I thought about giving this place another try since I’m back for the winter. I wanted sticky rice, which I was able to find the store inside. The store outside I tried the fried bun that everybody raved on Unilocal. Sticky rice with sausage — there was a lot of rice versus the pork sung, but you do get really full but sick of it at the same time. Fried bun — it was pretty good, well the first one. Then it was just a lot of dough and you taste the vinegar/wine strongly. I underestimated how small these are, but they are really filling. At the end I was only able to finish half the sticky rice and half the buns; they are worth it BUT they aren’t that great as a assumed. Please make the dough/skin thinner; same goes with the dumplings. They are too thick… or maybe it’s just me.

After watching Kung Fu Panda we had a major craving for soup dumplings/xiao long bao so we came here and they did not disappoint. It looks like a hole in the wall but it’s cute how little this place is. There’s only a counter to sit at, luckily we were the only people there so it wasn’t super crowded or anything and they keep the place clean which I appreciate. It’s only $ 4 for 8 dumplings we ordered two trays and devoured them because they were that good. It hit the spot perfectly on a windy night. There’s hot sauce and vinegar if you want to add anything to your dumplings but trust me you won’t need to. Their English is not amazing and the girl spoke only Mandarin but I speak Cantonese. Luckily we both understood what the other person was saying and just responded in our own language and she was nice enough. When my boyfriend told her that he liked the dumplings she seemed pleased. However, I sensed a little judgement from the cook but we can see our food being prepared so I know he didn’t do anything weird to our food.

The tasty greasy flavorful pork buns here are amazing. Almost soupy. You’ll be disappointed with the wontons, as they contain a really small amount of meat. But buns here are King.

Let me be clear: I come here for one thing only, the pork and chive dumplings, pan-fried. The skin is a little thicker than I prefer, but the ample and tasty filling makes up for it. This place definitely beats out Manhattan Chinatown dumpling joints. I saw they had recently increased their quantity(12 for $ 3.75, up from 8 for $ 3.75), so it’s even more of a bargain than the last time I visited. As per protocol at establishments like this, you can buy large bags of 50 dumplings for very reasonable prices — $ 12 in this case. I tried their xiao long bao once, but those are definitely too doughy. I would try more of the menu, but thus far have found it impossible to deviate from a known winner.

I came here for lunch hoping to try out their pork dumplings and friend dumplings. I was disappointed. First of all the skin to both the pork and fried dumplings were way too thick. So thick that I felt like I was eating bread rather than dumplings. The quantity of the stuffing was small. The fried dumplings weren’t fried long enough. There was no crisp to the dumpling. It was very soggy and wasn’t well made. I wouldn’t recommend coming here as there are better quality ones elsewhere.

Absolutely delicious!!! Forget those cheap dumpling places in Chinatown. This place is the real deal! While the price tag may seem pricier, the dumplings/buns are bigger than the ones in Chinatown and taste way better so that definitely makes up for it. The pan fried buns are their signature dish and cost $ 2 for 4. The meat is tasty, the bun is soft and filling, and the bottom has a slight crispiness to it! The dumplings are $ 2 for 6 and taste just as amazing. They both also come with this vinegar sauce that matched perfectly with the buns and dumplings! This is definitely one of my go-to places every time I visit the 8th Ave Chinatown. Check this place out! You won’t regret it!

I went for the crab dumplings but didn’t see them on the menu. I asked the lady behind the counter about them but she didn’t understand English. I even pantomimed crab claws(which felt ridiculous, lol) but she still didn’t understand. The guy in front of me on line said they probably had it. Really disappointed as this kind of issue could be resolved with pictures on the menu or a list for the counter-person with the Chinese word for the dish and what they’re hearing phonetically. I have no reason to return as other places are closer.

What?! Their dumplings weren’t the greatest. The skin was thick and my crab dumplings had no crab taste whatsoever. They are more expensive than Joe Shanghai. They are rude. And they also microwave their food. I would stay away as much as I can. I would stay away from that whole area in general.

Ever on the search for the perfect dumpling, my husband and I trooped out to Sunset Pk on our way to Bay Ridge because we had a dumpling craving AND we wanted it quick. While the location isn’t a place to sit down and have a pleasant, leisurely snack(get yours to go and sit in the park I suggest), although the tables were packed the entire 20 minutes we waited for our to-go order… these dumplings were SO delicious. Plenty of local families(both Mexican and Latin) packed this place one after the other. The prices are beyond fair and overall, super satisfying. Will definitely go back.

Way greasy but pretty tasty. Got the fried pork dumplings, the fried pork buns, and scallion pancake(with dipping sauce and hot sauce). Don’t confuse it with the Shanghai Dumpling inside the market, which is all steamed and totally different.

I stumbled on this place with a colleague looking for a quick and cheap bite for lunch. This came up on our Unilocal, and with the high ratings, we knew we had to try it. We did not know exactly where it was. We walked back and forth a few times before we saw it. Shanghai is very small. However, the pan-fried dumplings are amazing! They are some of the best I’ve had! In addition, they are pretty cheap. An order of 5 for 1.75. I love these dumpling so much that I bought 4 orders for a NYE party at my house. Everyone enjoyed them, however, you have to eat hot to really enjoy. I have had other dishes(fried rice and lo mein) and they are okay, nothing special. 1 word of advice. Shanghai is located near the Fei Long Market. However, there is another Shanghai in Fei Long Market, right near the entrance. DONOT buy from there. The prices are more expensive there than the shop outside. Its the same menu as the outside shop, so you are not missing out buying them inside. If you are in the area and you want a quick bite that is pretty cheap, try this place out.

Saying this place has good dumplings is like saying McDonalds has really good coffee! The dumplings are dry and tasteless! Purely subsistence grade food for starving students & bottle scavengers

Love it’s greasy taste. After we stepped out the deli, and holded my bbf’a hand. Suddenly, he shouted«I was stolen!». This was the place my bbf lost his new iPhone 5S, which was stolen by a Chinese! The dumplings deli, like other place else, was cheap but yummy. It is well worth a try. We got pretty mad. Be carefully guys. Some Chinese are famous for its excellent stealing skills. You should always hold your phones or put them into your bags. Never let your purses open, which create a great opportunity for them to steal.

I love Leo L’s picture of the girl eating here because if you have ever eaten here, you will know she is taking up 90% of the room there is to eat at the place! Anyhow I believe that the price has gone up form the $ 1.50 Liana L paid last August until today when I paid $ 1.75 for 5 dumplings. While the price here is higher than Prosperity and the other Manhattan 5 for $ 1 places, the dumplings are larger and more flavorful. A note of caution that they overuse the oil or use cheap oil because you may end up tasting the oil a few hours later. I did! The people here are friendly and they do a high enough volume to insure food is made fresh. Today was my first visit. I plan to come back to try some of the other entries on the menu including Shanghai Pan Fried Buns, Scallion Pancakes and the Fried Rice dishes!

My fave dumpling place in all of Brooklyn!* My usual is an order of dumplings, scallion pancakes and a bubble tea from next door. The dumplings are 5 for $ 1.75, I believe — they recently increased by 25 cents. You can easily get lunch here for $ 3. Their full meals with rice are delicious too and also cheap(about $ 6). I love their hot sauce! *I might actually mean in all of NYC!

It’s a small miracle that this place can make such good food for such low prices. I love their dumplings. They are big and flavorful, and you get 5 for less than $ 2. Seriously, how is that possible? They also make really good scallion pancakes for $ 1.25. I had never had a scallion pancake before coming here. I am definitely a fan. The place is pretty deep into Brooklyn, but is only a block from the train, so its really easy to get to. Worth the trip.

I decided to give this place a try after reading a fellow Unilocalers ROTD. People seem to rave about the Shanghai Pan Fried Buns. I must say I have to agree with reviews. For $ 2 you get 4 Shanghai Pan Fried Buns. Absolutely amazing!!! The buns were crispy, juicy, and packed with pork meat. When I took a bite out of each buns the juice squirted out. Mmm… Tastes even better with that side of vinegar. Delicious!!! Shanghai Traditional Dumpling Inc. is a really tiny place and the staff are always constantly making fresh batches of dumplings. They also make congee, soups, rice, noodles, and soy bean milk. Get the Shanghai Pan Fried Buns. Cheap! Amazing! Delicious!

Woohoo! As good as it gets! The Best Chinese dumplings in Brooklyn, GOOD, CHEAP, and PLENTY. I stop by Shanghai Traditional dumpling house whenever I am in the mood for good authentic Chinese dumplings. You get an entire meal, enough to feed a small army for like $ 3… I swear! They make their dumplings by hand everyday, fresh and tasty. The Fried pork buns are a must try. Make sure to ask for their special hot sauce.

I could literally eat here everyday and never get tired of it. Actually, I think I did eat here for a week straight. Cheap delicious dumplings and other good eats come from this tiny little place in Brooklyns Chinatown. The dumplings they serve are crispy and packed with meat. The mini pork buns are the best. Every single time I bite into one of them they burst and juice sprays out! To me, that’s love lol. They also make a delicious fried rice, and their soup dumplings aren’t bad either. They also offer other larger dishes, buy I say keep it simple and come for the variety of dumplings they offer. It’s impossible to go wrong with any order. The man at the counter, which I believe is the owner is super friendly and informative. I recommend to anyone and everyone to come and try these bad boys.

I found myself in Brooklyn China Town on a Sunday. Until this week, I had no idea this neighborhood existed. While walking around feeling like a minority for the first time ever, I looked for a place to grab a bite. This neighborhood does not cater to English speakers, that is for sure. Nothing like Manhattan China town. From across the street I couldn’t tell if storefronts were restaurants or hardware stores or whatever — everything was in Chinese. I used trusty Unilocal to find a dumpling shop. The sign was not in English, but I guess the name of this place is translated. They did have a menu that was bilingual, which helped a lot. It had pictures! I ordered crab and pork soup dumplings and chive dumplings. I got a ton of food for about 8 bucks. Enough to bring some home. The dumplings were great. I know I don’t have much dumpling street cred, but they were better than most of the places I have been in Chinatown Manhattan. People were bustling in and out, but I waited for my food a while. I guess soup dumplings take longer. Also there are places to sit, but it is very limited so I would recommend grabbing your food to go.
