MT’s is one of few bars in the area with a big, open space. That plus its large windows make the actual venue very cool and easy for impromptu group get togethers. Bartenders were very friendly and the beer selection was awesome(Hell or High Watermelon on tap, great move.) We were there on the earlier side and they had free bagels and cream cheese for folks, which was a nice gesture.

great neighborhood bar with great owner, bartenders, specialty drinks, draft beer, snacks, tv projector in back for sporting events. This was a two minute walk from my old place in Williamsburg. for $ 7 I would get this delicious chocolatey, oatmeal stout and it was delicious. I’m originally LA, so I watched LA Kings games at this bar late night and the owner was super friendly. Met some interesting people here as well. The crowd is eclectic and it’s just a really chill vibe.

When I’m meeting up with beer-loving friends I always suggest Matt Torrey’s! Service: I haven’t struck up many conversations with the bartenders. They’ve usually seemed more concerned that my friends and I are all actually 21 than anything else, but I get that they have a business to protect. On one occasion when I invited a friend who doesn’t like beer the bartender was nice enough to allow her to sample different types. He ultimately found her the fruitiest beer they have and she still didn’t like it, but it was a great gesture and now you know that there is a super sweet beer in house. Drinks: Yay to craft beer! I love that so many of the available options are locally brewed and the menu does a great job of describing tastes to both my beer-loving and my beer-iffy friends. I come here willing to pay for quality beer. Ambiance: Dimly lit with great big windows for people watching, if you so choose. I’ve always experienced an average noise level for a bar, even late at night, which makes it easy to carry a conversation with friends comfortably. The open area just around the corner from the bar offers booth seating for bonding with larger sized groups and is nice and cozy. Crowd: Friendly — — I’ve never had a negative experience. When the bar is more packed it seems to age from people in their early twenties to mid-thirties. On one occasion there was a woman giving out free pizza from a rehearsal event to bar customers. Restrooms: Even on more busy nights the bathrooms have remained decently clean. The bathrooms are private and outside of them is a larger communal area for washing hands. Overall: When I want to drink beer, I come to Matt Torrey’s. If you’re looking to get wild this might not be the place, but come to grab a laid-back drink and chat.

Awesome craft beer selection and a really friendly bartender. He let me sample a few beers before I ordered as well. It was really quiet when I went, around 9 on a Thursday night. I missed happy hour but my beer was still only $ 7 and I think they have weekend specials as well. It’s a great space, huge windows and nice seating for groups in the back. I love the atmosphere, it’s spacious, comfortable, and well decorated. I definitely would have stayed for another drink but it’s cash only and I was running out. The friendly bartender tried to tempt me with live bluegrass that was starting later that night. I’ll definitely be back!

Review of bartender Stephanie(I think, the blond haired chick) Attitude problem less than normal for a Sunday(and a woman). Snazzy dresser, I dig the grunge vibe. Hard to find people willing to wear that anymore around here. Refreshing. I really liked the choice of music played, when I could hear it over her consistently yapping angelic voice. Fast woman indeed, from drinks to change to food to? If there was a sixth star… I would give it to her. ! Damn solid bartenderess.

One of my favorite bars of all time. The inside is absolutely stunning! This really is the perfect bar to hang out in ALLTHETIME! Great when the weather is nice and the windows are open. Great when it’s winter and you can watch the snow and just relax. I actually had my baby shower here! This place has it all. Beautiful atmosphere, tvs to watch football, good snacks, awesome beer selection, and kick ass bartenders.

Don’t you want to go where everybody knows your name? Well, at least you’d like a good pint. Thankfully, you’ll get both here. Stephanie rocks and Matt Torrey himself can be seen behind the bar from time to time. Perfect for an afternoon pint. Great for a quick bite.

This place is so great. The layout allows for huddling in a cozy corner or sitting out front at the huge windows watching people go by. Staff is always friendly, specials are hard to beat. Sandwiches if you could use a simple bite, and free bagels on weekends. It’s a perfect place for a lazy Sunday afternoon when you just want to pop in somewhere without managing the logistics of brunch.

Glad I found this spot, it’s so close to the L train. This bar spot is ultra clean. I sipped on the El Diablo, silver tequila with ginger beer, refreshing and a nice change from my usual and casual Margarita. The bartender was friendly and surely knows how to make the drinks. Now One of my new spots.

Matt Torrey’s is the home away from home. This bar is comfortable and quality. The staff is excellent as well as the fine beverages they choose to offer on the menu, or requested. If anyone ever has a problem, rethink it, maybe you just had one too many. Matt the owner is open to your suggestions but this isn’t a place, like a made to order deli. If that’s what you want, go to a pub in the city. I can usually get a good drink and make a new friend. What more can you ask for in a bar? The game or music or event fill in the blank specials, hit the spot in a good way. I would take my mother or father here as well as a date, or company party. Hands down my favorite spot!

This bar is incredible! My husband and I wanted a low key wedding reception here, and it couldn’t have been better. Matt Torrey is such a great person, who was so accommodating and helpful when it came to planning our party. If you are ever looking to rent out a bar — this is the place to do it! The prices are superb and the atmosphere is incredible. Everyone at our party can’t stop talking about this awesome place! The beer selection is great, and the staff are so polite. Thank you Matt!!!

many bars have as good of a selection, bar food, and TV’s like matt torrey’s does. The things that set it apart. 1.) the bartendars are usually great. I’ve had a few downers over the years, but overall they are super friendly and accomadating. 2.) the fact they can open all the enourmous windows to make it virtually an out door bar in the spring/summer really adds to the experience. Great place.

I drink here pretty much every Sunday religiously. Bloody marys are delicious, bagels are free(FREE) on weekends and the toppings are super yummy.(!) The bartenders are really sweet, conversational, make a strong(STRONG) drink and like to shoot the breeze with you. Go there on a sunny day and sit by the window-they’ll be open and you’ll be able to justify you being inside on such a nice day. It’s cash only so make sure to hit the Chase right down the street on Bushwick and Grand. Prepare for a good sandwich also because they make a pretty good meaty/cheesy combo in different iterations.

For a variety of reasons, this has become my favorite bar in the city. Every bartender is super friendly, and totally solid in drink-making capabilities. The beer selection is fantastic, and changes fairly regularly. Prices are totally reasonable, with $ 1 off drinks during happy hour(until 8pm). On weekends, bloody Marys and mimosas are $ 4, and free bagels are available. Also, free on Monday nights free vegan chili. Since this place isn’t on a main drag, you tend to see a local(and loyal) crowd. The staff clearly gets to know the regulars, and it makes for a great vibe. The décor is simple, but homey, and on nice days, the front windows are opened and it’s about as close to sitting outside as you could imagine. Here’s to a long life for Matt Torrey’s.

Oh I have to visit this place again… totally forgot to write a review months ago when I came, but never too late, I have nice things to say. I found this place walking around with my friend. I really liked it. It was one of those nights where we just wanted a drink and some quiet time. It’s really hard to move me away from my Amaretto Sours, but I decided to look at their cocktail menu and they have some pretty interesting mixes, absolutely delicious. I wasn’t crazy about the Cuban sandwich, it was okay but as a part Caribbean-hispanic, I am very picky with my food! But whatever, it’s a bar and like I said, their drinks were tasteful! Who was bartending? Matt! He was the only one behind the bar as it was a slow and quiet night but he’s very wonderful. And the man obviously knows how to mix drinks! Sweet, swift and CLEAN. He cleans all messes immediately, very attentive to detail. Very nice environment, like I said very clean. And spacious. I wonder how it would be on a packed night. The atmosphere felt very intimate, I don’t know, maybe it was just how I was feeling that night. I shall visit some time soon again when I’m in the neighborhood, get one of those specialty drinks!

I’m going to be totally selfish and say this is an awesome bar where the only downside is it’s lack of proximity to my awesome neck of the woods. The full glass front and dark wood décor is pretty awesome and the backroom is sufficiently dark and intimate. They’ve got the usual assortment of drink specials, including a couple lifted from other local haunts(who in turn probably lifted it from other bars and so on). Definitely one of the coolest bars in the area.

Nice décor, super clean, and friendly bartenders… what more can you ask from a local bar. Went to watch some football games with some friends here on a Sunday. It being a more local bar wasn’t super crowded like some of the places in the city. There’s a large projector screen showing the main game in the back and two other TV’s by the bar. Large selection of local beers on tap and other unique beers. A lot of drink specials of different drink specials. Only drawback is the limited food options. They do have like 4 – 5 sandwiches they kinda make. We did try some of them and they were kinda just average. Too expensive for the price of what you get. I’d stick to the drinks Overall great place to hang out on a lazy sunday to catch some games or grab some drinks if you’re nearby.
