We have been in search of a good restraunt on this stretch of 95 ever since the GA Pig closed; Bubba Jax fills that need. Located in the former Whattaburger building across from the site where the GA pig was located, it doesn’t look like much from the outside. What it lacks in curb appeal it more than makes up for with delicious food, fast and friendly service. We stopped in on a Friday night, the restraunt was nearly full but we were promptly seated, and greeted with friendly service. The waiter was helpful and did great with our road weary son. I had the crab cakes which were full of lump crab meat, my 4 year old gobbled up my side of cheese grits so I’ll assume they were amazing. My husband ordered the shrimp and oysters with cole slaw and onion rings as his sides. The shrimp were well seasoned and even the 4-year old gave them his seal of approval. The bar with a good beer selection was an added bonus. We can’t wait to stop in on our next trip to try more items off their menu.

The best place to stop for lunch if you’re driving I-95! The low-country boil gives you peel-and-eat shrimp, smoked sausage, corn, and(for a small added charge) four snow-crab legs. Delicious! The blue crabs are messy but tasty. Beer is nice and cold and the service is friendly.

Great tasting fresh seafood & friendly service! I loved the crab chowder & the fried grouper was great too! Small, clean, family owned, friendly spot conveniently located off I-95!

I am picky and we had a great experience tonight at Bubba Jax Crab Shack. We drove over from Jekyll Island looking for a real seafood restaurant. It is a locally owned and operated fish house. It was clean with well trained and knowledgeable servers. They could not have been nicer. They were very helpful, attentive but not over involved. The crazy part was that at the bar there were a half dozen locals watching football and enjoying themselves. As they were leaving my husband asked if I had noticed that 4 of them were drinking soft drinks which seeks well for the mix in the restaurant. At the tables next to us there were folks coming off of the hwy, folks dressed in sports coats and wearing going out for dinner clothes, there were young families with children and a mix of real people. The food was excellent. The food was local, fresh and well prepared. We had a fried oyster dinner and a crab cake dinner with four sides between us. It was fried with a light batter but there was not a hint of grease. The crab cakes had chunks of crab and just the right amount of seasoning and breading. There were a range of menu choices that covered all food types and ways of preparation. The cole slaw might have been the best I had ever eaten, fresh and creamy. Wonderful onion rings, red potatoes and a link of local sausage rounded out our sides and they were great.
We will definitely go back. We found a gem

I had quite possibly the best service I’ve ever received, here. Our server was so kind and genuine. He was funny and not intrusive. He met and exceeded all of our needs and expectations. He also covered our beers because my husband is active duty, as a thank you. The shrimp and grits were DELIGHTFUL!!! The low country boil was very good as well. We met here as a half way point and glad we came in. We would return.

We stopped based on the reviews I read on here and wasn’t disappointed. I am not a fan of deep fried seafood, so I gambled on the crab cakes and was taken back to the ones grandma used to make on the Chesapeake. Lots of lump crab meat and very little else, created a great crab cake with delicious flavor. I wanted mine blackened, which would’ve been perfect, but we can’t have everything! The sausage link as a side was meh… It wasn’t special by any means. I am actually drawing a blank as to what my other side was. Overall, I enjoyed it and will go back the next time I drive through.

We enjoyed a pleasant evening at Bubba Jax while driving through to FL. Local owner took over a defunct fast food property and made it a local hang out. Local musician playing, local folks at the bar yakking it up and having fun, local families at tables enjoying the good food. We enjoyed our time here as well as the local shrimp dinners we ate. Go! It’s good!

We stopped here for a quick lunch when the Jekyll Market was too busy. We sat at the bar and shared the 12.99 popcorn shrimp basket. There were probably close to 20 medium sized fresh Georgia Brown shrimp. Hot and delicious. Great service from the friendly bartender, Jim. The house made chips are very very good. Not sure I would order the cheese grits again, my husband makes them better. We will be back!

I was admittedly skeptical when this place opened up in the former Whataburger location. Out by the Interstate, how could they hope to survive? Well, the answer is, good food and good service, with reasonable prices. We’ve been three times and each time were satisfied. The second time, we went for lunch, and the place was packed, mostly with people on their lunch hour from the nearby sea terminal. I was worried that the staff and kitchen would be overwhelmed, but they handled a rush crowd with aplomb. There was little or no delay in service, even during busy times. The shrimp were good and local, and offered steamed or fried. I haven’t tried the raw oysters yet, but they looked good as well. The beer selection was great, including the local Jekyll«Cooter Brown». The third time we went, I went out on a limb and order the lobster roll and onion rings. The onion rings were lightly battered and delicious and served with a nice dipping sauce. The lobster roll was a nice hybrid between the traditional Maine lobster roll(all lobster chunks and butter) and the Long Island style(more of a lobster salad). The roll had huge chunks of lobster with a small amount of dressing and salad, served, of course, on a top-split bun. Very well done, and yes, I’ve been to Red’s and know how lobster rolls are supposed to be. All in all, I have been pleased. The service is great, because the staff seems to care, and I think they care because they own the place. The food is good and reasonably priced, despite what some reviewers think(Texans, go figure). The beer is cold and the shrimp is hot. What more could you ask for?

If you are in the mood for some pretty good seafood stop on by this is where the locals go! Very happy with the crab cakes, bang bang shrimp, chicken wrap, sweet potato fries, and the hush puppies. Also a few local brews along with the regular common assortment.

(Actually more like 4.5) Great local place while stopping on the road to and from Florida and SC. In fact we stopped twice over a long weekend getaway. The first time we went through the clam strips as an app — GEE, there were clams in there! That’s a plus! I had the low country boil which I;ll give a decent 4 stars for while SWMBO had the awesome shrimp Newburg with an adder of snowcrab(extra $ 4). That it the spot(and made for a late night snack back in the hotel room — YUM! The nice thing is that they sell wine by the bottle at liquor store prices… soooooooo buy a glass of Cab for $ 5, or the whole bottle for $ 13…HMMMMMMTHAT’S a no-brainer, especially since they will cork and wrap it to make it legal for you to take back to the room. Nice place at this exit and way better than all of the other choices which are chain/franchise fast food crap. SECOND time —(two days later), same great wine deal, but we tried different food. This time SWMBO had some apps for dinner, fish dip a SOLID4 stars, moving to 4.5 territory, while I had a ½ lb of peel and eat shrimp. — Those were a solid 5 stars for two very good reasons — first they are local Georgia shrimp and secondly, they aren’t boiled so they come out like leather, more like nicely poached and tender and flavorful. We also had the crab cakes app another solid 4+(2 for the app, 3 for the dinner) and they were decent, more crab than most, but not quite the same as the best from MD. These were made from blue crabs, but not lump meat. Tasty nonetheless. Again, the bottle wine deal also helped us make the choice to come back again. If we are heading that way again in the future, we will be back.

Convenient, fast, near the highway, reasonably priced, and they have really good food! This was the perfect place for lunch on our drive today to Savannah from Miami! It’s a nice treat to so easily get delicious and perfectly prepared local shrimp. We took our waitress’s suggestion to try the siracha mayo sauce… It complimented the shrimp perfectly. I expected fast-food style counter service, but to our surprise they serve you at the table. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Worth re-visiting next time we drive through!!!

This was one of the places I decided to try while I was out of town on a business trip. The staff was quick on seating us and they were very friendly. For starters I had their Crab Chowder soup and it was THE best chowder soup I’ve ever tasted. My coworkers were like«damn, you were hungry» because I finished it so quickly. Their Fried Oysters were also very delicious and the LandShark beer just made my meal that much better. Will definitely be returning if I’m ever in this side of town again.

Passing through Georgia we stayed at the Coastal Georgia RV Resort and decided to go out for dinner for some good local food. We read the reviews for Bubba Jax and gave it a try. Chris was our waitress and was the perfect blend of being attentive without being over bearing. The crab cake and calamari appetizers were both very tasty; well seasoned and not greasy; grilled shrimp entrée was nicely seasoned; hush puppies yummy and again, not greasy; cheesy grits were just okay, could have used a bit more flavor; Hubby’s crab boil was average in his opinion, the king crab was good, potatoes good, corn very soft and water logged, sausage was not great, shrimp were large and plentiful… all in all he liked it right up to his elbows! Just off of I-95 and very easy to get to, would definitely go back, good food with a casual atmosphere!

My mom and I were looking for a local seafood joint that was close to our hotel. Many showed 3 ½ stars and could not believe Bubba Jax was close to a 5 star. Definately wanted to check it out. The location is right off the I-95 highway next to Mcdonalds. The outside looked to me like a former fast food restaurant, but I could be wrong. You walk in and you are seated by the servers. It was really busy. Our server was very sweet and did her best to be attentive. There were only two girls working the floor and 1 bartender. So you just had to be patient. We started off with waters and I got the Sweetwater 420 beer($ 3.99 canned). It took our server 10 minutes to take our order, but we were in no hurry. For dinner, my mom got the Oyster and Shrimp Platter(Fried and for $ 18.99) and for her two sides she got the saratoga homemade chips and a side salad. She also got the Crab soup for starters. I got the Popcorn Fried Shrimp(½ pound and $ 12.99) and as for my two sides I got the red potatoes and a side salad. Hush puppies(2) comes with all meals. Our food was definately worth the wait. My shrimp did not look popcorn size(they appeared to look medium) which was fresh and absolutely love the batter. The red potatoes seasoned just right, the butter sauce was really delish on the bottom of the potato. I even enjoyed my side salad(which comes with tomatoes, romaine lettuce, red onions, croutons, cucumbers-all fresh) with a side of ranch. ALL great!!! My mom was shocked at the cup of soup! It was pretty big and great for the price. She too enjoyed her meal. At the end, our server was very attentive and she even gave us each to go cup drinks with our doggy bag. Our bill came to $ 44.00 and this was well worth the drive. The food was great and the restaurant was very laid back. I highly recommend coming here!

A friend posted this restaurant a few weeks ago on Facebook. Thought we would give it a try at lunch. I really didn’t know what to expect since it is right off I95 @ exit 29, next to McDonald’s. On this beautiful Spring day, we ate on the outside patio that has tables and umbrellas. For an appetizer we had the phenomenal crab cakes. I had the grouper sandwich, my wife had the fried Wild Caught Georgia Shrimp, my dog-son had the chicken fingers. Everything is freshly made on the premises. If you are on I95 near Jekyll Island, exit 29, you owe it to yourself to stop and have a great lunch or dinner. Full bar of adult beverages available.

Who keeps giving this place 5 stars. They must be relatives. The food is good but it’s way way too expensive for what you get. $ 19 for five oysters and five medium shrimp with two sides. That’s outrageous. The shrimp weren’t anything spectacular either. We are a rocks throw from the water and these prices are on point with someplace miles away. There is nothing special about this place that warrants five stars. If you come and are budget minded try to come 11 – 2 they have lunch specials. Just don’t expect to be blowed away. We came in at 1:45 pm and the waitstaff of two was overwhelmed. One last thing. Calling this place a crab shack is a joke. They only have two selections for crab. I stopped because of all the five star ratings and this place is way out of that league.
