So so good. Feel like I’m at a friend’s house somewhere in Jamaica. Steamed okra with saltfish and banana. Yummmm. Good quality and friendly folks. Come support this place.

My order came hot and ready ;coffee included. Couldn’t find a menu so I just order what you’d normally get for breakfast, home-fries, eggs, and turkey bacon. I was surprised the home fries definitely exceeded my expectations

Good quality food for the price, and a friendly atmosphere! I wasn’t familiar with most of the items on the menu the first time I went here, and the folks behind the counter very graciously explained everything to me. Good service keeps me coming back, but I’m not a fan of how often their printed menu doesn’t actually reflect what they have available. Great neighborhood spot.

After I spent time looking on Unilocal for restaurants that were cheap and delivered in my area I settled on Red Brick Café. They did not have a menu available online so I decided to ask for curry chicken when I called to place my order. They didn’t have it so I had curry goat instead. I’ve had curry goat before and their version was bonier and fattier than usual. And despite all of how little meat there was, it tasted bland. The best part of the meal was the bone marrow and the lettuce that came with it. Also, after I placed my order, they called me back moments later to make sure that they got it right. It was overall, frustrating, underwhelming, and sickening.

Red Brick is awesome. Great family restaurant with phenomenal fish cakes and great Mac n cheese. I am committed to trying everything on the menu.

I really wanted to love this place. Maybe my hopes were set up too high, maybe it was too late in the evening and all the good stuff was gone, maybe other things, who knows. I asked for the oxtail per another reviewer’s suggestion, but was told they were all out. The lady was nice enough and listed what they had– as soon as she got to curry chicken I stopped her. It’s what I really wanted anyway, of course :) I carried my curry home with drooling anticipation and cracked it open just after dropping my things on the kitchen floor. Bam. Immediately I’m pretty disappointed with the lack of actual curry chicken, and the unnecessary and overflowing abundance of rice and beans. To top it off, most of the chicken was bones, and I mean a LOT of bones. While the curry did taste fantastic and I gobbled it all up, I ate more rice and beans than curry– and I still have enough rice and beans for a few days. Apparently the difference between the $ 5 ‘mini’ and the $ 8 ‘small’ is a week’s worth of rice and beans. Not so happy. I’m sure this place has it’s loyal following since it really comes across like the neighborhood Ma opened a kitchen and the customers are all childhood friends who reminisce over some home-cooked oxtail stew while watching American Idol on the big screen. While that’s cute and all, there are plenty of neighborhood places to try out before I end up giving this place a second shot.

Since the first review I wrote a new place has appeared… Burger Boy… More like Burger Butt(See my Burger Boy review)!! I have since gone back to Red Brick Café, it was monumental! it started with my order then to one roommate then to the other and his girlfriend… Bacon Cheeseburgers all around! When our order arrived(in timely fashion) by the same 2 courteous and friendly kids, I remembered how much it meant to have your meals prepared and created with good moods and positive vibrations in mind!
