So on this past sunday i went to the brooklyn pier 5(Smorgasboard) and i found a jamaica sausage stand that sells their product at the stands. I noticed the lady was grilling the sausages in a custom half barrel grill, that was half grill and half a smoker. Awesome, machine. The sausages are freshly made and served in a hot dog bun. This was no regular sausage, i was having a caribean sausage with an attitude. The first bite was crunchy casing, that imediately releases the pork goodness juices of the filling, followed by a subtle variety of spices and garlic. Just when you thought that was it, at the end you get a slight wave of heat. I am willing to say that the heat probably came from a scotch bonnet pepper. For now they wouldnt sell me a box of sausages, they are that good that i wanted to get a box. The nice lady at the stand gave me a business card and told me that a web site is coming soon and that in the mean time i wiuld have to go to their store. Cant wait to check out the store, so i can grill them at home. All i was missing was potato salad, and a good german beer to seal the deal! This product has potential for greatness. For now they have the right ingredients but they need to develop sauce and probably some type of vegetable that can envigorate the presentation. The sausage alone is good but something is still missing. At the very least some type of cole slaw that can either enhance or blend with the flavors of the sausage.

Tried this today at Brooklyn Smorgasburg and I wasn’t impressed. The sausage was dry and lacked taste and flavor. The only bright spark was the Roasted Pineapple Habanero Sauce. The dog needs a lot of work. For a stall that only serves Jerk Dogs a lot more should be done to make the snack an appetizing one. I only received a dry dog on a dry roll with some sauce on top. There should at least be some Lettuce, Tomatoes, and Chess added to make it a much more savory bite. NEEDSWORK!

If you like spicy, they got scotch bonnet spicy, if you like sweet, the roasted pineapple sausage is not too sweet. Having had both kinds at Brooklyn’s Smorgasburg and ordered some for home, I can tell you they’re delicious. I especially enjoy the sweet sausage with mango salsa, and then a bit of hot sauce on top. Man, that’s some delicious jerk chicken sausage. If we had a grill, I’d grill them all summer. They’re so nice grilled, a little smoke really brings out the deeper flavors. Still, cooked in a frying pan, as I’ve done at home, is good too.

I live in Greensboro NC and order them from NY. This has to be the best sausage i’ve eaten. Breakfast, Lunch or Diner it truly hits the spot.
