Delicious! Came here for dinner on a Saturday evening. I was worried the wait would be long but luckily we were seated right away. I think they’re more of a brunch destination. If you haven’t been here, do it! The vibe is really cute. Wooden interiors, bar or communal seating and shelves full of merchandise that they sell(I saw sea salt hair spray and leather goods — there was a note on their shelf that said they sell bags made from leather from the animals they serve in the kitchen). Food tastes fresh and is savory without the heavy. We ordered the oysters, soup, kale salad, pizza, beef tartare and pâté. Would recommend all of the above! All their oysters are from the east coast so they were brine-y to my liking(though on the pricey side for oysters), soup and kale salad were flavorful and flight, pizza came with delightful fluffy foccacia like bread, beef tartare was paired with juicy asparagus and pâté was delish. We heard portions were pretty big so we basically only ordered appetizers(everything but the burrata) and wanted to leave room for the chocolate caramel tarte(yum!). In summary, great meal! Will come back sometime to try their brunch menu.

Went for lunch at Frieze where they only had a limited menu. I got grilled ramps over morel and polenta and it was the most uninspired dish ever. Combination of ingredients did not make sense and flavors seriously clashed with each other. Morel was dry and overcooked. Polenta was too soupy. Why would you throw parsley leaves on top of all that? Very bad way for me to drop $ 36.

The whitefish bagel is awesome. I tend to avoid pastries but they look pretty damn good. The eggs are good but everything should be 1 – 2 dollars cheaper. I’ve come here for dinner on a couple of dates before and they went great(but they always do of course :)) Nothin else to say about it so don’t ask

We arrived on a rainy Sunday for brunch around 1pm. We were seated right away, which is a rarity for NYC Sunday brunch spots. The waitress wasn’t overly friendly, but she answered our questions very thoroughly. We split a scone, which had hints of cinnamon. The rhubarb jam was really delicious! For main, I got the Poached Eggs dish, which is poached eggs on top of toasted baguette. The eggs were cooked very well. I wish that there was more on the menu, or more items I could’ve ordered on the side because I wasn’t fully satisfied. I think I need to come back for the sticky bun though. It looked amazing!

Timeout best of list review… Very cute spot with outdoor seating. Unfortunately they were out of bagels by 12:30p which was a bummer since that is what we came for — bagel with whitefish salad. Instead we are having it on rye and the rye bread was fantastic! We loved the dish and would have it again. Baked eggs with broccoli was amazing! It was crunchy deliciousness. It went well with the rye and whitefish.

This place gives me chills from the incredible mixture of flavors, lighting, music, people and overall ambiance. I love that their menu changes daily, which provides a new unique experience every time. The dim lighting taps into all your senses, so when you taste the food, it bursts with awesomeness. The mixture of drinks and food always ignites an incredible dining experience. I absolutely love coming here. I’ve never been disappointed with service which has always been attentive, polite and very friendly, it’s as if you are part of the family. The food has so much flavor and so much artistic savor that it never disappoints. Marlow and Sons is a dining adventure every time and I love it!

I took my mum here recently for her birthday. Loved the ambiance and spectacular service. Great wine selection and delicious cocktails that weren’t too sweet(how we like them). We had several courses including a dozen oysters(YUM), several appetizers and entrées. The chicken liver patè is a must… and the dark chocolate and caramel tart was divine… so many layers of flavors. Our only complaint was the sauces on the entrées(swordfish and brick chicken) were heavy handed on the salt. Otherwise, a perfect night.

Service was great and overall an amazing experience. The low lighting in the room makes for a very romantic and intimate setting. It started with choosing the wine. Tasted two but fell in love with the lard de choix. Every sip was an enjoyment. The oysters were unbelievable and the main dish was really good too. Didn’t love the panacota, but it was really worth it, the whole experience. I came back during the day and got a bread pudding with lemon custard which was delicious.

I love brick chicken, but this one was kinda average and overpriced at that. The bodega near by usually makes a pretty good one if not better for 6 times less. The edge of my chicken kinda tasted like fish, you do get a half chicken, but if you only eat white or dark meat then it’s really $ 28 for a ¼ chicken with some wilted greens. No bread or side accompaniments. Server was kinda slow and blasé, other employees were chipper and sweet. Overall, thinking back on it, I feel ripped off. I work near by and have popped in for baked goods. Nothing memorable except for the hefty price. I kinda forgot about the place til a colleague reminded me it exists. I was better off having forgotten it…

We came here a long time ago and somehow never managed to return until now, even though I had wanted to for a while since I had really good memories of it. Unfortunately, this visit was a little disappointing. Good things first — the $ 35 mezzo plate was awesome. We were really hungry and just plowed through it. It offered a nice variety of appetizers in one go. The sea bass was out of this world. That bed of fried rice… mm mm mm. Not-so-great things: dining room was way too dark for us to see what we’re eating. I would’ve like to see what was actually contained in the big mound of mezze. And would’ve appreciated some visibility to the brick chicken so that I could cut away some of the skin & fat. I hate dark dining rooms. Also, a few things were over-salted. Wish chefs would taste their dishes before sending out to customers. The café area up front looked really cute. This would be a really nice place during the day, with light streaming in. On our way out, we were given a goodie bag that had some baked goods. That was a nice surprise. We thoroughly enjoyed the cake and muffins at home. Thank you!

Trendy spot with a great ambiance in Williamsburg. Cool vibe and good feeling when you enter the place. Coffee was good. Food was better! We had an amazing sausage egg biscuit and a baked eggs mmmmm mmmm. This place is a culinary must when in the area. I’m looking forward to other meals.

Glasses on table upside down unnecessarily — not a great health consideration. Mixed food quality. Skip the pastries, get the breakfast/brunch dishes.

This little local café is full of surprises. The great tables outside are supported by a large number inside. There is a good coffee service supported by a ever changing selection of thoughtful selected ever changing quality beens. The staff is knowledgeable and provide a range of tools for making coffee at home and provide a good selection of beens. There is a large collection of takeaway food to have with your coffee and full table with a menu for brunch and dinner. They specialise in oysters and have a good selection of cheese. They regularly have special guest chefs and dinners that can be booked. But the best thing about this place is the staff they have a passion for knowledge and quality and they really care for there customer so please don’t be afraid to ask.

Marlow has been a local favorite of mine for years but I’ve practically lived here for the last 18 months as I moved in across the street. I’d never have survived this construction zone of an area if it wasn’t for this place! How do I love thee? Oh, let me count the ways… 1-the staff is like a family and some of the loveliest humans you’ll come across. endlessly accommodating, knowledgeable and kind. 2-the music is ALWAYS on point(nothing like starting your day with a perfect americano and ‘what a fool believes’ tastefully bumpin on the speakers) 3-coffee is always excellent and single handedly powers most days! 4-ok, food. where to begin? I’m an ingredient snob. I care deeply about food quality, sustainable and local farming, ethical meat sourcing etc,. I can eat anything at Marlow and know it’s top notch. I can even waltz down the street and take a look for myself at the seasonal ingredients they’re using at Marlow and Daughters which is their sister grocer & butcher shop offering beautiful local produce as well as a wonderful selection of sustainable meats, cheeses & other goodies. But back to the sons, the menu is small but always outstanding! The chefs are so talented and creative, always leading the palette to new places, allowing the beauty of each ingredient to shine. 5-the wines are superb. you can always find something interesting to fit your mood! Truth be told, it’s not easy on the pocket, especially if you’re a strange & perhaps insane breed like me who justifies going broke on lavish breakfasts, lunches and dinners by ‘living in the moment.’ But, this place has brought me so much joy that I am willing to accept a lower bank balance in exchange for the warmth and satisfaction of the experiences. For less obsessive patrons and any seasoned quality restaurant goers, especially in NYC, nothing should drain the bank balance any more than so many other places, which often offer pomp & hype with little other to stand on. Marlow is a very special place and truly one of a kind. The countless hours I’ve spent here will always stay close to the heart :)

Wow wow wow! Went here over the summer for lunch. A friend just moved to the area, so he convinced me to make the trip to Brooklyn and wow. We had fresh oysters and sparkling wine to start, he had an amazing sandwich and I had the trout. The menu was small, so not overwhelming, and the portions manageable so we could try a few things. The dining room is adorable and service is thoughtful. Our server sensed the food was taking too long to arrive(it wasn’t really though), so she brought us some wine on the house. Just a great experience all around, I’m a big fan. We went to Marlow and Daughters afterwards for espresso then Diner the next day. Yes, that is how great everything is, you cannot keep me away! Wow.

On coffee alone this is a 5. I had two cups. It tasted really nice. Got some fruit hints and a well done roast. On scone rating I’d give it a 5 again. Super good. And the blonde baker bringing them out was cute. One the sausage, egg, and cheese. I’ll give it a 5 as well. The sausage was a good flavor and was a lil spicy.(Imagine like black pepper spiced) the biscuit flaked off in your mouth. I like the outdoor seating. I was here Sunday at 8am. No wait, no line. Good place and Arnold Shorts(sic) said, «I’LLBEBACK»

I was very very disappointed with my last two meals here. They’ve completely lost me as a supporter. Maybe I’m just not Brooklyn enough but I don’t get it. It’s loud cramped and uncomfortable. The food is small, underwhelming and very expensive. It’s like they are trying to be too cool for their own good. Hey at least they’ll fit right in the neighborhood. Save yourself and go to Traif down the street instead.

As a first date night trip to Brooklyn, this establishment is a great place to go with your long term S. O, rather than a first date(unless you don’t want to talk to them much). The only reason I say this is because during dinner service, the dining room is incredibly loud which makes it hard to communicate. My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday night, and had the most wonderful experience. The ambiance(other than the level of noise) was cozy and intimate. I thought the candles were a great touch. Our server was very helpful– I described to her what kind of red wine I like and she gave me a perfect suggestion. We then started with the Burrata– I could not believe how great the cheese tasted. I remember thinking that there was no way I’d enjoy my meal as much as the Burrata. BUT then I ordered the Swordfish Steak. The Swordfish dish was absolutely incredible. The purée sauce complimented the dish to perfection. Every bite seemed like it was melting in my mouth and only getting better and better. My Beau ordered the Brick Chicken dish, which he very much enjoyed, but he was a bit jealous of my Swordfish. We ended the night with the chocolate/caramel/salt pie. Again, AMAZING! I think after everything, the bill was around $ 120– pretty standard for NYC and totally worth it! The food was so well prepared and recipes well thought out, it exceeded expectations for a date night out on the town. Highly recommend!

Still can’t believe it’s so highly rated. Maybe being graded on a curve, maybe a bad day for us. I mean 4 Stars, in NYC? no way. Maybe 4 Stars when compared to any of the restaurants on the 4 corners of that intersection. My issues: — We ordered drinks. All drinks came, friend waited patiently and had to ask(remind) them for his again after a long while. Then his drink(a bottle of cider) came. — We ordered food. 3 Dishes came out, a couple minutes later 2 dishes came out(now waiting on one more main), 5 mins go by and they come out with a «complimentary» soup because the last dish(striped bass) is taking so long. Then at least 15 minutes later the last dish comes out, and when it does, the guy puts it in the middle of the table, not even in front of the person whose meal it was… and the rest of us are almost done. — Lastly, the cuts of meat used in their short rib main were among the worst cuts of meat I have ever seen. In retrospect, and if my friend didn’t pick the place, I should have send it back. The cuts/quality of what they decided to serve in that main is the kicker. No decent place, that cared, would have ever served that, Thanks, J

This place consistently amazes and delights. Flavor combinations that one wouldn’t think would work — but do. Sunny side up eggs with green beans, garlic scape and Serrano ham? Deeeeliscious! Chicken liver pâté to die for. Brunch or dinner –The fish specials always are spot on. Neighborhood feel — fine dining quality food. Also, everyone that works there is quite nice!

Stopped in for brunch in a jet lagged haze. Delicious poached eggs with some excellent additions — butter beans and nettles for example all topped off with tasty coffee and a nice place to sit out on the street. Must return to try out the cozy bar out back.

Why did it take me so long? Marlow & Sons is a favorite amongst almost everyone I care about in New York. Given most people make decisions based off of recommendations alone, it’s strange I’ve ignored them thus far. I’m sorry, everyone. The beauty is in the simplicity. Breakfast offerings are limited, but they’re all done so well. The coffee drinks are perfect, their variety of breakfast biscuits are delicious(don’t miss the bacon, egg, and cheese option), and the soft boiled eggs with sprouted rye bread makes for a delicious start to the day. Arguably these are three items anyone with a pulse could make at home, but I promise you they taste better here. Suck it, arm chair sous chefs. Go back to watching The Chew. Now that I’m a breakfast pro, lunch and dinner have to happen immediately. Gotta make up for lost time and all…

Their bartender is a sweet-haht. Reall funny, and real strong drinks. This establishment gave me exactly what I needed… two strong gin martini’s before heading off to their sister restaurant Diner next door. Really nice space, kind of a cool entrance through a store… nice long bar. Fresh seafood /oyster bar. Loved what I saw, will be back for more.

Such a great little spot of artisanal Brooklyn snacks. I love to pop in here for a snack. I go to Diner when I’m raaaaavenous. So if you feel like poncing out on some fiddle fern or abalone cerviche SMALLPLATES this could be your happy place. I tend more towards the hand crafted beverages and the front café. They have almond milk(not soy, too pedestrian) which is a really nice touch in a coffee I’ve learned. Also a good place to come for a proper hot chocolate but only when it is snowing! Baked good are next level, of course. Ask about them, they have stories to tell before you dunk them in your latte. Staff are darling, laid back, over educated and cool. Sorta like me. Ok, I gotta go to Acne for a new beanie now. Byyyyye.
