Olde Brooklyn Bagel Shoppe

Being celiac is hard and gluten-​free bagels are often hard as well. But Olde Brooklyn Bagel Shoppe make those l better by toasting them in a separate toaster so they’re at least warm and there’s no cross contamination. Nice guys behind the counter, too.

Possibly the best bagels I’ve ever had: soft and chewy on the inside, with a nice crunch on the outside. Nice and fluffy – not too dense! Normally I find bagels to be dry and have to add cream cheese, lox, etc., but these are perfectly good plain! Good coffee, too. Been stopping here on the way to the train every day.

Great bagel shop with lots of different types on offer. The place is tiny so it can be hard to find a seat but how good the bagels are makes up for it.

Awesome cheap bagels. Enjoy! Great selection of bagels and sandwiches, etc. I just got some plain bagels to go and they didn’t even make me wait in the long line. They called me up to the register. Totally cool.

Gave them another try, this place is trash. We threw our sandwiches out and went somewhere else.

This place is around the corner at the end of block from where my sister lives in Prospect Hights so I decided to try it out.
The shop is small and the interior reminds me of the Rue De La Course that’s inside an old 1930’s bank. There was a line which annoys some people, but I generally don’t mind because it means the food is good enough to line up for.
I ordered the everything bagel w/​bacon, egg, and cheese. I must say though, they have SO MANY ways to customize a bagel, (or sandwich if that’s your thing) that it is a bit overwhelming, i.e. at least 12 different types of cream cheese. They even have a «cream cheese of the week»!
The bagel was good, very fresh, and so were the bacon and eggs, but they were stingy (see pics) on the ‘everything’ topping! C’mon, why couldn’t y’all hook it?
Also, something that took me by surprise (and that you should know if you haven’t been) is that they only accept cash. I looked around on my way out and didn’t see a sign anywhere saying that, but who knows, maybe I missed it. Overall, despite the surprise with cash and the stingy toppings, I enjoyed the bagel and think this is a great little bagel place.

ZERO STARS !!! Horrible service ! I had been waiting 15 mins for 2 egg sandwiches and a bagel ! When I asked a person behind the counter to inquire about if they could check on my order, (very nicely BTW) the man working (I believe he is the manager son) told me that they were very busy, and called me a lair to my face, that I did not wait 15 mins. Then after another 5 mins I finally got my food for a total of 20 mins.
I ask if I could speak to manager because of the horrible customer service, (you NEVER EVER argue with a customer when they are asking a question, it’s the first rule in the service business) ! I was told he was not working. A very short extremely rude girl who works at the bagel place, ask what was wrong. I explained in a nice way what had happened, I said that large guy working was acting like a total jerk and had treated a me with complete disrespect and very poor customer service, (don’t tell the customer he’s dumb for asking to check on an order) This little short girl in front of other customers starting yelling at me in her complete «GHETTO «speech «Don’t be like calling peoples names» YELLING at me ! With 15 people standing around, cause the food takes so long !! I’m sensing a theme. The little short girl again Yelling «don’t be like coming up in here with your problems be like calling people names» embarrassing !! What kinda of place is this !
I will be contacting the owners to inquire more about how his 2 employees are the worst I have ever seen in my life ! I have been in the food service business for 20 years I have never seen anything like this in my life ! It was complete joke !!!
Do not go to this place !! Unless you want to wait 20 mins plus be insulted by their employees and the best part their FOOD TOTALLY Is DISGUSTING! Food is garbage to many good spot in this neighborhood and Park slope to deal with this nonsense

Two stars for the good variety of sandwiches and cream cheese offered.
The problem is that without fail my order is not executed correctly and the service is generally disorganized. Wrong ingredients on my sandwich, wrong change — I once went in for two bagels (not cut or toasted) and two small sides of cream cheese. This is an order that shouldn’t take more than a few minutes with the amount of staff they have. I go to pay after ordering and then stand and watch as they proceed to make four other orders that were placed after mine (all sandwiches) and then finally, after I asked about my order, start mine. I finally get it and sure enough it is wrong. Instead of a poppy seed and everything bagel, it’s an everything and whole wheat bagel. Doesn’t sound like a big deal, but I was home by the time I discovered it. It wouldn’t be a problem if it happened once in a while, but it happens every time. I try to avoid it for this reason. It’s too bad, the cream cheese is so good.

These guys rock gluten free bagels. This should show up on search more. Gluten free. Gluten free. Yay!

If it’s middling bagels and high prices you like, this might be your joint. That or shitty attitude. Somehow, every time I come here at least one person behind the counter gives me some of that old-​fashioned New York shit, only without the charm.

Pretty sad bagel at a pretty high price. Ordered my hang-​over go to which is Bacon, cream cheese and onion on a toasted egg bagel. That and a small coffee was 7 bucks, and they only take cash. In comparison I get that from a place in TriBeCa of all places and it is $ 5. Bagel was toasted to oblivion and kinda of crushed. Usually in NYC I need to worry about how much cream cheese they put on but this place used barely any. And to add insult to injury the bacon was limp and sad.
No one likes sad bacon — get your shit together.

The One guy accepting orders was great, but the other at the register was absolutely clueless, bumbling through an order for a banana nut muffin he insisted didn’t exist. Decent $ 2.50 toasted everything bagel with cream cheese.

I’m from Detroit, so what do I know about New York bagels?
These seemed legit. Not as dense as I remember real Jewish style bagels being but none the less good. The lox cream cheese spread had too much dill for my tastes though, over powered the salmon, imho.

This place has amazing bagels. They’re always fresh: don’t bother getting them toasted. Great selection of beverages and cream cheeses as well. Service can be a bit slow and it’s cash only, but there is an ATM and they’re reasonably priced. :)

They have GLUTEN FREE BAGELS! But I’m not sure they are made in house. Either way they have them and they are not that bad! Go with the roasted garlic spread and enjoy. Also notice the picture– you won’t feel sooooo bad for eating one as they are little bagels.
And the price is right! A good alternative to an over priced egg on toast for $ 8 – 11 across the street. (Milk?)

My boyfriend and I were on the hunt for a good bagel before the Chelsea FC game. We stumbled upon this place and were so happy we did. Olde Brooklyn Bagel Shoppe hosts an assortment of cream cheese a.k.a. the pathway to my heart. Bacon scallion cream cheese was a winner!

I ordered a sandwich here on Friday and was fine with my order. Turkey, cheddar, avocado, sprouts, and mustard stuffed into a plain bagel. The amount of avocado was small but the pricing was good and the bagel itself was really good. I wasn’t impressed by the overall sandwich and I wasn’t disappointed.
Overall, the way I felt about the sandwich is the way I feel about Olde Brooklyn Bagel Shoppe. The temperature was out-​of-​control hot inside but it was a surprisingly warm fall day and they are also making bagels, so I can’t really blame them.
They have a good selection of chips and drinks to go with their bagel concoctions which is nice. Everything is priced a little higher than I would like, except the solo bagels, which I will get the next time I go.
The place is cash only, which I should have checked before I went. Ugh.
Overall, not a terrible place to grab food in the area but not strongly recommended either.

I’ve been here a few times and have enjoyed the bagels. Usually the service is slow, but with cash only and a weekend crowd I can understand. Today was the worst though. I ordered four bagels from the list offered. Waited 15 minutes to check in to see how the order was coming along. The owner’s son was at the register and said he would check. He went in the back and didn’t come back out for 10 more minutes. So I asked the woman who took his place. When I asked if the order for me was coming up she said she didn’t know and didn’t know what I ordered. I get she’s not telepathic so didnt know my order. That said, I was politely standing in the pick up area the whole time. At that point I asked for my money back and she «graciously» gave it back. Four bagels later at Bergen Bagel righted the ship.
Hopefully OBBS gets it together.

This is a busy bagel shoppe, in Brooklyn! The attitude comes with the territory. This is my FAVORITE bagel spot in all of NYC.
I rarely eat bagels… but when I do it’s from here. I like to come in the morning, so the dough is still fluffy and warm. I think they make the bagels in water, old-​world style. They are VERY good. Definitely the type of place you can bring out-​of-​town guests who want to try a «NY Bagel». There are always «ooohs and aaaahs» after a few bites.
My FAVORITES are 1) the sesame bagel with the smoked whitefish (insider secret: if you order the smoked whitefish in the smallest container on the side it’s almost $ 4 cheaper than if you order it on the bagel), 2) the sesame bagel with cream cheese, lox, red onions, tomato, capers OR 3) the sesame bagel with the lox spread (cream cheese pre-​mixed with large chunks of lox).
Our friends are *sadly* moving from Brooklyn to a far off land. We brought a bag of these bagels to the park and it was such a lovely, nostalgic, «typical NY», yummy item to bring. We all slowly ate our bagels, acknowledging what they mean to this city, how it’s hard to find high quality bagels such as from the Olde Brooklyn Bagel Shoppe and we rejoiced!

I found this place after walking up and down Vanderbilt a few times trying to find some sort of carb for breakfast on my first morning in Brooklyn. I stumbled upon this place, much to my delight because I love bagels. I ordered the everything bagel with sundried tomato cream cheese, which came out within 5 – 7 minutes. By the time I received my order, all the inside tables were taken, so I sat outside on the bench with some friendly dogs that were waiting for their owners inside.
The food: Delicious. I could only finish half. There is a LOT of cream cheese. I ate ¹⁄₃ of it before my half marathon the next morning, and the remaining afterwards.
The service: A little less nice than Seattle, but that’s a high standard. Employees were helpful when I asked questions about the bagels.
The facility: Adorable. It has some packaged grocery items and some refrigerated beverages.
The cost: Less than five dollars!
Payment: Cash-​only. They have an ATM inside.
Overall: Highly recommend.
