Bryan, we have a new liquor store. Certainly essential I am sure. I’ve always said that you can tell a lot about the neighborhood you are in by paying attention to what people are eating, and drinking in particular. This store didn’t impress me in any way. The wine selection is basically grocery store labels of mass produced, bum wines included and overpriced. Nothing top shelf at all, and everything I did recognize is priced about $ 2-$ 3 more than in the Walmart next door. And there’s a reason for that. They are just for show. I asked the clerk if this store was part of Walmart as it’s in the same new shopping center and she said«No, but Walmart leases to us under contract because they are not allowed to sell liquor in the State of Texas»… Ah hah! Now, that’s no surprise in a state stuffed to the gills with Republicans and Christians(all too often the same) where you can’t buy hard alcohol on Sunday as clear evidence of connection of the church and state. So this is Walmarts unofficial foray into liquor. Even though they don’t own and operate it, technically. They just lease to someone else that they likely have firm thumb screws on. I found the service to be friendly and my purchase was fair priced but I had to look very hard. As I do not drink hard alcohol, and wine is my most serious adult beverage(which I know well), I can say with certainty that the wines here are pretty much for display as the prices are not serious, so that Walmart has a way of selling hard alcohol in Texas, in a round about way.
