Love this place. In winter or rainy days I go quite often, and my daughter enjoys being here for the movies and the toys. You don’t have to expect gourmet food, b/c its more oriented to kids, but I enjoy the churrasco every time I go and also the wings. While kids are playing parents can relax with a glass of wine. Thanks Moxie Spot for all the good times!

We went to this place on a Saturday night, when it has an open mic. We were enjoying most of the performers and thought the owner seemed very nice too. When the waitress brought our food and she brought me a hamburger, I told her very nicely that I had ordered a cheeseburger. She replied with attitude, «You say you ordered a cheeseburger?» She went to pick it back up and then she asked me if I wanted the cheese melted on the burger. I politely replied, «Yes please.» She made a face at me but I really quickly forgot about it. Later, she brought the check and handed it to me as my husband got up to use the rest room. I looked at the check and could not believe my eyes. To identify our table, she had put on the check, «Ol’ lady w/glasses and curly hair.» When my husband came back and I showed it to him, he could not believe his eyes. He got up and showed it to the owner who came over to me and said, «Not that it’s okay but __’s only 28 and to her everyone our age is old.» To which I replied that that did not make it okay(my son is a bit younger than she is and he knows better than that). The owner replied that I was right and offered a lukewarm apology. He took our check but quite honestly, I would have rather had an apology from the waitress, and maybe even seen her be let go, than have a free meal. We will neither be going to this place again, nor will I be recommending it to our friends who enjoy going out to see live performances. Too bad too, because I was beginning to like the place.

Very much a kids place and maybe I caught it on a bad day. They were to have bingo night but we were the only family there. The food was very basic. The burger was ok. I would try it again.

Amazing food! I ordered a large mac and cheese with hamburger and bacon, fries, and a soda. I consider myself a mac and cheese connoisseur and this bowl was fantastic. The fries are also great, the right size. The food came out in 5 minutes, which was very short but it might have also been because there were no other customers ordering at the time. I wouldn’t know exactly how kid-friendly this place is as I don’t have any children of my own, but it seemed extremely family friendly. Really do recommend!

This place is for families with children. The food is great and the amenities like wifi, a changing table, tv. The cleanliness of the toys has improved for sure, though if my son was younger I probably would say different. I still recommend coming at least once. My favorite day is the Friday’s movie night.

Great play space for kids. They serve foods like chicken fingers and grilled cheese, plus you can get healthy sides like brussels sprouts(or fries if you prefer). Spend $ 15 on food and you can go upstairs to the play space for free. I was impressed by the amount of toys they had. They also had paper and markers, computer stations and a carpeted area for the little ones. There were about 6 – 7 kids there on a Friday at 12 pm. My 2 year old kept saying«this is really fun Mommy” — so I think he liked it! :)

I love the concept of this place, a kid friendly restaurant that has kid oriented dishes and a play space. A place that executed this concept well would do gangbusters in the area. Unfortunately, this is not such a place. Food was mediocre at best. I could forgive that. I wasnt expecting great food at a restaurant that caters to kids. What really disappointed me was the play space, I don’t think it would take much to entertain kids but the ratty hand me down toys and games they had makes me think all there kids stuff was secured at best at goodwill at worst the dump. I wanted to scrub my kids down after playing with their kids. Again, I love the concept but they could try a little harder.

Went to my newphew’s birthday party here and it was a great experience. The kids all had a blast. Food was pretty good. They have a nice atmosphere. The staff is very good. Helpful, energetic and attentive. My wife thought she has lost her phone and one of the workers searched high and low for it before she found it. Parking could be hard. But if youv have a young kid this is a nice spot for a party or even a meal in their kid friendly restaurant.

I’ve been here a couple times with the toddler I nanny. He loves the singalong and story time! And it’s great to have somewhere to take him in the winter/inclement weather where he can crawl around and play and be social. If you’re uptight about germs from kids sharing communal toys, this might not be the place for you. I don’t mind it though — the place is surprisingly clean, given the clientele, and I’m sure they clean the toys regularly. The place itself has a lived-in, slightly dingy look to it, but I think it adds to the charm. Like Grandma’s house, it’s a little dusty and musty, but still feels like home. The staff I’ve met are all extremely friendly and accommodating, the food is good, and the service is quick. I’d recommend this place for sure to anyone who lives nearby. There is space for stroller parking inside, but the space is limited and it can get very crowded, so if you’re coming from easy walking distance, I’d recommend letting your little one get the exercise or using a carrier.

Popped in for story time, my son was captivated by the charismatic story teller upstairs in the play room. Buckets of toys and art materials kept him entertained whilst we waited for our food. My son had chicken quesadilla’s — perfect toddler food just cheese & chicken no garnish or sneaky salad slipped on the plate. I had a large garden salad — fresh & tasty. Very friendly staff who were happy to help when I had my hands full. We will defo return for another lunch play date

First off parking is horrible so take public transportation if you can but other than that … Great place for the kids to run free. If the toys and singalong don’t keep them entertained, the tv’s will. My 19 month old loved the music session, cool performer and great with the kids. We met some friends there for a meetup play group and the owner Nat was very accommodating as to getting us enough tables and space for the group of moms and kids. Food and drinks were good, my son and I had the Moxie Mac n Cheese and the veggie spring rolls, yummy! I’m sure we will be there again for another meetup soon.

On our way to the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, we saw this place right when we got off the bus. With a toddler who was getting a bit antsy, this seems like a nice place to stop for a quick snack. So we ventured inside. The place wasn’t the cleanest, which is sad because it caters to kids so being clean should seem like it would be first priority. But it does make up for it in other aspects. When we went in — at around 3pm on a Sunday afternoon — all staff besides 1 seem to be concentrated on the party going on upstairs. We sat ourselves down and ordered a hummus and a breakfast sandwich(yes, at 3pm). Both were actually pretty good. Our toddler loved their hummus, and the pita bread tasted fresh. The free coffee that came with the breakfast sandwich was cold(blah), but other that that the food was decent. The best part about this place — it’s full of fun for the kids. Our toddler started drawing on the art table, playing with the pots, and after getting stickers on his shirt — he didn’t want to leave. It was quite hard to get him to finally leave the place!

It is what it is: a place to get some food and let the kids play indoors. Is the food great? Not really. Is it the cleanest? No. But I’ll gladly go back for the sake of letting my kids play where I can see them while I sit and eat. At least it gets us out of the house in the cold weather. We stayed for story time and my 4-year old loved it.

We love this place. We had our daughter’s 7th birthday party here. Every year we let her plan her party and this year’s theme was Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Moxie Spot fit the bill for what we needed. They have a big scene here, not a TV but a drop down movie screen with a projector so we could show videos of the Thriller and dance lessons that I found on line with enough space for dancing and I was able to DJ from my laptop. They also DJ and the music is fine but our daughter had many special requests for her dance party. Moxi Spot also has a Wii with the Michael Jackson game. AWESOME!!! and perfect for us. We like to invite her whole class along with other friends, their parents and siblings so we need a fairly decent sized space with a reasonable budget. The place has unique décor that we appreciated and lends it to a party feel. In the upstairs party room, they have a lot of tables and benches along the edge so we were able too set up a craft table and make up stand for that«thriller» look. There is a smaller room behind the big screen with a drawing table, books and toys. It was a good space to send younger siblings and the timid during the scary part of the Thriller. There is also a Foozball table which the kids all loved. The owner and staff was easy to work with and extremely helpful with all our special requests. We had catered trays of food they prepared for us. The food was good with plenty of healthy choices. We were able to avoid the soda with juice choices and have beverages for the adults. They were great at accommodating us, our budget and all our needs. The Owner is FANTASTIC with kids, he knows just what to do to get them interested and keep the party rolling with the timing for the crafts, dancing, food, cake, etc. Moxie Spot is unique is what it has to offer. We were so happy to have found a space where kids and parents could enjoy themselves at a party and we can relax knowing we have excellent back up. We go here occasionally for other events too like family movie night and crafting but do not live close by. Parking can be a bitch but it’s doable with patience.

This is the worst place ever. We walked in on a Sunday because we thought it might be a great place for the kids to grab something to eat. It was absolutely disgusting from the«pigs in a blanket»(heated up in the microwave) to the fries. The waitress didn’t even care the clean up the tables. She just left the food on the tables and floor. The tables were sticky and dirty. The«chef» came down with the food and he was nice but he seemed like he just woke up and not taken a shower for a week. I am surprised that this place is shut down for various reasons.

I visited this spot with my son because I thought it’d be cute to visit a «Kid Friendly» restaurant. When you first walk in you think«Oh wow, this place is adorable», until you order the food and you are over charged because the person taking your order isn’t listening to what you’re saying. The first time I was over charged, but I must say, the staff fixed the problem rather quickly. The next problem was the food. I ordered that they have the audacity to call«Miso Soup». I’ve never had miso soup with chunks of tomato and spinach floating around. Whatever. The chicken tenders kids meal was a joke. My son is not a big eater at all but was left wanting more chicken because he was literally served 1 strip! I gave this place the benefit of the doubt and took my son there a second time. Wrong thing to do. They attempted to overcharge me again, but I was hip to their game. I ordered food for my son, and ordered a little something for myself. Just when I started to think«Oh, it’s a great thing I gave this place a second chance» I find hair in my food. I asked for my money back and they happily obliged and told me to contact the owner. I never bothered. I just figured I’d let the good people of Unilocal know, and that I’d also refrain from giving them business ever again.

We recently held a birthday party there for our daughter and a friend who were turning 3. It was a resounding success at a very affordable price. The owner, Nat, was a pleasure to work with setting it up and organizing it — he was on the ball but also very laid back; clearly his interest was focused on creating a great time for the children. This attitude carried through the party itself — Nat conducted all the activities and really got the children going. We had about 25 kids and 40 adults, and they all raved about how awesome the party was — many of them going out of their way to write an email to us later about what a great time they had. The space is not fancy, but it has a great vibe –so much so that people commented on it. it’s clearly a creative space. One of the activities we chose was ‘pin the tail on the donkey’, but we had a dinosaur theme, so Nat’s wife custom-made a «pin the teeth on the dinosaur» game. You don’t get that everywhere. in fact, there aren’t many places where you can host that many kids/adults, with you choice of a handful of activities, food, beer + wine, and have the whole thing organized and run for you — without breaking the bank. we booked this sight unseen simply for the deal alone, and were increasingly impressed right up til party day. finally, on that last note — Nat knew we were on a budget, so he helped us plan food in a way that would satisfy our guests but be most affordable for us; he proved that he had our best interests in mind. And the food — yes, it’s simple«kids» food and sandwiches, was really very good.(get the sweet potato fries!) Nat and his team deserve some recognition; he’s clearly putting his heart behind this business, which is unfortunately rare these days. I think some of the toys on the lower level probably need to be replaced(they’re pretty old), but look beyond that and you’ll find a well-run, heartfelt space made for kids to have fun.

Seems like most of the reviewers didn’t realize they were dining at a kids play space that serves food. Let’s clear this up right now… if you don’t have children, move on and find something else. This is a children’s play space that happens to serve food and the food is geared towards kids. That being said, it is what it is. It’s incredibly crowded during the weekdays(esp. if it’s raining or it’s winter). It’s good for the kids to burn off some energy and on certain days they have music classes and singalongs, dancing, and story time. The food is what you would expect from an over run kids play space. We have only ordered PB&J and a quesidilla. Both were fine and it’s cheap. My only real qualm with this place is that they need another person working the floor in the day time. The stroller situation downstairs is insanity and probably a fire hazard.

Before lambasting The Moxie Spot for its ills, I would like to say that the staff who participate in running the birthday parties upstairs are all friendly and do a nice job at creating a party atmosphere for the kids. There are donut-eating contests, freeze dancing, limbo and the kids generally have a pretty good time. I didn’t even realize that this was a regular place to eat and the fact that people go here and then complain in a review about kids and/or parents is beyond asinine as everything about this place screams that it is there for kids. With all that said, I find the place rather decrepit. I can only speak from attending two parties in two years here, but it really is kind of shabby as a whole. The upstairs is full with old tables and chairs and I would suspect it has looked virtually the same for many, many years. There is a drawing station for kids with ample equipment to get stuff done, there is a DJ booth to add music to the party and that is about it. In terms of the food, I can only speak for what was served at the parties, ostensibly kid-fare — chicken fingers, french fries, fruit and popcorn. My kids are always too busy playing to eat, but I have sampled the food and found it pretty uninspiring to say the least. The fruit is appreciated as an alternative, but even the popcorn is over-salted and possibly over-popped. I was personally horrified that part of the donut-eating contest involved eating the donut off of the floor after it fell from the rope since you could not use your hands. Yes, they put down a long stretch of garbage bag to catch them, but still the kids were stepping all over this thing and the sight of multiple kids eating donuts off the floor and chairs was kind of gross — maybe it’s just me, but I doubt it. Maybe I am colored by the fact that I am in eternal opposition to places like Chuck E. Cheese because there is just no way you can keep places like that, with all the kids and all the germs, even remotely clean or presentable, but The Moxie Spot unfortunately sinks into that category for me as well. While they do provide a nice service at the parties(they have foosball too) and are friendly and attentive, the décor coupled with the actual product provided just doesn’t amount to much for me.

2.5 stars The two best things about Moxie is the front door and the menu. The front door has three sizes one within another you can open which is just great fun for kids and has a Alice and Wonderland feel to it. The menu has all the classic foods you loved as a kid and an adult. They have everything from grilled cheese, pulled pork, chicken parm, fish and chips, to hamburgers and hot dogs. The two worst things are the prices and the food itself. For example the classic grilled cheese sounds alright at $ 3.25 but what you get is two pieces of wonder bread with the crust cut off and a piece of cheese in the middle. Very small, very basic and the mark up to $ 3.25 is sad. All the items on the menu are mediocre at best and I probably wouldn’t make it back here unless I was with a family with kids. In terms of a kid place I think they fall a little short here too. They have the cool door in front and some pipes and fittings for kids to play with in the entrance, they also have a chalk board and a fuseball table upstairs but thats it. I don’t have kids but I think the décor doesn’t really say children’s place and there isn’t enough fun things for the kids to do. But they save themselves by holding tons of kid events here for the whole family. So if you have little ones under 10 or so then check the place out, you just might love it. But if you don’t have children move on to a better place in the Brooklyn Heights/Cobble Hill area for some food.
