I’m so pissed I went to the wrong soldiers, I was suppose to be at the original soldiers on Fulton street they are the best, here the food was dry the rice and peas were hard there was no meat on my oxtails or my cow feet! never again go to the original soldiers on Fulton street!

It’s a rare sight to see a Jamaican buffet but I digress… the food here is one of the best I’ve had in NYC and the price is impossible to beat due to the fact that you weigh it before paying for it. They have everything you can think of including goat, chicken, oxtail, fried plantains and muffins… I only paid $ 5 for a lot of great food and a drink!

My coworker took me here for a Jamaican breakfast. It is buffet style with trays of fish, porridge, stews, and breads. The flavors are pretty heavy for a breakfast meal but still enjoyable. The one dish that stood out to me was the fried fish, so crispy and meaty. It was cool to try something new, if i’m ever super hungry in the morning I’ll be be sure to stop by here since it’s so filling.

ill be honest, not exactly sure what I had but most of it was good =D Best way to describe this place is open buffet selection priced by the total pound. You grab a to go box or dine in plate, load your plate picking as you go through the cooked selections which is many and varied(more importantly good too). Selections include chicken, lamb, beef, and whole bunch of sides. I had waaaay over what my plate could carry and it came out to 14.75. That should indicate tops what you will pay for a gluttony fueled plate. The food is good too with the exception of maybe 1 or 2 entrees i tried(which in their defense were sea food and Im never been a huge fan of sea food). All in all worth going to and coming again with friends with big appetites. Cheers

Rarely do you find a Jamaican Buffet! This place does it well tho! $ 5.49/lb and you get a good amount of food! The selection is overwhelming! Everything is fresh and very very authentic.

Jamaican buffet! Came here for breakfast and they had the tables lined up with various meats, veggies, porridges, and breads. The fried fish fritter was amazing, and the sweet bread rolls were similar to the chinese fried cruellers eaten with congee, but more dense. Tried the liver stew and fish in tomato sauce, both were tasty and heavy in flavor. Was nice to try some authentic foods different from my usual cuisines, and from what I heard this place is really good. I don’t think I would personally return, wasn’t my cup of tea but I’m glad I gave this place a shot. You should too!

There is serious competition with the Caribbean restaurants in Brooklyn. The list of the smaller, «not so fancy» restaurants is long however Soldiers happens to be in my top ten. Another buffet style that will blow your mind away with selection and flavor. Breakfast is served in the morning and lunch/dinner in the afternoon. One attribute I like is they have 3 types of soup every day unlike the typical, one or two at different restaurants. Another great attribute is the desserts such as sweet potato pudding, corn bread, bread pudding, and an array of fruits. It’s a busy area and a busy restaurant with a few tables for dining in. It’s located on the ever traffic ridden Nostrand Ave however parking, if not found immediately, is always available in a few mins. Soldier’s, try it you’ll like it.

Everything was generally good… not the best Caribbean food by far, but still good. I normally do not do buffets. It’s just something about them that curbs me away. I saw this place on Unilocal and said ill but the rating was so high that sense I had to walk past it anyway, I should at least stop in and see what it’s like. Buffets tend to seem seem crowded and unappeasing to me. That wasn’t the case here and I’m thankful or else I would have walked out. After prowling around both lanes to see what the offerings were and deeming them«likely to be safe» I grabbed a smaller circular tin container and made my way to rice and peas to build a bed for the jerk chicken and goat portions that I would rest atop it next to some baked macaroni pie. I stuffed my plate pretty well and topped it off with a few plantains as well. Like I said everything was just good. The Mac wasn’t the best but it was as good as anything that you’re fun aunt would prepare for you. The jerk chicken was really good and the goat was tender. The plantain, which I thought looked a bit dry but couldn’t turn down, turned out to be tasty as well. This was a solid meal. If I lived a little closer to this place it’d probably be my go-to spot for those nights that I’m not really sure what I want and the price(based on weight) weighs out nicely for the portion size.

Been to this place countless times. It is buffet style & your food is weighed to determine price. Great Jamaican food. The Oxtail is exceptional. Get what you want & as much as you want. Definitely some of the best tasty food in the area. No décor and there are only 2 tables. Best to get your food and go.

The greatest idea Everrrr… Jamaican Buffet!!! They are open early and close late catering to all hungry belly’s throughout the day/night. You are charged by the pound with reasonable prices. I’ve been eating here for years and I’m satisfied everytime.

If you want your mix of clutch home cooked Carribean foods here is the place to go. They have a decent variety of popular items from salt fish to provision to baked dishes. They don’t get five stars because they don’t accept credit cards and i believe the establishment could be renovated to look more appealing.

This place is pretty good. I don’t eat much Jamaican food so I wouldn’t know how it compares but it’s pretty good and lots of options. Great for take out too — just grab and go.

If it were not for its ho hum curb appeal, subpar lighting, its limited salad bar, desert, and beverage sections, this place would get 5 stars and my business years earlier. The food, especially the proteins are seasoned and cooked perfectly. The curried goat is the best I’ve eaten in Brooklyn. Their oven baked«jerked» chicken is beyond delicious — literally down to the bone. The prices are very reasonable and the customer service(cashier) has been pleasant every time I’ve been there. If this place were to de-clutter the cashier’s area(a serious buffet should not be selling«Shirley Biscuits», get better lighting, a new, crisper banner, i.e. run like it was Korean owned; this place would run out of food everyday.

The food is good and I find the price reasonable. I will point out I’m vegetarian, so my container is always priced on the lower scale. Typical Jamaican food(I’m Trini) — fresh and awesome variety. Customer service is lacking(I think this is a West Indian thing), so just focus on the food, convenience, and how late its open:-)

I moved to the area 5 days ago and have already eaten here an embarrassing number of times lol. Don’t judge me… I’ve been too busy to cook. I LOVE that they’re open to 1AM everyday. Good homemade style Jamaican food beats running to the bodega for a sandwich any day! The food is served buffet style and customers are charged by the pound. Everything is fresh… even the fried foods never seem to be soggy. I’ve tried so far: bake and saltfish, rice and peas, curry chicken, callaloo, fresh fruit, oxtails, fried fish, plantain. Everything was delicious! I would avoid the bottled sorrel though… it was pretty watery. Seating is sparse and the restaurant is small and sometimes crowded but most customers grab their food and go. FYI there are no name placards above the dishes. I grew up in a West Indian home and some of the food is foreign to even me. All in all I love the place and will be getting up early for breakfast tomorrow: D
