Not very happy the wait was way to long. Bug in my water. Wow she is bringing one dish at a time WTF there are four of us.

It was closed in May 2015 for renovations. Cant seem to order delivery any more, which is a shame. Looks like last deliveries were in April 2015, and you can see the reviews were very poor due to slow and late delivery. I hope they fix that. Nice place to eat, but sometimes you want to eat at home.

Food was very good– but ordered delivery and it took an hour and 40 minutes, and they estimated 45 – 60. I called and they said they were backed up and a manager would call be back. No one did. No call to let me know it was late, no token for the inconvenience either. Too bad, food was good but who needs the hassle?

Had yummy octopus tacos and the cute bartender made a killer mojito. I like the local vibe and will definitely return. I hear from marie-jean, a young looking local that happy hour is great and with the return of Dave, luz is the place to be. I will definitely be back for the yummy food and drinks. Check it out.

I am generously giving two stars on this review for a few reasons. Having lived in the neighborhood for five years, I have enjoyed many very good meals and pleasant happy hours at Luz. I also ordered nearly weekly for a good chunk of time their very tasty rotisserie chicken, asparagus and filet cubes with no incident. Tonight, however, I ordered dinner at 6:45. After two phones calls to the restaurant, my family is still waiting. It’s 8:35 presently. I have asked for money back, but there is apparently no manager available to handle that, sooooo… We’re just hungry.

I came here today at 4pm for a lunch date. When we walked in there, there were no customers so we got immediate service. The kind waiter brought us water with some plantain chips and some sauce. I have no idea what that sauce was but it was delicious. I ordered the skirt steak with rice and he ordered the salmon with mashed potatoes. The food came out in about 15 mins. I HAVENOCOMPLAINTSABOUTTHEFOOD!!! My steak was sooo flavorful and the rice was delicious. And me being the girl I am, I dug into his plate also. That salmon was so good and the mashed potatoes were SLAMMIN! I honestly didn’t know they were mashed potatoes because they were green and had a different type of flavor… But none the less, it was tasty! I would definitely recommend this spot

Absolutely horrible! Delivery took almost TWO hours and when it finally arrived it was TERRIBLE! The bread for the sandwiches was a soggy inedible mess and the chicken had zero flavor and was incredibly dry. The«lobster guacamole» literally had one piece of lobster the size of a quarter. The arepas were very undercooked and hard and again, lacked flavor. No feta cheese at all. What happened to this place? Used to be so good. Never again!

The food is pretty good. Kinda pricey but good. Drinks are awesome. Try margarita or mojito. Excellent service. Bartender is really friendly and service is great.

Went friday nigth with my bff, we had some cocktails made by the waiter called(jhon) great stuff!!! The food: omg… best tacos ever nice environment… but I realized that there are not too many waiters on the floor, I saw just two. and the place was full!!. In other words, great customer service even though they were short in staff, impressive decoration, tasty food and the best cocktails, giving 4.5 stars :)

Every aspect of authentic, well-prepared Peruvian Cuisine epitomized. Luz is everything Pio Pio attempts to be.

Came here for the first time a couple of months ago on a first date. This restaurant was really cute, it was quiet so my date and I could have an actual conversation. The weather was nice enough to sit near the open windows. We had ceviche and pinchos. We also had side dishes that were asparagus and spinach. The asparagus were cold but other than that the food was great. We would definitely go back now that we’re closer. One thing that I did notice was that they have Medalla which is the beer of Puerto Rico and its a beer that is not really exported so it was nice to see a little slice of home! First date definitely picked a great restaurant!

I remember visiting here a couple years ago when the first opened up. I had the rotisserie chicken and my husband had the salmon. He recalls every bad meal. And he recalled that the salmon was dry. Fast forward to last week. I decided to order from here again(only the second time ever). I got a whole chicken and some sides to share. The chicken was delicious. Add some green sauce and it was one of the best I’ve had. The sides were good too but the portions were kinda small by my own share standards. It wasn’t enough for three people(one of my three is a toddler). It did end up being enough but I feel as though the sides are over priced for the amount you get. I’m willing to return here and try the salmon again. And whatever else is on the menu.

Went here with a party of 8 to celebrate a birthday(not mine thankfully). Our server and the support staff did not seem prepared to handle a party of 8 — there were several times when food seemed to be trying to be delivered to our table that we did not order. There were long waits between refills of water and it was difficult to get the server’s attention. When the main course was served there was additional confusion as to whose entrée was whose. One of the craziest things I have ever experienced in a restaurant was with the wine. We ordered a wine and not only were served a totally different bottle without being told it was different but when we asked about it we were told they substituted a wine they thought was«close» to what we had ordered(which it was not). When asking to look at the wine list to get something else they were out of 3 – 4 of the red wines on their wine list that only contained 6 – 7. Now I get that many places think of wine as an after thought but this was really ridiculous. To make things even more odd wine glasses were removed without people being asked when they still had some wine in it. The only redeeming thing about this place was the food — folks in our party primarily had the flank steak and the salmon. The vegetarian enchiladas were not good but the rice and beans were decent. Desserts — particularly the tres leches were good. I would never come back to this restaurant in spite of the food being decent. The service was truly worse than mediocre and it was painful to be forced to leave 20% since we were a party of 8. Having worked as a server for several years I understand the importance of adding a tip for parties and I get that working groups can be a challenge — however none of the things that contributed to the service being poor seem particularly linked to the party size.

Where to begin… This was my second time coming here and it didn’t disappoint. Although we were the only ones here at 12pm the wait was long but that can be attributed to the intense order we placed. The custom dip was a well seasoned marriage that complimented the calamari, shrimp, and scallops which were perfectly fried, and the dipping sauce was a well seasoned marriage. I had to ask the server how it was made, that’s how delicious it was. the salmon was well seared and maintained the right amount of moisture-something I have yet figured out how to do. Finally, the cilantro mashed potatoes appeared to be mashed avocados, but the taste proved otherwise. it was creamy with small bits of potatoes, which reassured me that it was home made and not straight out of the box.

Service can be slow and items overpriced but Taco Tuesday is a decent deal and the drinks are awesome! Great ambiance and menu selection.

First off, the rice and beans are SO perfect. I’ll never learn the secret to these perfect beans(maybe a bay leaf?). The arepas are too die for, but the serving is small.

Wow. When I heard we were doing«Peruvian» tonight I thought about those little(and delicious) little chicken places in Elizabeth NJ. Well… it turned out to be a big surprise. First of all, the resident bartender(incredibly handsome btw), knew how to make a cocktail. I have had many margaritas in my day(many…they are my thing), and I can tell you he has mastered the ratio of tequila to lime. It was perfect. Others in my party were treated to unique drinks off the menu(aquardiente with passion fruit and cinnamon… OMG it was good). Then came dinner. I had the skirt steak. It was perfection. The accompaniments, the rice mix, asparagus, and maduro… delicious. Then came my surprise herradura(my favorite tequila) and passion fruit margarita. Convert!!! At the end we had a chocolate molten dessert and a cappuccino to send me off into the streets of Brooklyn with a kick and a laugh. I will be back. This place rocks. It reminds me of NYC in the early 2000s. The music is chic(house!) and the ambiance is modern without being too obnoxious. Sexy, yummy and cool.

I’m smitten. I really like Peruvian food and typically stick to the chicken to get a feel of the restaurant but I wanted to branch out tonight. The ambiance is very nice and I can imagine really enjoying the vibe for a happy hour or larger gathering. Dim not dark, nice Latin flair from the music at the perfect level. Any quieter and it’s too low but any louder it’d be competing with my dinner companion. I read that service was an issue but I personally like polite but not in my face, always asking do I need anything wait staff. I’ll call you if I need you and I know we aren’t friends. It’s a friendly business transaction. The complimentary starter is plantain chips and like a jammy salsa. A tomato base with some sweet and tang and light spice. We ordered the vampirita which was a delicious ginger rum and the luz colada which had passion fruit. I will definitely come just for appetizers and drinks. Well mixed and not watered down. My entrée was the lamb chops with butternut squash mashed potatoes, collards and blood orange. The collards were so light and spinach like which offset the lambiness of the lamb. It was very strong flavor without being over seasoned. The natural flavors were brought out well to do their thing instead of a bunch of seasoning added on top. It was 3 medium chops so the serving is hearty without going overboard. Go hungry but don’t expect leftovers. My friend had the filet mignon with asparagus and truffle mushroom Mac n cheese. It was cooked perfectly medium and the whole meal portioned well. The Mac was delicious. I ended with the molten lava cake and honeyed bananas. I started eating and liking bananas in my 20s after hating them before and these really make me happy I changed my ways. The cake was rich but not too dense. I will come here over and over again.

I have been to Luz twice, once for a friend’s birthday get-together where I only had drinks, and another time to meet my friend for cocktails where we eventually also ate — my friend is addicted to this place. To start off, the drinks(Sangria, Capirinha, Mojito) are tasty, but a bit pricey — sort of like Manhattan cocktail prices unfortunately in Brooklyn. The atmosphere is nice, not great for large groups of people, but nice for a date or small group of friends. It is a nice vibe. The food rounds out a nice experience at Luz. The chicken is well marinated, juicy, and very tasty. The sides were very delectable as well. I am looking forward to coming back and checking out the brunch which has been receiving rave reviews.

Can a meal change your life? I dare say it can. Yesterday, I met up with a couple of girlfriends to dine at Luz. I was desperately fighting(and almost losing) a cool weather meets PMS inspired bad mood, when I walked into the restaurant. The low key(and pretty intimate) spot, was sprinkled with neighborhood regulars, some chatting away at the bar, others sharing appetizers at tables. We sat briefly and waited for our third who arrived shortly thereafter. Once seated and outfitted with menus and a snack sized bowl of plantain chips, I took a couple of minutes to look over the chef’s offerings. Every item listed sounded delicious, but the description of the BBQ lamb over pureed sweet potatoes sounded exquisite and that is what I ordered. along with a Pisco Sour of the mango variety. The drink was good, but my dinner was divine. The lamb — savory, flavorful and tender — and the sweet potato purée — smooth, buttery and sweet — pair together to make the perfect bite.(Dear Unilocalers, this dish is rustic elegance.) By the end of my meal, I was in an endorphin-induced state of happiness, completely over my cold weather blues and completely in love with Luz. So, okay, perhaps Luz didn’t change my life, but it sure made life a little better that day. Go here and make your mouth happy.
