My brother is a big fan of SIG. While in NY we made a stop here with the family for some lunchtime grub. I must respectfully disagree with the other comments regarding pricing. The food is reasonably priced, especially in comparison to other«West Indian» restaurants. The restaurant is quaint but average size for the area and upon entering you see everything is clean and organized. Before prepping your food you are required to use hand sanitizer, I’m not a fan of hand sani, but I LOVE this and am on board for restaurants requiring this. There are also signs on the sneeze guard telling customers not to talk over the food or use their phone while serving themselves. I LOVETHIS!!! I wish more buffets had these requirements. The food is average and nothing blew me out of the water. The oxtails were super oily and despite trying to stir them to get rid of the inch high layer of oil on top, it remained. The sides were great and the steamed cabbage(my favorite) had peas, carrots, and string beans blended in. The curry goat also had a layer of oil on top. Le Sigh. I also tried a few jerk wings. They were cooked well and weren’t dry. My favorite item was the homemade juice. I tried the green Cucumber Ginger. The next time I’m in the area I’m definitely stopping by for that! Overall, it’s average. However, if they addressed the oil issue this restaurant would be five stars. Easily.

I was taken by surprise to discover thus eatery. It looked crowded from outside and when I stepped in. Wow amazing buffet and people anxiously lined up with their dishes in hand. I ended by relinquishing my hunger with the finest smoked carribean cuisine I ever tasted or known. Pasta, ruce, pork chops, ox bbq– wow I just became fan of carribean cuisine.

Very clean restaurant. You pick out what you want and go pay for it at the counter. It’s great to breathe your own meal but it’s a little pricey. My macaroni and cheese with curry chicken and BBQ chicken was about $ 9. Which is insane because you can get it on the same block for $ 3 – 4. Thankfully they have tables, a big selection of beverages, a big tv to watch as you eat and you can tell that the furniture isn’t old or worn out. The lady that worked here didn’t have such a good attitude but he did answer my question. I’d recommend going down Fulton street for the same food, taste for less than half of the price !

If I were only reviewing the food this place would get five stars, but their customer service and delivery service its horrific. Delivery takes hours and hours and they can’t seem to ever get an order right. When I told them of their mistake they promised to give me a percent off of my next order, but of course that didn’t happen. It is a shame that they treat their customers so poorly because the food is quite decent. They have a lot more options for delivery or take out than eating in, but beware your order will probably be wrong.

First and last time every going here, rude customer service. Food overpriced, scale is BS. Never again.

I have no complaints about the food at this restaurant. It’s actually one of the decent West Indian locations in the area. However the employees/management/owner needs either business ethics training, customer service training, morals or all of the above. Just 3 examples below — 1. I sent this place an email a while back regarding hair in my food — no response. 2. Since I thoroughly enjoy eating here I woke up wanting breakfast to get rid of the symptoms from a night of drinking. I googled the restaurant hours and google listed the hours as 11:00am — 9:00pm. I thought this couldn’t be right so I went to the website and it list the SAME hours. So I decided to take a walk to Golden Krust and low and behold Smokey Island is open. I mentioned to the woman at the register that the hours are listed wrong and she said«No they’re not delivery starts at 11am.» Um ma’am I don’t care what time delivery starts — I’m telling you that your hours are listed wrong on the most used & trusted search engine ASWELLASONTHEBUSINESS’ WEBSITE. But if they don’t care, I guess I won’t. The smarter response would have been«I’ll look into that» or «I’ll inform management», but I guess that only exist in Downtown Brooklyn and Manhattan — silly me. 3. Everyone seems upset as if they’re giving away free food. All you’re doing is ringing up my order. I’m serving myself. A smile goes a long way. Aside from these few things I really like their oxtail, jerk pork, jerk wings, and stew chicken.

The worst customer service I have ever experienced in life. 3rd rate food with no flavor. Don’t bother going here. You will be disappointed.

The food here is great and is reasonable priced. The only complaint I have is the customer service. The cashier are always welcome and pleasant. The owner is another story. He always manages to present with a rude, arrogant, and displeasing attitude. I have observed him get into petty and ridiculous arguments with customers. The food is great, however the place is now being known as the place with the rude owner which is unfortunate. He is a business man, however when your business is known more for police presence and an argumentative owner than your food; something is wrong.

They get a 2 for effort. I purchased a medium size tray of oxtail, mac and cheese, mixed veggies and peas & rice. The cost $ 20.00. The oxtails were dark and cooked well but it didn’t taste like Jamaican oxtails. The plus is it didn’t have too much fat. The mac and cheese weren’t as tasty, the veggies weren’t over cooked. I’d never pay $ 20.00 for West Indian food Togo when they’re reasonably priced West Indian restaurants up and down Fulton.Street. They need to get rid of that scale and share food like they usually do. Sorry I didn’t take a pic of my food, I forgot! Overall the spot looks clean and the best part was the black cherry soda! I’m not a fan of buffet restaurants because all kinds of funny stinky people put their hands in the food and that equals food poisoning. Ipass.

Saw this place while exiting the A train on Nostrand Avenue… This place looks Very clean. There are also Signs indicating What the foods are and the amount per lbs… I like and appreciate the fact that There are huge stop Signs indicating to please sanitize your hands before entering the food area(bloked off with a red velvet rope); which is attached to an automatic sanitizer dispenser. als, there is a huge sanitizer by the small seating area.(hope people can follow directions) Lastly, there are Signs asking you to not speak while serving yourself, which I really like. The food you see in the picture was just okay/bland. I have created better tasting mac and cheese using cheap ingredance… AND The chicken wingest were hard and bland. I gave them 3 stars becuase the food is nothing to write home about honestly! Lastly, this place is full of English signs… I sure hope the people who eat here are not illiterate also I hope they could read English…

I did a seamless order and it is, as many say, a long wait. It takes an hour, no matter what. I called to see if maybe(just maybe), it would arrive sooner and was told, nope. The rice and peas(mac n cheese) were dry, the jerk chicken was decent. Oddly enough, it was my husband’s pork fried rice dish that was really amazing. I wish some of the sides weren’t so dry. The overall experience was ho-hum.

The Good: Looks clean and the food is tasty. The BAD: I have walked past this place a few times before and it looked like a chill, cool spot. Upon walking in you are greeted with hand sanitizer stations and a rope to separate you from the buffet style hot plates which you can load up for your food to be weighed. The selections are standard fare for Caribbean spots but they definitely don’t have as much selections as Soldiers. I put about 5 pieces of chicken wingettes, a piece of fish and had a portion of macaroni and cheese and was curious to see how much all would cost. A sour faced woman comes up and I greet her with a smile and mention this was my first time coming and get nada in return. I felt like I was wrong for daring to come in and buy food and honestly that is something I notice with mainly Caribbean food spots they act like they are upset when you come in to buy their food. Makes no sense. She weighs my meal and then tells me my incomplete meal is a whopping $ 9.50. Huh? For that little bit of food? I could have done better at the many other establishments on Fulton and(maybe) got a smile out of it! I figured the food would at least be stupendous but it just wasn’t. It’s good but not crappy customer service and overcharged prices good. Wont recommend. I also included a picture of the food I got in the pictures section

Let me start by saying that today was my second visit. My first visit I had a piece of the jerk salmon which was good … Today I stopped in for mac n cheese with oxtails and fried chicken… The mac was ok nothing special … Fried chicken was cool again nothing special and the ox tails were OK … Just ok… It was mostly bones and fat from what was left and extremely oily… However the food is not why they are getting two stars … The staff was incredibly RUDE and everyone had an attitude. One of the staff members kept cleaning and lifting things up as I was trying to get my food… The cashier(s) had the nastiest attitudes and by the looks on their faces you can tell they hated their jobs. Even though I only paid 13 and change for two small plates of food which was not bad lets just say they will not be getting anymore of my money.

Nondescript spot. Glad I stepped in. They had a great Caribbean buffet spread out for lunch. Tried a little of everything, enjoyed all of it, and spent around $ 6 – 7. The jerk sauce is great.

The food is good if it ever gets there. Had my order cancelled twice. Had them come over 2.5 hours after delivery window once. On a «good» day they take 75 min, but be warned if you order from here and it’s within 1.5 hours of their closing time you run the risk of hem canceling your order indiscriminately. That said, the food is still good. I would recommend them as a sit down place only.

Crap service. The food was ok. Good Variety. My partners wallet was stolen from our table as we were sitting there. It happened right after an employee cleared our plates but we didn’t want to accuse anyone without proof. We asked to look at the camera and were refused by the staff and then the manager. My partner told them that the police were on the way as it had his AUS passport and ID plus $ 130. He mentioned he didn’t care about the money but needed his passport and iD. Three minutes later the employee that had been clearing our plates«found» the wallet with his ID but all the cash had gone. Very suspicious! We will not be going back.

The signs have gotten even zanier, including signs that warn you to read the signs, but at the same time the buffet has become more expansive. In particular, they seem to have more fish, with three variations of saltfish on tonight’s visit. The cabbage and jerk pork are still going strong.

— Fried chicken is the best option in the buffet — BBQ chicken was kind of spicy — I pretty much filled by large styrofoam dish for less than ten dollars — Cabbage was typical — Fish looks good — Can us credit card for orders over ten dollars, or face a 1 dollar surcharge

There are a few options for caribbean food on nostrand and fulton but none of them are as new or well put together as Smokey Grille. Golden crust is old and established so they dont have to do much. Pattie Hut is my fav but its a small spot with limited seating. Smokey Grille has a long table full of fresh cooked options, plenty of seating and better customer service them golden crust and pattie hut combined. BBQ fried chicken oooh yeah, jerk chicken, ox tail yessssir, rice and peas, plantain, ackee and salt fish… Bummmbaclooottt yes! They have it all and more. Anyone in bedstuy looking for a good meal stop into smokey grille. Your tastebuds will love you and your personal trainer… good luck!
