The Lab Banquet Hall

I’m being generous with the two stars; this place deserves maybe one measly star. It’s getting a second star because the venue itself is huge, had a great sound system, and the VIP section is up on the second floor and is balcony styled watching down on everybody else.
Let me particularly say that maybe the the promoters and the hosting of this party really are the ones who deserve a bad review but regardless this was my experience for the one and only time I went to the lab.
So after one party was shut down in Clinton hill, and two bar/​lounges were dead we traveled to «the lab» in high hoped of celebrating the west Indian part of labor day. All over the radio being broadcasted by famous HOT 97 I figured there was no way that we could be let down at this event. Well I was wrong…
We got in, no line, no issue. The girl asked if we had «tickets», which we didn’t, and then told us it was $ 20 (or $ 60 for VIP with unlimited alcohol). So we get in and guess what IT’S DEAD! It wasn’t dead in the number of people who were there, it just lacked life. No one was dancing. Instead everyone stood around looking at the hu-​gormous dance floor. This place isn’t your type bar/​lounge scene; this is a freaken banquet hall that could fit the whole borough of Brooklyn– its made for dancing. And that bring me to my next point of not knowing one single west Indian person who does not LOVE to dance. Anyhow it was cool because me and my friend danced as everyone watched us and «owwwwwwed» and «awwwwwed».
What made the night actually bad is that we were standing close to the door where you pay to get in (this is not the main entrance)… And we see all these dam people just walking in — shortly after us. Of course we had to investigate a little more because they didn’t seem to have tickets, not were they paying to get in.
After confirming the suspicion of pure fuckery my friend went to ask the lady why all these people were getting in with out a cover or ticket– her response «they’re cousins of Suss one» (the dj who hosted the event). Dam, he must have one big friken family.
We left right after that and found fun else where.
I would definitely return here because the Lab looks like a great spot to party at if the event isn’t freaken wack. I will definitely be checking in the future for the accuracy of who ever is hosting the party. And just a side note I’ve been noticing a lot of reggae party’s that are being broadcasted over the radio are turning out worse than expected so BEWARE!

Came here for an «Area 51» trance/​electronica rave. First time I’ve ever been to a rave and it was quite interested and as much as I like trance/​techno as the next guy, I really do prefer an environment with more variety in terms of music — at least with words.
What’s great about the space is that there is indeed a large, well ventilated main dance floor with a bar and reasonable drinks. Bathrooms were what you expect from a night club — could be worse.
What’s great about events such as these:
Headphones were provided if you wanted to party on your own: channels to switch up to whichever you were going for, and dance outside if you wanted to. Clothing optional — wear whatever you like, teddy bear/​unicorn back packs, fuzzy boots, shorts. Free glow in the dark body paint provided.
What’s interesting was that parties such as this one goes on to 8am (door opened at 9pm). Party started at around 2am, as opposed to a «regular» club at midnight.
Met a woman who was doing stuff to a hoola hoop that even a straight man would find impressive. Cirque du Soleil or America’s got Talent material at least.

I’m going to stick to partying in Manhattan… seriously.
