taste of it got completely ruined by the extremely soapy flavored water that was on the bar that I helped myself to. I complained about it, and they acted like it was my fault for drinking it. It was just decorative, apparently. «No one does that» they said. Well. When a man is eating salty fish, and he runs out of water and sees a bottle of water right in front of him, he’s gonna pour it in his glass, especially if the service is so slow and inattentive that he doesn’t get fresh water poured for him. Gross.

Looks like this place is new, and I have to say that the owners try hard to please the customers. However there is a lot to work on. We had a groupon which included three ceviches and two drinks. Ceviches were delicious, however their portions are quite small. The drinks were great as well. Also it would’ve been great to have a rug or something by the entrance door because in the wet weather it’s very slippery inside and I saw too women who almost fell in there. The bartender who is also a waiter(a nice Peruvian woman) never smiles, I always thought that I did or said something that upset her. Cheer up and customers would be happier as well!!!

I’ve been here a few times and I love it more and more each time! The location is cozy and calm, perfect for a date night. The drinks are creatively yummy(not to mention strong) ! The ceviche is the best I’ve had in years. I recommend the pulpo & the mixto. The service is so friendly and attentive! This has easily become one of my favorite restaurants.

Great in theory… but could use some work. I was very intrigued by this place. Both my date and I love ceviche, so the idea of a ceviche bar sounded great, and this place had great reviews. But… I have a feeling we showed up on a bad night? Our first worry was that the place was empty at 7 O clock, but we gave them the benefit of the doubt because it was a Wednesday night in February. Our next disappointment was that they seemed to be out of half of the things on the menu! No octopus, no passionfruit, no appetizer with the ham… I don’t know! After trying to order a couple of things and being told they couldn’t make it because they were out of x, y and z, the(i believe to be) owner suggested the ceviche mixto… so we ordered that. Honestly, this dish was very tasty! I agree with the other reviewers that the seafood seemed fresh and cooked well. We are used to ceviche coming with crackers or something… but maybe I am crazy, because that’s how the waiter looked at us when we asked if they had any crackers to enjoy with the ceviche. But they did provide saltines… so fair enough! We moved on to the causa dish, which looked really great served on a piece of slate and everything, but we were totally unimpressed. It was like a lot of mashed potatoes… and kind of reminiscent of deviled eggs. The menu listed crab, but I didn’t see or taste any crab– so maybe they were out of that too. On a brighter note, we enjoyed our drinks. I got their variation of a cosmopolitan, and it was very good! All in all I really wanted to love this place! Sadly I left feeling like they really dropped the ball.

Nice approach. We enjoyed the causa and the ceviche, but tuna over rice was just ok… A bit over cooked. Excellent service.

If you love ceviche you definitely need to visit this place! I ordered the ceviche mixto, toro con palta and coconut tuna ceviche all 3 ceviches extremely delicious! I ordered 3 since the portions are significantly small. They do have good prices so it is worth the taste. I also tried their pisco sour and it was ok. I would definitely come back. The only negative comment would be that the restroom wasn’t clean.

Fresh fish, strong drinks, acceptable service and small portions about sums up my experience here. Nothing blew me out of the water food wise. The pisco sour was excellent, with a full, creamy head of egg white, just as it should have. The lomo saltado was by far their best dish with succulent, well marinated and tender beef. But a miniscule portion for the $ 20 price tag.(This was from their entrée section not Tapas.) Ceviche mixto and ceviche atun were both adequately fresh, yet uninspiring… tuna tartar with sesame oil is on basically every restaurant menu now, and it needed a bit more creative elements to spice things up. The atmosphere here had lots of nice, clean light woods and angular décor. Felt like a Japanese restaurant in that regard.

Awesome quaint spot in Williamsburg! If you are a lover of ceviche, I highly recommend this restaurant. We had the ceviche mixto which consisted of shrimp, squid, and octopus marinated in this spicy sauce. It was my favorite of the three and I would definitely recommend giving it a try! The second tapa we tried was the salmon ceviche which was my least favorite. Something about the texture of the salmon was not agreeing with my liking. The third ceviche taps we ordered was the coco tuna which is tuna in coconut ginger lime juice. I enjoyed this tapa and thought the combination of the coconut and ginger added such great flavor to the dish! For my drink, I had a strawberry mojito which was very good. The waitress/bartender was super nice and friendly. I will definitely be coming back in the near future!

love this place, service is amazing, we had the sweetest waitress ever! And the cerviches are amazing! we got a mixed plate and the toro, so amazing, cleaned my entire plate. Cocktails were good, I wouldn’t waste order on cooked shrimp considering they do the other stuff so much better!

The lady and I finally ate here after months of walking by on the way to our building across the street. We ended up kicking ourselves for sleeping on it for so long, as a) she used to frequent the old Kion, and b) it’s fantastic. Great atmosphere/food/cocktails, a beautiful wood beam bar, very friendly and passionate proprieters, and an excellent soundtrack. The ceviche is the best I’ve had since I ate some at a fish market in Lima in 2008. No joke. The owner gave us «la yapa» after we finished which cemented the place as a new favorite. The tiradito was possibly even better… I don’t know if I’ve had fresher tasting fish in Brooklyn, sushi or otherwise. The shrimp ajillo was also really good but overshadowed by the other dishes through no fault of its own. The cocktails were fresh, well crafted, and appropriately strong(tamarind margarita was my favorite). The owner told us they have live music often and will be getting al fresco seating in the spring. Luckily for us we live across the street.

*****3.5 stars**** Nice place! Location is a little tough for them — they’re in the bottom of an apartment building, a few blocks away from the heavy foot traffic of Bedford ave. but the food is very tasty, reasonably priced, and nicely seasoned. I wish I could give them 5 stars, but I just can’t because: — pisco sour was good, but not great — why, on a Saturday night when they have fun Latin music playing, do they have a tv showing the weather channel? Very bizarre — always feel it’s odd when you walk into a restaurant, esp. on a Saturday night, and you see the owner sitting at the bar just doing nothing — no desserts on the menu — quinoa salad was on menu, looked tasty, but was not available? Really? What kind of odd williamsburg are we living in that quinoa isn’t available? Overall though, it was tasty food. Great that they are on groupon. And our server — although Russian — did a really nice job steering us in the right direction for food.

This restaurant came highly recommend and it did not disappoint! They are truly experts in seafood. We had the mixto ceviche, the causa and the papas a la huancaina — all were delicious — but the salmon ceviche is unreal! We all agreed that we had never tasted anything as amazing — even back home in Peru! Kion is authentically true to a Peruvian taste palate. The traditional drinks are also delicious and do not disappoint. Everything on the menu is made to share. We’ll definitely be coming back for more!

What a great new find in this great neighborhood! We discovered Kion completely by chance and now it’s one of our favorite places to go. If you crave for ceviche you must try this place! I have not had better. A symphony of flavors and textures is how I can describe it. Add to this a sweet & sour caipirinha(or two or three) and smile appears on your face :) We tried various dishes: ceviche mixta, tuna, salmon, shrimp, etc. All were yummy!

I’ve just had the most amazing Ceviche in NYC! The fish was very fresh. My boyfriend and I came here and ordered the salmon traditional and ceviche mixto which Chef Charles prepared in our presence. It was awesome! He explained all the ingredients in our dish which I appreciated. It’s very refreshing and different to find a chef who is willing to describe and share his knowledge with his customers. We ordered the«Toro Con Polata» as our last cevich dish, and boy that was amzing! The cocktails and house sangria is well crafted and delicious. The saff and manager was also very attentive to our needs.
