Excellent food, drinks, atmosphere and service! If you are staying in Brunswick or passing through definitely check this place out. A really nice spot for a date night with your significant other. I wish they were open more often.

Found Southern Table and Bar by accident located in the Historic District of Brunswick, GA. The menu sounded intriguing and delicious so we thought we would give it a try. We were very glad we stopped in to eat. I had the coq au vin and it was outstanding. There were 6 in our party and they had everything from deep fried short ribs, andouille sausage with shrimp and grits, and sapelo island clam and shrimp capellini, every dish was incredible. For desert we all split one bread pudding that had chocolate drizzled on top with home made whip cream and chocolate chips. The meals were outstanding and the service was impeccable.

Awesome atmosphere and staff. Kyle made us feel welcomed and comfortable, answered all questions and offered his opinions on all drinks and dishes. Had the bow tie and welcome home drinks, both a bit strong but good. Started w the pulled pork sweet potato biscuits, they were tipped w slaw and a sweet bbq sauce. Biscuits were slightly undercooked but overall good flavor. I had the pork chop w the black eyed peas and rice. Cooked we’ll good flavor and topped w cheese and mushrooms.(Could have had slightly less cheese). My girl had the shrimp and clam capalinni. She enjoyed it. We ended w the crème brûlée cheesecake… It was okay at best. A lot of caramel and was quite warm.

Great discovery in downtown Brunswick. Don’t miss the Bourbon pecan pie. Boiled peanut hummus is the first(and only) great use for boiled peanuts. Great craft cocktails.

3.5 stars. Downtown Brunswick has so much potential! Lovely little restaurant. Inviting atmosphere. There’s an rich amber glow inside and the bar is adorable. The service was personable and genuine, attentive but unhurried – just like the South. I had the crab corn chowder as an entrée. Loved that they used coconut milk and that they didn’t skimp on the crab. No krab used here! My girl ordered the pot pie and for a child who can be picky, she cleaned her plate, even eating the peas(normally those are shoved aside). The greens weren’t mushy or over salted. It had bacon cooked with it which definitely added to the flavor. The downside. Mashed potatoes are pretty easy to make from scratch, especially if you’re skilled in the culinary arts. When mashed potatoes taste like they’re reconstituted from a box, it’s disappointing and throws a cloud of doubt over the entire meal. While dinner didn’t blow me away, I wasn’t disgusted with it either. I’m pleased with the chowder I had. The rest of my party were good with their choices, even if confused by the potatoes. That said, overall, the service and ambiance made for a nice end to an emotionally grueling Saturday. A darling restaurant in which to linger and converse over a decent meal.

Alas, something’s never stay the same… Uninspired dishes, the chicken and dumplings amounted to about a cup serving size with a thin chicken sauce reminiscent of Campbell’s chic soup. My peel eat shrimp were overcooked and blah. Service and high-priced($ 8)deserts saved this disastrous meal. The worst part is that it dented a Hundred dollar bill! I’m sorry Stacy, some attention is needed in the kitchen!

Went here for birthdays because a coworker went for his anniversary and said it was fantastic. My husband father and I were all disappointed. The cocktails were very good but the bison meatloaf was very dry, the ceviche didn’t have much taste. The cold chips and peanut hummus were great and not very good. The desserts were wonderful. They don’t filter their water so it tastes and smells yucky. I would go again in the hopes that it would be better, but if it wasn’t a second time I don’t think I would give it a third chance.

This place was amazing I had the cerviche to start and then chicken and dumplings with a blacktie to drink. My husband had the Sapelo clam and shrimp pasta all if the food was delicious and I love the atmosphere. Will definitely return again.

We were really excited about this place but unfortunately we had a disappointing experience. For appetizers, we had the shrimp ceviche, wings and shrimp cocktail. All the appetizers were ok and nothing to write home about. For entrées my husband had the airline chicken which was dry and bland. And I had the shrimp cappelletti, which was honestly very plain and not exciting at all. Per my girlfriend, her salmon was good however a little overcooked, the spinach was horrible and the hopping johns rice was okay. One of our friends had the shrimp and grits, which he loved. The crème brûlée cheesecake was not bad but personally my cheesecake is better. Overall everything was okay but we will probably not come back… sorry.

You know you’re in for a treat as soon as the lovely Miss Tracy greets you at the door. The staff is warm and friendly — southern hospitality at it’s finest. You immediately feel like family. The menu is small but everything on it is fantastic,(beginning with the boiled peanut hummus!). The shrimp and grits are some of the best I’ve had and the pulled pork on sweet potato biscuits paired with a Manhattan is down right heavenly. Such a wonderful addition to downtown!

I really wanted to give more stars, but it was very odd experience from the moment we sat down. I was meeting some friends for a birthday celebration and LOVED the setup and vibe inside the restaurant. I joined the group and was approached by the waiter. Most finer dining establishments will welcome you to a restaurant, or at least smile. Our table was simply greeted with a question of what we’d like to drink, no suggestions, no smile, just kinda abrupt. Some in our party ordered a bottle of wine — when it arrived, the waiter actually asked if they wanted to taste it. Umm, isn’t it customary to show the wine to the person ordering it, open the wine, and have them taste it. In a dining establishment that we’d heard so many good things about it came as a HUGE surprise when they were just asked if they wanted to actually taste it, as if that was a hassle. Then as the waiter poured the wine, they filled each of the 4 glasses up so high, and on the last glass just completely dumped the rest of the bottle into it — so much for enjoying your wine, here’s your allotted amount. It was the weirdest experience I’ve ever had or seen when it comes to ordering a bottle of wine. 2 or 3 people ordered salads that never came. Food was ok — we were all more impressed with the ceviche than anything else. That might have been the best we had, anywhere. The steak was delicious and I overheard that those that ordered the salmon was pretty good too, just overcooked slightly. After dinner was over, we did get a piece of cheesecake for the birthday girl, at that time one in our party asked if they could charge us a corking fee for some celebratory champagne we had brought. This is not an uncommon request. Every restaurant I’ve ever worked in(5 fine dining) we’ve had corking fees, no big deal. They told us they would not allow it b/c they sold champagne. We told them we’d pay whatever they wanted if they’d just bring us some glasses… answer, no. So strange to turn down money… but that’s ok. We went to Tipsy’s and they opened it for us — and made some money doing it. Overall, the evening was great because of the company. But was very disappointed in the service for most of the night. Our waiter did get a little better as the evening went along, but for awhile we just weren’t sure if we were a hassle or not. There are a lot of places around town that you may fair better at.

Had a great dinner there last night ! Passing through Brunswick and stumbled upon this Jewel. It may only be open two nights a week, but it is worth the wait. Dinner partner had house salad and pasta with clams. Both were very well done. My maple glazed wings… and main course of shrimp and grits were memorable as well. All of the dishes has an interesting and creative local twist. You don’t often find this level of dining experience is such a small town. I do hope that I pass that way again soon. Ps… Be sure and try the drink of the day… last night it was a marvelous blend of savingion blanc, St Germain and a splash of soda with a twist of lime! Perfect.

I was in downtown Historic Brunswick checking out the 1st Friday Event. Passed by twice as I made my way around the area. Checked out the menu posted in the window on the 3rd go by and decided to give it a try. WELLWORTHIT! Located in a historic old building with a speak easy vibe with about 20 two person and 4 top tables. All the servers wore Tux shirts and bow ties with fedora or pork pie style hats. Full liquor bar with lots of options and some specialty drinks like Moonshine Mule made with a small batch bourbon and served in a copper style cup. This evening I sat at the bar, and what caught my eye at the window was what I ordered for dinner which was Chicken and Dumplings. As read on the menu it’s A Southern favorite with a Southern Twist, chicken and gnocchi dumplings served with two sweet potato biscuits. Gnocchi was cooked perfect! If you know Gnocchi it’s supposed to pretty much melt in your mouth and this did not disappoint. Its even grilled with grill marks. Chicken was plentiful as well. I will say a smaller portion than what I was expecting but that was not an issue. The sweet potato biscuits were very good as well and served in it’s own dish. As I am familiar with the area I know that Shrimp and Grits are a big deal here which was also on the menu. (Minutes away is Jekyll Island home of the Wild Georgia Shrimp and Grits Festival held every Sept.) My server Mathew let me know that they were a spicier version than served in other restaurant in the area and also gave me some comparable places since I did know my Shrimp and Grits. I will very definitely be back again to give that dish a try as it sounds very good. Followed up with desserts and decided on another Southern Favorite Pecan Pie! Holy mother Mary… Mattie’s Famous Bourbon Pecan Pie which is served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Folks stop right there. Try just the pie with out the ice cream and it’s BOOOYA flavor or pecan pie and bourbon sweetness. Okay add in the ice cream before it melts but I will say it’s damn near as good as it gets with just the pie itself. Like i said I will be back my next time thru the area and look forward to trying some other dishes and some of the appetizers as the menu looks really good.

Michael Russell, CMC has defined gourmet cooking as good ingredients prepared well. By his definition, Southern Table and Bar is a gourmet restaurant. If I had to describe the cooking style at Southern Table and Bar, I would describe as Southern Cooking with an International Flare. There were four in our party. The staff was very friendly and efficient. We started with the special appetizer of Oysters Rockefeller and one from the menu, Boiled Georgia White Shrimp. The shrimp were tender, juicy, and cooked properly. The Oyster Rockefeller reminded us of those we have enjoyed in New Orleans. They served them on a bed of rock salt. Our dinner started on a high note. We had four different main courses. The grilled pork chop was thick, juicy, and prepared, as requested, medium. The sauce added a delightful richness to the chop. Another at our table has the Sapelo Island clam and shrimp capellini. The chef displayed his knowledge because the pasta was the correct pasta for the very flavorful thin sauce of this dish. They cooked the pasta perfectly. This dish was as fine as one would get on the coast of Italy. A member of our party also enjoyed the chicken and dumplings. Again, they were not your mother’s chicken and dumplings. This dish had a slight Italian flair because the dumplings were potato gnocchi and they were light and tasty. There were large pieces of chicken in perfectly seasoned thicken broth. There was not one item that we would not order again. Southern Table and Bar is a restaurant that we would recommend. And, it is one to which we would return the next time we are in Brunswick.

What a treat! Our friends introduced us «Northerners» to this gem in historic Brunswick. We had a larger group and had the opportunity to sample several menu items. Cocktails: The«Bow Tie» is a refreshing summer drink that will appeal to many of you. The«Bulleit Manhattan» was fantastic and had a Bullit soaked cherry in the bottom of the glass for that burst of Bulleit Bourbon at the end. The«Southern Table Sweet Tea» is dangerous. The sweet tea vodka and lemonade mix may fool you into thinking you do not have liquor in there. Food: We tried the ceviche, crab cakes, and pulled pork biscuits for appetizers. I LOVED the pulled pork biscuits with savory sweet potato biscuits and southern style pulled pork. My friend also loved the crab cakes in particular and that is saying a lot when we can get some great crab cakes in Maryland. I had the Chicken and Dumplings for my entrée. This dish was in a light broth with gnocchi for for the dumplings. Unique and delicious. Other people at our table had the Blackened Salmon, the Shrimp n’ Grits, and Lamb Chops. Everyone was happy with their meal. If you are in this area, make plans to stop here. The owners and their staff have put together a team that feels more like family than staff.
